This book has been specifically designed and written for people who have been suffering with bowel inflammation or diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease, also known as IBD, Crohn’s disease (a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestines), Ulcerative colitis or Diverticulitis and advised to follow a Low Residue Diet (Low Fiber Diet). It is extremely important to eat the right food types and diet during this course to ease the discomfort caused.
Let’s take a closer look on what this book has to
What you eat and drink can drastically ease the symptoms of IBD, Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative colitis or Diverticulitis. Some foods are better for you than others. Cooking and preparing your food from scratch and fresh at home can help you eat healthier and with less fiber. To help control your fiber intake you will need to avoid high fiber foods, stringy foods and foods with skins and seeds. If you are not sure whether a food is safe to eat, then do not eat it. The book will help you in achieving these goals by providing accurate nutritional values for each recipe.
Oh my god, thank you for writing this, having had a huge opportunity I was put on low residue diet! It's the worst diet ever for a fitness instructor! But this book will help me through!
The idea behind this book is that "low residue" food are easier to digest and exit the system without causing blockages. Though in general a high fiber diet is suggested (even in the intro to this book) there are some medical conditions where this type of diet is recommended temporarily. This book lays out the basics and the "how" and even has handy charts of foods that are allowed vs foods to avoid. The Main Dish recipes are broken into sections based on the protein: Chicken, Pork, Lamb, Beef, Turkey, Seafood, and eggs. Side dishes: rice, breads, veggies. And there are also beverages and desserts sections. And each recipe has the nutritional facts with it. Very helpful.
Recipes easy to follow BUT I assume for U.S audiences as some ingredients not available in the UK. Very limited veggie or vegan meals...most are without any protein substitute and fat content can be too high.
I was hoping for some new recipe ideas, but no. I was also surprised to see 2 cauliflower recipes in here. All of the medical sites I’ve looked at have said we can’t have cauliflower on a low residue diet.
