This Is For Jazz: A story of love, betrayal, and violent revenge

Rate this book
CONTENT This book contains scenes depicting extreme violence.

The things people will do for the ones they love is an admirable quality, but when the person you love the most has been wronged in the worst of ways, it’s sometimes shocking to see the lengths someone will go to in order to attempt to right those wrongs.

High school should be about living life to the fullest—making friends, having relationships, and attending parties. This is the norm for Connor and Jazz, an upperclassmen couple at Larson High School in west Tennessee. The two of them were the happiest of couples until recent events shattered their world and turned them down a dark path.

When it became clear that local law enforcement wasn’t going to do anything to punish those responsible for what happened, the two vengeful teenagers decide to take matters into their own hands. Along their journey, the murderous couple uncover shocking details that reveal why Jazz became the target of such a heinous and unforgivable crime.

There's a lot going on here ... It's a revenge story ultimately, but it also deals with friends, family love, and loss .... I loved the alternative ending, but I'm not sure which ending I prefer, but overall, a fab debut from the author!

Wow, this is a book that will stick with me for a very long time. It was dark, tragic and heartbreaking, but also a perfect tale of vengeance, justice, love and healing. I literally couldn't put this down, and devoured it.
It follows the pov of Connor, and the revenge mission he and Jazz have planned. Each chapter dives deeper into the events that scarred Jazz, and led to the deadly actions happening in present day. The further they dig the more tragic truths they uncover, and it leads to a devastating conspiracy.
It's a haunting journey where you can't help but root for Connor and Jazz, even with the violent acts they commit. It feels completely justified, and shows how lines can be easily blurred.
It's revenge at its darkest, but it's also a chance for Jazz to heal, and to right the wrongs the town tried to bury.
It shows that everyone is capable of darkness, and the lengths people will go to to protect their loved ones, even to hide crimes and ruin reputations.
At its heart despite the brutality, it's also a very powerful love story, and shows the connection people can have and how they will burn the world for each other.
I also loved the alternative endings, as both felt like a fitting resolution despite the tragedy.

A high school love couple takes matters into their own hands after one of them becomes the victim of a horrific act of betrayal caused by people they loved and trusted. The event gets covered up by the local police and now they’re out for revenge.

This is for Jazz is a merciless and emotionally intense thriller full of betrayal, vengeance and violence and it hit me hard. It’s not a light read, it’s raw and brutal and not for the faint of heart. The main characters are well build and I could easily empathize with them and why they’re out for retaliation. The story grabbed me from the get go and if I had more time I’m sure I would’ve read it in one sitting. It’s very immersive and I don’t think I can ever listen to Have you ever seen the rain by CCR again without thinking of this book.

This is for Jazz reminds me of movies like I spit on your grave and Natural born Killers in terms of violence. So if you’re in for an action packed character driven story where love and foul play collide this one’s for you!

Zach Graham was so kind to send a signed paperback all the way from the USA to the Netherlands and I’m more than grateful for it. Thank you so much Zach, I’ll definitely keep an eye out for your future work. 👀🖤

I really like the writing style and flow of this one. It was able to pull me in from the very start. The story was fantastic, lots of tension building with every vengeance scene. The gore was top notch too! Graphic without overdoing it, adding to the intensity and making the revenge element really hit hard.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Brutal, Beautiful, and Unforgettable

This Is For Jazz by Zach Graham is a gut-punch from the first page to the last. A raw, unflinching story of love, betrayal, and violent revenge, it grabs you by the throat and refuses to let go. What was done to Jazz is beyond unforgivable, and watching those boys get exactly what they deserved was both satisfying and harrowing.

I especially loved the alternate endings, I still can’t decide which one I prefer, because each hits in a completely different, equally devastating way. The terror of this book lies in its realism; it reads almost like someone’s personal journal, where thoughts spill out first and details are filled in later. The fragmented narration made it all the more authentic, like you’re inside someone’s head during the most unhinged and emotional moments of their life.

The extreme violence isn’t for the faint of heart, but it’s not mindless… every act is fueled by deep, consuming emotion, and the love story woven through the carnage is as haunting as it is beautiful.

Thank you Zach Graham for sending me your book, I will definitely treasure this one.

Is it horror? No. But it’s something far more visceral, an epic tale of female rage, betrayal, and revenge that grips you from the first page and refuses to let go. Graham doesn’t shy away from graphic detail or emotional brutality; instead, he dives headfirst into the darkest corners of human pain and justice. This book is not for the faint of heart. The violence is unflinching, the emotions raw, and the protagonist’s pursuit of her own twisted form of justice both horrifying and deeply cathartic. Every page pulses with fury and heartbreak, asking readers uncomfortable questions about what vengeance costs , and whether it’s ever enough.Check your triggers at the door, because this novel doesn’t just show a savage crime; it makes you feel every ounce of its aftermath. It’s a story for those willing to confront the darkest parts of their mind and still find beauty in the chaos. Disturbing? Absolutely. Deserved? Undeniably. This Is for Jazz is a haunting triumph in modern fiction

Summary: Justice failed. So they became the consequence.

Review: This story grabbed me by the throat from page one and never let go. It’s a disturbing, intense revenge horror that left me both horrified and heartbroken. What happens to Jazz is brutal and raw - but the fierce, unwavering love Connor shows in the aftermath is almost hauntingly beautiful.

This book is going to hit hard for horror fans- whether you love extreme horror, revenge arcs dripping in blood, or twisted love stories that blur the line between devotion and destruction. The violence is grisly, the emotion is real, and the ending felt like the only ending this story could have. I was locked in the entire time.

Gruesome. Emotional. Unforgettable.
Everything horror should be.

So tell me… will you be reading this one?

This is for Jazz is a story that cuts deep. Horrific actions are met with gruesome revenge. Very descriptive, well written, making this an emotional journey for the reader.

It takes the ‘friend that will bury the body’ to a whole new level! Friendship, family and relationships are well depicted giving a well rounded story.

The unique ending(s) is clever and allows the reader to feel like they have a say in how things turn out.

Thank you to the author for a gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

Jazz was beaten and raped by a group of boys at a party and left for dead in the woods. But thanks to her resilience, she survives. It seems that this was premeditated, but for what purpose and why was justice not served to those who deserved it? With her boyfriend Connors help, the couple seek out painful revenge on everyone from that night and are also on the hunt for answers.

~MY THOUGHTS~

We are dropped right in the middle of the action from the very first chapter. Both of our MCs are angry and committed to their act of revenge. Their plan is simple: Kill all who were involved with what happened to Jazz after interrogating them. Pretty ruthless for two teenagers in high school I must say!

There is a lot of violence and torture as the couple makes their way through their the story. The developments learned along the way shock them and me as well as the truth unfolds and all of this happens in a single day!! There is so much deceit, secrecy, unknowns and backstabbing on top of the actual horrible violation that happened to Jazz. I was definitely invested to learn the details from beginning to end.

The dialogue is abundant. There is a llllottttt of it, but I do like that this is very much a character driven story.

Ahh the evil and insane things somebody will go through to get what they want…. teenagers be craaaazzyyy.

I really enjoyed this book and it’s such a deep love story but such an awesome revenge story as well. Take no prisoners and show no mercy. There is also an alternate ending so you get to decide which ending you like more. Thank you to the author Zach Graham for sending me a copy of this debut novel! Definitely recommend.

Thank you Zachary Graham for sending me a copy of this!

Jasmine was viciously attacked, raped, and left for dead. The trauma and wounds she experienced cannot be fathomed, and to add insult to injury, the local police refused to help her, even going as far as to blame and dismiss her. But Jazz and her boyfriend have a plan. They need revenge, and they will stop at nothing.

This was such a satisfying read in many ways, and the topic is just so… timely. Time and time again we hear of these stories, and because of some lame reason, the perpetrators get off with a slap on the wrist. It’s infuriating and unfair, but then again, life is unfair. I remember following this case of a girl who pretty much went through the same thing, but in the end, her trauma won that battle. And the guys? Probably still out there living their lives. Heads up though this book does contain a lot of gory details so mind your trigger warnings.

The relationship between Jazz and Connor felt very mature, not at all like 17 year olds. But then again, going through trauma can definitely change a person. As satisfying as it was to read this, it does make me sad that reality is usually not like this. With all the injustices in the world, I feel like this book has an oddly calming effect on me. Fiction, yes, but it kind of scratched that itch for revenge. I really enjoyed the ending and the alternate ending. It’s an interesting touch for sure!

This was wild, grotesque, and a great read for the spooky season. Filled with gory violence and a passionate love story, this was so easy to throw back in one sitting. The writing is so accessible. I read this within a few hours and had an enjoyable time with it. All told through the perspective of Connor Slade, who is madly in love with Jazz, we get the first hand experience of brutal murder against those who wronged the one Connor loves most. It was deranged! The only gripes I have were that there were many times where I felt the writing was telling more than showing. Let me feel the passion between the characters by their actions and words, not the commentary. And while I liked the idea of the alternate ending, both were very interesting, it would’ve been more impactful if the author chose one over the other. I think having the alternate ending took away the impact of the original ending. With a little bit of editing and cleanup, this would’ve made for a five star horror for me, but I still recommend to those who love a good brutal revenge story. Thank you to the author for a physical copy in exchange for an honest review 👏🏽

You know I love a good revenge story. And this is one of them. Sometimes in life things happen to you or other people and you’re like “If I could just….you know” hahah Well this book is the “you know.”

You follow Jazz and Conner in the aftermath of an horrific event that happens to Jazz. This book does come heavy with the graphic scenes. And plenty of warning comes before you read. Just know the author does not ease into the graphic parts. He comes in heavy earlier on.

If you’re looking for a book you can read that shows how far someone would go for love or revenge then definitely check this out. It’s on Kindle Unlimited also for anyone with that.

Great job Zach, please continue on your author journey and thank you for letting me experience your work!

3.5 ⭐️

Love can be violent. This one’s heavy. A tale of revenge and betrayal, love and brutality.

Jazz and Connor are a happy couple at Larson High until the unthinkable happens. An act of violence uproots their lives, and when law enforcement fails to deliver justice, they decide to take matters into their own hands.

I love when heavy subjects are handled with grit and realism, and this story immediately hits you with both. It never lets up. It feels like voyeurism. Like you’re being forced to bear witness to Jazz and Connor’s descent into darkness.

At first, the violence almost feels justified. It’s cathartic until it isn’t. You start pleading with them to stop, to think, to realize that vengeance won’t change what’s already happened. But of course, the reader can’t change the outcome of this tragedy.

The structure is effective. It drops you straight into the chaos, revealing context through interrogation and violent scenes. The pacing is strong, keeping in step with the full throttle brutality.

Most of the story unfolds through dialogue, which works in some ways but can also feel disorienting. The dialogue itself is flat; every character sounds the same, which sometimes pulled me out of the moment. That clinical tone was especially hard to believe given that these characters are teenagers. The biggest hurdle for me, though, was the writing style. The third-person objective POV kept me at arm’s length when I wanted to be inside the storm.

The story itself shines, though. It’s raw, unrelenting, and worth discussing. Be sure to check your content warnings before diving in. I’m interested in reading more work from this author.

Thank you to Zach Graham for the gifted copy — all opinions are my own.

This is for Jazz by Zach Graham is about Connor and Jazz, a couple who decide to take matters into their own hands when Jazz is the victim of an unspeakable crime and justice fails her.

It’s a bold debut from Graham. 👏
An intense story about love, betrayal, violence, and revenge that really doesn’t hold back on graphic violence, (so definitely a trigger warning for readers sensitive to that).
A passionate first book from the author, and it shows the promise of more powerful stories to come.

First I want to thank Zach for sending me a copy of his book!! Talk about a book jammed packed with revenge!! This book was dark, tragic, so heartbreaking. Talk about betrayal holy cow I was not expecting the twist!! This story was told by Connor’s point of view and how he went about getting revenge for the love of his life. Jazz and Connor were brave to take a stand for something they knew would never have any justice. I would recommend this book but please know that this book has violent/ gruesome parts and is based around rape/ murder so check your triggers. Zach I will definitely be looking for more of your books in the future!!

While this is not a genre I normally appreciate, this book is full of gore and revenge. If that's what you are interested in, this book is perfect for you. It's a good high school love story that takes hold and makes you want to know how it's going to end and what comes for Jazz and Connor.

Wow, this grabbed me from the beginning. It's about love, being betrayed, and being violently hurt by those you thought you could trust. Next comes the revenge for what happened to Jazz. This has violent scenes involving rape and murder. I loved the alternate ending. Both endings were good!

In highschool things are already hard - but Jazz actually had to fight for her life. After a night out at a party, Jazz is beaten, raped, and left for dead. But she survives and when she tries to get justice - the incident is covered up.
Now we follow Jazz and her boyfriend Connor who are hunting down the group of boys to exact revenge but find out there was so much more to the story.
“My plan was to bring her the justice she very much deserved all in one day-this day!”

Zach was lovely enough to send me a signed copy of this novel for my honest review. For me, I wish there was more focus on the feelings of the characters. A little more raw emotion instead of dialogue. It was more methodical than emotional. Story was killer though! I fully enjoyed reading.

Jasmine and Connor are a couple. After jasmine experiences some extreme trauma, Connor is out for blood as his revenge. Jasmine wants in. Along the way they find out some really heart wrenching details that they don’t want to believe but unfortunately is the case. How will this end? Will they shed the blood of their abusers and come out the other end? Will they survive?

This whole story had such promise and don’t get me wrong it was one hell of a read! I did enjoy it a lot. But there’s things in this that have really ground my gears. First off is the alternate ending. Which one is the actual ending? Not being aware there was going to be 2 endings I was not impressed with this as now I feel like I don’t actually know the ending? This may be some people’s vibe but definitely not mine. Second is the one that set me off the most. Throughout the whole thing there is little brackets with extra info in so when saying he or she the author would put in brackets who they were talking about and can’t lie it really made me feel like an idiot. It took me out the book world I was in. Not the sort of thing I like! I feel this whole book would be much better without those. Aside from those 2 things it was an extraordinary read. Featuring betrayal, loss of trust and rage was definitely my sort of thing. Not one I can personally recommend but one I did enjoy mostly aside from the little things mentioned

Thank you Zach for sending me a copy of the book!

I really enjoyed this story. It was dark, brutal and filled with revenge. What I particularly enjoyed was how you could feel the emotions of connor (the male main character) as he guided us through the story, you could feel his anger and it's that emotion that kept you reading. Making you eager to find out what caused him (and Jazz) to go and seek revenge.

The author also included an alternative ending. I can't actually decide which of the endings I enjoyed more. Both of them had their merits and left you with a different kind of satisfaction. It was very interesting to see two ways Connor and Jazz's story could have ended.

Whilst I did enjoy the story, I have a minor critique with the writing. There were some moments that leaned heavily on the dialogue and whilst during these scenes there tended to be a lot of emotions going on, I feel like a few descriptive breaks would have balanced it out a little bit more and added a touch more depth to the scene.

If you enjoy tales of revenge that are filled with violence then this book is the one for you!

Love it

This book is heavy on revenge stuff, showing how far people will go for payback and what happens afterward.

The author tells a gripping story about love, loss, and getting even. Connor and Jazz aren't your typical high school couple. As they deal with teenage life, their relationship gets tested in really tough ways.

The story is intense and keeps you hooked, making you feel like you're right there with them. It's a world where it's hard to tell what's right and wrong. Connor and Jazz face some pretty messed-up situations as they try to find closure.

What makes this book special is how it dives deep into why people do what they do. The characters are complicated and deal with tough choices that make you think. The writing paints a clear picture of small-town life overshadowed by violence.

It's not an easy read, but if you're into thrillers that mess with your head, this one's for you. Get ready for a wild ride with Connor and Jazz as they dive into some seriously dark stuff.

Love, Betrayal, & Revenge

OMG Besties... buckle up because "This Is For Jazz" is not your typical high school love story—it’s dark, brutal, and heartbreakingly raw. Told entirely through Connor’s POV, we watch this sweet, in-love teen spiral into something savage when the world fails the girl he loves most. Jazz isn’t just a victim; she’s the fire that fuels every violent, desperate act Connor commits. What starts as young love quickly turns into a crime-fueled descent into vengeance, secrets, and blood-soaked loyalty. The corruption of innocence trope hits hard, and by the time the revelation twist drops, I was clutching my book like—no way did that just happen. It’s equal parts gut-wrenching and addictive.
If you love stories that explore the ugly side of love and revenge, this one’s going to haunt you. Oh, and that alternate ending given... loved it.

Zach's debut release is extremely dark and deep. The length one will go for the love of their life truly has no limits in this book. The brutal detail is dark and not for the faint of heart. This is primarily told from Connors point of view and you can feel his rage and desire for revenge. The alternative ending was fantastic. I can't tell you which one I like more they both were perfect and provided a satisfying end either which way!. I will be following this author. I have no doubt he will provide some more awesome books in the future.
4 stars because: There are areas that seem wordy and over explained. It could have been broken up into more chapters and much of the chatter could be more internal thoughts. The chapters are longer than I personally like but I would still recommend This Is For Jazz to the right crowd.

The premise of this book was really interesting and the story itself was engaging, but the writing had some distracting quirks, like unnecessary parentheses ALL over the place. Examples below.

“I parked there because the dense brush (undergrowth, small trees, and shrubs) that stood like a wall between the road and the abandoned field is tall enough to hide my car (out of view from the road) if someone happened to drive by.”

“"Nothing you're probably into," I said with a light chuckle. "The usual stuff is there, though. You can look through the (CD) binder and pick something out.”

“"Baby," Jazz said to me, putting her hand on my cheek,
"I don't care about what's on that (audio) tape. There's nothing you can say or do right now that would ever change the way I feel about you, and how much I love you.”

A twisted revenge story dished out by a murderous version of Romeo and Juliet.
A group of men aggressively assault Jazz, and it is time for retribution. We follow as Connor, Jazz’s boyfriend enacts a revenge plan on the men who have hurt Jazz… putting it lightly.

This revenge plan is gorryyy, in the best way. I was cheering as these monsters got what they deserved. My only critique is that I really wish Jazz was involved more with the process of doing the actual killings. There are two endings that Zach has put in to the story and I realllllly prefer the second ending.

The story is very straight forward and this will be an easy read if you’re looking for a quick, disturbing book to add to your list

Jazz isn’t just about love, it’s about the rot beneath it. These stories whisper like a saxophone in a dark alley, but the notes are sharp, jagged, and dripping with dread. Zach Graham lures you in with tenderness, then guts you with truth. Behind every relationship is a quiet violence, a haunting, a slow unraveling that feels like possession.

These aren’t just breakups and friendships, they’re bloodlettings. No one walks away clean.

An action-packed story of revenge, where the main characters are able to do things most can only wish to do to the story's assailants. Connor Slade, the book's main character, is the protagonist in a world full of antagonists. The circumstances Connor and Jazz (the love of Connor's life) are forced to deal with lead them into a world and mindset where the lines between right and wrong/moral and immoral are very blurred.

Having said that, it's clear who the bad guys are, and you can't help but root for the damaged, but very likeable main characters. The true love Connor and Jazz have for one another shows the lengths someone may (or at least want to) go to in order to protect the ones they love the most. Although their story is violent and brutal, their love for one another shines bright, even through the brutality of it all.
