I was familiar with Greek myths - they’re part of the school curriculum - but my knowledge was about 20 years old. I saw the book on a huge sale at TK Maxx, and I couldn’t bear the thought that someone would buy it just as decoration and never read it. I had no idea it was co-written with Hawthorne, but that explains a lot: the language is archaic - “maiden,” “wooing,” and many other words I’d never encountered before. In my opinion, it could have been written with more soul and storytelling hooks, especially since these are legends with no canon, so sometimes the versions conflict with each other. It was a fun, relaxing read - all the gods are like toxic boomer parents. I learned a lot!

Nice book for starting to learn about Greek mythology. Written in a simple, clear way, and covers the most well-known stories.

I loved this book! I didn’t realize how many of these stories serve as the foundation for various movies and books. It’s definitely a great introduction to Greek mythology. My favorite was the love story of Eros and Psyche, but all of them were really good.
