I think one of Hazuki's greatest strengths in this series is showing the uncertainty that comes of being in high school. Even though Mei knows where she wants to go afterwards, at at least in what direction, she's still awkward and uncertain of herself, something she recognizes in Len. The scenes between the two of them were some of the strongest in the volume, and the best at showing Mei's growth while she still remains herself.

I love these character so much ugh and their growth in each book reminds me of my own journey thru life and gets me so emotional. I love the afterwords the author includes about herself, they make me maybe even more emotional than the books themselves lol

Mei helps Yamato sort out his feelings regarding photography. I love how much thought they're putting into their futures, and how they are constantly there for each other. Every story is so carefully intertwined with these beautiful relationships where not just the main characters, but the people around them are growing as well. This is masterfully done!

Suki-Tte Ii Na Yo a.k.a Say I Love You

A light read filled with positive messages.

(The rating and review are conclusion for all of the volumes excluding the synopsis. Beware of spoiler.)

《 Plot 》
The pace of the story is good. Although there are 18 volumes all over, it doesn’t make you lose interest in it. The story starts by introducing Mei who's a bully victim. She doesn’t have any friends because she always distances herself from people. This is because she has been betrayed by her friends back in the middle school. Ever since then, she never trusts people anymore. However, she begins to change when she gets to know Yamato. Yamato is a popular guy that has many friends and is wayyy too friendly with girls. He starts to approach Mei when she kicked him because of some misunderstanding that happened. Yamato pursues Mei every day which eventually leads them being together. The story starts to develop from there and it’s being told from Mei’s POV.

《 Characters 》
Mei Tachibana, the heroine
When Mei starts falling in love with Yamato, she feels scared of showing everything to him. I can relate to that a lot because you don't know how things will be so it's scary. There are other moments that I can relate to but I won't tell you to avoid spoiler.

At one point, Mei begins to change herself by engaging more with people around her. That's what makes her strong and kind girl. She is very observant of people around her and tries to help them the best she can. I love her character development.

Yamato Kurosawa, the hero
Yamato is a typical cool who is popular for his kindness. Despite being a cool popular guy, he still has his own flaws. There are some issues that he struggles with but didn't let people see him in that way. I wouldn't really picture him as a really good guy. He has his flaw but he learns to change little by little.

《 Pros & Cons 》
Realistic & healthy relationship
↳ There are several couples born in this comic and each of them shows what relationship is likely to be in real life especially Mei’s relationship. If you have been in a relationship, several situations that happened will make you go “Omg, I went through that too!”. On top of that, most of them are in a healthy relationship making it enjoyable to read.

Positive messages
↳ It touches the issue of bully and friendship. Although Mei has been bullied, she doesn’t retaliate at those who had betrayed her back then. It also shows that life is more wonderful with loyal companions being by your side.

The art drawn
↳ It’s not that the art are bad or anything. It’s just not really my cup of tea. I noticed that the art was changing slightly as the volume continues on. It got better in my opinion.

《 Extras 》
My favourite manga! I keep going back to this whenever I feel like reading something light and fun. This is my first manga that I read when I first started to read comic. I was so happy when I found out this comic had completed in English version. These are several quotes that I love from this story.
“Nothing makes a girlfriend more insecure than a boyfriend who's kind to everyone.”
“No matter how beautiful you are, when you're dating someone, all of your flaws come out.”
“If you want to move forward, sometimes, you can't keep doing things the way you've always done them. That peace of mind ruins you and hurts people.”
“You can get stronger by loving others and letting them love you.”

⚝ Who should read? ⚝
❥ Enjoy high school story.
❥ Love friendship theme story.
❥ Can tolerate typical “famous guy” falls for “unpopular girl”.

3.5-4 stars.

I really loved the conversation that Yamato had with the photographer he went to. I loved the advice h gave him and how he talked about his own experience and embarrassment and really made himself relatable and nonjudgmental towards Yamato, who is very much a beginner and still confused. That was just really well done and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I also really like Len and how even though he can be a bit harsh and standoffish, he is still a nice person who helps people whenever he can. I hope he can get close with the main friend group, especially before they all graduate. It's interesting seeing how similar he is to how Mei was in the beginning on the series and being shown how different she is now and how much progress she has made as a person. I also really liked seeing her around the kindergarteners and potentially finding a passion in childcare.

I'm not sure how I feel about Ren yet and if I like her or think she's being genuine towards Kai and Megumi. I also wonder if they are going to end up in a love triangle.

But overall, I really love seeing the characters trying to figure our and work towards their futures. I would really like if a character started working towards one type of career and realizes at some point that its not a right fit for them and move on to a different career.

HOLY SHIT. I feel so fucking bad for ren, teenage internet boys can be so evil. Poor guy. Although I cant relate to him on the whole “twin sister who outshines you” aspect there are other parts where I can totally feel for him. Not wanting to be in the spotlight and struggling with the way people perceive you and how they judge you prematurely. Im actually really glad it was Mei who talked to him about it and gave him some advice regarding how to deal with it and how she’s someone who he can lean on. Im not too sure if he has discussed these issues with Rin, but from what I can tell she seems compassionate so she might blame herself if she knew her brother was feeling like this, which would explain why he’s carrying the burden alone. While on the topic of Rin I really really love her character??? Like so much actually and her date with Kai was so sweet im rooting for them to become a power couple in the future. And speaking of power couples I thought it was so sweet how Mei went over to talk to Megumi even though she might not be her favorite person after everything that has happened, but she pushed past that to help her boyfriend who she saw was struggling. They are both so good for each other in different ways and compliment each other so well

Everyone’s trying to get their life and careers together in this one! Yamato is exploring photography as a potential career and Mei is exploring working with children!

Ren reminds me a lot of Kenma from Haikyuu LOL
Also even though he’s a side character I quite like his type of character. Oh what I would do if a MC was someone like Ren... I guess there are some but for it to be a shoujo manga would definitely be the cherry on top haha

I feel like Kanae Hazuki wrote this manga not only for the romance but to allow her audience to see how different people and in different situations all heal in various ways. Although I might not care about everyone’s story I find it endearing in a very sonder-esque way (●´ω`●)

Also I kind of slowed my pace for this manga (yesterday was 4 volumes and today was 2 I think) for some reason. It might be because my inner subconscious realized that the end is near 💔

Yamato begins to struggle with his future as its harder than it first initially appears. Then in a super sweet turn of events Mei realizes this and has some interesting inner turmoil about wanting to help him and realizing she too cant really help. Its sweet to see Hazuki write that even those that may have a more clear idea for their future after high school cam struggle as turning hobbies or little fun things into career aspirations can be hard. I really loved the line “Instead of brooding because we don't know what to do let's remember that we haven't even started. We have nothing to lose. Let's struggle in whatever way we can. To move forward.” Its from Mei halfway through the book and shows the vibe and ideas Hazuki is portraying.
Both Mei and Yamato go through challenges as they explore their future career goals and confidence in each other.
Rin and Kai begin to date which is ugh to me. I enjoy how it interplays with Megumi and her deal with realizing possible issues she has with higher modeling aspirations but Rin is entering tenth grade and Kai is the ahead of someone entering twelfth grade making this a senior and sophomore relationship which doesn't vibe with me due to the differences in maturity.

The author dives deeper into the characters Rin and Len Ani, twins, but are complete opposites in their personalities.

We also get to see Yamato being vulnerable, as he feels the pressure of trying to figure out whether he is cut out to be a photographer for a career or something else.

Mei is also coming out of her shell more, and you can see her transition into a mentor with her interactions with others, having gone through the world alone for most of her life closed off to others.

This book also touches on cyber bullying, especially how the world of gaming is often a safe haven for people to hide in. You can play online and not meet people in person. But once you do, things can change.

Lols.

Really enjoy the way everyone seems to grow and settle into themselves and become more adult, as they all prepare to graduate. I look forward to seeing how to story progresses as everyone enters adulthood.

Yup done! Not gonna borrow anymore from the library. Most characters are kind of just blah... Or cruel. I don't see any actual joy in this series. Just isn't for me.

~3.5/5

As they get closer to graduating, the group has to figure out what they want to do with their lives. Mei is contemplating being a teacher, and volunteers at a day care. This is surprising, but oddly fitting, it seems. Being such an outsider growing up, Mei can relate well to kids, though.

Yamato, surprisingly enough, is having a harder time figuring himself out. He’s learning to enjoy photography, but it’s just off to him. Meeting a model photographer gives him a new insight and perspective into his likes.

Meanwhile, Rin is pursuing Kai pretty heavily. This is sweet, but it’s obvious that there’s something more going on between him and Megumi, and this is making him less ready to look elsewhere. At the same time, Len is forming a friendship with Mei, and I think they work well as friends, understanding each other the way they do.

Everyone is moving forward in some way. I’m still quite enjoying this.

Ren/Len has gotten Mei and Asami a chance to volunteer at the Preschool that his little sister attends. Mei is starting to consider a career centered around children, so that she can come out of her shell.

Yamato is still unsure about his photography skills, so Mei has Megumi arrange him an appointment with a professional photographer - both to assess his skills and to give him direction. This ends up going pretty well, and Yamato decides to continue persuing photography.

Also, Ren/Len finally meets up with his gaming "friends". This does not go very well. They are all extremely jealous, and are just pretending to like him, because he is #1 score on all the hottest online games. After the meeting, his so-called "friend" tells him he hates him, which leads Ren/Len to quit gaming altogether.
