In the quiet town of Eatonville, for a woman named Micah life could not have been more perfect. Blessed with radiant beauty, boundless kindness, and a deep love for her husband and unborn child, she embodied the epitome of happiness. But on one fateful night, tragedy strikes as Micah dies during childbirth, leaving her loved ones devastated.
Yet, Micahs’s story does not end there.
In the depths of grief, an ancient and malevolent spirit, banished from salvation, seizes the opportunity to find a new vessel for its wicked existence. Sensing vulnerability, it chooses Micah’s lifeless body as a conduit for its dark ambitions, forever altering the course of fate.
Cloaked in Micah’s innocent face, the spirit wreaks havoc, sowing seeds of discord and malice in the lives of those closest to her, despairing the lingering love that should have healed their broken hearts.
Caught in a web of deception and supernatural malevolence, Micah’s husband Reshad must unravel the truth behind the increasingly sinister events. With his own sanity and life at stake, they tread cautiously, unsure of who he can trust. Time is running out, and truths darker than he could have imagined will come to light, testing his faith in humanity and the strength of his affection for Micah.
Body Snatcher is a gripping and spine-chilling tale that explores the boundaries between life and death, love and betrayal, and the resilience of the human spirit. Will Micah’s Husband uncover the truth behind the evil within, or will he succumb to the darkness that now resides within her fractured soul?
“Body Snatcher” by A.L. Whyte is a short and straight-to-the-point horror novella that does a solid job delivering a unique demonic experience. This is just 20 pages but let me tell you, it packs a punch and leaves a mark on you once you’re finished.
Now, before I begin my review, I found just one trigger warning while reading which was the following…
- Homophobic slur
If this triggers you, please do not read this book. Moving along, this was the first time I’ve ever read Whyte and his style of writing is of high quality. Granted, it is a very small sample size but I thought he did a great job getting right into the story and keeping me hooked from beginning to end. I loved the intro to set the tone of the book as it was pretty intense and worked very well to hit me with a brutal shock at first.
Once it happened, I was even more excited since demonic horror, when done right, is a whole lot of fun to read. I did not see that coming and loved every moment after because things got weird, creepy, and disturbing. That’s the gist of this book as it was a fun, quick, devilish kind of ride. Don’t worry, I won’t spoil anything for you but this was an awesome novella for the most part.
I loved the pacing of “Body Snatcher” and how creepy it was. This is one of the shortest horror books I’ve ever read in my life and I enjoyed it. I consider this perfect for a day off at home or a weekend read in a café. It has some nice plot twists but the only thing I didn’t like was that I was able to predict a big one towards the end.
It was something I saw coming a mile away but besides that, this was still a good time. When it comes to the ending, it was decent but feels like more could potentially be on the horizon, which is a good thing. I hope Whyte continues this story or considers writing more demonic horror in the future. I’d also love to see a fully fleshed-out novel to continue this story, especially since this could be considered a prequel to hopefully, bigger and even crazier events ahead.
I give “Body Snatcher” by A.L. Whyte a 4/5 for being one of those super-quick reads that delivered some astounding demonic horror. It was effective for the most part and even though one big plot twist was too predictable for me, I will remember this book for being a memorable one. I hope Whyte either continues this or keeps writing more in this ever-popular demonic subgenre of horror. He’s an author to keep an eye on and I look forward to what he has planned in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author A.L. Whyte for providing me with an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) for review consideration. This horror book review reflects my honest, personal opinion.
The Body Snatcher Roams Hospital Halls Like a Roaring Lion Seeking a Body to Inhabit...
BODY SNATCHER by A.L.Whyte
Some SPOILERS ahead, so read at your peril. 3 stars.
Rashad and his wife Micah arrived at the hospital to deliver their much anticipated baby...
While giving birth...
Micah died but miraculously came back to life. But immediately after her near-death experience...
She was different...
She was distant and cold. When the couple arrived back home with their baby, their dog growled and barked at Micah...
Then...
Little by little, Micah began to turn ashy and blue. She smelled bad and showed signs of deterioration and rot...
It seems...
Micah had really passed that night at the hospital, and a demon called a Body Snatcher happened to be roaming the hospital halls like a prowling lion...
Seeking a body to inhabit...
... and it had entered Micah's dead carcass at her exact time of death...
I rate this story 3 stars. Being only 20 pages long, it is very difficult to present a story with enough character and plot development. If this story was presented as part of a collection, its brevity would have been more acceptable.
I also want to point out that it was loaded with grammatical errors.
“He had always known Micah to be a strong and independent woman, but this was different. This was a darkness that had never been there before, a darkness born out of fear and pain.”
A.L.Whyte’s Body Snatchers is a very short, quick and easy to read horror novelette -15 pages. Without ruining too much for any potential reader as it is such a short story it asks What happens when we die and are revived? Is it really our soul returning to our body or can it be stolen by other entities? Is Rashad able to save his wife or will he have to pick between his wife or his daughter? The cliff hanger ending is pretty good but I felt like the story could have been expanded on and felt a bit rushed.
Body Snatcher takes readers on an intense and chilling journey through the thin veil that separates life and death. The story begins in the picturesque town of Eatonville, where Micah's seemingly idyllic life takes a tragic turn. The story skillfully explores the supernatural as an ancient malevolent spirit seizes the opportunity to inhabit Micah's lifeless body, setting off a series of events that test the limits of love and humanity. Reshad, Micah's grieving husband, becomes the central figure in a race against time and the forces of darkness. As the suspense builds, readers will find themselves immersed in a gripping tale that challenges perceptions of life and death.
Buckle up, horror lovers! Body Snatcher is a wild ride through the supernatural rollercoaster you never knew you needed! Picture this: Micah, the town's golden girl, kicks the bucket during childbirth. Tragedy, right? But hold your horses, because that's just the beginning. We're talking about an ancient spirit with a serious grudge against salvation, and guess what? Micah's lifeless bod becomes its VIP vessel. Cue the chaos, deception, and all-around spookiness that'll make your head spin faster than a haunted carousel. Reshad, poor dude, has to play detective to untangle this supernatural mess, questioning everyone's sanity, trust, and maybe even his own. It's a race against time, folks, and the truth behind the evil within Micah's soul is darker than your ex's secrets. Body Snatcher is not your typical horror flick; it's a heart-pounding, spine-tingling adventure that'll make you rethink what's really lurking in the shadows. So, grab your popcorn and flashlight – you're in for a wickedly good time!
A super short, fast-paced horror novella about demonic possession. I feel that the story was written effectively and packed a punch for 20 pages in length however personally I found the dialogue to be somewhat comical at times especially with all the capitals (e.g. “OH HELL NAWWWW” .. but that’s just me!)
I actually didn’t expect the ending so that was great and Aunt Sheree is definitely my fave character in this book with her strong, independent woman witchy vibes.
