Deep in the mountains of Colorado stands an old house shrouded in mist. A lonely, divorced woman will come face to face with the attractive man who owns the property. She will find herself in a world of paranormal mystery: a place where the lost are taken care of, the injured are healed, and time stands still.
A word weaver for the romantic soul, I write otherworldly romance stories featuring plot twists and protector heroes as well as soul-nourishing poetry. I am a wife and mother of two. I live in Kansas with my husband.
Maizie’s character development was strong and made me want to spend even more time with her. She was an intelligent, resourceful person who could quickly solve problems if she felt threatened or confused. This is something I’m always happy to come across in stories, especially ones involving a woman driving alone in the middle of nowhere who has car trouble and needs to seek help. That’s a situation that just about any woman would feel rather vulnerable in, so it was a relief to meet a character who took her predicament so seriously.
It was never quite clear to me what the limitations of the paranormal elements of the storyline were. They seemed to wax and wane depending on what Maizie and Tony were currently doing, but it was never entirely clear to me if this was because their moods were influencing the spirit world or if this were a coincidence. If more attention had been paid to the logic of how this all worked, I would have happily given this tale a higher rating as it was well-written and memorable.
I must tip my cap at the author for their creative and thought-provoking ending. It was not at all what I expected it to be, but it fit the tone of this tale perfectly and made me wish for a sequel. There’s definitely something to be said for stories that play around with the audience’s expectations in order to keep their genre fresh and interesting.
This story is filled with unexpected surprises. Not your typical romance novel. It’s an enjoyable read and so hard to put down. I grew to love the characters and wanted the story to continue when it ended. Definitely not what I expected when I picked it up.
S.V. Brosius has a way of sweeping you away with a narrative that is at once straightforward and mysterious. Her tale is like a mountain drive, full of unexpected turns and heart-touching beauty.
Paranormal romance is not a genre I read much of. I picked this book up at local event after hearing the author talk about it. A twilight zone type plot about a mysterious lost house in the woods? Yes please! 😀
Love the main character. A down on her luck, lonely lady. She felt so normal. I loved how she talked! Even with all the paranormal stuff going on, Maize felt grounded in reality. 🙂
The plot is mysterious and sexy. Sexy ghost time!! ❤ WOOOT! But the story is also saddddddd. So tragic! D: I am glad the main character feels good at the end of the story, but it was a bittersweet ending.
Also, the ending kinda confused me a little? The son asked Maize for help with the details of the missing house…. but Maize says “no.”? Nah, I’m good…. and……… that’s it? :/ I don’t understand why she wouldn’t just help the son? He even says it is for his family legacy…… and still it’s a hard no from her?? :/ Huh? Why? I don’t understand…..
Aside from the slight confusion on the end, this is a fast paced, romantic story with all the feels. A very dreamy location that has plenty of mystery to keep you wondering. Mountain Interlude is a quick read that is hard to put down! Plus, sexy ghost! 😀
