THE SEQUEL IS REAL!’Twas the night before Christmas...After a Christmas Eve EMP attack blinds America and Europe, triggering a meticulously planned attack on the West’s civilian populations, only a ragtag team of neighbors stands in the way of a new Axis invasion.Nuclear attacks wipe out city centers. Chinese tanks roll out of Baltimore’s ports with their sights set on Mount Weather—the bunker protecting the acting US President and what’s left of the tattered military command. Lieutenant Commander Joey Washington has information about the attack that might turn the tide of battle, but can she deliver it to the underground stronghold before the tanks come crashing in?It seems every devil is descending on America to dance on her grave. Mark Sibley is a corporate crisis manager and war gamer. He’s developed and facilitated over a hundred war games for various organizations over the years and managed as many real-world crises for those organizations. This experience, along with a life-long dream of writing a novel, provided him fertile ground for pulling together all the aspects of this story and developing them into what became Mongol Moon. If you tell a war gamer that a particular bad thing can’t happen, that war gamer will come up with a plausible scenario to prove you wrong...eventually.
He is a life-long Virginian and lives in the Commonwealth with his wife, three kids, and current pack of female terriers, two Boston Terriers, Izzy (the Alpha) and Dobby (the one without a brain), and the ever-ferocious Chewie the Wookie, a five-pound Yorkshire Terrier with one fang. At any given time, there is also a foster dog at the house, rounding out their pack.
“A Dance of Devils” is the continuation of Mark Sibley’s first novel, “Mongol Moon”.
The United States has seen war brought fully to the homeland. In the first book, 21st century technology has been brought back to the 19th century in a flash, for the most part. The worse horrors have been brought to cities. And the barbarians are fully past the gate and well into the perimeter…all is not lost.
Intrepid heroes range across the landscape, in search of family and friends. Instant promotions occur to keep our Republic semi-functioning, and a Civil War-esque March occurs to halt the bad actors.
Elements of the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Scots, Russians, Chinese, Minutemen and of course, the US Marines and their beloved Abrams MBT, Alice, are featured across many story arcs. The spirit of the Minuteman was rekindled nicely in this novel.
This is the middle part of the WWIII tale woven by Mark. As with the first book, it provided me lots of food for thought and kept me focused on the Scout Motto “Be Prepared”. Please read this book. It is very entertaining, enlightening and light hearted in the right places.
When I first started reading Mongol Moon (book #1), I was like "wow, this is a really good book and with an elaborate yet realistic plot!" After about 80% of the book, I was like, "wow, there's a lot of loose ends left to resolve in just a few more pages. Mark has his work cut out for him." On the last page..."Damn you, Mark!"
Mark made us suffer for years waiting for the sequel but A DANCE OF DEVILS was worth the wait. Mark has a talent for weaving storylines and a menagerie of interesting characters into unnerving, yet plausible apocalyptic scenarios. He also provides lots more epic tank battles, badass paratrooper action, and the apocalypse/taco catharsis we've all been waiting for. Kudos to Mark on delivering another rock'n thriller.
Where to begin.......I really liked and enjoyed Mongol Moon. I am a retired history and government teacher and felt it both plausible and enjoyable if a bit unsettling. A Dance of Devils I loved, loved, loved! The characters being so human is what sells this for me. Regardless of nationality to me they are very real. To have a character named Alice......befriended by so many helpful souls (Nelson) had me up late two nights unable to sleep for want of helping. There are GREAT popular cultural references mixed in with witty banter and superb characterizations. Looking forward to the next one!!!! Highly recommend if you dwell in the pool of humanity and "what ifs".
Seriously enjoyed this sequel as well as it's predecessor Mongol Moon. I really enjoyed a few things about the book. First, it gets to the action fairly quickly. Sometimes these types of books seem to have all build up, but not the actual events happening until the end. Secondly, in my opinion, the author does a great job of making the reader care about the characters and root for them. This isn't a one sided affair either, for example there are a couple PLA characters whose story is very enthralling and entertaining. Lastly, there are real stakes in the book. There's no magic wand that fixes everything, but rather it shows a real ground level look at what could happen if such a destructure event occurred.
One, neighborhood cul-de-sac with families related to active military service members, astronauts and spy's, like millions of others all over America, fights off an invasion force of Chinese, Russian and Iranians forces, with one tank and protects the president of the United States of America. Totally logical.
Fantastic follow up to Mongol Moon. Sibley jumps right back into the action. Love the funny Easter eggs hidden throughout the book from his X (Twitter) interactions with some truly funny characters. Finished the book in 3 days, couldn’t put it down. Now, how do we get Tavis off the boat?

I along with others have waited a while for this and Mark delivered. The sequel was better than I could have hoped. Lots of cameos if you know what you’re looking for. The writing was excellent and the story even better.
even better than the first book. There's a continuous rush of exciting events with great combat scenes. The author manages his galaxy of characters well and they almost all come across with some level of depth. All in all a must read !
This is an excellent follow-up to book one. The different encounters are very realistic and all of the characters are very believeable. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in lots and lots of action.
Once again I enjoyed the actions scenes, but felt the book had too many characters and subplots. It was hard to keep track of all the personal relationships and it detracted from the primary story of the war for me. Still, worth a read...
