I read it and it was amazing, the writing style, the illustrations and the story. If I had read this story during my childhood, I would have definitely went to explore all the places mentioned.
I loved how the relationship dynamics established between each character.
The touch of Bangalore to the story makes it worth reading. I loved all the places that have been mentioned in the story, it really creates a whole layer of a fantasy world in the imagination.

I literally looked up on Maps if there was a Bommai Brassworks on CMH Road. I also went to see the graveyard behind Ulsoor Bus stop.😁

A spooky little mystery with BIG adventure energy ✨

Karthik and Aarav accidentally discover a pot of gold… and suddenly they’re chasing clues instead of just answers.

I loved the cute illustrations, fast-paced storytelling, and the friendship at the heart of this book.

It’s suspenseful without being scary, which makes it perfect for young readers getting into mysteries.

Vidya V's debut book, The Mystery of The Graveyard Gold, pivots around Karthik, Aarav, and Asha's wit and braveness to unravel the secrets adults can't.

It is a fast-paced book filled with lightness and adventures. The main characters were kids, and B. Fuddle gracefully balanced their portrayal with nonchalance and smartness.

I am looking forward to reading the second book in the AKA Detective series, as the premise looks promising, and I hope that this time the book will be lengthy. I recommend it.

The story kicks off with Karthik and Aarav finding a pot of gold in a graveyard, which already feels like the start of trouble more than luck. From there, things shift into a quiet investigation as questions start piling up. When Asha joins them, the three form their own detective club and begin tracing where the gold came from. The plot moves in a simple, steady way, but there is always that underlying curiosity pushing it forward, especially as they realise this is not as random as it first seemed. Moments like “Are you crazy? You want to melt down an ancient treasure?” capture that mix of excitement and panic that runs through their discovery.

What stayed with me was how the group felt like actual kids figuring things out as they go. There are small disagreements, moments of doubt, and that slight hesitation before taking risks, which made their dynamic believable. Asha’s presence adds a nice balance to the group, and she often brings a sense of direction without it being too obvious. The Bengaluru setting also adds familiarity, making the mystery feel closer to home rather than distant. The book leans into themes of friendship, curiosity and teamwork, along with that classic trope of children noticing and solving things adults tend to miss.

The sincere attitude of these children while discussing these things was indispensable, like
“Look, I am excited about gold coins too. But if it really is ancient treasure, it doesn't belong to just us” which also add a layer of thoughtfulness to the story without making it feel heavy.

The ending felt a bit rushed compared to how nicely the story builds up. A little more space to explore the backstory or consequences would have made the resolution more satisfying. Even so, it works well as a quick, engaging read. This would suit younger readers or anyone looking for a light mystery with a strong friendship core. It also carries a familiar charm if you grew up reading series like The Famous Five or The Secret Seven, but with a setting and context that feels much closer to home.

”He had just become the delighted owner of a shiny new, red-and-chrome, 10-speed bike, which he had got for his birthday, and was only too eager to test the limits of that two-lane road to adolescence - speed and freedom.”

- Vidya V, The Mystery of the Graveyard Gold

Aarav was envious of Karthik who seemed to get everything he wanted in the world. Karthik challenged Aarav to spend a night in a graveyard. Charged by the challenge and detective novels he consumed religiously, he decides to appoint his sister, Asha as a backup. Will the wall between Aarav and Karthik break? And Does Aarav complete Karthik's dare? Read the book to find out.

”Suddenly, the risk didn't seem worth the thrill of one upping Karthik.”

Vidya scatters bits and pieces of trivia through Aarav's sister Asha who acts as a mouthpiece delivering them. The illustrations by Charbak Dipta mimic the character's facial expressions and voices their thoughts effectively. Within a layer of suspense and mystery, the story portrays several themes.

”[...]If it really is ancient treasure, it doesn't belong to just us, it belongs to the country. They sell off our temple idols to musems abroad. These coins should be in a museum. People should know where they came from and who made them.”

The main themes explored in the book are friendship, adventure and sibling revelry that celebrate the joy of growing up together, highlighting the warmth, mischief, and deep bonds that define childhood relationships. The historical element ignites a feeling of curiosity among the pre-teens and adults alike.

Vidya's writing style is warm and inviting keeping the suspense in wraps till the end of the story. I really enjoyed solving the mystery alongside Aarav and Karthik.

With his sister Asha as his backup, the story blends suspense, sibling bonds, and adventure beautifully. I loved how Asha weaves in little bits of trivia, and the illustrations perfectly capture the characters’ emotions. Warm, engaging, and full of curiosity, this was such a fun mystery to solve alongside Aarav and Karthik.

THE MYSTERY OF THE GRAVEYARD GOLD by Vidya V
💌 Kids fiction

The Mystery of the Graveyard Gold is a fast-paced children’s mystery that blends adventure, curiosity, and just the right amount of suspense. The story revolves around Karthik, Aarav and his little sister Asha. Karthik challenges Aarav to visit a graveyard at night, and while doing so, they stumble across a pot of gold coins. This sends the kids on a journey to reverse find the mystery of the pot of gold. What they find isn't just some buried and long forgotten history but something more mysterious!

The story was a fun and short read. It is perfect for kids. Written in a simple and engaging style, the book draws young readers into a world where ordinary surroundings hide extraordinary secrets. It had all the elements for a thrilling ride. The story kept in track with themes of mystery, friendship and adventure. It has potential to be a book series like Nancy Drew, where the AKA club solves such day to day mysteries together.

The characters feel real, sometimes curious and brave, sometimes unsure. Their teamwork and determination add warmth to the story, while also subtly highlighting values like friendship, courage, and problem-solving. The setting plays an important role as well. The graveyard, often seen as a place of fear, is transformed into a space of intrigue and discovery. This shift adds to the excitement without becoming too frightening.

With beautiful illustrations and a engaging narrative, the story was a breeze to read. It kept my niece engaged until I had narrated the whole story in one go. She kept asking what next? The book maintains a sense of wonder and adventure. The pacing is quick, and the clues are easy enough to follow, encouraging readers to think along with the characters. It is a perfect pick for young readers who are just beginning to explore the world of detective stories and are looking for a fun, engaging, and slightly spooky adventure.

I finally read The Mystery Of Graveyard Gold by Vidya Varadarajan. It was a really fun mystery book. I was excited to read it because the title sounded cool and a bit spooky. The story kept me interested from start to finish.

What I liked most was how the kids felt real. Aarav, Karthik and Asha didn't seem smart or fake. They acted like kids trying to solve a mystery. Their conversations and arguments felt believable. Asha was my favorite because she brought a lot of energy to the story.

The mystery was simple but engaging. When the boys found coins in the graveyard I wanted to know where they came from and why they were hidden there. I liked how they slowly gathered clues and followed details. The part about investigating the brass pot was especially fun.

The Bengaluru setting made the book feel personal. Usually mystery books for kids are set away but this one felt close, to home. The roads, autos, shops and local places made it relatable. The illustrations matched the mood nicely. Made reading more enjoyable.

I also liked that the book quietly talks about friendship, teamwork and honesty. It reminded me of mystery books I enjoyed in school but this one felt modern.

The ending felt a bit quick. Overall I had a good time reading it. The book stayed in my mind after I finished it. I would definitely read more adventures from the AKA Detective Club. I enjoyed The Mystery Of Graveyard Gold. I think others will too.

~: Quotes from book

1. “You know, we should have a name for our club. Like "The Talented Two" or "The Boy Sleuths". What say?”

2. “To solve a mystery, we have to document everything. Then we may be able to see a pattern or find what's missing.”

3. “Maybe it was found decades ago, and someone decided to hide it again.”

Children have the curious energy that we as adults always lack or just neglect. Their curiosity needs to be used and appreciated so that it can be provided in the right direction.

'The Mystery of The Graveyard Gold' is a short yet descriptive graphic novel for children to realize their own power of asking questions and finding answers. It contains mystery, challenges, friendship and adventure, basically a package to keep children reading.

Aarav and Asha are siblings and had their moments of bonding and fighting. Then there was Karthik, Aarav's classmate who belonged to a rich family coming off as arrogant and too snowy.
One challenge to the graveyard changed the dynamics for all three as they discovered a treasure and went on a mystery find and created their own detective club.
Whose treasure was that? What it was doing in a graveyard? Will their club be able to solve it?

The author has skillfully written the whole story with enough details and short chapters to keep the young readers engaged while the mystery unfolding with every page kept them diving for one more page.

I loved the illustrations, it gave the story an even more interesting view.

I do recommend this book to parents for their growing young minds as it teaches them the importance of team work and friendship. It also inspires them to be more vigilant and aware about their surroundings. So, this book is a perfect pick.

The story initiates with an unlikely alliance and hidden friendship among Karthik and Aarav. A dare by Karthik leads both the boys to the Ulsoor graveyard at midnight. A moment of classic 'detective zeal' leads them to a brass vessel filled with ancient gold coins. The schoolyard rivalry transforms into a high-stake investigation as both the boys become each other's unlikely ally.

The trio gets completed by Aarav's younger sister, Asha. This the name - AKA Detectives. The little girl brings comic relief and vast knowledge to the story - effectively balancing out the dynamics of the novel.

In this book, we witness Bengaluru as a living entity. It flows with the story through Ulsoor, Cambridge Road and Indiranagar as the MCs travel the lanes of the city. This brings the 'Desi' tadke to the novel as local readers find it relatable.

Underneath all the laughter and innocence, lies complex family dynamics of the modern society. The book portrays it as a daily concept, effortlessly incorporating the differences and similarities. It also brings to attention that 'failure is not the last answer'.

This is a 128 page engaging book with monochrome illustrations. The book is a reminiscence of the 90s kid aesthetic yet blends modern Gen alpha trends and habits. The soulful moments of the children being aware of their surroundings, having an adventure and encouraging one another in difficulties brings the reader realistic yet fun reading experience.

Vidya Varadarajan's enthralling illustrated suspense-mystery novel, "The Mystery Of The Graveyard Gold", unfolds the sinister plot of a treasure hunt for answers.

Karthik, Aarav, and Asha, three friends, set out on an adventure to learn the truth about the pot of gold coins they accidentally found in a Bengaluru cemetery. The writing, illustrations, and story were all amazing when I read them. I would have visited all of the locations described if I had read this story as a child. I loved how the relationship dynamics were established between each character.

The touch of Bangalore to the story makes it worth reading. I enjoyed all of the locations that were mentioned in the story because they really added another layer of a fantasy world to my imagination. However, there may be obstacles in the way of obtaining the truth. The friends might face danger as they delve deeper into the mystery. This element of suspense adds another layer to the story, making it more thrilling for young readers.

For young adventurers, "Mystery of Graveyard Gold" looks like it will be a fun and exciting read overall. A compelling narrative that will keep young readers glued to the pages until they reach the satisfying conclusion combines friendship, mystery, hidden treasure, and a hint of danger.

"Life was unfair It was bad enough to be the youngest, but also had to contend with the fact that she was f shortest in her class as well."

An adventure started beacuse of Karthik dare leading to the pot of gold in a Bengaluru graveyard. While reading the story I felt like I also beacme the part of AKA Detective Club whose members were Karthik, Aarav and Asha. This book has a lot to offer as one can see the layers of friendship, adventure, suspense, mystery which make the whole reading process full of thrill.
If I talk about my favourite character from the book it is of Asha, her knowledge about every subject matter and her habit of quoting statistics, her wittiness is simply impressive.

"She turned to her mother. 'Did you know that Godiva stores dip 16.000 strawberries in chocolate per hour on Valentine's Day each year?' "

Apart from offering the engaging storyline this book also has beautiful and meaningful illustrations which makes the whole reading process even more exciting.
This book is not only a perfect read for kids even adults can enjoy reading this book as it will be a reminder of sweet nostalgia for them too.

"You're right, it's not fair. But it may be a trick, like you said. And if it is, I need you here so I can call for backup."

'The Mystery Of The Graveyard Gold' by Vidya Varadarajan is a spellbinding illustrated suspense-mystery novel that unfolds the twisted plot revolving around treasure hunt for answers. Three friends Karthik, Aarav and Asha embarks on a adventure of discovering truth behind the pot of gold coins, which they found accidently in a Bengaluru graveyard.

I still remember reading "The Secret Seven" detective mystery novel series by Enid Blyton and Pamela Butchart during my school days. While reading this mystery saga nostalgia hitted me hard. From appealing illustrations to curious detectives, everything looks wonderful together and gives you a perfect package of entertainment and determination.

All the characters are meticulously crafted keeping in mind their respective personalities that adds a much needed humour in the story. I am in love with the character of "Asha" being youngest member of her group, she knows the art of stealing spotlight through her intelligence and sharp mind.

I finished reading this book in single-sitting due to it's engaging storyline and captivating illustrations that brilliantly depicts the various mind-boggling scenerios in the story.

Cover of the book offers a broad glimpse of story and theme of the book.

Must read❤❤

"It all began, as they had later agreed, when Aarav's mom made him deliver a box of freshly baked homemade muffins to Karthik's house."

Living in a joint family, I have always tried to encourage my cousins to read. That’s why I keep looking for books suitable for different age groups. When I came across this one, the blurb instantly intrigued me. I picked it up for my cousin brother, whose name coincidentally matches one of the lead characters in the book.

The story revolves around three kids, Aarav, Asha, and Karthik, and how one fine day they discover a piece of gold in a graveyard in Bengaluru. As the story unfolds, the trio embarks on a quiet adventure to uncover the truth behind the mystery.

The plot is genuinely very interesting, and my brother was completely engrossed in it. The illustrations are clean, engaging, and perfectly complement the storyline.

The book also subtly teaches values like honesty, friendship, teamwork, and unity.

It’s not a very lengthy read, and with summer vacations just around the corner, I would highly recommend getting this book for the kids around you.

The Mystery of Graveyard Gold was such a fun little adventure from start to finish. The moment I read “pot of gold in a Bengaluru graveyard,” I knew this book was going to be exciting, and it absolutely delivered.

Karthik, Aarav, and Asha make such a lovable trio. Their friendship, banter, and teamwork made the story even more enjoyable. Asha was definitely a standout for me - smart, sharp, and always ready with facts when things got tricky. She brings so much energy to the group.

The mystery itself is fast-paced and full of clues, surprises, and just enough danger to keep things thrilling without being too scary. I loved how the story balances suspense with humour, so it always feels light and entertaining.

What makes this book extra special is the message underneath all the fun: everyone has different strengths, and working together can solve even the biggest puzzles.

It’s the kind of book that keeps young readers curious and turning pages quickly. Perfect for kids who love mysteries, treasure hunts, and adventurous friendships.

Honestly, I would happily read another case with this detective trio.

This book was a fun, mysterious read. It was a whole vibe from the very beginning, as it keeps us curious and makes us keep guessing. The whole spooky setting of the graveyard made it even more adventurous and exciting. The story balances between mystery and friendship, along with adventure. And that's what I liked the most.
The bond shared between Aarav and Asha as brother and sister was so cute. It was a classic adventure call when Karthik challenged Aarav to visit the graveyard. And that's how it all started. I loved Asha and her banter with her brother as well as her inputs. She was the cutest character.
The clues, the twists, gave it a good flow. It had that classic mystery vibe that reminded me of my childhood stories about treasure hunts and adventures.
Overall, I just enjoyed this refreshing read. And I would like to recommend this book to all who love adventure, secrets and thrill.

I am a parent and this is a children's book I had purchased for my son (he has just started chapter books). However the fact that this is a children's book did not stop me from reading it and I must say I simply loved it. I am always up for books in the mystery genre and this one just came up immediately after I had finished Jurassic Park. And I devoured it in a day. The characters are refreshing and the story intriguing. If you have ever read Enid Blyton's books, then this one is for you. An India based mystery book. Do give it a try. Additionally I feel, adults should also read children's literature time and again. They provide a positive outlook to life, inspire hope and foster problem solving skills.

“Would you investigate a mystery if it started in a graveyard at midnight?” 👀
Because honestly… I probably would.
This book starts with two boys, Karthik and Aarav, sneaking into a Bengaluru graveyard after a dare and somehow finding a pot full of ancient gold coins.
And obviously after that, things spiral.
What I loved most is how much this feels like those old-school childhood mystery adventures where kids accidentally uncover something way bigger than they expected. Treasure hunts, secret clues, suspicious discoveries, unlikely friendships, it has that fun nostalgic detective energy throughout.
Also Aarav’s little sister Asha genuinely made the story even more fun. Her comments and chaos were some of my favourite parts.

Do you love reading Famous Five and Secret Seven, then this book is for you, story of 3 unlike friends who turn detectives. The author has added many elements to the story like: mystery, adventure, friendship, sibling love and a glimse of ancient history. Author has very beautifully captured the strengths of all 3 children. The illustrations in the book makes little readers more enthusiastic to know what happens next. Language used is simple with crisp descriptive narrative, plot is engaging, book is fast paced, leaving readers eagerly anticipating about the next chapter. A refreshing and Recommended read. It questions if they will risk themselves for the gold. The story emphasizes standing for the truth, love for siblings, and bravery. My niece loved this and I enjoyed it as well.

The Mystery of the Graveyard Gold by Vidya Varadarajan is a middle-grade fiction novel and the first part in the AKA detective series. Karthik and Aarav live in the same apartment complex, but Aarav cannot stand Karthik because he gets everything he wants while Aarav does not because of his strict parents. One day, Aarav’s mother sends him to Karthik’s house with freshly baked muffins, and suddenly Karthik challenges him to spend the night in a graveyard. What follows is the discovery of a pot of gold in a graveyard and the beginning of an unexpected friendship as both Karthik and Aarav embark on a quest to uncover the mystery behind it. Along with Aarav’s nine-year-old sister, Asha, will the boys be able to uncover the truth surrounding the pot of gold? Read the book to find out.

The biggest highlight of this for me was the beautiful and fun illustrations by Charbak Dipta, which helped bring the story to life page by page. At around 128 pages, it is also a very fast-paced and engaging read that I finished in no time. I am already excited to pick up the second book in the series.

If you enjoy fast-paced mysteries, fun adventures, and adorable friendships, definitely give this one a try.
