June Talledga has spent her whole life protecting herself. Everyone believes she’s the eccentric, happy, center of attention– but truthfully, her demons are darker than most. The only person who has ever been able to see her past her surface is Axel Price, the storm to her raging sea. Battling her feelings and her past, June must decide if the risk of pain is worth the reward of love. Will she overcome the hand she’s been dealt, or will she let it drag her back beneath its unrelenting grip?
Axel Price thinks it’s easier to be void of all emotions. He drowns himself in his career as a fisherman in an attempt at forgetting the woman who walked away three years ago. He thought he was moving on until she randomly shows up at his house, and to his surprise, is living with him. Trying to keep his distance—but doing a terrible job— Axel is confronted with the choice of letting her fully into his heart, or shutting her out completely. Faced with difficult circumstances, he realizes he would rather lose all of himself than lose her forever.
For some of us, it’s the storms that show us who we really are, not the calm of the sea.
Author and mom of three, Cece Raven, spends her days writing angsty romances and having full on conversations in her head that somehow turn into novels. Besides being an avid night owl and lover of LifeSavor gummies, she enjoys the Oregon coast and any place that smells like evergreens and fresh rain. After moving from her hometown Cece decided to deal with her homesickness through literature, creating characters who have complex backgrounds and often deal with some sort of trauma of their own. If you can't find her in the mountains or on the beach you can usually find her relaxing on a Papasan chair diving into a new book or drinking to much chai tea.
This book was SO. DANG. GOOD. I thought LWSC was unbelievable, and I was so excited for more from Cece and this did NOT disappoint. I adore her writing style, the characters, the lessons, and just how well the story blends from couple to couple! Her transitions are so smooth and well thought out. I always find myself wanting more when I reach the end!
Following June and Axels story was so heartwarming. They go through so much together and have such a fun relationship! Their playfulness and spice is so much fun to read, and definitely gets you a little hot and bothered in pretty much ever chapter. Axel is swoon worthy. That man says all. the. right. things. I swear I could read book after book with his POV and never get bored. The way he gives June the space to figure things out on her own, but tries his best to help her out of the dark time and time again is everything.
June grows so much throughout this story. Starting off she’s very reserved and feels the only way to keep her heart safe is to run from everyone that tries to love her, but throughout the story she learns that she doesn’t need to run from the people who love her. I have definitely found myself feeling a similar way, and I send love to others who may feel that way too.
I loved being able to see June and Claires relationship grow in this one. I really enjoy them as friends, and I was so glad that their friendship was included frequently throughout the book. I also appreciate that Claire and Dustin were present alot because missed them!
All in all this was a wonderful story about friendship, healing, and how amazing it can be to give love a second chance.
Thank you Cece for allowing me to read this one early, I absolutely adore you.
I loved this book. This is the second book in the Winchester Bay series and while I loved the first book, this one has my heart. I felt every emotion reading this book. The amount of times I said "I am June, June is me" was uncanny. I felt seen in this book. So many times I cried just the way the author wrote June. Her character was so broken but healing in the most perfect way. And my Axel. Yes MY Axel. I’m protective of this man! Damn, he’s perfect. What he all did for her. That takes a strong man. I don’t even want to say more. Just read it!!!!
June and Axel’s story was heart warming and pure light to the literary world! (Literally. IYKYK) 💡 I was an ARC for Ceces book Lines We Shouldn’t Cross which was absolutely the cutest story, so when she gave me a chance to be an ARC for Fishing For Trouble I felt so honored to experience that again! And wow, this book was addicting, so entertaining and most of all, it was healing!! ❤️🩹
Axel is that big Viking looking man who is actually just a big teddy bear with feelings! He’s both protective and sensitive and I swear on my life I giggled every time he threw his hair up in a bun 🤤😍
And June, our sweet, June. We see you. We are you. And I’m so grateful for a character like June. She’s someone who gives all the love she doesn’t think she deserves back! But gosh her growth in this book is incredible 🥹
Anyway this review is becoming a book itself so I’ll leave it here! This book was the perfect amount of spice, angst, and even had me in tears several times! I loved it so much and if you don’t love it, you’re insane!
