Tewsbury Daddies #3

Imperfect Skin

Rate this book
Watching Simon and Rhys find happiness has awakened a need for Mouse to find someone to call his own. He can't help wondering if a Daddy is what he needs too, to help heal the pain and guilt he's been holding onto for years. But where would he find a Daddy willing to comfort as well as punish him the way he wants? The only man who comes close to what he needs is his boss Callum, and he’s far too good for a damaged soul like Mouse.

Callum’s life is full, with his daughter and his business leaving no time to even think about a relationship. But he can't seem to shake his attraction to a certain troublesome brat. Mouse's angel face and snarky attitude has Callum's Daddy Dom side itching to take him in hand. But as his best friend’s baby brother, Mouse is off limits—even if Callum does suspect that he can give Mouse exactly what he needs.

When Mouse's self-destructive behavior comes to a head, Callum steps up and offers Mouse a lifeline. But it’s just an arrangement, right?

What will it take for one of them to ask for more?

Imperfect Skin is a Daddy / Middle romance between consenting adults.

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

Daddy Cal had left the building, and in his place stood my Dom, in all his sexy glory. Shirtless and dressed in an old, frayed pair of black denim jeans, he oozed authority and dominance.

It’s difficult to put my finger on it, but there’s something about this particular world and small town that I really, really love. It just feels so real to me. The characters are so genuine and realistic, and I want to be a part of their friend group. They have the best kind of found family. It’s like I can damn near see the British coastal village in my head and smell the dang ocean while I’m reading it.

Outside stuff aside, I have been looking forward to Mouse’s book since the first time I read Viking Ink. He’s perfectly broken and in need of someone to see through his bs, and Cal is perfect for him. I was kicking my feet with joy when their relationship started evolving, I was so excited for them, lol. They are super cute and sweet but also burn-the-sheets hot. For example, fisting really isn’t usually my thing but the way it was written in this book? *fans self*

It’s heavy on spice and kink, both sexual and non-sexual, but it didn’t feel like that was all there was. Their kinky and sexual exploration together felt like a part of their journey and was important to their relationship development as well as important for Mouse’s mental health and healing from grief and guilt. I thought it was really well navigated.

“If you try your hardest to be a good boy for me, I’ll reward you with all the pain you can handle.”

If you’re like me and love the sweetness and kindness that often comes with daddy kink and age play but you’d also like to read more about pain play and more intense impact play, then this is the book for you.

I hope we get some play date scenes (maybe a short novella or a bonus chapter?) with Mouse and Rhys playing in their Middle and Little space together. Those two are absolute rascals and very cute.

Again, there’s something about this little world the author is creating I really enjoy and I can’t wait to keep experiencing their development. I’m also stupidly excited for Doc’s book. That man is a hoot.

PS: it’s refreshing to read about men of all ages, looks and body types finding love and being kinky.

He was going to break me apart with gentleness and I was helpless to do anything about it. The rough touch of his calloused fingers was juxtaposed with the gentle kisses he pressed against my skin.

I had shoved my feelings and childish desires so far back into my psyche that you’d need a map, compass, and Sir Edmund Hillary to find them, and I wasn’t going to let the handsome fucker ruin my hard work.

« I wanted Cal more than air, but I couldn’t ever have him. »

Just as sweet as Viking Ink, a nice mix of hurt/comfort elements and plenty of kink. And just like the other installment, it was pretty fast-paced, almost insta-love, and filled with maybe too much filler dialogue.

I loved the moments between Cal and Mouse, the cute age-play scenes and the hot kinky ones, but the rest of it was very skippable.

I’m still waiting for this author to wow me, because the potential is there and the kink is well done, but the character building and writing need a bit more sparkle.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

- Masochism/pain kink
- Strict top/bottom
- Cockwarming
- MC w/ tattoos and piercings (nipples and dick)

I'd been so excited for Mouse story ever since I read Viking Ink, and I loved to finally see him finding a Daddy and dynamic that was perfect for him!

It had been clear from the previous books that Mouse was struggling, and he certainly didn't make the best decisions for himself at the beginning of this story... But on the other hand, it did lead to him and Cal finally sorting out and acting on the lingering tension and attraction between them, so I guess it all worked out in the end - even if it was very difficult to see exactly how bad things went for Mouse.

I felt a lot for Mouse - he'd been punishing himself for years for an accident that wasn't his fault, and dealing with the guilt and pain all by himself. He'd been seeking pain in clubs for the wrong reasons, and it broke my heart to see just how deep he was hurting and the situations he put himself in. I loved how Cal stepped in and took over, and how he didn't let Mouse get away with anything, instead called him out when needed.

Cal was exactly the Daddy and Dom that Mouse needed, and I really enjoyed the combination of Daddy kink and more intense impact play. Mouse needed both, and it was great to see that Cal understood that and could give it to him. I would have loved to see more of their dynamic once they got a bit more settled, as their story all came together in a rather short time period, so I'll definitely keep my fingers crossed for more of Mouse and Cal in the future.

Imperfect Skin was an emotional read, with some great hurt / comfort and kink! I'm so happy that these two got together at last, and that all the pining that Mouse had done over the years wasn't for nothing. There were overall a lot of tropes and kinks that I enjoyed in this one, and I didn't want the story to end. I love this series and the small town that Myf Wren has built here, and I honestly can't wait to go back for more stories!

I fell in love with Mouse in the first book of the series and his HEA did not disappoint.

A perfect blend of heart wrenching hurt/comfort, scorching heat, with dashes of nail biting trauma and sweet romance.

Brilliant mental health rep with Mouse’s deep shame, grief, and self loathing after a tragic accident.
Raw, visceral depictions of kink, both safe (between MCs) and unsafe (between one MC and an ex) and the drastically different ways in which both can impact you. I loved the fact that consensual risk aware kink and straight up abuse were both shown to highlight how truly unalike they really are in practice. And how abuse is never the victims fault. Beautiful hurt/comfort and throw in absolute thigh-clenching spice and you have this amazing ride.

Imperfect Skin is a truly wonderful romance with daddy kink (including exploring middle age regression), masochism, intense hurt/comfort, almost 20 year age gap 🥵, big brother’s best friend (whose also the boss), and an already beloved cast of amazing support characters who make the entire town of Tewsbury magical.

Five stars. Couldn’t put it down.

I freaking loved this story!

Mitchell aka Mouse convinced himself he doesn’t deserve therapy. What he did, nine years ago, destroyed his family and he deserves misery. He even let himself ‘beat up’ at a club under the guise of he loves pain. He’s downright punishing himself.

When Callum understands what Mouse is doing he steps up.
What happened after that was just wonderful.
Mouse could bloom, discovered his sweet feisty middle, he could heal.
He’s loved and cared for, he got what he needed, all the good feelings, he’s home!
And Callum? Dang I want a Daddy Dom like Callum, caring, stern, gentle, encouraging, and sexy, he was everything!

The writing was flawless and very engaging, it pulled me in and I couldn’t stop until I was finished!

I think once you find one thing in a book that you don't like and then you find the second thing, you can't stop looking for the flaws. At least that's how I felt with this book, which is a shame because it's not a bad book. But at a certain point it just got frustrating. I was constantly moving back and forth between bored and annoyed.

spoilers ahead

I want to emphasize that it's not the thousand kinks that make this book unappealing to me, I dig all that smut, it's the way the scenes are strung together, the lack of depth, the not speaking out about the difficulties Mouse is struggling with (even though he later takes therapy, too much is half-heartedly hinted at for me, but there's no good deep conversation between the MCs, which I think is absolutely necessary). And what really frustrated me concerning the kinks is a lot is mentioned ... yes big, but almost none of it is put into action.
I very rarely read books with pain kink, it's just always a heavy thing, but when it's done well, it's always wonderful. Here you get fed nice things like CBT and needle play and then none of that happens. Instead, a fisting scene comes almost out of nowhere.

The initial problem I had with this book: Mouse gets hurt really badly and Callum saves him - wonderful. It doesn't take long and Mouse falls into his middle space, even though he's hardly ever experienced anything like this before, okay, Callum responds wonderfully, even though he's not really a Daddy, but he can be for Mouse. It's all very good, but suddenly we find ourselves in a kinky relationship, and I don't think the two of them really speak well with each other in terms of their relationship status, or rather we know that Mouse has pined for Calum forever, but Cal's feelings are suddenly there ... that wasn't enough.
And the thing that really threw me out of the book was that just one day after Mouse's injury there are kinky sex scenes. That's too soon for me. Even though this is about pain kink and Mouse is really into it, but his back has been brutalized and emotionally it's nothing for him? He just brushes it off and Cal can't keep his hands off him ...

I was tempted to stop early, but I was hoping that maybe something would come along that would give the whole thing a positive spin. Unfortunately, the 90% mark came and I was so repulsed that I really struggled to read another sentence.

“Daddy, there will never be a time when you’re too much. You gave me everything I needed and more. Now make with the cuddles.”
Daddy pulled me against his chest, letting out a slow breath as he did.
“I want to give you everything. You make me feel things, Mitchell Johannsen. You make me want to unleash myself, to take and take, and that scares the fuck out of me.” There was a vulnerability in Cal’s voice I’d never heard before.
Oh, no. Daddy didn’t sound good. “Daddy, sit up. It sounds like you need to have some cuddles just as bad as I do.”

That reads quite nicely, doesn't it? It's actually wonderful to see the insecure side of Cal. BUT: this is right after Mouse hasn't really come out of his sub space yet. On an emotional level, that's really messed up, in my humble opinion. If it's meant to be a Dom drop, which it probably is, then it doesn't come across right. Maybe it would have been better told from Cal's perspective to really get his feelings across. It just doesn't fit for me.

Unfortunately, the remaining 10% were not for me either. There was one more dramatic scene (way too short and way too close to the end of the book), Mouse got hurt again (I think he already had enough to endure, it just wasn't necessary), one more kinky scene without good preparation and without good aftercare - too short, too little emotional depth ... I don't know. And the epilogue, no sorry, that didn't fit at all.

I'm not rating the book because I think I'm just too frustrated to be objective. I think it definitely deserves probably three stars, but I just can't right now.

I did not read any of the other books in this series. This is the first book I read and I really enjoyed the book. I did have some ugly tears come out when you learn what happened to the one of the main MC's.

Mouse has had a huge crush on Callum since he was a teenager. He figured he would grow out of the crush. He ends up in a tragic accident and he feels guilty for it all happening. He is living with Callum and Alice (Callum's daughter) while he figures out what he needs to do. He visit different clubs because of his brother & Callum however one night when he meets up with an ex, things don't go the way they should. He doesn't expect to be saved by anyone, but he gets saved by Callum.

Callum has put his own needs aside so that he can focus on raising his daughter and taking care of the business that he co-owns. He takes Mouse in so that way he doesn't have to struggle and he is so good with Alice. He is missing the dom and daddy side to his needs but he doesn't think he can have them until someone makes him take his blinders off. When he learns where Mouse went, he decides he will be the one to save him.

Mouse & Callum enter a new relationship and both of them understand that it isn't going to be easy. Callum is learning something new to him, he has never been a daddy before but he doesn't mind it. Mouse has never had a daddy and didn't realize it's what he needed. They both have things that they need to work on but most of all, they are there for each other.

This story was so good. Your emotions will come out but it's so worth the read. I love how things end up in the book and so glad that the story ended the way it did.

I received an ARC through GRR and this is my honest review.

This was a beautiful book, the story of Mouse, riddled with guilt over his mother’s death, and with a pain kink which he uses to punish himself for his guilt. He has longed for Cal, his brother’s best friend, for 12 years, and is now living with him and his daughter Alice after leaving his abusive ex. Mouse knows he needs a Daddy and wants Cal, but Mouse realizes it can’t be. When Mouse makes a poor choice one night, things are brought to a head, and Cal takes over as his Daddy and Dom, helping him to gain feelings of self-worth, realize he is deserving of love, and finally let go of his guilt.
The story of what led to Mouse’s crippling guilt, his downward spirals, and his search for pain to punish himself is heartbreaking to read.. he is so lost, he feels he’ll never find love or lose the guilt, until Cal and Alice give him hope. Alice is a bright spot in Mouse’s life, quite a precocious young lady, and Cal has years of experience as both a Daddy and a Dom, as well as having a good understanding of Mouse and what he needs, having known him his whole life. For such a heartbreaking past, with Cal and Alice there is hope and an uplifting feeling for Mouse and his future.
Readers should be sure to read the list of triggers, there are a lot, and at times it is a tough read, but I couldn’t put it down, and thought it was beautiful overall. I liked the book so well I have gotten the two previous books, also. I would recommend this book.
I received an ARC and this is my voluntary review.

I really enjoyed this fantastic addition to the Tewsbury Daddies series. Cal and Mouse are just as charming as Rhys and Simon, and I loved seeing them together. I actually got butterflies at the early stages of them getting together, which doesn't happen often, but whew. Cal was such a great Daddy, kind and nurturing along with being commanding and dominant. I liked that he was new to Daddy kink, and Mouse was just discovering his Middle side, and it was great to explore these things with them. I loved to see another Middle at large, as it were, it's not something I see too often but I really enjoy it. It's incredibly sweet but by no means fluffy, Mouse has a lot of hurt he's working through, but his support network and especially his Daddy are here to help him with that.

Although this book can absolutely be read as a standalone, it was great to get back to Tewsbury, set in the English countryside. The author has made a good effort to use appropriate language to reflect that, which I appreciate. It was fantastic to see Rhys and Simon again, and I'd love to reread Viking Ink sometime, and it was great to get to know Doc and some of the other characters a little better. I can't wait to see the others get their stories and am excited to read more by this emerging talent on the MM romance scene.

I loved this story about how Mouse and Callum finally saw that they were made for each other and that Callum was the perfect Daddy for middle Mouse. I enjoyed the drama of Mouse being rescued from trouble by Calum. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and a BDSM-like Daddy/middle dynamic.

This was a really fun read and I'm glad we finally got Mouse and Cal's story. It was nice to see Mouse finally process his mum's death properly after blaming himself for almost a decade, and going to therapy to talk through all of the issues which plague him. I think Mouse was super sassy, and while we've seen flashes of this in books 1 and 2, we really got a front row seat to the Mouse show in Imperfect Skin.

I think Cal and Mouse were really good together, and it was great to see Mouse embrace his Middle side as well as being a maso. However, after all the talk of the kinky things Mouse and Cal like and would like to do, I would've just liked to see a bit more of it between them once they'd settled into their relationship. I could've read another hundred pages or so about Mouse and Cal and I'd love to see another book about them, like we did with Simon and Rhys.

One personal gripe - the book is written in British English, and seeing words like "sneakers" and "parking lot" really throw me off, because they're most definitely not British English. I won't give this much credence, but it does sometimes interrupt my flow when reading.

Overall I really enjoyed Imperfect Skin, and I'm looking forward to the next instalment.

This is the third book in the Tewsbury Daddies series and you really should read them in order. This is the story of Mouse (Mitchell) and Callum. We have been reading about Mouse since book 1. He is the younger brother of Simon. Mouse has been through some tragedy. He blames himself for the accident and doesn't believe he deserves help or happiness. So he continues to seek out pain and suffering as he believes that he deserves only that. And while Mouse's best friend is a little, Mouse is a middle. Callum is the co-owner of Viking Ink. He and his best friend Simon own it together. Callum is a single parent and wouldn't mind being called a "Daddy" again for the right person. Callum and Mouse have been circling each other for years. When Mouse gets himself into a dangerous situation, Callum comes to his rescue. It is at this point that both their lives begin to change for the better. Mouse has been looking for a Daddy and a Dom and luckily enough, Callum is both. This is their story. It is an emotional journey but still has points of laughter and lightness. The book is well written and is easy to read. I enjoyed this book.

I received a complementary copy of this book from the author through GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.

"Imperfect skin" is book 3 in the series but you can read it as a standalone. I honestly don't think that I can find the right words to express how much this book owns my heart. Mouse was my favorite character since book one and I desperately wanted to read his story. This book had everything I love in a romance, all the tropes and micro tropes, beautiful writing, wonderful characters and great pacing. I couldn't stop reading it and at the same time I didn't want it to end. It's a 6/5 stars. A new all time favorite. A book that I know I will reread for comfort when I need to escape.
Mouse is such a deep and beautiful character. Broken but beautiful. I adore him and I loved reading his journey and see him grow and find happiness with Cal. And he's a really lovable brat.
Cal was great too, so caring and patient but at the same time strict. Exactly what Mouse needed. And every single time he called him "little mouse" I melted. It was such a fitting and cute nickname.
I loved their chemistry, I loved their dynamic, I loved their banter, I loved them.
I'm just happy this book exists.

I knew Mouse's story was going to be emotional but... wowsers...what a wallop. From page one, it has you crying your eyes out and never letting go of those heart strings. The story, the trauma, was written so beautifully that it had you feeling every emotion along with the characters, your heart shattering along with them and slowly being put back together. But there was no miracle cure, it continues to be a work in progress as it shall be.

Mouse has never recovered from the guilt of the trauma experienced at such a young age, finding ways to hurt himself to deal with the guilt. Until one night it goes too far, which opened up the door for Callum to step through. It also made Callum realize his true feelings and discover new things about himself. As they navigate the status of their new relationship, trying to discover what works for them, they also find safe healthy ways for Mouse to experience the pain he craves. Loved that Callum didn't make demands or had unexpected expectations, but also wasn't a pushover and stood firm when necessary, allowing Mouse to be and express his true self and desires.
Now I need Doc's book cause I bet he's gonna be a handful, lol.

4 Stars!

Mouse has been in love with Callum for a long time, but he never figured it would amount to anything, seeing as Cal is 20 years older than him and as messed up as Mouse is, why would Callum want to be with him? When Mouse puts himself in the way of danger (again), Rhys gives Callum the riot act and Callum goes to rescue Mouse setting things in motion for them to get together. They had amazing chemistry and they fit well in any capacity.

I was very glad Mouse was willing to work on his issues in a healthier way (finally!), and that even if Callum gave him the release he needed through BDSM, the author showed that he needed more than just that to heal from the trauma of his mom's death.

Overall, an enjoyable addition to the series. I had to skim through some parts which were too much for me, but I still found it to be a sweet, spicy, entertaining story with some angst that I have no trouble recommending.

Imperfect Skin by Myf Wren was so amazingly good. I loved Mouse and just wanted to wrap him in a hug. The scene at the club was hard to read and I would definitely heed tws. Callum was the perfect Daddy for Mouse. Mouse had been half in love with Callum since he was 16. Can I just say that I was so happy that their relationship did not start as a ‘temporary one’ or a ‘non-sexual one’. These two admitted their feelings and were all in. There was enough drama without having that one piece where they both agonized over the other person not feeling the same way. And these two were HOT. Blazingly hot. I adored both of them so much, and Alice was just the icing on the cake. What a precious little family they made. I am looking forward to the next story.

My favourite of the series so far. We didn't know much about Mouse, despite him being a well known character. I loved watching his character develop and figure out what he was really searching for and what he needed to help his mind and body heal. Cal was such a special soul, he was calm and patient and had such a special bond with Mouse. This book had me crying during the prologue and again in the epilogue, very poignant and heartfelt. A lot of heavy intimacy that felt special and private between the two men, lovers from the start, and a deep respect for one another. Lots of various kinks, especially pain play and I will mention fist ing because that is always a click buy for me. There are a few side characters that no doubt have a story in them, Doc's being the most obvious. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the third book in the Tewsbury Daddies series, but the first one I’ve read - though it certainly won’t be the last. Not really for the faint of heart, Mouse and Cal’s story is pretty riddled with angst. TW: death of a parent (on page) dom/sub, Little/Middle (no ABDL), cages, warming, past domestic abuse (not between MCs), twenty year age gap (though I struggled with that since the older MC is best friends with MC2’s brother), tattoos/piercings, and probably other stuff I forgot to write about. The whole first part is a cringy train wreck that you can absolutely see coming and can’t look away, and then everything after that is just hawt. Even though they’ve known each other for a long time, the overall feel is a little instalove, going from 0 to 90 pretty quickly but I like that that’s called out in the story.

Mouse gets his Daddy

Mouse is a character from the previous books in this series and it’s so nice seeing him get his happy ending (in a couple of ways nudge nudge). I felt so sorry for Mouse and him feeling like he is trying to find something to take his guilt away. Trouble is that he’s looking in the wrong direction. Luckily for him, and for us, along comes his brother’s best friend Callum. It was funny the way that Myf Wren wrote these two characters circling around each other not knowing that they both like the other. It’s a common trope to have the “friends sibling”, “boss” and other reasons why they can’t date but I enjoy this version of this type of story. The story brings up some interesting things about guilt, mental health and using a bad version of k1nk instead of getting help. Great addition to this series.

I’ve been enjoying this series, the characters are especially authentic and dimensional. Mouse was a highlight in the earlier books so I was happy to see him find his own happy ending. Mouse is buckling under the weight of his grief and guilt over his mother’s death, it painful to read but beautifully written. Cal is the perfect mix of sweet and authoritative, and I loved how well he understands what Mouse needed from their dynamic. I just loved how much healing Mouse finds and was definitely rooting for him to find a way forgive himself. Mouse, Cal, and Alice have a really satisfying HEA, looking forward to more stories set in this world.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

aw mouse

It was so nice to see mouse get his HEA. We you hold past trauma that it harms you, it’s nice to know you have someone in your corner. That was Cal. I loved this middle rep with a kid. It’s so far and few between so it was nice to read. Not everyone is a little and it was nice to read what a middle looks like. It was also nice that they actually had a life to live and how it was incorporated into their life, I wish we actually got to see more of how that worked because not all people who live this lifestyle or childless.

I loved their dynamic. How they talked. Communication is huge here and I was so glad they did it. The smexy was hawt. Mind your triggers with that especially the last smexy scene. Cant wait for others to get their HEA

Forgiveness, healing, love, and so much more!!!

I loved Mouse from the first book and was so excited for his story! I knew it would be gutting and emotional, and it is, but it's also intertwined with hope, forgiveness, and so much love your heart could explode.

Myf has created such dynamic and heartfelt characters that will just weave their way into your heart. I rooted for Mouse to succeed, forgive himself, work towards healing his guilt, and fight for the love he deserves with Cal and (Mighty) Mouse does all this and so much more!! I just loved this story, and the epilogue is so touching but also totally made me cry!

I love all these Daddies, and this found family so much! I'm looking forward to all the stories and more time with my favorites as Myf writes them!!

I think overall this book had a really great premise, but a bit poor execution. I think the pacing was super choppy and we kind of flew through the story with a ton happening in a very short period of time. I think revealing what Mouse was going through happened in quite a strange manner. It could’ve have been teased out a lot more and given the story more time to breathe. Once I got past the pretty choppy beginning, I do think the story flowed a bit better, however, I think we could’ve gotten a lot more from our characters. I’m curious if the author will write a part two for these characters like she did with the first book in the series. I am interested in more of this author’s writing and will definitely check out their books in the future.

Format: ARC
New author: No
Rep: Gay MCs, age play
Keywords: peas, car crash, age gap, bear, daddy/middle, S/M, best friends brother, single dad, BDSM

Imperfect skin is a sweet novel that follows perfectly along the line of the first two books in the series. As with the other two books, the romance is heartwarming, the scenes are on fire, and the representation of kink and consent is spectacular. Like Rhys, mouse is another character dealing with , unresolved trauma. And his character not only gets his romantic happily ever after, but does a great deal of healing and improving his mental health.

Mouse is Dom Callum's BF ( Simon's) little brother who is also a Middle. He likes pain and has been careless with who he lets inflict it. Callum offers to be his Dom to safely give him what he needs. It's a tearjerker with angst, misplaced guilt and sweet love but also spicy with maso, spankings and age play. Mouse's friends and family rally round to help him heal and move on with life. Cal and his daughter are perfect for Mouse. This fictional corner of the world has such a supportive community for those that need it and Mouse is a prime example. I received a copy of this through Gay Romance Reviews and this is my voluntary opinion.

This book was good but at times I felt myself drifting. I found myself getting a little bored with the story. It might just be a me thing though. I was really surprised to know that Cal truly hadn’t thought of Mouse in a romantic way till now. I thought maybe he felt something but just chose not to act on it. I know later on in the book he states that he’s probably felt something deep down but denied those feelings but the way those two acted in the previous two books I thought the feelings were very obvious. I’m excited about the other characters, especially Doc.
