Trade operations begin… An old benefactor is found… New enemies reveal themselves… Old enemies thought long dead return…
The Korsan Empire is on its last legs, but to finish them, Nathan Scott must cross one ethical line in order to avoid crossing another. It seems there are enemies everywhere, and some of them are hidden in unexpected places.
"Enemies of my Enemy" is the 10th episode in Part 3 of the Frontiers Fringe Worlds.
Born in 1960 and raised on an overdose of television, NASA, and science fiction, Ryk Brown has worked as a cook, rock guitarist, stage lighting technician, and paramedic. He currently resides in Northern California with his wife, daughter, and cat. By day he fixes computers, and by night he creates stories. Having spent his entire life "thinking stuff up", the advent of digital publishing has finally given him an excuse to write it all down and share it with others. ("Others" meaning someone other than his poor wife and daughter.) A long-time fan of all things science and space, his goal is to write and publish an on-going series of sci-fi adventures. To be set in his own version of humanity's future, his characters will explore the vast reaches of the galaxy, and perhaps even the universe. He invites you all to join him on this journey through his vivid imagination.
I just finished “Enemies of My Enemies” by Ryk Brown, and I've been a devoted fan since his first book. While I found the opening a bit abrupt—almost like jumping into the middle of a conversation—it was still an excellent story overall. Brown's books are fast-paced, requiring your full attention; otherwise, you might miss important details. Across the series, the major characters are well-developed and feel like old friends, which I love. He keeps things fresh by introducing new characters every book or so, ensuring readers stay engaged. Brown has truly established himself as a masterful storyteller, and I can’t wait for the next installment.
I listened to this as an audiobook via Audible, which has a runtime of seven hours and twelve minutes. The narration by Jeffrey Kafer was outstanding, and he continues to bring the series to life brilliantly.
In "Enemies of My Enemy," writer Ryk Brown returns to the fringes of outer space and the adventures of the warship Aurora and its crew under the amiable Captain Nathan Scott. This is the 10th novel in a series now in its third sequence. Brown introduces some new characters (and reintroduces an older one) but the novel's mainly the continuation of the saga that involves Capt. Scott trying to establish a society in which freedom and safety are held above all else. There's incremental advances and a really intense concept that gets to the heart of exactly what humanity is. I won't elaborate, but it's intense and still has my brain doing the twisties. The culmination of the tale involves a really nasty character who has made previous appearances. The crew of the Aurora also find a few allies and make progress on their many projects. And Brown, as he likes to do, gets a little sentimental with his characters and how they appear and interact. For a longtime reader, this is great. The only unfortunate part was that I finished the entire novel in just two days. I like to drag this out longer usually, but not this time. I wish I had the next book to crack open.
First of all what I liked, the book was fast paced no slow portions of the book. No characters internalizing about what they should’ve should not do. The families back together again, and how I missed this last piece of the family, no spoilers. If you are a reader of the entire series, you loved the inclusion of this last family member. If you have not read this series, go back to book one and start at the beginning, think how much bins reading you can get done. And like families, some people will get on your nerves, but I must say this book was one of the best in the series. Not a lot of action but great character development. I read a lot of books, in fact, so many Amazon has banned me. Don’t let this series slip by you. Very enjoyable excellent. now I got eagerly wait the next book in the series.
oh man! that was good! unexpected but good. One thing, and idk why this is but, this book seems shorter than most of its predecessors but could just be my perception. The storyline is really kind of “out there” but in this group’s life of chaos idk that the phrase is even a true indicator of just how crazy and weird their adventures can be. Anyway, this one is no different, especially the ending, which totally caught me off guard. I truly love this series. It is by far my favorite of all those in my repertoire. The characters feel like family and I love the realness, the genuineness of their characters and their interpersonal relationships, interactions and bylines. Mr Brown is truly a gifted storyteller and entertainer.
The series, which I surely love, has basically been repeating earlier story lines. Yes, we have fast-forward centuries, but time has only changed the names of our villains. Our established leaders always end up corrupt. It would not be human otherwise. Speaking of humans... the cloning has killed our humanity. I wonder how this will continue to roll out. At the very least, it has destroyed the heroic factor. Brown keeps eluding to jumps and other galaxies. My belief is we gonna jump into somebody's backyard, and that will unite all humans for a bigger cause, which we will never achieve otherwise.
The morning after the battle before and all is well. Kind of. The Korsan are still a force to be reckoned with, even if that force is a lot smaller and the Free Fleets decide to at last do something about it Other threads to the story come about. Trade within the galaxy becomes more widespread and an old character appears and almost seems to take over, in a very few chapters, but with everyone's blessing It's clever and it's more than just warfare. It's becoming a lot more about what the free fleet will be and how they will maintain their independence and it all the better for that
Another great chapter in the Frontier Saga. Glad to see one of the original characters return. Great cliff hanger to set the next chapters.
Only complaint that there is a lot of different characters, locations and planets now. Hard to keep track of that information. Who is who, where they are from, what they do and there relationship to the Free Fleet.
One question what's happening on or to Earth in the 41st century?
I love how the world is being built. The first part of this series did not make sense but it's all pulling together perfectly. Nathan is pulling his team back together from 100 years ago and rebuilding society from the ground up. The only problem is late night. You will not be able to put it down and be tired the next morning!
Excellent continuation of this story line. We see another character returned through bio-synth, the battle platforms start getting their upgrades, Loki gets a surprise, and they undergo an undercover mission in the Korsan headquarters. Lots of action and a cliff hanging ending.
The story continues and introduces previous characters. The Free Fleet continues to grow and the story crept along. Unfortunately, the author set up an action against the Korson and the story went to high speed for a quick ending. It left me very disappointed and felt the last chapter a waste so the author could tie up a looose end.
This series just gets better. Characters and plot has that comfortable familiar feeling but always some original and interesting twist. This book checks all the boxes and then some. Amazing how Brown is able to not only keep it going but make each book better with some new tech or subplot.
You can't put it down. It consumes you while you're consuming it, and I always want more when I am done. If you haven't started, you have a lot of catching up to do... well, get to it!
I have been reading this series for a long time and look forward to each new adventure. The author has a great way of making you feel close to the characters. The stories just flow into each other.
These series I am always so excited to read snd I finish quickly as its so captivating. Thank you Ryk for continuing on just when we think you cant possibly have more to write you com up with more!
Series. BUT... To get the full effect go back to volume one and read it all. I have excited my read each one. Spell binding and truly inspired work. One of the best I've ever read.
I have to say I wasn't expecting to be blown away by this book 10, but I can say this was a great book that I couldn't put down. So many new twists and turns. Awesome
This one just wasn’t up to par. These seem to be getting shorter and shorter. I get it that the author is putting out books me frequently although I would pay much more for a longer book
These books had begun to become monotonous and predictable. Yet, I still sucked them up and giving four stars. This was unpredictable and that made it a five star read!
Fyi Brown's stories never fail to grab you and hold on! I have read from Aurora's first voyage, and I will continue to read as long as he keeps writing them!
