Shawntelle Madison is a web developer who loves to weave words as well as code. She’d never admit it, but if asked she’d say she covets and collects source code. After losing her first summer job detassling corn, Shawntelle performed various jobs—from fast-food clerk to grunt programmer to university webmaster. Writing eccentric characters is her most favorite job of them all. On any particular day when she’s not surgically attached to her computer, she can be found watching cheesy horror movies or the latest action-packed anime. She lives in Missouri with her husband and children.
Quick & Dirty: A matchmaker for supernaturals finds herself in a bad situation when her car is repossessed, taking with it her last chance at keeping her business afloat. Now, she must enter Limbo to try and find it, all the while fighting her attraction to her guide, the man who repossessed her car in the first place.
Opening Sentence: From behind the desk in her matchmaking agency office, Tessa Dandridge thought she’d heard it all until her client blurted, “My last date had National Geographic boobs.“
The Review:
When I first read the plot description for this book, I thought it sounded promising, so I went into it with an open mind. After the first couple of chapters, I thought I was really going to enjoy the book. Unfortunately, everything went downhill after the first few chapters, and reading started to become more of a chore. In the end, the book just didn’t end up being for me.
Tessa runs a matchmaking service for fellow supernaturals. Unfortunately, business isn’t quite booming, and money is becoming more and more of an issue. Her last hope of success comes in the form of a client who can only be contacted using a special scroll that is kept in her car. As luck would have it, Tessa’s money troubles catch up to her at just the wrong time, and she discovers that her car has been repossessed. She doesn’t think she has the time to wait for the appropriate paperwork to be filed so she can get her car back, so she instead decides to begin going on repo jobs with the man who repossessed her car, Rob. During every repo job, there is an opportunity for Tessa to enter Limbo, the dimension where her car is located. All she needs to do is find her car, retrieve the scroll, and then her business can be saved. As she and Rob spend more time together, they can’t fight their growing attraction. There are things Rob isn’t telling her though. Will the discovery of Rob’s secrets tear them apart?
If you’ve read any of my more negative reviews before, you know that I have a hard time liking a book when I can’t connect to the characters. Once again, that’s a big part of why I didn’t end up liking this one. The only character I really enjoyed was the spirit that lives inside Rob’s satchel, and he really didn’t show up all that often. Both Rob and Tessa were extremely underdeveloped. They both seemed very one dimensional, which made it hard for me to bring myself to care about what was going on with them, including their romance.
Another factor that affected my enjoyment of the book was the world building. There really wasn’t any to speak of. By the end of the book, I knew that there were witches, wizards, and warlocks, but I really couldn’t tell you the difference between them or why there was such animosity between the wizards and warlocks. Maybe if I had a better understanding of the universe the book takes place in, maybe I would have enjoyed the plot a bit more.
Overall, this book just left a mainly negative impression on me. It lacked character development and the world building was non-existent, making it very hard for me to enjoy what was going on. I’ve heard good things about the author’s other series (which is connected to this one), so I may try that one someday, but I won’t be in any hurry to do so.
Notable Scene:
He interrupted her escape. “Do you have a roommate?”
“I used to have one when I first moved here. Now, it’s me and my familiar, Kiki. She might make her appearance in a bit for attention.” The cat stirred from her hiding spot in Tessa’s bedroom at the sound of her name.
“You have one pet?” Kiki had jumped into his lap, hungry for affection. her tail flicked like fly fishing pole.
She nodded. Unless she had another and was too busy to miss the elusive feline.
His eyes darted to various places in her living room. “There are nine cats in here.”
Her forehead scrunched from confusion, then to frustration.
“Oh, those were my familiars before Kiki. They all died.”
“Died? Cats live around fifteen to twenty years. There is a roomful of ghost cats in here.”
“Over the years, I’ve had a few problems…”
“That’s not what the short-haired tabby just told me.”
The madness never ended when it came to Rob. “You aren’t an animal empath, are you?” Not only was he wonderful to look at, but he could communicate with Bambi as well.
“Did you really think it was a good idea to put the litter box next to your Uncle Charlie’s magic hat?”
“I can’t believe Little Toes told you that. It was an accident. Uncle Charlie left a dragon in the hat. After the cat used the litter box, he jumped into the wrong place…Why am I explaining this to you?”
She marched to her bedroom to change her clothes and slammed the door for good measure.
“You need to feed Kiki more!” he said.
FTC Advisory: CreateSpace provided me with a copy of Repossessed. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.
I love Shawntelle Madison's Coveted series, but Repossessed just didn't work quite as well for me. I did like the characters and I think the world started to fill itself in towards the end, but I still had some issues with a few elements.
Tessa is working as a supernatural matchmaker, but her business isn't making as much money as she had hoped. Because of her lack of funds, Rob has to repo her car which also has her Smythe scroll in it. Tessa uses the scroll to contact her clients that snub modern technology, and they are very expensive and difficult to replace. She decides to tag along with Rob on his repo jobs for the chance to try and find her car; it's being held in magical storage that can only be opened for new deposits. As Tessa and Rob work together, they grow closer but also become targets for a rogue warlock that doesn't like having his things taken.
The main problem with Repossessed is that so many elements felt disjointed. Tessa following Rob felt like a setup in the end because she probably could have gotten her car back sooner just by filing the appropriate paperwork. Rob was on shore leave from the military, but he didn't bother to tell his family or Tessa that he had to go back in a month. Tessa's business seems to be failing on its own, but then at the end it seemed like her terrible aunt was really the cause for her money troubles. Even the villian, Dagger, felt tacked on. Oh yeah, and the secret magical branch of the military seemed to come out of nowhere as well.
The magical world itself was missing a lot of background and left a lot of questions unanswered. My biggest one... why is there a supernatural repo man? If Tessa was behind in her payments, wouldn't a normal repo man be enough to come take her car? It was never identified as to who she was in debt with re: her vehicle. Just how seperate was the magical society from the regular one?
There were things I liked in Repossessed though. Tessa and Rob themselves were interesting characters and I liked them together once they worked through their issues. Rob's magical bag, Harabeuji, was hilarious and a very unique addition to the story. The idea of a supernatural matchmaker was ingenious, but I don't think we saw enough of what Tessa actually did in this book. Rob's family was very sweet and Tessa's ghostly grandmother had Tessa's best interest at heart though there was very little she could do to help her.
All in all, Repossessed just felt like a shadow of Shawntelle Madison's Coveted series. While that world was highly-detailed and integrated from the beginning, the Warlock Repo Man Chronicles has a ways to go. I might pick up another book in this series, but I don't suggest new readers start here. Pick up the Coveted series first and then come back to this one. Regular readers of Shawntelle's world should give this one a try to see if it fits their taste better than mine.
Thank you to Netgalley and Shawntelle Madison for providing an ARC copy of this book!
Tessa Dandridge has been trying to live out the dream her grandmother created with a matchmaking business created from a belief that true love does exists for every species. Using some of her water witch skills she makes every attempt to create a love match regardless of the nature of the beast, so to speak. Her clients are part of a world where werewolves, warlocks, and witches exist not peacefully but a negotiated co-existence and while they are demanding they also pay very well to find the perfect match.
When Tessa has her car relocated to the least desirable place known as Limbo the panic she feels goes beyond a lack of transportation. Tessa had stored in the back of her car the one piece of material she needs to keep her business functional, the scroll. Tessa cuts a deal that has her gaining assistance from Rob Shin a repo man part time and Navy SEAL full time. Rob will take her on some repossession ride along so that when he opens a portal to Limbo Tessa can do a quick recon to retrieve her scroll. Problem is she is more than inexperienced she is a logistical nightmare when it comes to following orders and staying out of trouble. She cannot tap into her powers to make things fall into place and she is just too smoking hot for him to ignore. Rob came home on leave to heal a wound, help out his family, and earn some extra quick cash not fall in love with a woman that has him not only daring to go to Limbo but would follow her to any part of the universe.
The magic between Rob and Tessa jumps right off the pages and Shawntelle Madison has crafted a story that has every reader finding one more minute to finish this book.
A fun and flirty unexpected romance between a matchmaking witch and a warlock repo man!
Tessa Dandridge is a not so powerful water witch who has continued the family legacy of matchmaking among the supernatural community. Her job is no easy feat, her clients are beyond demanding and their late payments are putting her business in danger of failing. Just when things couldn’t get any worse, Tessa’s car is repossessed, along with a magical scroll she uses to contact her clients. To save her business and reputation, Tessa must team up to work with Rob the sexy repo man (by paying him to tag along) who has access to the place her car has been sent…Limbo. As Rob and Tessa join forces to get her scroll their attraction grows stronger and it’s not long before danger finds them in the form of a rogue warlock set on attaining his repossessed possessions and starting an all out supernatural war!
REPOSSESSED is a light and entertaining romance with just enough paranormal elements for this PNR junkie! First off, I was thrilled to see the story is set in NYC, my hometown…it made my connection to the story that more special. Tessa is a delightful leading lady who is totally relatable, she comes from a wealthy family (with plenty of drama) but wants to earn her own money and follow in her grandmother’s footsteps as a great matchmaker. She’s a single, independent woman dedicated to her job and has some of the worst luck, but her determination to succeed on her own is admirable. As a water witch she doesn’t have extraordinary powers, they range from cloaking spells to possibly saving herself while in water, but only if she isn’t distracted! Tessa is extremely curious and outspoken which often gets her into trouble and Rob is the perfect compliment to her strong personality. Her supernatural abilities are not enough to help her out of the sticky situations she gets herself in but thank goodness she has a warlock repo-man in her corner!
The leading man in this story is none other than Rob Shin, a real renaissance man…he’s a Navy SEAL, powerful warlock and supernatural repo man. He comes off as a flirty alpha hero but there’s more to him than that. To help his struggling aunt and uncle, he takes on odd jobs as a repo man while on medical leave from the Navy. The last thing he needs is a sexy feisty witch with money problems over his shoulder as temptation but the need to help his family trumps anything else. He has a few secrets he’s hiding from them and ultimately Tessa, but he’s just trying to be honorable and do the right thing. I love his non-chalant attitude and sexy banter when it comes to Tessa…this warlock definitely has swagger!
The chemistry between Rob and Tessa is electric from the moment they set eyes on each other, but I enjoyed the build up to their romance. They spend a lot of time together on repo jobs which gives them time to really get to know each other (in between their flirting..haha). I especially like that the author paired up a witch and a warlock, I love a forbidden romance as much as the next girl, but this was a refreshing romance of two people who can actually be together without any outside conflict. Rob and Tessa are a sweet and sexy couple that keeps you engaged from beginning to end.
REPOSSESSED is more character driven and focuses less on world building, leaving me curious about a few things but completely expected while reading the first in a new series. I hope to learn more about this fascinating world of witches, warlocks and wizards and the politics behind it all. Although this is a romance, Shawntelle Madison adds a little darkness to the plot with a villain by the name of Dagger (yes, it doesn’t get more villainy than that!) and also introduces Rob’s “spirit” bag Harabeuji and Tessa’s grandmother who love to share their hilarious thoughts at the most inopportune times. A little bit of magic, suspense, and a smexy romance will leave you eager for more of this fun, new supernatural world.

Tessa Dandridge is a witch and a supernatural matchmaker. Matchmaking is in her blood because this is what her grandmother did. Anyone who has tried to make it in N.Y. can tell you how tough it and being supernatural doesn't make it any easier. Tessa is in debt up to her eyeballs trying to keep her business afloat but she knows if she can just manage to hook one big client, she can save her business and be the success her grandmother always thought she would be.
Things take a turn for the worst Tessa when her Honda Civic is repossessed and along with it, the magical scroll which allows her to communicate with her clients. Determined to get it back, Tessa make a deal with company which repossessed her car, to allow her to pick into limbo and get her scroll back. Tessa quickly finds out that though her plan is a good one it comes with a many more complications than she can possibly imagine, chief amongst them the navy seal Rob Shin.
I chose to read this book because I am a huge fan of Shawnelle Madison, but that being said, this book did not work for me at all. I simply could not invest in the characters or Tessa's mission to get the scroll back. The world was not developed well and had I not had a background through reading the previous books in her Coveted Series, it would have felt completely slapped together without much thought.
Repossessed is very much as straight up romance novel in that the plot essentially would not exist without the building attraction between Rob and Tessa whereas; the same is not true for the coveted series. Tessa seemed to shamble from issue to issue with Rob being there to pull her butt out of the fire. She function much like a typical damsel in distress with nothing much to recommend her.
Tessa knows she needs her car back and her plan to expedite the situation by trying to slip into limbo makes sense but what does not make sense is that she never bothers to fill out the proper paperwork to go through the normal procedure. Who does that? This is especially true because it takes her a month to get into limbo and actually find her car? She knows that her aunt is sabotaging her business but she never once mentions this to her family. Why? Yes, there is pride in wanting to make it on your own but if you are being sabotaged and not fighting back, that is conceding and not being independent.
Amazing book by this very talented author who seems to specialise in urban fantasy. Set in a world of witches, warlocks and wizards and even the odd troll ! This is a fast paced read with lots going on and features a smart heroine and a quietly confident hero, sigh! The story opens with Tessa a water witch who runs a matchmaking service for Supernaturals looking for love . Oh yes and it's strictly legit because if you want a call girl then you've definitely come to the wrong place! She struggling financially and just needs to keep the council member sweet so that he will recommend her . Then everything goes wrong when her car is repossessed and with it the magical scroll she uses to contact her more obscure clients. Rob is a warlock and navy seal but he's home temporarily trying to help his relatives who might lose their home. He's acting as a "repo man" which puts him in all kinds of crazy situations and meeting the meddlesome Tessa whilst repossessing her car seems to start a whole world of hurt. Tessa's car is in Limbo but getting it back is worse than any nightmare and could be dangerous. Tessa won't stop dogging his footsteps and soon she's convinced his boss to let her help Rob in order to get into Limbo and find her missing scroll. Problem is Rob can open Limbo in order to deposit things there but reclaiming them is so not that easy and when an angry and very powerful warlock takes exception to Robs work it looks as if all hell is about to break loose. Tessa is an infuriating and troublesome woman but Robs determined to protect her but this witch is no shrinking violet and is with him until the end! Such a fabulous and fun read. Well done Ms Maddison on literally grabbing this readers attention. Great writing and an engaging storyline. A perfect example of urban fantasy with a dash of romance. Recommended
I received an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
I loved Shawntelle Madison's world she created in this book. Magic isn't exactly welcomed, it's hidden from everyday people but possesses a quality that keeps it in the shadows. We get to see battling Warlocks, Wizards, and Witches.
I loved Tessa's character. Her determination, lifestyle, and job are perfect for her. A supernatural matchmaker, her job is harder than any other matchmakers. Not only does she need to find the perfect match for her clients but she has to make sure they are magically inclined to keep up with her clients. Her character was unique and I haven't read a ton of books with supernatural water witch matchmakers.
Rob was fantastic as well. A Navy SEAL that is working as a supernatural repo man. HE is tall, handsome and intelligent. Currently lying to his family about why he is in New York, he becomes involved with Tessa and begins to open up a little about himself.
When Rob repos Tessa's Honda Civic he takes with it a supernatural scroll used to contact some of Tessa's largest clients. If she can't pull off what these clients are looking for she is going to have to close up her business. She is already in the red and has gone and got funding for her business from loan sharks in the supernatural world. All she needs is a big client and it will all pay off. Rob helps her get into Limbo, the void where her car is.
They try several times and each time she is getting closer. As they get to know each other a relationship blossoms and I absolutely loved them together. They were perfect for each other. Rob has a strength and determination that Tessa learns to draw from, making each of them stronger.
I am going to be keeping an eye out for more of the Warlock Repo Man Chronicles. IT looks like it is going to be a fantastic series!
Tessa is trying to keep her business afloat, juggling clients late with payment, new grumpy clients and relatives with a thorn in their side. Did I mention it´s a magical Matchmaker business? While on a meeting in town, her car is repossessed. That would be manageable but in it, she had a scroll that is critical if she´s to keep up her work and appointments. Lost in limbo, and her only chance to get there, is to team up with the man who did the repossessing. Rob couldn´t help but feel drawn to Tessa, but she´s got a lot against her. He stays away from women with money trouble, always, and he´s only in town for a short while, on medical leave from the Navy. This Repo job is just a short term work to aid his family with extra money. Action, suspense, smutty fluff and magic in a great combo. A quick read that leaves me wanting more from this world. A new favorite author! (for me)
She has done it again. I am so happy that Shawntelle has continued her pattern mixing real world problems with paranormal beings in an Urban setting. Repossessed is completely original and stays with you long after you read it.
One of the central themes of this book is something everyone understands- money. Tessa is trying to stay afloat in her supernatural matchmaking business and is weeks away from hitting a big payday with an extremely influential warlock. The only problem is that he lives in a different realm. This means that she needs a special scroll that she spent thousands of dollars on to contact him and several other clients. The magical scroll that is in her car. The car that was repo-ed by Rob. Who dumped the car in the in-between- a magical place filled with mountains and mountains of repo-ed items that can only be accessed when am item is repo-ed and needs to be dumped. Trying to fill out the paperwork to get her car back could take forever, so Tessa takes it upon herself to bribe the boss in order to make Rob take her on repo missions in order for her to search for her car.
Neither one of them is happy about her tagging along. She causes trouble for Rob and Rob keeps embarrassing her and putting her in ridiculous situations. I absolutely adored how their romance progressed. While going on these fun and sometimes dangerous repo jobs with each other, they get to know each other and develop a romance. Of course the attraction is there from the very beginning, but is held by by their initial dislike of each other. These two are wonderful characters and I can not wait to read more about them in the future.
The book is told in alternating points of view between the two, so I feel like I really got to know them throughout their journey.
Rob is or Korean origin and cares a great deal about his family. He is funny and very good at what he does. He had secrets that he hides from everyone, but he does it to protect them. He is a genuinely good guy and I fell for him in this book. I love that his Korean language and background was a large part of the novel, as well as his family connections. I really like how he fell for Tessa and I just adore their romance.
Tessa is not that great at the whole witch thing. She never put in a lot of time studying, so she is constantly making a fool of herself in front of Rob. She takes a few hard blows, but is resilient and never stops trying to save her business. She is a greatly admirable character. And funny, too. Between her and Rob, I was smiling or rolling my eyes every couple of pages.
The very end got a bit blurry for me, when everything took on a new plot very fast. I was left reeling. I will need some time to switch from the laid back style of this book to the different direction the series will be going in. I am also still trying to puzzle out some of the warlock/ wizard tensions that were explained.
Repossessed is a very unique read with a fun Urban setting full of the paranormal. The romance was sweet and the characters were very endearing with their adorable quirks- which is my favorite thing about Shawntelle's characters. I will most definitely be continuing the series.
I would definitely recommend to fans of sweet romance, paranormal plots, real world problems, Urban settings, endearing characters and original story-lines.
I really enjoyed the Coveted series, and when I saw that Shawntelle was releasing a new novel, I was impatient to get into it. In addition, the mention of the universe of the first series made me really curious. But this time, no more werewolves but witches and warlocks and two in particular, Rob and Tessa.
We thus discover Tessa, a young woman who runs an agency to help supernatural beings finding love. But whatever everyone thinks, it’s a lot harder than it seems, especially when some clients do not remain in our dimension but in others. For them, no way for a classical communication, but the young woman has a scroll that allows her to contact them. However, when after an appointment, her car is repossessed by a warlock and stored in limbo because of unpaid bills, the young woman finds herself upset. Yes indeed, the scroll was in her car and if she doesn’t retrieve it, she will lose her job. It is therefore imperative that she gets it fast! However, there is only one way to do it and she’ll have to team up with Rob, this man who doesn’t have a respected work. But so you know, he can not reach limbo until he needs to repossess objects. Tessa is going to follow him throughout his days hoping to finally get her things, but everything is much more complicated than expected. Indeed, they may well attract the attention of unsavory people, unhappy to see their belongings collected. But more than that, this woman, who despite her help for love, never had any luck herself and her meeting with Rob could change everything… if he does not break her heart before anything begins.
I confess that, unlike for the other novels by the author, it was a little more difficult for me to get into the story and to hang on the characters and it took me several chapters for the magic to happen. Yet it was quite interesting to see the ideas put forward here in relation to the debts of people. It was something really original and I loved to know how everything was working exactly. Tessa is really determined to recover what she lost despite the dangers, but I must say that despite appearances her life is far from easy and it’s always more complicated. I also loved the interaction she has with Rob but I confess I did not expect the revelations we learn about him. I understood why the yound woman was angry about it. Regarding the warlock, I must say that his behavior bothered me a bit, but the more we advance in the story the more we understand why he did that. It was also quite touching to discover that despite the facade he presents to people, there was more and he would do anything to help the people he cares about.
I must admit that the rhythm is a little slower than what I had the habit of reading but it is certainly a pleasure to try it even if I prefer her other series. I am somehow curious to read more and see how Volume 2 will be thereafter.
Truth be told, I had no idea what to expect when reading the title. I mean, come on, a Warlock Repo Man?But I can also honestly say I am more than happy to have had the opportunity to read this book and more than pleasantly surprised with how things turned out.
Having more than a few financial problems myself, I could definitely feel where Tessa was coming from. Determined to make it on her own and make her business a success, without asking her family, who are indeed well off, for any help. Even a Water Witch has to have some pride, and in some cases asking for help can be a physical ache. Especially when the people you would have to ask have been dissappointing the entirety of your life, or would like nothing more than to see you fail, miserably. So, when her car gets repossessed, by a man she ogled so hard at a stoplight she could probably count just how many dimples were in his derriere, and the only way to contact the one client that could make or break her is in the glove compartment, let's just say she is pretty desperate to get it back. But when one door closes....
Minho 'Rob' Shin is a powerful Warlock, Navy SEAL and a Supernatural Repo Man. Coming home to find his Aunt and Uncle in dire need of cash, he takes on any odd job he can find, including that of a Repo Man of a special sort. Not only does he repo cars', but wands, magical jewelry and even a rabbit's foot here and there, tossing the items into Limbo and leaving a magical calling card whenever payments become non-existent. After-all, though magic may be free, magical items are not. Whenever there is a discrepancy the owner is more than free to settle the dispute in the Supernatural Municipal Court, as long as they're willing to wait in line for a few years. Except for Tessa Dandridge, who is not willing to wait, but willing to do whatever else it takes to get her car back, more importantly the Scroll inside, even if it means jumping into Limbo each and every time he goes to Repo something. But Rob better watch out, because she may just jump into his heart as well and he is quickly running out of time.
There is also a war brewing on the sidelines, Wizards' VS Warlocks. And one very Dark Warlock determined for the Warlocks to come out on top, whatever means necessary. So when Rob and Tessa start meddling in his business by repossessing items on his evil to-do list, he can think of quite a few imaginative punishments, i.e. an extended trip to Limbo, or even death. Either would suit him just fine.
Fans of Magic and Love will love this read; it's pretty light with just a smidgen of darkness. So for readers taking their first step into the Paranormal world this will be the perfect read. For readers who only feel at home when reading of the Paranormal, you'll be sure to like this too. There may not be much blood and guts, but it is indeed a beautiful love story and a fresh, new outlook on the Supernatural world.
Oh my, I loved this book!! It's hilariously funny, unendingly unique and all kinds of wonderful. The world building is fantastic. Seriously, it's awesome. The writing is amazingly well done, with a storyline that flowed from beginning to end, it kept me quickly flipping the pages to find out what would happen next.
When Tessa, a water witch and supernatural matchmaker, gets into a financial jam, the last thing she needs is for her car to get repo'ed The trunk of her car contains her last hope for saving her business, basically it's a supernatural phone book. She's got one last client that could make or break her business and now with her car repoed and off in Limbo, she has no other choice but to try and get into Limbo to get the book back. Getting into Limbo is harder than it sounds which leads her to none other then the man who repoed it in the first place, the absolutely, positively delicious, Navy Seal, Rob.
Paying him to let her tag along, she goes with Rob on his jobs in the hope that when he opens the Limbo door at each job, she can go in and try to get her book back. With her business on the edge of failing, and Rob trying to take care of some of his own family business, the two of them begin to fall head over heels into the cutest relationship ever. Add in a crazy bad guy out to vindictively pay them back for taking his stuff and create a war between the supernaturals in the process and you've got the recipe for a fantastically fun, entertaining read.
Tessa right off the bat is extremely likable. She's a rich girl, who isn't so rich anymore. Struggling to keep her business from completely going under, she's someone with a lot of panache and drive to keep going and fight through. And Rob, yummy, yummy Rob. He's Asian, he's a Navy Seal, he's a Warlock. Need more?? He's yummy, pure yumminess. I loved him. Together the chemistry between them crackles from the moment they meet. I really loved how everything progressed.
I also really loved how the story was told and that it alternated between Tessa and Rob. It brought a wholeness to the story and I enjoyed it more because I got to see things from both of their perspectives.
This is definitely a book to check out. It's fun, sexy, uniquely done and awesomely written.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Witch Tessa is in over her head with her matchmaking business, having gone into debt to stay afloat. When one of her creditors repossesses her car, the one magical item she needs to keep going gets taken with the car. In exchange for matchmaking services, Tessa tags along with the star reposes agent, the warlock/navy seal Rob, to see if she can get her things back. Rob is on leave from the navy to help his aunt and uncle to pay off money they owe, and he has no interest in showing someone the ropes, but has no choice. The two end up on a very magical journey that they never expected. Shawntelle Madison has the most amazing ability to create new worlds. She describes things that I have never thought of or heard of before, yet I can completely see it when I am reading. Everything about the worlds she creates in her books is amazing. She leaves no detail out, and I feel like I am transported elsewhere. Limbo in this book is a no-mans world, full of hodge podge items that have been repossessed, all with strange magical properties. I have never experienced a place like this before, but through her words I was able to see this crazy place. Her ability to create something unique from nothing is one of the reasons I continue to read her books. That being said, this was not my favorite book by her. It was an ok book, and maybe if I had started on this one instead of the coveted series first I would love it. But it just felt like character development was lacking. The characters were ok, and I want them to succeed, but I could put the book down and forget about them. This book was heavily into the action and the sexual tension, but less about who the characters were when there was no conflict, just how they respond to pressure. There was a happy ending, not really a happily ever after, but a happy for the moment let’s see how this plays out ending. I would probably read another book with these same characters just to see what will happen to them. Overall it was an ok book, just not a great book for me. The first novel in the Warlock Repo Man Chronicles is an intriguing fantasy romance with refreshingly unique elements.
Tessa Dandridge is a supernatural magic who knows that a little mist and magic will help others find love. That is until a certain repo man, repossesses her car with a magical scroll which her only contact with a few of her more influential clients. Now she must depend on Rob’s help or lose her business. Navy Seal Rob Shin is on medical leave and to help out family with money problems he’s taken on a temporary job as a magical repo man. He agrees to help Tessa, but he never counted on putting her life in danger by getting her caught in a war between wizards and warlocks.
This steady paced plot has action, suspense and romance with some interesting concepts that grab the reader’s attention. The author brings the story to life with vivid images and bewitching characters that are easily related to.
The relationship between Rob and Tessa starts off rocky as they refuse to give in to their attraction but the passion that sizzles between the two radiates from every page. The emotions and personalities of the characters are conveyed with intensity making them believable and life like.
The author has created an intriguing world of wizards and warlocks that capture the imagination and entertain readers with some unique and refreshing elements that make for an enjoyable read. The reader’s get caught up in Rob and Tessa’s story and have to keep reading to the very end.
I enjoyed the story and founds the story line very interesting and I really liked how Shawntelle Madison handled the battle at the end it was magical but believable. There were a few instances where I had doubts about the story, but I couldn’t really figure out a reason for my misgivings, so I will have to reserve my final opinion on this series until I read the next one.

This was fun and quick read that I was instantly hooked on. The writing had me smiling and laughing along the way with its quirky characters and the insanity that is their lives. I really hope this is the start of a fun new series.
Tessa is a matchmaker from a line of matriarchal matchmakers. Unfortunately, running a business in NYC that relies on ornery supernaturals paying her is turning out to be harder than it seems. She’s barely keeping the business afloat, which means bill collectors and repo men. Lucky for her, getting her car repossessed leads her to meeting Rob. Rob is a navy SEAL on leave who took a job as a repo man to make a quick buck. He’s digging his aunt and uncle out of debt and being a generally good guy. Tessa forces him to take her along on his repo jobs in the hopes that she can find her car in limbo (where all repossessed items end up). Honestly, the main storyline didn’t interest me as much as the characters did. I mean, c’mon, Tessa has a bunch of ghost cats wandering around in her apartment. How can any story compare to the backstory on that?!?
So, of course, sparks fly between the two unlikely allies. The romance is adorable and hot and wonderful to read. There was some smut, but it was more romantic and sizzling kisses than the wham-bam type. This supernatural world was so fun to get a glimpse of that I am really eager for more books from the same world. I hope the author has some more in the pipeline!
Witch, Tessa Dandridge, is a matchmaker who uses a scroll to contact some of her most important clients. Warlock, Rob Shin, SEAL on leave and repo agent takes her car with the scroll inside. Tessa hooks up with Rob to do out repoing because she can only access Limbo (where her car is) when the gate opens for another repo item to be turned in. Unfortunately, the gate stays open for a brief time and doesn't open in the same place each time. The story is pretty much about their exploits. Tessa's and Rob's family situations muddle things as well.
The characters did foolish things I didn't understand like Rob not telling his family he had to go back to duty in a month to spare them (how does not telling them do anything good?!?), Tessa seems to have an aunt sandbagging her business from jealousy and she doesn't tell the family?!? They use wands at the end of the story, but never earlier on. I understand there's a lot of read tape with getting her car back, but it takes about a month to get the scroll any way (with no guarantee that it would happen), wouldn't an average person at least go through the steps to get their car back?!? Ron also gives Tessa the cold shoulder at first when she comes along. Why? She wasn't taking money from him or hindering him...much.
So, while my feeling were positive at the end, I couldn't really recommend this book, but if it was at the library and you wanted a quick read, I'd say give it a try.

Repossessed by Shawntelle Madison is the first book in her Warlock Repo Man Chronicles. Repossessed takes place in an unknown community of witches, warlocks, and wizards in modern day New York City.
Repossessed started off by capturing me in Tessa's world. Tessa is a new matchmaker trying to follow in her grandmothers footsteps - lets face it - being a matchmaker for this underground community of magic users is going to be a challenge. Madison does a great job placing the humor in the story line, but something just fell flat with everything else. At times I felt that things started and stopped randomly leaving me a little confused as the flow of the story didn't seem fluid.
Madison's character development was certainly up to code and I enjoyed every one of them. This is a big part of what makes this review a little conflicting. Although individual elements really worked the overall feel was monotonous. I will say that I loved Madison's ideas and development and I would love to pick up some of her other books and give them a try!
At the beginning of each chapter there is a tip on how to date. Admittedly it is aimed at paranormal and supernatural beings, but there is plenty of good advice for regular humans as well. Such as, “Witches hate warlocks who want to jump into bed after the first date. Just because you can pull a rabbit out of your hat doesn’t mean you can pull something magical out of your pants.” How true is that!
2) Is this Paranormal or Contemporary?
I know that because it talks about other beings, magic exists, and magic is used frequently within the pages of the book that it falls under the category of Paranormal Romance. But, it feels like a contemporary. I don’t know if it was because the main conflict had almost nothing to do with magic and everything to do with a normal, even commonplace, occurrence, or if the characters just have that vibe about them. I’m not saying that is bad. In fact it might be just what someone is looking for. It left me wanting more! And personally, I could have used another sex scene or two. I mean Rob’s tongue was magnificent, it even says so in the book, so why didn’t it get at least a second chance to wow us.
Rob he's the type of man I love real a**y at first and loving last, "Rob reached into the pocket of his jeans. Tessa expected him to turn in her direction to ask what she wanted, but he paid for his drink an headed for the door. He mouth dropped open. What an a**. "Hey, I would've like something to drink," she growled to his back. A short snort was her reply." He's just oh so sexy, "his mouth lingered near earlobe. "I wouldn't take you for a tease, Tee. You've been sending me all sorts of signals." Tessa's reaction to Rob's body is something else, "she knew he enjoyed watching her watching him. Especially when he discarded his briefs... Now that is a wand I'l like to wield. Her eyes lingered on his length before they admired his hardened stomach. The muscles clenched twice before he leaned forward." He doesn't like certain things to get in his way to pleasure his woman, "I'm qualified when it means I get easy access without those things in the way."
Arc provided by netgalley for an honest review. Tessa is a witch with a struggling match making business whose life only becomes way more complicated when her car gets repossessed. With the car her magic scroll also ends up in limbo. The scroll is the only tool that helps her reach those clients she can only reach through magic. She decides to rage along with the agent who put her in this predicament in order to try to get her scroll back. Rob is a deadlock navy seal who works as a repo man on his time off in order to help his family not loose their home because of their debt. So helping a witch who in his opinion only makes bad choices is not his idea of a good time. The story is pretty cute but because he disapproves of her debt he gives her a bit of a hard time which I think made the book drag a bit. I'm all for flirty bickering hut I'd have wished for these two to have had a dealer burn up my kindle up in flames connection.
There is a lack of world building in this story that left me confused as I started reading. The world is filled with witches and warlocks, but there is no explanation of their existence or motivations. I did love the fact that the hero, Rob, is Korean and that the story doesn't make an huge deal out of it, it's simply part of who he is, and he's damn attractive too. However, the heroine, Tessa, gets a bit of back story of being in debt because of her new matchmaking business and then all of a sudden she's accompanying Rob on his repo job without any logical explanation as to why until Tessa is occasionally jumping into limbo trying to get her stuff back. How was that a logical jump when Tessa is clearly useless when it comes to defending herself against the apparently dangerous job of repossession. The story has great potential, I just wish for a bit more world building and a little less plot holes.
After having read and loved Madison's Coveted and Kept, I wanted more, so I picked up Repossessed, which is set in the same universe as those books.
And this is a very enjoyable read.
I will confess I thought the main plot of Tessa trying to get back her scroll was a bit far fetched. I really couldn't believe that getting the scroll back through legal channels would be even more complicated than the way she's trying to get to the scroll.
But that aside this is a fun and entertaining read.
The interaction between Rob and Tessa was very enjoyable to read, and I loved Rob's family. I hope there will be more character development, and explanations of certain magical items and such in future books though.
Overall this book isn't as cool as the books in the Coveted series, but certainly fun enough to keep an eye out for the next book. I can advice this book to anyone who's looking for a fun and entertaining read.
Compared to all of the other books I've read by Shawntelle Madison, this one was sort of a let down. It was a quick read, but the characters didn't grab me the way her other ones have. With Nat and everyone else in the Coveted series, I was drawn into the lives of the characters and into their struggles, and I wanted to see them succeed. With Tessa and Rob in Repossessed, I just never felt like I cared much about what happened in their lives. Nat had struggles and works to overcome them (whether or not she is successful all the time) and she actually can hold her own most of the time. Tessa felt like a shadow of a damsel-in-distress, failing at just about everything in her life. I don't know if this is meant to be the start of a series or not, but I really kinda hope that it is a standalone. I don't need to go further into the lives of Tessa and Rob.
I really, really wanted to love Repossessed because the premise sounded so good. Unfortunately the story was very fragmented and the world building lacked depth to keep my attention. Tessa and Rob are very likeable characters though, and I wish they could have been more developed as well. Perhaps I wouldn’t have felt so lost if I’ve read Shawntelle Madison’s Coveted series first, but just as a stand alone read I felt this book lacked detail to connect the dots. I found myself wanting more all the way through. I’m willing to read the next book in the series because the story does have potential, and hopefully the author can fill the gaps in the plot and develop the characters more, with emphasis on their supernatural abilities too.
This series this is based off of has quickly grown to become one of my favorites. In the case of this book, I especially liked how the main character in this installment was introduced in the second book of the Coveted series. As seems to be the case with all spinoffs for me, this wasn't quite as good as the series it stems from. I really missed Natalya and the rest of the wolves, but it was a nice tie-in and will certainly be looking for additional installments in this spinoff series.
For readers interested in this particular book, this can be read as a standalone. The worlds in both this spinoff and the main series, Coveted, are really quite different and the main character, Tessa, did appear in the actual series, but only briefly.
**eARC received on behalf of the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
**I won this book through Goodreads First Reads giveaway. In no way has this influenced my rating or opinion of this book. Thank you to Goodreads and to Shawntelle Madison for this opportunity and my signed copy!**
This was different, thrilling and totally sexy! I love the way the author kept me on the edge of my seat. It was written different from anything I have ever read in this genre. Yes it has witches, warlocks and mean spirited nymphs.....but it was written in a way that made it interesting. I will not write out everything the book is about, because you can read that in the other reviews. Needless to say, if you are into supernatural genre and love a good read, this book is for you.
I look forward to reading the other books Shawntelle Madison has put out!
