First I don’t know if the author listed TW at the beginning cause I didn’t pay attention but listen, this book is dark AF and has some serious triggers. Incest and SA along with Physical abuse. So be aware before you dive in. I read the previous book and honestly I was not expecting to read this heavy dark stuff in this one. I was in utter shock. And I read a lot of dark romance…nothing shocks me but damn if this book didn’t make me feel ill. I don’t think enough car was taken in regards to the dark trauma the author wrote about. It was just glossed over after it was exposed…I still felt nauseous and the author had moved on to another topic. There’s a certain consideration authors need to take when writing dark romance. Unfortunately, the author missed that memo in this book. And the only trigger I have is when the MMC cheats then the FMC forgives and they end up back together. I read all kinds of dark and twisty sick things and have never come across this. It was not handled appropriately by the FMC pack either. They got mad, beat him a bit then let it go until another incident he brought upon her. Like no therapist or even the guys trying to help her. And she I a doctor! Like seriously?! You can’t write this stuff and not be responsible with your writing. And then after you commit that cardinal sin you commit another by giving the most abrupt ending! Naw, you gotta pick a struggle ok. You can’t be irresponsible with serious sick twisted trauma and give a lazy half azz ending. This book had the plot to be really good. But it was all so rushed and all the things were glossed over. And for the FMC being a damn doctor yet acting dumb AF 90% of the book…so not believable. And then there were several plot twist left to be unanswered and that gave no impact tot he story so why waste our time? You should have focused on giving a more complete story and taken care of the bad stuff you laid out. I read over 500 books in the last 12 months and never have I done a review about trigger warnings and the author not being responsible when writing dark stuff. Never.
This book feels like it was written by a 15 year old that reads too many fantasy books. The writing and plot are poor and very choppy. There are no TWs for the abuse she suffers. This overall feels like it should've been put on Wattpad. This author gets a hard pass from me.
This was a no for me. It was to fast paced. Within hours of meeting, she was falling in love with them.
The writing was horrible. It felt like a teenage wattpad story. The s*x scenes weren't good, nor was the BDSM safe or accurate.
I absolutely hated the MMCs and the MFC. They were annoying, to say the least. Especially, J. Don't remember his name and don't care to. He was weird. And an a**. Like, I understand non con and Dub con. But that was just straight, not consenting.
Also, it could have been better trigger warnings for FS. You can't just gloss over that. You can't put serious sh*t in books like that and act like it was serious. She was SA buy her DAD!
I will NEVER read something else by this author. I don't understand all the good ratings.
I like the Wattpad-style writing. It is nostalgic. I also like books with a rapid pace. But, this book brushed over things that were important too quickly to move to sex. I got whiplash.
In the Content Guide, there is a warning for "Past non-consent (in her past)/ parental abuse" in those exact words. I feel like saying "parental abuse", "child rape" and "non-con/rape by a parent" would have been better. That is NOT a trigger that should be held vague or brushed over.
The book is not dark with the parts you want it to be dark with. The sex is mostly vanilla, and the guy(s) is(are) not that bad. It is just a really horrible childhood plus abuse far into adult life.
Spoiler
Okay, now the spoiler part. I know the one before was spoilers, but that is unavoidable with triggers like that.
I hate the trope where one parent is murdered, and the other one blames the child for not stopping a murderer. Especially when they claim the parent was caring before.
"This is all your fault," he growled"
(p. 6)
Then that, her father raped Keera at 16 and was thrown in so briefly, it should have just been left out. It is mentioned for 1 and a half pages but seems to be a big part of her life. I do not remember her going through that in her inner dialogue. "My dad violated me when I was sixteen,"[...]"He did it a couple of times.[...] my fault that Mom died, so I had to take her place.”(p. 95) This doesn't sound like he just randomly stopped at a point and either way, she was 16, that is old enough to remember it well and considering how old she is, not that long ago.
And now the worst part of the book. She constantly defended her father and wanted to see him.
I would never think of my father again after that."
(p. 114)
It's not hard to guess what she did a few pages later. But there was a constant. "I need to see him." and "No, please don't kill him." (p. 156 and a lot more than that)
Worst part of the book, they eat from paper plates in the house when it’s not a special occasion??? Is that an American thing?
Characters
Keera
- protects her father - brushes over rape incest trauma - made to be stupid for plot - tuning from the people who protect her (p. 56) - think women fake pain as a doctor and woman - considers her abuser over her loved ones (p. 159)
Jatix
- his name ^ - his childhood trauma is also brushed over - most important thing for him is having kids (p. 103)
Sometimes he speaks like a kid in really lewd scenes and it feels out of place. “He’ll be making love to you too.” (p. 58) I didn’t expect the 50 shades “I don’t make love. I fuck… hard.” but come on.
“Can I kiss you?” he whispered. "Just kiss her, goddamn it,” muttered Jatix[…] (P. 110) YES, god damn Shawn, fuck consent, that’s for soft losers.
“Oh shit, psycho Jatix is back,” (P. 130) while he does the most basic stuff they make him out to be a top insane BDSM master. He just used a plug and a vibrator.
Darius
- not an Alpha a Delta - only pleasant character - works hard
Silus - bland - sports guy - complaints - dense
Calls her spoiled as an abuse victim, human trafficking victim who never had anything to her name (p. 85)
Shawn
- fat/chubby - likes food - generally left out or playing a minor role
“Shawn’s belly was jiggling, and Keera’s laughter could be heard from afar.” (p. 99)
“He lifted his body, so his full weight didn’t crush me when he lowered himself onto me.” (p. 110)
I hope I don’t have to explain while his character is portrayed poorly.
Other Stuff
The author lets the characters know stuff they shouldn’t. A lot of miscommunication that was resolved 3 pages later. The dirty talk was abysmal at times. BDSM and polyamory aren’t done that well.
Nothing against the author, I will give another book a shot. This was just not it for me.
Fun Quotes
I parked in front of my house. Some people would call it a mansion. (p. 18)
“So, what do you intend to do with me?” I asked him. He turned to me as he drove, “to love you, mate you and breed you. What else?” (p. 58)
I didn’t last five seconds before I exploded. (p. 68)
All our cock energy must have worn her out. (p. 116)
“That’s not fair,” said Silus. “Why aren’t we allowed to get some pussy?” (p. 132)
it sucked. pun intended. i know you’re horny but PLEASE don’t waste your time like I just did…
my (not so) favourite moments:
- “I parked in front of my house. Some people would call it a mansion.” bruh…
- Chapter 10: she’s barely 15 minutes into a house full of strangers which are supposed to be scary alphas 😰😰 and she willingly gives Jatix the glug glug 9000? Plus, she was washing it with soap which means she gave him a soapy glug glug 🤢
- Shawn constantly gets set aside and his whole personality revolves around being fat and eating like… ??
- “Throwing away the paper plate, I quickly ascended the stairs” Now… they’re men, it’s not surprising, but I’m supposed to believe a bunch of fancy men are eating their first dinner with her on paper plates? 💀💀
- “leopard print leggings” do I have to explain myself on this one?
- “I suddenly had a wave of empathy for all the mothers I helped. At the time, I thought they were exaggerating, but shit.” She’s a woman and I suppose an OBGYN (they only mention she’s a “doctor”) and I’m supposed to believe she thinks like this??? 💀💀
The whole her getting fired and getting reinstated because of Jatix being a hospital’s investor and it gets written as if it’s such a FeMinIst moment when she only got her job back because of a man and not because she fought for it…. like… yikes.😟
I had a long list of things I hated about this book that I was going to write about but this book has wasted enough of my time already so I can’t be bothered. Just know it was completely shit.
This book is problematic. Yes, there are trigger warnings, that is not the problem. I have no triggers with what I read IF AND WHEN it is done well. The problem is that the dark aspects of the novel are glossed over and/or not written in a safe manner. The BDSM is wrong. The non-con/dub-con is not done well. The plot and storyline of this story is bad. It’s fast paced, it’s full of plot holes. It’s unfortunate, because the premise has promise.
Wtf did i just read! 🫣 Awful writing, Awful characters, Plot made me go what the actual *!?# is happening here. Ive read alot of dark romances but this was all over the place. Wouldnt class this as dark romance really, it was more throwing random things into the plot for shock value when really it made no sense.
This is the second book in the series and again, I'm glad I listened to the audiobook vs reading the book. The narration is key to breathing life into the characters although I do feel the writing in this book was better than the first. The characters had a bit more dimension to them and the plot was more exciting. It was interesting seeing another side of the alpha pack since they were the bad guys in the first book. Overall, I would say these were enjoyable to listen to and I'll download more of the audiobooks in the series to listen especially when I'll be traveling and want a series that I can sink into without needing to do much thinking to enjoy.
I really enjoyed this book. Loved that the omega was a Dr, even if she was completely controlled my her father. The relationship journey is bumpy was lovely to see. The knotting steamy scenes were hot AF and numerous. Overall a great book with a perfect happy ending
This was alright compared to the other books by this author that I have read. Plot moved at a good pace and didn't feel rushed. Characters have more to them than being annoying
I think that there needed to be more plot to the book. There was a lot of action in it but there was not a lot of character building. I that there was also some unfair sharing among the pack with omega which made me feel like one of the alphas were put at a disadvantage. I think that there could have been more cute bonding with the different individuals. I love omegaverses but I think the main characters childhood trauma and recent trauma were brushed off and it was like it dissappeared. I also think there should have been more information on the alpha that had childhood trauma too. Overall, I think that this just isn't a book for me.
The book as a whole was alright. The spicy was cringe-y at times and the story it self was too fast paced. The main character has a lot of trauma that was not in any way dealt with. I felt like it was just mentioned as something to make the book more interesting, but then it was never mentioned again.
what the fuck did I just read 😭😭😭 the pacing is insane, the mc keeps changing her personality, and why does everybody except shawn have a weird ass name (what kind of name is jatix????) like at least commit to the weird names
I don't know where to begin, so expect this to be a somewhat short but kind of chaotic mini-review.
⤏ What to expect: ∘ Omegaverse ∘ Multiple POV ∘ Insta-Lust ∘ Pregnancy trope ∘ Full of plot holes ∘ Fast-paced, but not in a good way ∘ Cringe ⤏ Trigger Warnings: all forms of abuse, sexual assault & rape (by parent), non-con, gaslighting (by MMCs), child abuse
I picked this book up after reading about it in a FB group. It sounded intriguing, and even though I'm not usually into the "MMCs bought the FMC" trope, I decided to give it a go.
One of the problems I had with this book was the lack of a complete list of content warnings. Leaving out the most disturbing ones is a major no-no. I'm sorry, but how could you not consider "incest" as worth mentioning?!
Let me start with the writing. It was... bad. It sounded like something I'd have written at 14yo, sorry. Rushed and cringe, especially the dialogue. The trauma was briefly mentioned, then promptly forgotten, the dirty talk was... not good. However, I was willing to overlook that if only the story in the book had been better.
I had no problems with the FMC until I realized she was protecting her abuser (???). I legit wanted to throw up. Unfortunately, the MMCs weren't any better. They were annoying, bland, immature, and gave me abuser vibes at times (J in particular). They were after one thing only: a woman to breed.
They gave this woman no time to adjust to her new life or the idea that she was basically going to be their sex slave. On the first day after being bought, she's forced to have sex with one of them, and the scene was... disturbing.
⋯ I'm not sure I could even call this erotica... there were so many wrong aspects in this book. I'm not going to read anything from this author again, I'm sorry. ⋯
The pacing of this book is very fast and makes the story a little unenjoyable. The relationships happen too quickly and the main drama with her dad lacks the needed build up
-jatix is a fucking creep -why is her father pinching her thigh and abusive af in like a wattpad-way -has this author ever spoken to actual real life non-creepy adult men I just cannot. Dnf @ 12%
DNF @55% I just can't. This was so bad. It ping ponged around, there was no story or plot really. I felt like I got whiplash from this damn book. Just not good.
