Melphiera Marchalrayd is misunderstood by the peerage and is called the “Voracious Villainess” for taking delight in monster meat. Likewise, Aristide is known as the “Blood-Mad Duke” for his fierce hunting skills. After a monstrous rendezvous, Aristide has fallen in love at first sight with the fearless Melphiera and has asked for her hand in marriage. Of course, one must not forget to bestow proper gifts in a noble courtship, so Aristide has arrived with a rare golden-fleeced royal moodle in tow! But what exactly goes into butchering this fine monster…? And will Aristide truly proceed with the engagement?
"If Father will allow it I'm going to live the life I never dared to dream of?!"
I love these two so much! They're so cute and absolutely adore how they are MUCH more compatible than they realize or probably even know!
Something I wasn't really expecting when starting this second volume is how Melphiera is encouraged by Aristide to use her love of monster meat to help other people. While in her land she is discouraged by everyone (except her father) to stop her research, it was fascinating to see how her mother's research has deeply helped the people in the past. And now Melphiera has the chance to help people just like her mother did and without going against her convictions or giving up her dream. That was really really wonderful to see! (Though poor Aristide might have his work cut out for him because I think Melphiera has her eyes MOSTLY on monsters…LOL)
And that wasn't the only thing wonderful to see because these two are honestly two peas in a pod and I love it! LOL! The way they get so excited and their faces light up at one another about their said abilities and passions never fails to make me smile. Plus seeing Aristide be more vocal about how beautiful his soon-to-be wife is had me swooning or giggling or both! Hehe!
I really really love the art in this series! The moments with the royal moodle were priceless and I was excited every time the little drawing of him popped up! Not only that, but just the MANY facial expressions that a variety of characters make are always fun to see!
Truly, I smiled and laughed a lot when reading this, but also very impressed by the deeper undertones, making this more just than a fantasy romcom about a monster-meat-loving girl and a monster-slaying boy. With themes of using your passion and abilities to help others, not using rumors as a "right" to be prejudiced, and the chance to follow your dreams without compromising your values, this is one I would highly recommend!
While I enjoyed this and plan to continue, volume two felt different than volume one. The first volume was perhaps more romance centric? In this the leads felt more like partners than potential lovers. I love how supportive they are of each other; I just want more cute moments.
They’re so awkward that it’s adorable. I thought this volume was. A little slow but the subject matter and the Duke’s brazenness brights me delight.
Recap: prepare a monster, feed people monster skewers, visit the lab and she agrees to be his wife, he has a talk with her dad, they prep for her to go, they fly to a fort.
AGH i had no idea so many volumes were out. ive been waiting so eagerly! im so excited to binge the next few. this one was rlly cute but not as much as the first. i think this one was just setting things up for the next few volumes. as usual i am a huge fan of kauss and the duke's dynamic. it's hilarious. excited to see melphie live with the duke and be in a place where she is accepted and hopefully even beloved. she's so precious, she deserves it.
I'm really... confused about my feelings for this volume. I loved the first volume so much, but this almost felt like it had an entirely different vibe. Instead of the wholesome, misunderstood characters I fell in love with before, at times the Duke guy just gave me weird vibes like he was hiding something or like the story was getting way too rushed. Here's hoping I was just in a weird mood and we're back to the good in volume 3.
Loving the story. Very intrigued to see how it develops. The pacing has been a bit quick and the art style isn't my favorite. It reads computer generated at times. But so far I'm really enjoying this series
Melphiera Marchalrayd has a very particular sense of taste. By that, we mean she enjoys monster meat. Most people would be terrified of the idea of eating monsters, but Melphiera understands that there is a way to make monster meat safe for consumption.
Unfortunately, it's rather difficult to find a husband when you have a reputation for eating monsters. Enter the "Blood-Mad Duke" of Galbraith. He's known to be harsh and aloof, but he may be about to meet his match.
Review:
Pass the Monster Meat, Milady! Has got to be one of the more unique series I've read (side note: Yes, I've heard of Delicious in Dungeons, it's on my list). I love the strange balance this series has struck between fantasy, food, monsters, and romance.
The romantic (sub)plot is progressing much faster than I expected. Then again, The Duke did announce his intentions in the first volume, didn't he? So I shouldn't be surprised (I think it's more because I don't read many Regency romances).
Once again, we get a deep dive into the preparation of monster meat. It doesn't go so far that animal lovers will be upset (just don't think about it too much—that's what I did), and it does have its funny moments.
There were a few surprises that may become subplots in the future. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm not sure I love this series enough to keep reading it (my library doesn't have it, so I had to buy this volume), but we'll see.

A very good follow-up to the first volume. This lighthearted story is showing it will have more depth than I had initially thought and that it may indeed go much longer than I thought too! With royals, things are never super easy and so courtship is very much a part of the story which I felt this volume starts to dive into. Art and story by Chika Mizube delivers the goods. The art is a little less detailed and I feel the background is minimalistic, but it works well. This may be a weird praise, but I love the wraparound cover! The way it is done really sets the book apart. Fun read that has a different vibe then volume 1, but I believe keeps the spirit of the characters in place.
I enjoyed the first volume, but was kind of anxious when he brought her the sleeping Moodle as a gift. This volume fulfilled that, even though they ‘harvested’ it as humanely as possible and didn’t waste any of it. It was still kind of hard for me.
Their romance is adorable, and I love their enthusiasm. I’m hoping that now the first monster is out of the way, the ‘harvesting’ can be done off-camera. But it’s a cute book so far and I’m enjoying it for the most part.
There is clearly something going on below the surface of what we are seeing, too many interrupted conversations keep happening where it feels like we are about to get vital information and then it is snatched from us. The Duke and the villainess (can't believe her dad, of all people, started that rumour about her!) continue to be super cute together. Watching the Golden Moodle get sacrificed was confronting but I did have a little chuckle at the extra panel of the Moodle going "I hope I taste good", that was kinda sweet (or I'm just cruel). Curious to see where this all goes.
what a great continuation of the series!! the romance is progressing a little quickly for my tastes, but it's all quite cute. I'm not sure I get the step mother's character....so bitchy and for what?? she doesn't seem like she'll be a huge antagonist or anything but I guess we'll see.
the art is so cute, especially when melphiera and aristide are flying together <3 the full panel at the start of chapter 8 is PERFECTION!! swoon!!

I do understand what the author was going for, but I found her father to be almost as unlikable as the step-mother… he shouldn’t be allowed to talk about loving his daughter when he was knowingly going to send her away to a place that stands against everything she is… there’s also NO way he didn’t know about the abuse the step-mother was putting her through
Love at first sight? How about love at first bite? I think that is far more fitting. She has captured the Duke's heart and suddenly that leads to his proposal. But instead of staying home and dealing with her grouchy step-mom, she is moving in with her fiance... The first night staying in the fort though. Really getting glimpses into their history and relationship.
I loooovve watching Melphiera and the Duke dance around each other clearly smitten with one another. This volume needed more Kauss (especially his teasing) and scenes from Aristide’s POV.
MF, romantasy, royalty, heroine must marry or become nun, monster hunters
I'm glad Melphie is starting to be appreciated cause her family sucks. The art style is so pretty and I love the little closet tour at the end of the volumes.
