In the depths of the fae underworld, where betrayal burns brighter than fire and love is forged in the crucible of despair, Morte must make an impossible choice.
Bound by a destiny she never sought and entangled with mates who would sacrifice everything for her, Morte’s fight to save her chosen family plunges her into the darkest corners of hell. With a tyrant king demanding her loyalty and a haunting secret that could shatter everything, she must make peace with ancient bargains, secrets thousands of years old, and soul-binding magic to protect the ones she loves.
But power comes at a cost, and the River of Souls is always watching, ready to claim its price.
As the threads of fate tighten and betrayal looms, Morte must make an unthinkable choice—one that could destroy her world, consume her soul, and redefine love, sacrifice, and power forever.
This dark fantasy, why choose MMFM+ romance includes the following tropes and universal fantasies:
Fated mates Enemies to lovers Sacrificial love Slow burn romance Hurt/comfort Magic as a burden Quest for redemption Morally gray shadow daddies Grief as a catalyst Who-hurt-my-mate Mate with a tail Fancy peen Found family Please note, this is the third installment in a trilogy that must be read in order.
A cousin to Billie Eilish (though she's never met her in person), blood descendant of Wild Bill Hickok, and a long line of artists and creators, Kathy Haan believes the secret to telling a great story is living one. The second youngest, in a massive horde of children between her parents, she did her best to gain attention and kept everyone entertained with jokes and wild stories.
She lives a life of adventure with her hunky husband, three children, and Great Pyrenees in the Midwest United States. While new to fiction, you might’ve seen her work in Forbes, where she’s a regular contributor. Or, in Notoriety Network’s 12x international award-winning documentary, #SHEROproject.
I spent the first half of the book following Morte in her rage and despair over the betrayal and heartbreak she endures.
But as we start to get answers, and see the wider picture, it all starts to make sense.
Forgiveness and acceptance and hard pressed to be given in the situation Morte is in... and so many sacrifices take place in the beginning of the second half of the book, that I started to panic that it wouldn't be resolved..!
But as we neared the end, Morte is safe, but she still feels like she is missing a part of herself, and as much as I knew this was a complete trilogy and this was the last book, with about 200 pages left I was seriously questioning what was gonna happen next and would we be left with a 'happy for now'?
I'm absolutely relieved with the ending and epilogue, and I can honestly say this was another masterpiece of writing that reaches into your heart and mind and lives there rent free in the hours you're not parked and actively reading.
I was blown away once again by the characters, their natures, the magic system and the problem solving. I was gobsmacked, heartbroken, elated, hopeful and then 100% satisfied.
I rode this rollercoaster to the end and I can honestly say this is a top tier trilogy that I can't recommend enough!
If you haven't already, please take the time to sit down and meet Morte and her motley crew of mates.
Saying that, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the next series based on the Gravewoken (Reapers) as I'm very intrigued by the introduction of their quest for their mate at the end of this story.
⭐ - 5/5 🌶️ - 5/5 - another delicious balance of slow burn and epically hot connections 🔥 ❤️ - 5/5 - I felt like I lived and breathed the heartbreak, heart ache, desperation, yearning and eventual reunion
This was just fabulous, I'm blown away and I actually can't decide what to read next as these characters were just wonderful to live alongside in the fantasy realm! 💕✨ Xx
* Poor editing * SA of main character on the page * Rushed ending with so much left unfinished *Has a smutty ending * Lacks depth
I really enjoyed the first book, the second book was ...terrible and coasted on my like for the second book for me to hope the third book was great again. The third book was ....fine? I guess? Parts of it gave me major ick and I wanted to DNF but figured I was so close to the end I should stick it out. The book never recovered from the ick, but I didn't mind finishing it.
I wish the characters had meaningful deep conversations instead of a few surface sentences, some looks, and getting dirty. Even internal dialog is barely a drop deep. If you're just going to skip the story for the smut, then it's a decent why choose pick. If you want to really feel you know your characters and be invested in a story, then I'd pass. If editing problems is an issue for you, I'd pass. If I saw a cute TikTok and want to read the series? Read the first book, and stop.
I am conflicted about this book. I wanted to punch several characters more than once for assuming things and doing dumb stuff to save the others. But overall, it is a good and fitting third book for this trilogy which does the characters justice.
Some reviews mention that it is not anymore about Aggonid. I don't think that is the case. First, the books were never only about Aggonid. Yes, it is his realm but there is more than one MMC. If I were to complain, Caius is the one who gets treated as a sidekick most of the time.
What irks me about this book (and the other two) is that you have this quite powerful woman, a phoenix. Most of the time, she is castrated by some magical contraption and reduced almost to a normal human being, which must be saved by her mates. If you just need her dying again and again, don't give her more than that. As much as I roll my eyes at the "mortal finding out about hidden powers in her", I kind of prefer it to this version.
I lovedd book one. When I say loveed I mean it. The second book I wont lie. I did not like. This one is sooo good. Its just so unfinished. Did we completely forget about Nox and her friends and Wilders family? Just decide not to go there? Whats the point of putting them HEAVILY in there and whoops nothing, same for king finn. Just nothing after the immediate help. Also I love RH but Aggie was her SOUL bond and their interactions after book one was ridiculous. Why even have a soul bond, let them be the same. No lie he was my favorite, and he got nothing. Book two and three are hard core Az and Wilder heavy. The main men you would think, took a major back seat. Good book i did not DNF but it had so much potential story line wise and ended up just being sex with a mixed up “could be” fantastic side story.
Wilder is out of prison, and Morte has been kidnapped. But at least she has her memories back.
To be honest, this book was a tough read. I lost interest fairly quickly and it was a struggle. I just wasn't invested any longer in seeing Morte be rescued again, when she's supposedly a bad-ass leader. Granted, there wasn't much she could do, given her circumstances.
And then as the story continued, it all seemed to wrap up fairly quickly, then there was something else, and something else. I still have some outstanding questions - things that were left, not necessarily unresolved, but untold.
I refused to DNF the book, because overall, it was a good story, I just wasn't invested enough to care by the end.
Made it to the end. My opinion of this series has gradually climbed throughout each book. With the first just being this jumbled mess of half thoughts and scattered feelings. Leaving me more disgusted at the insincerity than anything else.
The second stayed more on task and gave us a story and feelings to ground us to.
The third book was actually quite well done. Still some errors throughout, but overall an easy read. As that human who wants to be destroyed, this one did it. The situations in this book cut deep. The emotion was real, the time was taken to really let us sit there with the characters during it. I may even have to check out the next series hinted at towards the end of this book.
Anger, betrayal, hope, frustration - I felt it all! This book takes you on one hell of a ride. From one chapter to the next, you feel every emotion of the characters. (Especially the bunker scene! 😩 I loved Az throughout the series, but man oh man, I hated him soooo much when he turned his back on Morte here.)
This book did not disappoint and was a bittersweet ending to a great series. And I’m glad they got their revenge in the end!😈

The book wrapped the series up nicely, but it needs some major editing. Redundant sentences, paragraphs, grammar issues, spelling errors galore. It was just bad. Normally, I can look past it, but it happens so often that it "breaks the spell" and takes me out of the book. Definitely made the book less enjoyable.
I love Morte and this book seriously F'ed me up. Not even gunna lie. But I'm so glad I stuck though the pain and suffering. The growth of everyone and the story was great. I'm sad their story came to an end. 5/5 ⭐ 3/5 🌶️
This is the last book in Aggonid’s Realm. It will bring you to tears but your heart will heal as the story comes to an end. Morte has to survive a betrayal that will rip her heart from her chest. She has to learn to trust, forgive and love again. She has been hurt by all the people she loves other than one. The world building throughout this series was effortless and so worth it. All of Kathy’s book are apart of the same universe and it all blends seamlessly. Highly recommend.
