I have a hard time rating and reviewing memoirs and my rating is ultimately not on his story, but on the writing itself. I appreciate being able to read about and learn about other people's lives and stories, and I can see the emotions and love that Jarrell put into this book. I particularly liked how he described the feelings he went through throughout his life towards his biological father, as he took great care to show the complexity in these emotions.
It did have some editing flaws, and a more linear timeline might have been helpful, as it was sometimes difficult to understand what was happening because of how often it jumped back and forth in time.
Thank you to the publisher, Blue Cedar Press, for sending me a copy of this book through LibraryThing Early Reviewers.
