The first rule of fake dating? Never fall for your pretend boyfriend. But no one ever warned me about falling for his best friend.
Alex Green has spent the last three years rebuilding her life from scratch. Sure, her job is hell, and her boss is Satan incarnate, but that’s a small price to pay for a fresh start. She’s content living her life within her perfectly drawn confines, unwilling to let anyone get too close.
But when popular movie star, Adam Rice, comes to her small town, Alex finds herself in a situation she never could’ve imagined. At first, it seems like pretending to be Adam’s girlfriend will solve all of their problems. He gets the press off his back, while she gets the benefits of being in a relationship without any messy feelings.
The only downside?
Adam’s best friend- Cole.
Cole Campbell has no problem watching the world from a distance. After dealing with a rocky few years, he’s content to stand on the sidelines of his best friend’s booming acting career. But when they travel to the opposite side of the country to film Adam’s latest movie, Cole expects things to continue as they have. At least, until he meets Alex, and for the first time in a long time, he finds himself wanting someone, even if she’s the last person he should have feelings for.
When annoyance turns to attraction, Alex and Cole find themselves drawn to each other. Feelings and loyalties get questioned, and they both have to decide if love is worth the risk, even if it comes at the most unexpected time.
So I’m a little biased, because this is my book, but I am incredibly in love with how this story turned out. I hope everyone who reads feels the love between Alex and Cole, as well as the little town of Saint Stephen’s Lake. Happy reading 🩵
Literally just binged [Un]Expected by @kaybrookswrites , and it completely blew me away! This story offers more than just a love triangle; it dives deep into personal growth, vulnerability, and how love can completely shift our priorities. Alex’s character development is incredibly relatable—she’s strong, independent, but with walls built up from her past.
Her dynamic with Adam, the movie star, feels exciting, but the real spark lies in her interactions with Cole, his best friend. The slow-burn romance is so well-executed that I found myself rooting for every heartfelt and awkward moment they shared.
The novel is packed with witty banter, emotional moments, and beautifully written romantic tension. What makes this story stand out is how K.C. Brooks gives space for both main and supporting characters to evolve, making the stakes feel even higher. The pacing is perfect; just when you think you know where it’s headed, Brooks throws in twists that keep you flipping pages well into the night.
The small-town setting adds a cozy, intimate vibe, contrasting perfectly with the high drama of fake dating a celebrity. It’s the kind of book that will have you laughing, swooning, and maybe even tearing up by the end. If you’re a fan of complex characters, slow-burn romance, and stories that mix heartfelt emotion with light-hearted moments, this is an absolute 5-star must-read!
Point me the way to Saint Stephen Lake, I would love to move there. I love a small town on the lake! Alex Green is starting over there. Her life turns interesting as a movie is filmed in her new picturesque town. Agreeing to be a pretend girlfriend of a Hollywood movie star, is the beginning of what becomes a plethora of lies. On top of that, what if someone catches feelings?
I love this debut by K.C. Brooks, an easy to read, well developed story, some unexpected complications, and plenty of chemistry. I am looking forward to more great stories in the future from this author.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Tropes/themes 🌻 small town romance 🌻 fake dating 🌻 dislike to lovers 🌻 found family 🌻 dual POV 🌻 touch her and die vibes
(Un)Expected by K.C Brooks was her debut novel and she knocked it out of the park. I had the honor of receiving an arc copy of this book. Once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down. This book takes you on a journey of tension, banter and love between Alex and Cole.
This is a fun fake dating romance with a twist, between Alex and Adam, who is a famous actor in town shooting a movie. It’s your typical famous guy who needs to smooth over his image after a break up and bad publicity, so Alex agrees to help him out and be his fake girlfriend until the movie shoot is over. A friendship has formed between Alex and Adam, but the connection is between Alex and Cole (Adam’s best friend). Sparks are flying and everyone can see them except for Alex and Cole.
Alex and Cole have both been through a lot in their pasts, while their pasts are behind them they can’t seem to get the closure to move on from them. Alex is a guarded, loving, and loyal woman who has erected a huge wall up around her heart. She’s insecure from a past relationship and is afraid to let anyone in, to let anyone love her and open her heart to love someone else. Cole is an military veteran who was medically discharged and made some not so great choices after coming back when he felt lost. He’s your grumpy MMC who has a heart of gold and will do anything in his power to protect the people he loves, but also doesn’t believe he is good enough or deserving enough for the girl.
I loved watching the love blossom between Cole and Alex, but with both of them having baggage and feeling they aren’t good enough for the other person it takes awhile for them to realize what is right in front of them. Together Cole and Alex work on bringing down their walls and letting the other one in and talking about their pasts. They help each other heal from their pasts. The emotion and love was raw and real and I felt like I was in the story with them. The romance wasn’t forced or rushed, the love wasn’t fake or phony. The banter between Cole and Alex was on fire. And the chemistry was “chef’s kiss”. I couldn’t get enough of this book, of Cole and Alex. The supporting characters were just as amazing, Calla and Javier who are Alex’s best friends are the best friends anyone could ask for.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series. K.C Brooks is now one of my auto-buy authors. Please read trigger warnings mentions of domestic abuse
I was excited to be able to get my hands on this! I was lucky to receive this as an ARC and I will give an honest review for it.
Sadly, it was not for me, I'm not saying that there were parts of it that I didn't like because I did. This doesn't mean others wont like it. If the blurb grabs your attention, give this book a try.
That being said it was a nice story that gave us Cole and Alex, both MC's overcoming a lot from their past. I wished that we knew what they were going through when we had met them as a reader and not kept in the dark as well. This could be a me thing, I was kind of turned off by all the swearing coming from Alex and other things that could be a regional thing that I personally couldn't get over.
There were parts that felt very instant and fast when Cole and Alex stopped fighting what they were feeling. What we got in the last few chapters I really liked, that was what I was wanting. Overall it was nice.

"The first rule of fake dating? Never fall for your pretend boyfriend. But no one warned me about falling for his best friend"
I won this book in a giveaway a while ago and I definitely should have read it sooner! It's not your typical fake dating trope. Alex works at a hotel in a small town after escaping her previous life. She agrees to fake date a movie star and then his best friend, Cole gets involved. He's had a tough life too and him and Alex don't start off on the right foot. The relationships that follow are entertaining, romantic, and exciting to see develop.
I really enjoyed this book. It had me frustrated, happy, and in tears by the end. It's a romance that makes you feel all of your emotions and that's my favorite kind of romance. I promise you'll fall in love with Cole and Alex like I did.
This book was SO CUTE! I laughed so much, said aww probably 500 times and even teared up in some parts.
I really resonated with Alex; her strength, independence, and feisty nature. Adam: total sweetheart. Cole was absolute perfection (maybe because I have a gruff veteran for a husband so I just loved his character so much).
I read this because I received an ARC for (un)planned, and while they are interconnected standalones, after reading some of the reviews I thought I should read this one first and I am SO glad I did! This was a very well written, and adorable read.
Cole and Alex have my whole heart, and I am so excited that their story is out for the world to see, read, and enjoy! I received an ARC, and my word: I was spoiled!
Small Town romance? Check. Fake Dating? Check. Dislike to Lovers? Check. He Falls First? Check! 😍
Now let me tell you about this fake dating: it's a unique twist on the trope. Instead of falling for the guy she's fake dating, she falls for his best friend! Gah! It's so clever, and such a nice spin to the plot.
Speaking of which, don't feel sorry for Adam Rice, the guy she fake dates. They both agree they weren't compatible... and I have it on good authority that he'll find someone perfect. Unfortunately, it's not me... a girl can dream though. Lol
If you love contemporary romances from authors like Elsie Silver and Devney Perry, give this book a shot!
I enjoyed this book. I actually dived in because I received an ARC of the next book in the series, (Un)Planned, and my slightly OCD self is incapable of reading an interconnected standalone without having read the prior books of the series.
Anyways, this was a fun concept for a plot, a fake dating trope with a twist. I'll be honest, this book took me a minute to get through compared to my normal reading speed. Admittedly, I was busy during the time I read this but if I'm into a book, I'll sneak in a chapter or sacrifice sleep when I can to get more reading time in and this book didn't pull me to do that until the last probably 25% or so of the book. I think part of my hang up was that it felt like it took awhile to get to know Cole and Alex. Their histories are just so clouded in mystery for the first probably 65% of the book. You can certainly guess what their pasts are based on context clues but, without knowing, it's hard to connect with them. In fact, I have a note in Chapter 25, page 218 that says "Okay, we've clouded over this enough. Generally speaking, I Can guess what happened but, fore Pete's sake, just tell us the whole story already!"
So, anyways, moving on from that hang-up of mine. As for the MCs, I enjoyed Cole. I definitely preferred him to Alex, not necessarily because of things Cole did to make me like him but things Alex did to make me like her less.
The writing flowed pretty well. I did feel like it was a little long. The first 75% could have been trimmed up OR more of the drama from the last 25% could have been pulled into the book earlier to spread the drama love.
Obviously I'll be reading the next installment because, as I mentioned, I have an ARC to review. I don't know that I'd circle back someday to reread this but I did enjoy it for what it was.
I was on a journey with this one; it started off really strong, meandered for a bit in the middle but then the plane sort of righted itself towards the end.
Alex and Cole. She runs away from a dark past, finds shelter in Saint Stephen's Lake & sets up a new life, running the concierge desk at the local resort. Cole is best friend's with Adam, super high profile movie star who is in town to film his latest movie. Adam & Alex try something but the chemistry isn't there, so they agree to be friends and his agent convinces them to "fake date" to help repair Adam's image. Cole and Alex are fighting feelings for each other - for a number of reasons - but we all know the power of the romance book attraction, it WILL overcome all attempts to stop it.
So this book started of so strong for me. You know that feeling when you're about 10% in, you're just HOOKED and silently celebrating your new favorite author. I loved the mystery behind Alex's background, I loved how the author built a small town feel and setting the scene. Alex is a strong, snarky, independent FMC. So good, so far. Even the Alex & Adam situation, that had me wondering if he had any chance of becoming THE ONE ... it kept me on edge.
The slide started when Cole & Alex started exploring what was between them. The story just didn't feel tight and as engaging in the middle section. There was stuff going on, I didn't particularly remember a lot of it. Alex herself admits it feels whiplash with Cole. Then there's the "continuing to fake-date Adam after acknowledging feelings for Cole", complicated by "Cole not coming clean to Adam about how he feels about Alex" situation as well. I felt like I needed to go back & clarify - and I didn't have the energy to.
The last 20% got its act together. There's a dark & dangerous past that reappears + DV themes explored. Cole gets all "touch her & die" about Alex - it's endearing. Alex makes some bold moves and faces up to her past & present. Then it feels like we're back on solid ground because Cole proves he's a mature man and sorts his feelings about Alex openly - and they're squarely back in HEA territory.
I do really like her writing and I've heard good things about this series. So while this one wasn't totally for me, I'm going to forge ahead with #2 .....
This novel caught me completely off guard, but in the best way possible. A debut novel with this level of depth, amount of layers that seamlessly flowed and peeled back throughout the book, and the instant connection the reader creates with the characters, is a sign that KC Brooks is an author to keep your eye on. I didn't read the blurb on this book before I started to read, so as I made my way through the first couple chapters, I thought I had this book figured out. Small town girl, big city movie star, they fall for each other, and live happily ever after. Instead when I saw the name of the second POV, it was, to say the least, unexpected. Alex and Cole are everything in this book! Their meeting is filled with annoyance and icy stares. But it doesn't take long for them to start falling, however they each think they aren't good enough for the other. Alex is someone I would love to call a friend. Her loyalty is fierce and her heart is huge. I want to be the friend who texts her every morning reminding her of just how fearless, loving, and brave she is. Cole carries so much weight on his shoulders, scared that he is going to fall into the icy depths again, unsure of how he'll survive. Between the two of them, there is a lot of baggage and lack of self forgiveness, but together, they are just what the other needed. They are able to see past the shattered, broken people; instead drawing out the best versions of each other. They are each others safe place and biggest fans. They see each other how their friends already view them, helping one another to believe that perspective for themselves. With their love for each other blazing as brightly as it does, they are able to break down walls, allow for self forgiveness, and the start of putting their lives together exactly how they want. This book is full of big emotions, swoon worthy moments, tearful admissions, and heart gushing realizations. KC Brooks shines as an author and I cannot wait to read other works by her.
As always review trigger warnings before reading this book.

When I saw the tropes for this story, I immediately signed up for it. Fake dating a celebrity but falling for his grumpy best friend? I mean, seriously, what’s not to love about that?
Alex has been living in Saint Stephen’s Lake for the last three years after escaping her life in New York. Working at a hotel for what can only be described as a she-devil of a boss, Alex finds herself at a crossroads, thinking about what she wants to do with her life. Enter Adam and Cole. Adam is an actor in town to film a movie, and Cole is his best friend who, let’s say, doesn’t exactly make the greatest first impression on Alex. Honestly, the banter and barbs swapped between Cole and Alex had me chuckling, she wasn’t afraid to hand his arse to him when he was being a dick, and I loved this about her character.
Both Cole and Alex are trying to escape the hold that their pasts have on them, and I loved that they’d found comfort in one another. There was a fair amount of angst in this story however it was pivotal to the overall storyline for Cole and Alex. The amount of comfort these two found in one another was so heartwarming, and I loved seeing them eventually bring their walls down.
An impressive debut, I loved this introduction to these characters and the town of Saint Stephen’s Lake. I’m now sat here patiently waiting for Theo and Calla’s story.

"(Un)expected" by K.C. Brooks is a captivating romantic novel that explores the complexities of fake dating and unexpected love. The story follows Alex Green, a woman who has spent years rebuilding her life after facing hardships. When she agrees to pretend to be the girlfriend of popular movie star Adam Rice, she finds herself entangled in a web of lies and emotions she never anticipated.
Initially, the arrangement seems like a win-win situation for both Alex and Adam. Alex gains the perks of being in a relationship without the messiness of real feelings, while Adam gets relief from the prying eyes of the press. However, complications arise when Alex meets Cole Campbell, Adam's best friend, and finds herself drawn to him in ways she never expected.
Cole, who has been content with keeping his distance from the limelight, is surprised to find himself attracted to Alex. As their connection deepens, they are forced to confront their feelings and the loyalty they owe to Adam.
K.C. Brooks skillfully navigates the dynamics of fake dating, friendship, and unexpected romance, weaving together a story filled with humor, heart, and steamy chemistry. The characters are well-developed and relatable, each grappling with their own insecurities and desires.
As Alex and Cole's relationship evolves, they are forced to confront their fears and make difficult choices about what truly matters to them. The novel explores themes of trust, loyalty, and the courage to follow one's heart, even in the face of uncertainty.
"(Un)expected" is a delightful read for fans of contemporary romance, offering a perfect blend of swoon-worthy moments and emotional depth. With its engaging plot and lovable characters, this novel is sure to leave readers eagerly turning pages until the very end.
(Un)Expected is an incredibly sweet read. Although it's a romance at heart, a large part of the book focuses on friendship. The friendship of the main character Alex and her 'fake love interest' Adam was a huge part, but it also covered the friendships between the main characters and their best friends, giving a sense of importance to found family rather than actual family.
Although Alex agrees to fake date movie star Adam, it's his best friend Cole she's actually interested in, and the tension between the two of them in the early days is palpable. They both fought their feelings and with it came a reasonable amount of push and pull and snark. They both have suffered trauma, although we aren't aware of the details until much later, and it's their past that has them keeping their walls erected high and pushing each other away. Watching them open up and let each other in was wonderful to witness, and they made a great couple. Fiercely loyal, protective, and outspoken, Alex tends to say exactly how she feels—cuss words included.
When they both explained their pasts to each other, I was surprised by what Alex had fled from; I had assumed it was a cheating ex. However, the book broaches the topic of domestic violence, and although a difficult topic to read about, I felt the author did it justice, showing the growth Alex had made and the strength she now has to deal with her demons—not just talking about them but in person too, as her paths cross with the man who hurt her.
Alex isn't the only one we see stand up to bullies in this book; as a side character, Calla also stands up to her mother, who plays a bad guy throughout the book. I enjoyed the small moments that characters like Calla and Javier and even Theo and Adam brought to the book, but I would love to explore Calla some more in a book of her own.
WOW What a great read. This is the first time I have read K.C Brooks and I thoroughly enjoyed myself reading it. I have to say I honestly was apprehensive about reading it because I don't really like Love triangles they frustrate me.But this story was different because it wasn't the love triangle where the female character falls for two men. Because Alex only has eyes for one man even though she is fake dating the other man. Alex is starting a new life in the small town of Saint Stephen's lake and finds herself getting invovled with movie star Alex.I don't mean involved were they are falling in love they make an arrangement to benefit them both,Alex agrees to be Adams fake girlfriend so he can restore his reputation. Everything seems to be going smoothly until Cole comes into the picture. Cole is Adams best friend and is about to create a problem for Alex, because she finds herself drawn to Cole in an entirely unexpected way. Initially they exchange a few jibes with eachother and their first encounter isn't a good one,but as time goes by Cole and Alex find themselves falling in love with eachother.Which unfortunately tests their loyalty to Adam and how to manuever what to do about it all, This is such a wonderful story that had me intrigued and engaged with the story throughout I had to know what would happen with this complicated situation these characters were in. I liked K.C Brooks's writing and the premise of the book. Amusing, sweet, romantic, steamy and emotional this is a fabulous slow burn, dislike to lovers romance that I really loved reading. Brilliant. 5 Stars.

This was a really fun fake dating story with an unexpected twist - Alex makes a deal with famous Hollywood actor Adam to pretend to date in an effort to help his reputation, but she ends up with feelings for Adam's best friend, Cole. For his part, Cole feels the same way, magnetically drawn to Alex, but in both cases, they don't want to betray their friend, so they pretend there's nothing there.
I enjoyed reading this story, and found it emotional at times, and funny at others. There was plenty of tension between the characters, which made for a nice, long, slow burn. There was spice, but it wasn't overdone, and there are allusions to side characters and possible future relationships that may become books down the line. At one point, I was basically biting my nails, desperate to know what was going to happen, and at another, I was snorting to myself from all the snarky banter. It hooked me right from the start, and I finished it in one day.
It was sweet to watch Alex and Cole fall together, and to witness each of them opening up and finding the way forward together. I loved how loyal they both were to their friend Adam, and how much they all cared about one another. Next time I go mini-golfing, I will be thinking about Alex and Cole and their devious tactics to see who would come out on top.
If you like a romance with fake dating, enemies to lovers, dark pasts, found family, small town, and touch-her-and-d!e vibes, then look no further, because this is exactly what you're looking for.
Thank you kindly to the author, and to The Author Agency for my gifted copy. I am voluntarily writing and sharing this review.
This book was a cute and easy read, however, it did deal with some heavy topics.
I, unfortunately, struggled to finish this story. I just could not connect with the characters. Both Alex and Cole’s pasts were treated with such mystery. Each character kept making ominous references to these terrible things that had happened, but never really gave us any good detail - even though both their traumas were so blatantly obvious. I do not understand why their experiences were kept secret from the reader, when knowing the full history would have helped us connect with the characters.
The “fake dating” is this book also fell short. We get one great scene (mini-golf double date) and that’s it. Other than that, I didn’t feel that the agreement Alex and Adam entered into really had any effect on Alex and Cole’s relationship. Mainly because they both decided to sneak around right from the get go, so the “forbidden” aspect was barely a blip on the radar. Their relationship also moved very quickly.
We did have some drama at the end with Alex’s ex that could be triggering. I am happy Alex was able to finally get some justice for herself and was also able to protect her friends. We also had some random drama with the owner of the resort Alex worked at, but I guess it had been a long time coming as Alex always clashed with her. This drama also helped set up the second book, which is Calla’s story.
One of the things I found super cringey was that Cole referred to his sponsor as his "favorite girl." That really rubbed me the wrong way for some reason.
Overall this was not a terrible read, I just could not get into the story.
I'm so glad I read this debut book by KC Brooks, and can't wait to see what she has in store for us next. (Un)Expected was such a heartwarming story of starting over while fighting demons from the past. When you add in finding love unexpectedly, your heart will pitter patter until the very end.
I loved that this story veered from the typical fake dating trope where they fall madly in love and live happily ever after. Instead, Alex and Cole (Adam's best friend) find themselves instantly attracted to one another but neither act on it. Alex out of loyalty to Adam, after they agree that they're better as friends, but sign a fake dating agreement while he's in town filming a movie. Cole, again out of loyalty to Adam because they're been best friends forever, and Adam stood by his side through his darkest time.
Little did they know, Adam picked up on their feelings and attraction for one another even before they were ready to admit it to themselves. When Alex finds herself confronted by her past, and what led her to Saint Stephen's Lake, Cole rushes to her side and saves her. Once they both open up about their past and their struggles, they quickly decide that together is where they want to be, and where they are better versions of themselves.
Alex and Cole's chemistry and genuine, unconditional love for each other was off the charts. I was so happy to see them work together towards her dreams that ultimately became theirs. The epilogue was beautiful and I hope to see more of this couple in future books.
Tropes: 👉 Small Town 👉 Dislike to Lovers 👉 He Falls First
TWs 😟: violence, history of alcoholism
Main Takeaway 🏹: A fake dating romance with a twist
Synopsis 📜: Alex works at a resort in her town that is now hosting the cast of a movie filming in her town. Her horrible boss punishes her by assigning her to be the star of the movie’s personal attendant, catering to all of his needs. As they get to know each other and become friends, Alex agrees to help Adam by agreeing to be his fake girlfriend for the duration of the filming process, but finds herself more drawn to his best friend, Cole.
Personal Thoughts 🤔: I have read many fake dating trope books but never one with this kind of twist, with Alex falling for Adam’s best friend instead of the one she is fake dating. It was such a fun, new microtrope to fall into. Alex and Cole both have heavy pasts that they don’t like to share with others and these both come out as the book progresses in a way that doesn’t feel forced or out of touch with the plot. The angst both main characters feel as they try to fight their feelings and then try to hide what they truly are to each other from Adam and the rest of their friends was perfectly executed and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Recommendation ✔️❌: Absolutely, everyone who likes these tropes should read this book!
Alexandria has rebuilt her life away from the city and she is complacent. Adam and his movie crew show up in her new hometown and Adam goes on a date with Alex. They both agree to be friends and didn’t feel a spark. However, pictures of them show up and Adam needs to stay in positive light so they agree to fake date. Which works. Except Alex finds herself having feelings for Adam’s best friend Cole.
I was initially worried when I read the blurb for this when it hinted that Alexandria was going to fake date Adam but she had feelings for Cole that it would lead to a love triangle or cheating. And those are 99% of the time not for me. However, after 1 date Adam and Alex realize they are better off as friends.
I loved watching Cole realize how much he had messed up and then working to get Alex back. Alex was so strong for starting over. Her strength to tell Cole that she didn’t trust him after she had tried more than once was heartbreaking and yet so honest. Both Alex and Cole had some healing that needed to happen. With each other, that healing happened.
I really hope this becomes a series because this was such an enjoyable read for me. Definitely on the sweeter side but just really well done.

This storyline was definitely (Un)Expected, in the best way! Small Town & Fake Dating - YES Please!
Alex Green ran away from her life in New York to start over in a sweet beach town call Saint Stephen’s Lake. She works as a concierge at an upscale hotel on the lake. There is a Hollywood filming in town and the star of the film - Adam Rice is staying at her hotel.
Alex agrees to pretend to be Adam’s girlfriend until the end of filming. It seemed like a win-win - Alex would get to spend time with Adam and make some money in the process, while Adam’s reputation wouldn’t be further tarnished after a bad breakup with a songwriter that blasted him in her latest album.
Enter Cole Campbell - Adam’s best friend. In their initial meeting Cole and Alex had some pretty nasty words for each other. However, they both find that they’re falling for the other, (Un)Expectedly (did you see what I did there?).
I don’t think I have a single negative thing to say about this story, except the it wasn’t long enough. I want so much much Alex and Cole!
Thank you to K.C. Brooks & The Author Agency for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Wow this book was a great read the book starts out with kinda a mystery as you meet Alex and find her in a small town and starting over from her life before but that’s it. Then jumping into the future she’s working at a hotel in this small town and comes face to face with a handsome movie star there to film. When she agrees to help him out by being his fake girlfriend nothing could go wrong right?!? Well she definitely did plan to be attracted to his best friend. Past traumas, suspense, and sweet moments fill this dynamic story. Cole is a military veteran with a dark and troubled backstory. But meeting Alex sparks ⚡️ life back into him and he is in new and uncharted waters and he tries to fight it due to her dating his best friend. But the chemistry, competition nature, and witty banter has him as a goner! This story will definitely have you swooning and gripping your chair for what happens next.
I cannot wait for the next book Unplanned to come out and see what’s next for the supporting characters of this story.

Tropes: 💙 Dislike to lovers 💙 Found family 💙 Small town romance 💙 Best friends fake girlfriend 💙 He falls first 💙 Slowburn
Un(Expected) by K.C. Brooks is a contemporary romance that blends the “fake dating” trope with a small-town setting and an unexpected love triangle. Alex, the protagonist, starts fake dating a movie star, Adam, to solve both of their problems. However, the real tension builds when she starts developing feelings for his best friend, Cole. This book focuses on themes of second chances, healing from past trauma, and the complex dynamics of love and friendship, making it an engaging and emotional read for romance fans.
This book was so cute, it played in my mind as a Hallmark movie as I read it. I equally hated Nate and Diane! Diane sounds like the worst person in the entire world. I can’t wait to start reading the next book in the series. I definitely recommend this is you like small town romances.
TWs: ⚠️ Sexually Explict Situations ⚠️ Verbal and Physical Abuse (past) ⚠️ Alcohol Abuse (past) ⚠️ Mention of Military based violence
K.C.B rocked with this new small town romance. From the first page to the last, y’all will be entranced with not only Alex and Cole, but the entire town of Saint Stephen’s Lake. The found family of this book is something that shines and I really enjoy it especially in the small town setting.
Alex and Cole are broken beings due to the circumstances that they have faced in life. It was so fresh to see that both of them are flawed and you can see how they made the decisions but they finally get out of the way and together. Alex has my heart and the way Cole becomes a safe space and proves how much he was on her side. I want a Cole!
The other characters shined as well and Adam has my whole heart and there are so many more characters that captured my interest and hopefully we get more off!. This book was a wonderfully emotional book and not one to miss.
Catch this amazing book on March 14th on Kindle and KU!
Thank you to @kaybrookswrites for an eARC of the book!
This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. Alex, FMC, went through something traumatic which had her pack two bags and leave everything else behind and leave the situation. She ends up at Saint Stephen's Lake and it's where she settles down to stay.
Fast forward a few years and Alex is working at a hotel and they are having some VIPs staying there while filming a movie. Cole, MMC, is Adam Rice the actor's best friend. Cole is jet lagged and in a bad mood and takes it out on Alex, but Alex doesn't take it and gives it right back.
Cole and Alex enjoy getting under each other's skin and can feel the chemistry but Alex agrees to fake date Adam. As the book goes on you can see that Alex and Cole both have a troubled past seem drawn to each other. You need to read this book because it's really good and you will want to find out what happens. Love the friendship with Alex and Calla and also Adam and Cole. Hoping a book with the other characters in this book, Calla, Theo, and Adam and they each get a HEA. Thank you K.C. Brooks for writing this book.
As the title states, this book was unexpected! I really enjoyed this story and was initially surprised at the love interest!
This book delivers on some of the most fun tropes dislike to lovers fake dating 1st person, dual POV no third act breakup small town romance slow burn found family
Alex works at a hotel in her small town, where she landed after fleeing New York. Adam (famous movie star) rolls into town with his best friend Cole who is not overly charismatic. Adam and Alex enter into a fake dating agreement to help rebuild his image. Complications in their agreement arise when Alex and Cole find themselves drawn to the other.
I really enjoyed the depth of emotions this story brought, while including the fun spicy scenes we all enjoy. The characters brought a level of maturity while also showing a more vulnerable side exploring pasts and how they could move forward into the present.
K.C. Brooks, outstanding and a DEBUT novel?! I can't WAIT to read more.
