I have fallen in love with all male reverse harem stories so when I saw this one was releasing I got incredibly excited. This was another amazing one and I’m so happy I was able to read it. I would recommend looking at the trigger warnings and if you’re sensitive to murder or kidnapping at all in your romances I would stay far away!

Kit was an absolutely fantastic main male for a RH. He was troubled and had a terrible past that was much worse than I was thinking when we finally found out what it was. I couldn’t imagine going through what he did. All of his men brought something different for him and it was amazing seeing his transformation from someone living his life numb to someone happy (even if the way he gets there is “abnormal”).

I loved three of Kit’s men from the very beginning. As soon as we met Bishop, James and Darius I was all for them and their relationship and extracurriculars! I liked that they were all different personalities and had different jobs. Holden was a lot harder for me to like. It took until like the second last chapter for me to come around to him! But the best of that is I have so much more time to learn to love him in the next books as this isn’t a standalone!!

I cannot wait for the next book. This one doesn’t end on a cliffhanger per se but does leave you wanting more! I highly recommend this story!

I think this story started out great, but I did not like that ending at all. I'm upset because out of all the people to tell his story to, Kit tells the one person who actually planned to murder him and the one he just met. The one that definitely didn't deserve to hear it. I can't get over the fact that Haden strung Kit along (even if he did end up falling for Kit) with plans to murder him, and Kit was just like, "Yes, I love it." Disgusting. I didn't like Haden at all. I don't see how Kit wasn't triggered by all of that. This could have gone a completely different direction and been so much better. I was so hoping Kit would be honest with the others, but no, he continued to lie and hide stuff from them. Also, somebody always gets left out of the harem until the very end. I really don't understand why. I was hoping this one would be different, but it wasn't. I should have dnf this book when I started to realize I wouldn't like it.

A dark romance MM why choose about serial killers? Say less.

New one for me! No idea why I haven’t strayed into MM WC before but the idea’s got legs so watch me add a bunch to my TBR 👀

This had good potential but I felt like the story lacked a bit of depth in pretty much all the main areas. The motivations of Holden specifically were flimsy at best. I’m assuming Kit’s background is left open ended for the upcoming books to delve into further but it was frustrating to not really get enough insight into it in this book. It feels like it’s influencing things but there are no clues as to why/how which was frustrating. The relationships between all the MC’s weren’t fleshed out enough before they got in deep either imo. I didn’t feel the connection tangibly enough.

Mmmmm meh. Of the four MCs Bishop is my favourite, and it was frustrating he didn’t get much relationship-time, but the others I could sort of take or leave. Holden I especially don’t vibe with. He’s a little too cuckoo for coco puffs 😅

Still a decidedly fun read tho! All that aside it’s written well and is fairly funny.

I think what pissed me off with the book was the teasing of Kit's past, then when the reveal takes place, it's almost like clearing up loose ends of the plot rather than adding on anything really new or mind blowing.

The book was hot. I like that the guys each have their own personalities but at the same time it is also a disadvantage as they seem to be the same person, just cut 4 different, escalating on unhingness, ways.

The Holden angle I do not get. And this more than anything will probably mean this is my first and last foray into this series. Because in the end he gets away with what he's done and it isn't a minor thing. And it seemingly contradicts what Bishop was doing/stands for, from the very beginning.

And while the subject matter is dark, the book isn't dark, dark. Like I wasn't terrified nor loathed any of the protagonists enough like you usually feel with really dark books (at least for me).

Then, I think I would have loved more a book where everybody is loving everybody rather than all dicks point for Kit and Kit only.

So, not bad, but not great either.

Ok look, I picked this up on a whim. The blurb said it was gonna be a harem romance and we all know I cannot resist that many m's.

Firstly, this is a new to me writer and I loved the writing style. It was great and each mc was different.

Secondly, I loved Kit, James, Bishop, and Darius. They made getting to the end of this extremely long story worth it. I didn't like Holden at all. Not even by the end.

Thirdly, this was an actual dark romance.

Fourthly, I liked that Bishop ending.

Now onto my only complaint for this one.

This was too long. I know this was a kindle vella story first and you can actually see that in the writing and weird editing of the chapters, but it needed to be cut down a lot.

I kind of lost steam for the story near the middle, but finished just because I needed to know how this one ended.

I enjoyed this quite a bit! I love a good mmm+ romance and it's been a minute since I read a book that kept me intrigued till the end. I think the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I felt the pov of each character got confusing, especially in the beginning when I'm trying to learn the names. Overall though, I really liked it

My expectations going into this book were, less just say quite low. I was fully expecting to DNF it early on. Books with similar themes tend to be too edgy, try to hard and fail miserably. I also tend to side eye a lot of books with “psychopaths” in them due to appalling representation and frankly very boring tropes. Boy was I happy to be proven wrong.

This book was Fun capital F. And I couldn’t put it down. Some parts were a bit darker (check the great content notes) but it balanced it very well with humor. It doesn’t take itself serious, it’s not edgy and it works so well.

I really appreciated how distinct each character was. And the interactions between them. And how I was invested in all of them. My biggest surprise was how much I liked Kit. Kit is the twink that all the killers go crazy about. Normally this kind of character is so boring. With the only characteristics being in constant need of saving, being small and “so special”. Kit is indeed in need of saving, he is small and he is special. But he is also a lot more. He has an interesting background, he is a horny disaster in the best way and he isn’t one dimensional. And I for once could see why the other MCs fell for him or found him fascinating.

I also enjoyed the pacing. And while it doesn’t end in a cliff hanger, it leaves you very excited for the next book. Which I cannot wait to read when it’s out.

Very recommended. Fun murder bois, what’s not to like?

I have mixed feelings about this one. I want to start by saying I didn't like Holden at all. I feel like he gets a way with what he did, and I don't understand why Kit liked him this much. Also, the way kit's past was resolved was not satisfactory, hence the three star rating.
It's not a bad book, but I'm definitely not going to continue with the series.

This book was a 5 until it got closer to the end; I'm not a fan of the whole thing with Holden. I'd much rather have Bishop more in the picture than Holden, and actually I wish Holden wasn't in it at all. The rest of it was excellent and very hot. Well-written, intriguing, and with four very likeable main characters (again - NOT Holden). It reminded me of Avril Ashton, although my dislike of Holden did diminish that a bit. Will definitely read book 2 when it comes out though. I'm guessing Bishop will become more tangled up with the main group. I do hope Holden dies or something but I don't see that happening.

This was a fun little reverse harem read! (For the most part)
I felt like there was a decent amount of unique bits in here that kept me very entertained and invested. I loved Kit as our main character and most of his murderous boyfriends…

But I didn’t understand the whole Holden storyline…he gave me the ick from his first interaction and it just kept getting worse! I think I would have liked this a lot more if it was just Kit, James, Darius and Bishop as a “couple” and then Holden was the big baddie that they got rid of at the end.

I’m mildly interested in continuing this series, but time will tell. 🤷‍♀️

Kindle edition

Picked because it was a poly. Sat on the kindle for a bit before getting round to it. It was a bit insta, although Bishop meeting first is holding out to be last. James was the speedy all in, the way they just moved in together made my head spin. Darius was a bit slower, but pretty much right along there with James, leaving Holden to find space between them, but still get more action than Bishop. Covers some dark themes. Ultimately focused on Kit getting his boyfriends. The trackers were a nice idea, curious what Holden's will be. Its one of those ones that I'm curious what happens next, but one I wouldn't jump to read. Best bit was Kit breaking up with Holden because he thought he was normal.

I didn’t expect to love this story as much as I did (and I expected to love it cause hello, psychos and killers and sexy men!), the author kept me intrigued and interested through the entire thing. Kit is a little broken bird at the beginning of this story, depressed and just existing until he finds himself in a crime scene. This is where we meet Bishop, our vigilante, and James, our survivor. Immediately I loved them both. Bishop and intense blue eyes and gray morality, sucked me in while James and his intense and playful banter made me smile. Then we meet Darius, our professional and he was cool, calm and collected while being caring and protective. And our final killer, Holden, the psycho, shows up last. Holden comes across as this youthful, sweet, ball of sunshine and normalcy to Kit but we know he is anything but. During all this, Bishop is trying to solve some murders with Kit’s help, and Darius and James are trying to protect Kit. And Holden is stalking Kit. It all centers around Kit and let me tell you, Kit is a mystery even with us inside his head. He has some deep, dark secrets in his past. This book handles some hard to swallow topics without going into details. This book was sexy, fun, intriguing, mysterious and delightfully twisted with all the murder. The writing is well done. I can’t wait to see what comes next for these guys, and hopefully get some answers to so many questions about our killers and boy. This book was an enjoyable read, that I devoured quickly. Now I will just impatiently wait for book 2.

I honestly have no clue what to think about this one. It kept me entertained enough to keep me reading fairly regularly without getting distracted, which, especially lately, is definitely saying something. But probably not enough to read the next one… Hence the 3 stars, I guess?

This has to be the most quietly fucked up thing I’ve read in a longtime and I enjoyed every second of it! Literally foaming out the mouth for book 2 rn cause I just love all these men. James, slay. Darius, raw. Holden, I’m fascinated. Bishop, well debatable on his part but I’ll bite lol.

The author wasn’t wrong when she described this as a slow burn and a fast burn and the same time. I’m very impressed with the pacing and how it guided the dynamics of the plot. It was beautiful to watch unfold and the unpredictability of it had me at the edge of my sit.

Now with kit, I’m very obsessed with the layers of his character. I love the unbelievable and very unhinged devotion his men have for him. I love his quite strength and undeniable beauty. I would say we got more of some personalities than we did the remaining cause Darius and Bishop are still more of a mystery to me than James and Holden but you see that’s part of the reasons why I’m so damn excited for book 2.

I can’t wait to see what beautiful things the author does with this story and please omg make the spice more descriptive in book 2!! We need more of that good fucking from all ends!!

This was going to be 4 stars until the end, because WTH was that. I liked the start of this as an RH relationship with all men, though I feel like it did move quickly with the relationships. It also left it open for deeper relationships to develop between the guys. But seriously that ending was not it and didn’t make sense.

Eeeh, it was fine I guess 🤷‍♀️ My biggest issue with this book were that it was too many people in this poly-relationship. I wish Holden were killed at the end, I didn't like him that much at all. I preferred Kit with James, Darius and Bishop only.

I’m conflicted about this story. It was more graphic than I would like, that’s on me though, the author did a good job of adding trigger warnings and disclaimers at the beginning.

Story wise I do feel like there was just too much going on. Between the hit, the tragic backstory, the college killings, the multiple kidnapping, ect. - it still felt like nothing really happened. I get that this is supposed to be book one in an overall series but it reads like a completed story with a HPN plot line. I wonder how much of this is due to the story originating as a kindle vella.

Personally, I don’t see the draw of Bishop or Holden with Kit, James (mostly James tbh) and Darius held all the chemistry with Kit and honestly you could have cut the second plot out completely without issues and had it be MMM instead.

I likely won’t continue the story due to how graphic it was but who knows?

There is no doubt that dark romance is a popular genre, I have read countless romance novels that skirt the boundaries, or blatantly cross into territories that are not romance, dark or ordinary. Dark romance, in itself, is not a terrible genre when done right but I've read few books that have dealt with dark romance interestingly or originally, and many dark romance love interests SHOULD NOT get the girl/boy. Full. Stop. Any book that uses rape and Stockholm Syndrome as a romance device and allows such an individual to get with their victim is just wrong, especially when there is no true chemistry between the characters. (I am thinking of the likes of Rina Kent's Killian and Glyndon pairing here but you could cut and paste almost any bad romance characters here.)

Perfect Prey is not as awful a dark romance. It doesn't paint Kit as a victim who just roles over and submits, but rather as a survivor who will do what he needs to get where he wants or needs to be. There is admittedly little chemistry here but compared to many MF romances I've read, there is more chemistry between these four/five than there usually is in the straight romance alternatives. Oftentimes, the girl gets with the boy because it seems expected and not because of any chemistry or plot reasoning. It's as if the author goes boy meets girl, I'll add a plot later.

Kit is an interesting character, in so far as he is willing to do what is necessary to survive. The reveal at the end kind of spoils the build-up of his character. It is implied he is on the run and granted someone is after him, but the resolution is incredibly disappointing and not the firework ending we are all hoping for. Still, Kit is an interesting character. At some points, he is rightfully afraid and very much aware that the men around him are bad, and yet he can speak up and test these men with a bravery that is either very stupid or bold.

The love interests themselves are perhaps the most interesting characters of this book. All with different backgrounds that give them varying morality and reasons for being murderers. Bishop is an ex-cop who left the force to make sure the bad guys actually get punished. James is out for revenge since his whole family got murdered. Darius is a hired killer. And Holden is a serial killer and psychopath. And all are obsessed with the brave and yet cowardly Kit.

Problem was, instead of some twisted dark romance where the author works to balance them out and define their stories. What we get is pretty much porn with plot. That doesn't take away from the story necessarily, I am an fanfiction reader and I've read some interesting stuff in the past. PWP doesn't deter me. But when I am reading what I hope to be a good novel, I like a decent plot. This book promised a decent plot, a great reveal and yet failed to deliver. Basically, we are supposed to believe there is some big bad that the murderous lovers will deal with to protect their beloved Kit, spoiler, this doesn't happen. The big bad we're promised isn't all that big or bad. And the reveal of why Kit is like he is...it is sad. I felt for Kit, but it wasn't the big reveal I wanted or desired.

The sex scenes weren't bad, per se, but nothing to write home about. And one of the four men doesn't even get a sex scene with Kit, it is only implied he gets with Kit at the end. The murderers definitely had dark possessive personalities. James was possessive. Darius kept warning Kit and being all dark and brooding. Holden was obsessive and Bishop was all watchful and hungry.

Overall, a promising an interesting premise but I don't think the author pulled it off all that well. I think this book could have been made significantly better with more fleshed out sex scenes, kinks and more development of the male love interest characters. And a better big bad to overcome at the end. Holden should have been more like Dexter from Dexter. Jame's character was pretty great already as a entrepreneur and heir. Darius is a hired killer and his backstory could have been interesting too. But Bishop was perhaps the best of the four. An ex cop, who left the force to make sure the bad guys get what is coming to them, but also works as a PI to ensure the bad guys get arrested and sent to jail. Wow, if the author had done more with his character, we might have had a really fantastic story here!

Instead, it was so-so. A good story that could have been made a million times better with more character lore and development and perhaps some more sex scenes, where one character wasn't excluded and deprived of an intimate moment with Kit? I also agree with another reviewer that Kit is too eager. Regardless of his past, why would Kit willingly jump into bed with not one but three murderers when he is supposed to be afraid and normal? The romance is perhaps too quick and the development of the characters were too short.

Overall, a story with great potential but it didn't really achieve that potential.

I fell like maybe I shouldn't enjoy this as much I as I had...

I mean, do you feel like sometimes, what you're reading just might be telling... something, not sure what but something not so... stellar about you just? That while you are not really ashamed or whatever BS you should feel but you are also super perfectly very much certain you are not going to mention you have read this book in "polite" company?

I am a gamer, okay, so I definitely shouldn't even entertain this nonsense so I know playing shooter games does not make one a killer no more than playing farming games make one a farmer but...

Well, let's just say this book is kind of messed up - I've read worse, which... forget I said, I mean, the guys are actually nice. There are some jerks masquerading as love interests but I didn't have that impression here, I think I just liked with the weird stuff, I really, really liked the dynamic, the messed decisions and plot twists... just, yes, more, I am your kind of reader.

Holden was the one... the best and the worst, I'd say. Most interesting? I hope this isn't a spoiler but I thought he was actually going to be the Bad Guy and I had to like backtrack to the blurb just so make sure I can be okay with Kit accepting his overtures.

The poly stuff was especially well-handled, I must say. Not only were they introduced separately, they felt very unique, not just, oh, this bossy, tall, hot guy is a doctor and that bossy, slightly less tall, slightly more narrow down there (but slightly longer, of course) guy with a different coloured hair is a lawyer. Their relationships felt unique and they definitely didn't progress in a predictable manner.

And of course Kit himself was a piece of work in the best way - you have to craft a certain personality for this kind of plot and Kit was definitely the right kind of vulnerable and demanding and moral and messed up and nice and accepting...

I didn't really get into Vella stuff but I might just need to change that. Very subjective, read everything and make sure you like this kind of stuff recommend.

Wow! This book is one serious wild ride and I couldn't put it down! One of the best new author reads that I've found in a long time. I was completely sucked in from the start.
I don't want to give too much away because part of the thrill of this book are all the twists and turns and second guessing that you really want to experience fresh. You have five main characters:
Bishop: stoic, highly moral, ex-cop turned P.I./vigilante
James: "like a squirrel on crack", smart mouth, sarcastic, funny, possessive, victim/killer/kind of vigilante
Darius: calm, centered, respectful, responsible, hidden well of passion, assassin
Holden: obsessive, strange personality layers, unexpected and ... 😉

and Kit: victim, hiding, filled with fear and guilt, yearning for safety and love, kinky little twink

When these men all meet and intersect it's explosive in so many ways! Lots of heat 🔥🔥🔥, angst, dark themes and a big mystery that will have you guessing until the end which will blow you away!! I loved how the author set up the intertwined relationships and didn't try to just thrust them all together immediately. It's definitely going to end up as a poly group but it's not all going to happen overnight - which makes it that much more plausible and enticing. There's lots of room for growth in future books and I'm so excited for those. I think one of my favorite characters so far is James. Although he's kind of ADHD and chaotic, there's a core of vulnerability that tells me that a lot of his random uncontrollable behavior is a mask for his hidden pain. He seems to really need the group, almost more than Kit. And Kit's story just rocked me to my soul. I can't even fathom experiencing what he did!
This book is one that's going to start with me long after the last page and I seriously can't recommend it enough! Yes, it's dark, but it has a lot of levity between the shadows, great world building and complex characters. The perfect combination! 5/5*

This was such a dissapointing book!

1. First of all, the characters had an uneven amount of screne time. It was basically Kit in a relationship with James and the rest were just side pieces.
2. Maybe because Holden was an "outsider" but I felt like Kit was cheating with him. He flirted and hooked up with Holden before James even knew about him especially when they were already in that boyfriend stage.
3. I could care less about Holden. I just didn't like him at all. I hated how Kit told Holden his family secret/story first before he told anyone else. Holden didn't do anything to deserve that trust. If I were the other men, I would've been hurt that he confided in Holden first.
4. Kit really is messed up. He's either bias or straight up dumb to think Holden is no different than the rest of the men. He was actually worse. Holden purposely sought out Kit (for a petty reason), stalked him, approached him with the pretense of being a safe person, drugged him, kidnapped him, and then tried to kill him! Yet Kit still wanted him smh. And we're supposed to believe Holden's all changed after a "talk" with Kit. I don't think he's a "psycho" but just a wannabe.
4. There was one too many men. I would've preferred to read more about Bishop than Holden. What was the point of even adding him if he was going to be kept on the side? Plus he is the only sane one there and I totally understand why he "rejected" Kit the first time and why he kept a boundary. Kit really is too greedy and dumb for his own good. And the other men were just enabling him.
5. This is the first poly book I've read where it just didnt feel right. I felt like Kit just wanted anyone and everyone and the men just went with it. It felt too forced.

Hmmm, look, in the end, they still owe me the orgy scene with the five of them, but WHATEVER. Turns out this is a series, so I guess I’ll have to wait for the next book.
I wasn’t expecting much, and it actually surprised me—in a good way. I think it’s mostly because I went in with the mindset that “Perfect Prey” is just easy entertainment. There’s nothing deep about the story—it’s porn, yeah, and you can totally tell Vasha Crow wrote this with one hand because holy hell, the story’s so horny, it’s hilarious. The sex scenes are fire, like straight-up Xvideos-level hot. The plot is kinda meh—it’s unrealistic as hell and, okay, feels like a bad mix of 365 Days and an action flick. This novel isn’t meant to be taken seriously, for real.
Sorry, but what’s the appeal of a traumatized twink with a personality flatter than a potato? Like, why are four dudes losing their minds over him and ready to jump into some murderous poly relationship?
I gotta give it props for the pacing, though. If it took me over a month to finish, it’s only because I prioritized Christmas reads. But whenever I picked up “Perfect Prey”, the world around me melted away, and I got completely sucked into the story. On the other hand, all the stuff about Kit’s past and the consequences on his mind was actually handled pretty well—I bought into it, and that part didn’t feel over-the-top to me.

This book grabbed me from page 1 and I read it in one sitting. The 5 main characters were so compelling, each in their own way, and broken from things in their past, leading 4 of them to become murderers for various reasons. Four killers, all intrigued by and drawn to Kit for their own reasons, and each one fulfilling a different need in Kit. It took a long time to learn part of what demons broke Kit and left him the empty person he was, but these four men made him feel safe in different ways, protecting him and making him feel seen, wearing down some of his walls. James was very possessive, but also shared Kit with Darius, Darius was calmer and could keep Kit centered, Bishop knew Kit the most but would not give in to the strong attraction he had to Kit from the moment they met, and Holden had an obsession with Kit that couldn’t be controlled. Even though Bishop, James, and Darius were murderers, they were characters I liked as people, Holden less so although he could mask his true self pretty well. There were lots of twists and turns and plenty of action, with never a dull moment. There is apparently a book 2 in the works, and if it was out yet, I would be reading it right now, these characters and their interactions not letting me go. A dark book but one I would recommend if that is your thing. Can’t wait for book 2, loved this one so much.
I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my voluntary review.
