Rate this book
When Emilia de Soto arrives in Key West to await the arrival of her estranged husband, Raul, by boat from Cuba, she encounters Harry, an American sailor on a topsail schooner. The attraction is mutual and immediate. When Raul finally arrives from Cuba, Emilia is forced to choose between the husband she has not seen for 14 years and the ship’s mate, Harry, who has fallen in love with her.

Martha, the young deckhand, witnesses the affair and befriends Emilia, unaware of the whole story. When Raul becomes suspicious, he confides in Martha.

What will he ask of her? Will she betray her new friend? And how will Emilia resolve her dilemma and choose between a distant marriage and a new love?
