Please note this is a completely revised version of The Jameson Cabin.
Finally the right guy. The happy newlyweds. The perfect honeymoon. TOTAL NIGHTMARE!
look over at my fiancé — Oops! Husband now. He smiles. This is the grin I wake up to in the morning — like I am the very thing he’s been looking forward to.
It’s only been eighteen months. A whirlwind romance, I know, but he is the one for me. I knew it the day I met him. As corny as that sounds, my parents were the same way.
We’re going to my new husband’s quiet little cabin in the woods for our honeymoon. He’s told me so much about it and this is the first time I’ll be seeing it in person.
The last thing I expected was to start flirting with a guy in a gas station on our way there. But let’s face it, I’m not the perfect bride. In fact, I’m the worst.
And now the guy is at the cabin door.
He wants to tell me something about my husband. Something very bad.
The perfect honeymoon is about to become a total nightmare.
I'm Kaelin Wennerberg, I was born and raised in a small town in Montana, US. Since a very young age, I have dreamed of being an author. I started my debut novel "The Jameson Cabin" when I was 22 and having a full-time job it took me four years to write and have my novel edited. What you're reading is the work of my dark thoughts and growing up in small town with nothing to do but drive aimlessly around. I am a huge fan of horror/suspense novels and films. My favorites include "The Shining" by Stephen King and "American Psycho" by Bret Easton Ellis. Recently my favorite read was "The Troop" by Nick Cutter.
This is a very dark read. I definitely enjoyed the first half more than the second. It’s hard to explain without spoilers what this book is even about except for the fact that a couple of newlyweds are spending their honeymoon in a remote cabin in the Woods of New Hampshire.
Live free or die!
There’s a lot of free living in this book, but I think that the protagonists take it a little bit too far and that’s putting it mildly!
OK I have to say
SPOILERS
This book kind of reminded me of a darker and more sociopathic version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith and that film was pretty sociopathic!
The fact is, although I really enjoyed reading this , the violence in the second half was just too much for me. I’m still giving it a good rating because I think this writer is just so talented and it’s impossible not to be a little admiring. I think if one doesn’t have a problem with blood and gore this is an easy five stars but I’m someone who just can’t handle that. I mean I really get queasy and it seems like I’ve been reading a lot of violent books lately!
So the first half for me was five stars and the second half was two stars so I rounded it off to three stars. I wonder if there will be a part two.
Anyway, this book is sociopath against sociopath. You kind of have to throw reality out the window a little bit, but it really does involve you and make you wonder just who is going to come out alive in this one if anyone.
There is not any likable characters in this at all. But you won’t necessarily know that at the beginning. It was also fun to read a suspense novel that takes place in New Hampshire, a beautiful state that I don’t see enough stories taking place in.
I would say this book is predictable, and it mostly is, except for the parts that don't make sense at all. Those parts are baffling and add to the general wtf-ness of the story. The characters, though meant to be full of surprises, are boring and one-dimensional. I'm not actually sure if I was supposed to like any of them. (I didn't.)
Many of the word choices were extremely strange, like the author wanted to use a big word but didn't know one that worked so she took a took a swing anyway. They were close, but not quite there. "Amiss" is not a fancy way to say "missing", for example. A few times could be forgiven, but it happened so often on top of the utter absurdity of the story that it was all the more glaring.
I really can't recommend this one, unfortunately. Perhaps the author's later works are more polished.
Close to one of the worst books I've ever read (or tried to read). I should have stopped after a few chapters but kept going hoping it would suddenly get better, It didn't, and I gave up halfway through. Gross characters. Stupid storyline and bad grammar.
I don’t want to give a rating because this is 100% not my type of book. Book club pick, based on the author being ‘from here’. Really clunky grammar, it needs a hard edit. Several repeated details throughout(she took off her gloves, and then a page and a half later she took off her gloves.) Incredibly unlikeable characters. There was not a single redeeming quality about any character in the entire book. I skimmed the last 60% of the book because it was all the same. Sex, gore, murder. And repeat. Even the language describing any romance or sex was gross. Could’ve lived my life without any of that ever crossing my brain. I guess some people are into that but I am not.
Goodness gracious!!! This was a very intense book to read — but I couldn’t put it down. It was a bit more bloody than other books I have read as well. Nonetheless, I did enjoy reading the book.
it held my interest. But is was it was a rediculous book. It was not an enjoyable book. Crazy people are not to my liking. What they did to each other was crazy.
The sociopaths in this story are amazing. I never guessed Yoni would be one. And Sunney what a character he was. Kaolin you did a wonderful job with novel. It was hard to put down to go to b d Thank you!
I couldn’t put this book down. Who is more psychotic you don’t know really til the end. Kept going back and forth As to who was more crazy Good fast read
This was thrilling and suspenseful but also bizarrely vulgar and disturbing. It got to be pretty repetitive as well. 🚨 domestic violence and abuse, alcohol + drug abuse, suicide.
I think this is the first book review I’ve ever (voluntarily) written, which is a testament as to how truly awful this book is. I didn’t read the reviews before, and that’s on me, but if you see this before you start, DON’T. Don’t be the person who is intrigued by all the reviews and has to see for themselves if the 1-star reviewers are overexaggerating. They are not. You will hate yourself for wasting your time. The plot is ridiculous, all of the characters are unlikable, the editing is terrible. I legitimately cannot think of a single positive thing to say about this book.
So I had very high hopes for this book. I honestly thought I would see serial killer versus serial killer. It wasn't like that all. This book is a domestic thriller at best, with a MC that gets lucky a lot. The plot is predictable, with no (or very small, subtle) twists. There are no redeeming or remotely likeable characters. I think if I had gone into this without high hopes, I might have enjoyed it more.
It is hard to imagine such depraved people who made up the cast of characters in this book. I think anyone who enjoys really twisted plots and books where you are constantly surprised will love this. Warning: Don't read if you have a weak stomach...
I liked this book, but I also didn’t. I found the storyline interesting but also repetitive. I thought there was good character development as I found myself really wanting to learn more about them because I wasn’t sure who the villain was! It did hold my interest and I’m glad I read it.
This is a decent story, but whoever edited it, failed. There are a few times where the proper usage is not used, and several grammatical errors. This is not for the light hearted.
