3.75 HEARTS--Perfect Match is the first in the Playmates series. This series is about a BDSM partner matching service.Written in present tense, we are introduced to Hunter a 37 year old white collar straight man who is bi-curious and wanting to explore the submissive side in him that he's never explored. He works a boring job, he struck out in the love department five years ago and just wants someone to help him explore that side of himself. Through Playmates, he's matched with Milo, a Dom who likes mostly D/s and doesn't like to inflict pain. My kind of guy.
"I kind of went from bi-curious to bisexual in the space of time it took you to agree to fuck me."

Oh, Milo was such a sweet Dom. I loved that he didn't know everything and was willing to adjust himself to the needs of Hunter. I love caretaker Doms. And Milo was not above showing his emotions in this story. I really liked that aspect to him. I like that he made Hunter feel comfortable. Hunter was insecure about his body and Milo made him feel body positive through cute ways. He was adaptable, knew how gauge a scene. And his other job as a sex blogger was pretty cool.

"He has a perverse urge to Make Hunter come all over the dark leather and leave friction burns on his thighs that's be tender for days."

I especially liked the two spoke through their gadgets as well. It raised the quirky level some. And some bits the snark was also cute.

Why wasn't this a 5 heart review?

I had two quibbles. My positives for this story outnumber my quibbles but they are major things that could've knocked this out of the park for me.

- I love you/falling in love bits: WAY too soon. I'm reading these moments before the 50% mark and it's a short story to begin with. Hunter goes from being a straight man who is finally getting over the love of his life (Lisa) five years later and after a few weeks/months he's in a relationship with a man and the ILY comes so soon? I can't but it. If there was more length for explore Hunter's and Milo's feelings, I wouldn't even be mentioning this.

- The first time anal sex scene: Where was it it? It was ignored. We go from fingering (I love) to their second time having anal. When I read about a man's first time discovering his asshole, I'd like all of it, please - I want to read about the first time he thinks about his partner's penis going in. Is he going to cringe? Pretend to take it like a champ? Cringe? Cry out? That was a missed opportunity for me.

But the story was still pretty good. I really enjoyed the concepts brought to the table: a smaller, sensitive and sweet Dom who does not know it all, a bi-curious to bisexual older sub with a normal body (not fit or looking like a cardboard cutout), D/s elements that were great for readers who like sugarkink and are hesitant to try the BDSM genre.

There wasn't a lot of kink: minor bondage, more praise kink than anything, though the brief mention of puppy play got my motor going. ;) Wish that was explored. I'd have like Hunter really prove that he was a "good boy".

Good story, solid enough characters just needed more length.

But I loved the couple hence my rating. :)

This was a decent book about a Dom and a man new to BDSM and sex with another man. The premise was simple and worked, but the characters weren't fleshed out very well and a few of the situations were kinda ridiculous.

I can recommend this to folks who need to read any and all BDSM or folks looking for a simple story to take you out of your head for a half hour.

Curiosity about BDSM is what drives Hunter to look for a partner-matching service – one that specializes in finding just the right combination of Dom and sub. There are a lot of aspects to consider, and both men in this book are secretly looking for more than “just” a playmate, even though they don’t realize it at first, and don’t want to admit it once they get going. They kept me in suspense, and the story definitely makes for an interesting read, but if you’re looking for hardcore chains and whips, this is not the book for you. It is a very gentle “easing into” a D/s situation where the Dom is as sentimental as the sub, they are both very careful of each other, and the whole point is an emotional as well as a physical exploration of what it means to trust someone else to take care of you.

Hunter is not exactly the most forceful man who has ever walked the Earth, he even goes so far as to call himself a coward. I don’t agree with him – it takes a lot of courage to go out there and ask for someone to dominate you! But he is hesitant to ask for what he wants, especially in the bedroom, and his former relationships may have something to do with that. Once he meets Milo and gets over his fear of admitting he is bisexual, Hunter truly begins to learn what it is like to find fulfillment with a partner.

Milo is an experienced Dom with an issue – he is not into S&M, and doesn’t even like to be too forceful. He does like to play, he loves to take care of a sub, and he is overjoyed when he gets to know Hunter. In fact, he is far more attracted to Hunter than he expected in a casual relationship, and it throws him for a loop. And while he may be self-confident in the bedroom he is a little hesitant in real life and almost lets Hunter slip between his fingers.

If you like the softer side of BDSM and enjoy kinky play with one partner "in charge" of the other’s well-being, if two men who need each other more than they are willing to admit sound interesting, and if you’re looking for a sweet, romantic read with some hot D/s scenes that don’t always involve ropes or handcuffs, then you will probably enjoy this novella.

I rounded up because Milo was kind, sweet and very patient with Hunter. I liked that a lot. He's like-able character. This is almost feel like harlequin. So if you like that, you might like this one. And one more thing.

The epitome of nice, for the most part. Gentle D/s, which can never be represented too often. The third-act breakup, however, is deeply unnecessary. If there needs to be conflict in a story, I'd have preferred it to be something internal or at least more organic. The third person present tense narration leaves little to the imagination, but at least it doesn't get in the way.

3.5 heart review by Tara

This is the first book in the Playmates series, Perfect Match, and we are introduced to Hunter and Milo. Hunter is a thirty-seven year old office worker who after many years of thinking about it signed himself into a BDSM match making services. He wants to explore what it’s like to be a submissive and since his last relationship ended five years ago, he figures now would be a good time. After being almost too honest in his interview session, he is surprised to see that his Dom match is a man simply named Milo. But after being bi-curious for years, he sees this opportunity to explore the side of himself that he’s locked away for years. Milo,we eventually learn is a 35-year-old blog writer and has been in the scene for many years. He is not into inflicting pain and welcomes the opportunity to introduce Hunter into the world of BDSM. Their first scene together it is evident how achingly sweet Milo is to Hunter, seeing that Hunter has a poor self-image, and is stressed out to the max. Milo sets out to take care of Hunter, introducing him to a mild form of puppy play and a gentle foray of lovemaking. But of course feelings start to get in the way, and Hunter begins to doubt if this is really what he wants. Will they belong together or will Hunter take the easy way out?

This was an incredibly sweet story with BDSM elements but I wouldn’t call it straight BDSM. I’d definitely recommend it to people who haven’t read about BDSM before as both of the MC’s kind of explore the gentler side of it. Milo was a very kind Dom. He was open to adjusting his style to fit what Hunter needed. I loved that everything was set up before hand, and was very thorough with each of them showing what they liked and didn’t like to do. Right away Milo became attuned to the fact that Hunter didn’t think too highly of his body and had some cute ways of making him feel better. He would take pictures of him for his blog and would only accept positive comments about him. Hunter was very likable as well. He was very real in that he showed that you are never too old to try something new and even with how self-conscious he was, he still went ahead with what he wanted. All their play was very sweet and I loved how each session ended in aftercare. But I do wish it was longer and maybe a bit more fleshed out. I missed the scene when they had sex for the first time. I actually looked back to see if I had missed out. But it went from finger play to all of a sudden they are having anal sex for the second time. Really you have a guy that had never been with a man before, and to just skip that crucial first time, to having him being bent over the back of his couch with no problem I felt a bit slighted. I also had a bit of problem with them falling in love so quickly mainly since this is Hunter’s first foray with men I think it needed to wait a bit further along in the story. But that goes along with wanting the story to be a bit more fleshed out. In the end it was a good first book and I definitely will read the next addition to the series since I adore books with a BDSM theme.

I enjoyed this book. It had a few things that separates it from other MM romance BDSM books of this length. For one thing, the sub is older/larger than the dom which is a nice change. Neither partner was feminine, which is another refreshing change from some of the heteronormative short MM romance stories out there in which one character is basically a woman with a penis. The couple doesn't like the S&M aspect of BDSM and is pretty light on the B&D too. The kink factor is lower in this book than it is in many other short MM romance stories.

I liked the premise of the story - a kinky "dating" agency. I will definitely check out others in the series. I am kind of hoping the couple befriends the shy waiter at the restaurant they frequented. He seems super subby! :D

I enjoyed this book. It is very, very light BDSM and more cute than anything else. It is just a little bit too short for me.
