Huh. I like Jerry Smath's work for leveled readers better. This was a little overly-ambitious, imo. And of course it's not a good idea to let your cat get so fat. But it's cute enough.

Sammy Salami was my favorite book of the 10 i have read. The owner of a local diner had found Sammy alone and hungry outside of his diner. He began taking care of the cat and left it for the weekend to go on vacation. Sammy could not get back into the diner because he was so fat from eating so much, but he was so hungry. Sammy saw a train similar to the one his owner had boarded, so he got on it. A nice woman named Lolly saw the lonely cat and decided to take care of him. Sammy missed his old owner, and on the way home from their vacation, he was on the same train and made friends with Lolly. When he got off the train he could not find Sammy and Lolly also got off to help look for him. Sammy jumped out of Lolly's basket and his old owner was so happy to see him. Lolly decided to help him with his diner and they both got to see Sammy daily.

Sammy Salami is an adorable cat lucky enough to find a hardworking diner owner to care for him. Trouble comes when Pete, the diner owner, decides to go on vacation- without Sammy.

Our issue is how quickly the story wrapped up. After all that lovely Vacationland detail I expected more of an explanation.

He is very fat, and cute, and he loves to eat. And he looks like Knit.

Kind of a fun story about a butcher and his friendly cat. A long story, though, and not the best for bedtime duties.

Sammy Salami is a really cute story about a stray cat who is taken in by the owner of a restaurant, but when the owner goes away on vacation, Sammy tried to find him, and gets lost.
