Mercury Poisoning: The Undiagnosed Epidemic

Rate this book
Lupus, rheumatic fever, colitis, arthritis, dermatitis, insomnia, depression, hallucinations – what do all these illnesses have in common?

They were all experienced by a 12-year-old girl in a case study in an American journal of child psychiatry. The cause? – mercury vapor she inhaled from mercury that had been spilled on the carpet in the room she slept in. After removing the carpet and treatment with chelation drugs, the girl returned to good health.

Mercury poisoning can cause a variety of illnesses such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, ADHD, bipolar disorder, sinusitis, tinnitus, balance problems, tremor, insomnia, inflammatory bowel disease, dermatitis, excessive thirst, salivation and a host of other symptoms.

Is mercury from dental amalgams affecting your health? Dental associations claim the mercury in fillings is perfectly safe, but the mercury inhaled from “silver” fillings is 15 times more toxic than lead.

The World Health Organization report states that people with amalgams have a daily mercury intake of 4 to 21 micrograms of mercury per day. For many people this exceeds the Environmental Protection Agencies limit of just 7 micrograms per day.

Yet there are no Government warnings about this exposure.

Those who grind their teeth or chew gum will have even higher exposure. If you eat 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of tuna, that adds another 35 micrograms.

Even if your mercury blood level is within the so-called “normal” range, if you don’t excrete mercury efficiently it can build up in your brain, liver, kidney, thyroid and other organs over years of continuous exposure.

The effects of prolonged exposure to mercury can be delayed for years, making it difficult to determine the cause of your illness.

Diseases such as chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia affect millions of people around the world. Doctors say the causes of these illnesses are unknown and there is no cure. This book provides cases histories of many diseases which were caused by mercury and subsequently cured using chelation therapy.

It also takes you step by step through the process of safely chelating heavy metals from your body.

I receive this book as a Goodreads giveaway.

This book was a real eye opener. I had no idea those old fillings in my mouth could potentially be the source of so many illnesses.

The book is well written and easy to read. It's well organized and sourced.

Book Review: Mercury Poisoning: The Undiagnosed Epidemic by David Hammond: An Eye Opener

There are case studies based on historical realities and there are scientific reports on this altogether different metal called Mercury that stays in liquid form on room temperature. The hazards it can cause are much more severe and serious than one can imagine and anticipate. David Hammond, in his book Mercury Poisoning: The Undiagnosed Epidemic has done a phenomenal job by enlightening the hidden facts about Mercury which by large are unknown to masses. The book explains the various symptoms caused by hazardous Mercury on health with their side effects and the treatments required to overcome these impacts.

How many of us know that one of the constituents of vaccines is thimerosal which substantially contains mercury. As mentioned in the book Mercury Poisoning: The Undiagnosed Epidemic by David Hammond , Mercury is one of the major factor for causing and increasing autism. But probably there is no alternative for vaccines and hence it cannot be avoided. That is why in such cases David has created the awareness and has left the choice open since there is logically no reason in telling to avoid vaccines. Similarly in case of dental amalgams, there also we have a considerable amount of mercury though there are certain agencies like the American Dental Association that claims it not to carry any volume of mercury. But since here there is a choice to avoid dental amalgams, David clearly prefers readers to go for the alternative for dental fillings.

Overall Mercury Poisoning: The Undiagnosed Epidemic by David Hammond is an interesting and enlightening read for all to learn a lot that is factual but is not known to us.

Interesting read on metal poisoning and how to address it

Go low and slow and careful main advice with a detailed chelation protocol. Tons of information on different metals, chemicals and hormones relate and how to recognize, diagnose and treat heavy metal toxicity.

Mercury. The only elemental metal currently known that is liquid at room temperature. And, as becoming more and more evident, a much bigger health risk than anyone originally could have guessed. David Hammond takes on the hazards of this substance – symptoms, side-effects, and potential treatments / avoidance – in his book “Mercury Poisoning: The Undiagnosed Epidemic”.

I appreciated Mr. Hammond's care in not demanding the reader take a certain stand when either option contains a health risk. For example, while vaccines may contain thimerosal, which contains mercury, and while mercury appears to a factor in the increase of autism, there is no alternate prevention of certain diseases. As such, the author presents his case, and allows the reader to make their own choice. On the other hand, Mr. Hammond makes a clear case that dental amalgams are also a problematic source of mercury, despite the American Dental Association's claims to the contrary. Here, there IS an acceptable alternative to use for fillings, and he encourages the reader to pursue it.

Mr. Hammond successfully walks a fine line between case histories and scientific studies. Case histories are certainly more interesting to read and contain factual information, but could be one-offs tied to an individual’s environment, genetic make-up, or other factors. On the other hand, scientific studies are designed to minimize, eliminate, and/or explain other influences – but are usually quite dry and downright boring to the casual reader. He does fall into the trap of pointing out flaws he sees in studies that disagree with his conclusions, but swears by the studies that DO conform to his beliefs. On the other hand, Mr. Hammond IS willing to reference those studies, whereas other authors may take the easy way out and simply avoid mentioning them.

This book was definitely worth the read, While I'm not prepared to blindly accept everything that the author claims, it certainly gave me a lot to think about and will inspire more research on my part. In my opinion, this outcome should count as a “win” for any non-fiction author.

RATING: 4 stars.

DISCLOSURE: I was given this book by the author in return for a prompt and honest review.

If you think you might or know you do have mercury poisoning, your prognosis is a lot better if you educate yourself about your illness. A basic understanding of what mercury does to you and how chelation works will save you money and speed your recovery.

Mercury Poisoning is a good, readable overview of the "invisible" illness of mercury poisoning. I say invisible because most doctors still do not diagnose or look for mercury toxicity. They label and treat the symptoms instead. (Depression? Multiple Sclerosis? Here, take these expensive pills.) Those that do look for mercury often use treatments that make the problem worse in a significant number of people.

This book does not aim to convince, but to educate. It outlines studies and stories linking mercury exposure to various symptom patterns like multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, autism, and others. It covers sources of exposure, introduces some of the basic science behind mercury toxicity, how to diagnose mercury toxicity (it is not as straightforward as one would expect) and the basics of treatment - safe amalgam removal, chelation therapy, and the vitamins, supplements, adrenal and thyroid support to get you through chelation.

I found Mercury Poisoning ~ The Undiagnosed Epidemic to be rather technical but understandable when I read it. The material on how heavy metals influence our health and ways to use vitamins and food choices to reduce heavy metal levels in our bodies was interesting and after examining the vitamins and foods we eat regularly, we need to only add a few foods to make our diet better to reduce the chance of them in our systems. This is a reference book I plan to keep and consult on a regular basis to keep my family healthy. I don't think it is a one approach to cure all but with this and other health considerations another tool to use to keep us in good health.

My thanks to David Hammond, author, for the gift of Mercury Poisoning ~ The Undiagnosed Epidemic. This review represents my honest opinion of this book.

A Frighteningly Informative Read

4.75 Stars

The case for the wide range of medical risks and illnesses that could stem from mercury poisoning is easy to understand and compelling. There is no feeling of over the top scare tactics or sensationalism that you can find in books like this. The author speaks of his own experiences as well as provides page after page of research.

I would recommend that every household have a copy of this book, given the worldwide levels of exposure to mercury and other toxic metals.
