Although it has been quite a while, I would say it was quite useful in getting an insight into how the language works. (Four tones that can mean very different things in Mandarin if you pronounce it wrong. Plus great when they have you attempt sentences even if that will take a lot of practice to get reasonably good.)

Not enough to help you should you go to China (quickly becomes obvious you are in over your head in a business conference call webcast that is said in Mandarin but gets translated to English and vice versa), but perhaps gives you an intuition and should help you get an idea to learn the Mandarin equivalents of English words should you attempt to learn it on your own.

As usual, I do really like the method of the Michel Thomas Method.
