The barnyard animals left home to see what it was like on the moon proving to themselves the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.

My Review:
1. This book did not receive any awards.
2. This is suitable for PreK-2nd grade.
3. This book is about all these farm animals that are getting a little tired of their lives on planet Earth. They decide to build a rocket ship and they made a journey to the moon. They did make it and had a dance party, but eventually, they realized that theres no place like home. They made a trip back home and were happy with where they were.
4. I believed that this book wasn't the greatest, however, it wasn't the worst either. I enjoyed the silliness of the usage of animals in the book and I also enjoyed how caring the animals were for Katie. They noticed she was bored on the barn so they did something for her to make her feel better. The illustrations in the book were not my favorite, but overall, it is a very average book.
5. Since this book comes with an audio CD, an in class use could include a small dance party while listening to the reading of the book. Every time they hear a certain repetitive line, they could get up and dance. Another in class use is that students can draw pictures of themselves in their own rocket ships that they would build and draw what they think the moon would look like if they were to fly there. This could then transition into a whole science lesson about outer space.

I listened to Matthew Gollub's book Gobble, Quack, Moon written for kindergarden and first graders. The story tells of Katie the cow who has aspirations to leave the farm and dance a ballet on the moon, in a tutu. With the help of her farm family they build a rocket that takes them to the moon, where they dance and have fun until they realize how much more they have on Earth. The audio version was sung by the author himself, and while it was cute at the beginning, the sing-songy nature became a little hard to take for very long. This would be a good book to use for storytime in the classroom, although the audio version slows down the rythm of the story, therefore I would suggest the use of only the book and not the accompanying audio.

This is a very cute book with lots of the a great beat. I think it would be best read to a very small group of kids or one-on-one. Read to a big group there is a place that seems to stumble into a crater just like Katie. The CD, well I didn't like it much; it was much too slow for my taste. All in all a good book.

36 months - a pretty crazy rhyming story that takes farm animals on a wild ride. Nicely illustrated.
