A very good book, that seemed to fet better the further I went. In the last few chapters, I didn't want to put it down.
It might sound easy or obvious, but like all things when you work on yourself, trying to change or forgive your own self is the hard part. Also, the other hard part is now the tools and techniques are here it is time for me to do the work. I really like the link between they physical exercises and mindsets, and positive mindsets will, in turn, further physical activities. If I could add anything to this book, I would say in the yoga sections that some diagrams would have been helpful, but this is not a yoga book.
I really like the gym analogy. If you are playing a sport, you can learn everything about the rules and tactics, but until you pit the work into the gym or in practice, you will not see any results.
Great book with solid advice to be more positive, terrible choice for narrator. It just didn’t fit the vibe of the book. I am working through the hard copy of the book and will see how I feel at the end of doing the work.
Very repetitive and boring. Found myself skimming 80% of the book. I love to read anything that may give any new insight or perspectives, but this had very little. 2 stars ⭐️
"Mastering the Art of Positive Thinking" by Olivia Telford is a concise self-help guide that explores the journey to cultivating a positive mindset. Telford very briefly delves into the why and how behind mastering this art, emphasizing the pursuit of self-improvement, well-being, and gratitude for a fulfilling life.
The book unfolds like a recipe book, presenting concepts and action items in a straightforward manner. Each of the 13 chapters focuses on key elements such as mindfulness, breathing techniques, overcoming fear, and practicing gratitude. Telford employs a bullet-point style with brief explanations and justifications, making the content easily digestible.
For example, one of the chapters towards the end of the book, "Protect Your Positive Energy and Prioritize Your Peace," addresses toxic personality styles which each of us have in our lives, creating awareness, and offering practical advice on setting boundaries. Telford acknowledges the challenges but provides valuable insights on navigating this aspect of personal growth.
The strength of the book lies in its brevity, akin to a recipe book outlining the necessary ingredients for developing a positive mindset. Telford not only identifies the components but also guides readers on how to combine them effectively. While the journey toward a positive mindset requires hard work and time, the author encourages readers to take it one step at a time. In her own words, "Changing the way you think isn't a sprint, it's a marathon, and slow and steady will always win the race." It is actionable – and I liked it with 4 stars instead of 5, simply because of my personal preference to read more “stories” around concepts.
In conclusion, "Mastering the Art of Positive Thinking" offers practical tools and valuable insights, making it a worthwhile read for those on the path to personal development. Telford's approachable style and actionable advice make this book accessible to anyone seeking a positive transformation in their life.

The first 15% is one long list of why positive thinking can help you with detailed explanations of what each benefit means. It takes work to continue through this. Also, several advantages are repeated a few pages later. This whole section gives the impression that the author is trying to bulk up the word count. There are better ways to start a book than this one.
After the long list, the techniques for thinking positively could be more helpful. One early one is to identify the situation that caused your negative feelings, ask yourself why it did this, then ask yourself if this reaction defines you and then change how you react to these situations in the future. Hardly groundbreaking or readily employable on a day-to-day basis. The practical example is pretty generic and basic. No personal experiences or unique perspectives through using these techniques. This echoes throughout the rest of the book.
Throughout the rest of the book, the examples within the various chapters are relatively generic and not helpful. In practising mindfulness driving, for example, the book reminds you to set up your car (mirrors, seat and steering wheel), focus on the road, a reminder on the definition of defensive driving, pay attention to the road and your environment, take breaks, avoid multitasking and be patient. There is nothing that you have not been doing since you first learned to drive and no deep insights into thinking positively.
While most individuals overlook the obvious things to improve their lives, this book takes that methodology to the next level. Ultimately, this book states the headlines and no more.
I would highly recommend this book. I had previously read Olivias Telfords other book on CBT which i loved so i already had a feel on the authors style of writing. It's an easy read, with well laid out chapters that have broken down a huge topic into really manageable sections. I personally found you didn't have to go in chronological order re the chapters and could pick up which chapter you wanted to focus on for that moment of time.
Each chapter easily explains its topic, why you feel that way, how you can take steps to avoid or overcome that particular negative emotion or feeling. The chapters also includes plenty of examples of situations you may find yourself in so you can personally assess your own self and how to use the books techniques to your advantage.
This book had helped me understand the reason why i think the way i do, unlocking my brain essentially, showing me how to become aware of unhelpful thoughts and catch them before they turn into negative feelings. The more i practice my awareness, the higher my self worth and belief goes along with increasing positive thoughts, which helps me lead a happier life. Ive begun to notice me and more happy moments that would have outgrow passed me by while i worried my way through the day focusing on all the things i didn't get done, and still needed to get done. I wasn't living i was just surviving. This book has most definitely helped me achieve a happier and mentally healthier life. I would also recommend reading this book AND Olivias Cognitive Behaviour Therapy book as i feel both had a huge influence in the positive change Ive made to my life.

As someone who values optimism and personal growth, I found this book to be a beacon of inspiration and practical wisdom.
What sets this book apart is its emphasis on mindfulness and gratitude as foundational practices for cultivating positivity. I appreciated Telford's holistic approach to positivity, addressing not only the power of positive thinking but also the importance of self-care, resilience, and emotional intelligence. By tackling these interconnected aspects of well-being, "Mastering the Art of Positive Thinking" offers a comprehensive roadmap for personal transformation.
Overall, I highly recommend "Mastering the Art of Positive Thinking" to anyone seeking to embrace optimism, overcome negativity, and discover the joy in every moment. It's a book that not only inspires but also equips readers with the tools and mindset needed to lead a more fulfilling and joyful life.

As someone who has read several self-help books, I found "Mastering the Art of Positive Thinking: Discovering the Joy in Every Moment" by Olivia Telford quite dull. This is because it covers many common sense basics for anyone who has read self-help books. Mind you, I am not saying she does not cover excellent points—she does! I highlighted a lot, but it was very slow to read.
Olivia Telford's book seems to be geared toward beginners, making it a great starting point for those new to the self-help genre. This book is easy to read and not overly complex for someone just beginning their journey.
However, for more experienced readers, it may feel redundant and simplistic. I would recommend it to someone just starting to read self-help books, but as an experienced reader, I found it not engaging.
This book is fantastic! Your thoughts really do create your reality and this book explains it all and is spot on! I’ve thought about meditation a lot but this book goes further than any other to describe the benefits. It really is a game changer. The key to happiness is gratitude, appreciate everything that you have. Everything else is a bonus. You will always feel happy after reading this book and taking it on board. I highly recommend it.

The writer leads the reader through the main reasons negative energies impact wellbeing, she navigates the theory and background in a non-patronising way and explores the ideas to improve mental wellbeing such as gratitude, mindfullness, self-limiting beliefs and visualising. She makes some really good suggestions as to ways in which to harness these and improve wellbeing. These are definitely things that I plan on implementing in my every day life and will no doubt refer back to this thorough and thoughtful work.

I received this book early to read and found it interesting enough to purchase today. The information was provided in a concise manner and could have used a bit more elaboration just to make it more enjoyable.
That being said, I think that the author exhibited knowledge of the benefits of positive thinking and provided sound advice to develop a habit of thinking positively.
I hope I am fortunate enough to be allowed the opportunity to pre-read Olivia's future works.

It was fabulous when Norman Vincent Peale wrote about The Power of Positive Thinking and it is just as fabulous and relevant today with Olivia Telford’s Mastering the Art of Positive Thinking! The Mind is a powerful tool and we are the only ones in control of our mindful chatter. I love this book because it is an excellent reminder to focus on the the things we want instead of on the things we don’t want. Closing down the negative voice of doom! This book is powerfully uplifting and I thank Olivia Telford for the opportunity to read and review this book!
I really enjoyed this book as it gave steps on how to change our thought process. It had meaningful messages from the author as she speaks from the heart and her own experiences. The book gives hope and that alone is amazing.

I've been working really diligently to adjust my mindset since I always tended to be pessimistic. I know that positive thinking is much better for stress management and overall mental health and Telford really helped me develop strategies to change my thought patterns to see the good in moments, and not always the bad. I honestly feel lighter and happier with her guidance. Would highly recommend!
Really enjoyed this book talking about the power positive thinking. Talks about self-talk, the benefits of positive thinking and what will happen if we continue to talk about ourselves. It's definitely a great guide for anybody who was looking for more information and tools to help.

As someone with a positive mindset in general this echoed my personal traits and provided me with more self awareness as well as a reference guide for improving other areas of my life to enhance positivity and well-being
Extremely detailed and very prescriptive. Most books don't contain actionable steps and this one does. From meditations, therapeutic activities to yoga this book will walk you through the basics.
A very thorough exploration of different aspects of Positive Thinking from Fear, Courage and self-belief to Giving back and Making a Difference in this world. Makes a good overview of this field. Lots of techniques to try.
This book covers many topics to start the reader with exploration of positive thinking. The explanations are simple, but detailed enough to describe practices in such a way that one can learn how to engage with them. It is also structured in a way that allows one to take their time and work through each piece until it is understood. This book is a great jumping off point for anyone looking to incorporate practices in positive thinking into their life.
