Dr. Jane Miller has spent a long time coming up with a vaccine to a deadly outbreak in Peru after a sample was sent to her by her disgraced virologist father. She finally succeeds, and then learns her father is also infected, so she desperately heads to Peru to save him and the tribe he lives with. When the plane she's in, along with private company virologist Mac Coleman, crashes in suspicious circumstances, it slowly becomes clear there is some sort of conspiracy attached to this outbreak. She and Mac must stay alive in the Amazon and try to reach her father, also while dodging those willing to kill to get the vaccine.

Generally enjoyable jungle adventure moves quickly and maintains interest, even if it is overly repetitive. Jane has sexy feelings for Mac that she tries to deny, and it got tiresome getting her reasons for keeping her distance repeated over and over again. Also, the action and chapter cliffhangers consists solely of various men stepping out of the jungle with guns. Sometimes they're helpful villagers, sometimes they're the enemy. It would have been nice if the action was changed up a bit every now and then. The book lost me with the nonsense involving shaman Ernesto and his attempts to "look into Jane's soul" and talk of spirit animals. Spare me. I'm not a fan of mystical elements in what is supposed to be a non-supernatural story.

The Bombshell books are pretty decent, I've found, so long as you don't lump yourself with one of the books from that awful Athena Force mini-series. The Amazon Strain is nothing special, but it should scratch the itch for those after an okay deadly virus thriller.

This book was definitely not well done, literature-wise but I enjoyed it, it was quite predictable, a lot of redundant paragraphs and spicy af, but it is one of those cozy mysteries that I like. It was a fun read nonetheless. I genuinely do not regret reading this one, even when it was not all that good. 😂

This book was pretty good - mostly action and tension building, romance at the end. Only thing I really didn't like is all the mentionings of how the main character was independent and couldn't let this guy close. It happened too many times, making it repetitive. I liked the book as a whole though.
