He didn't ask me to be his bride. He just carried me off.
When he invited me to join him for a drink, I thought Alessandro was an ordinary guest at my family's hotel. I didn't know I belonged to him until he told me right there in the restaurant.
I thought I had a say in the matter, but when I stood up to leave it just earned me a sore bottom for the plane ride to New York, where our wedding was already planned for the next day.
But I was soaking wet for him before he even walked me down the aisle...
Publisher's Note: His to Wed is a stand-alone romance which is the first book of the Reluctant Vows series. It includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.
I have several these smut/kink reviews coming that I buddy read with a few friends after a heated (not really) discussion over wine about how these types of books tend to have no plot and no real romance. My smut loving friends fiercely disagreed with my romance loving friends (I just love the drama) and so we went off on this smutty journey together.
His to Wed tells the story of Emilia and Alessandro and although I think calling it a romance is a stretch since it was pretty insta, out of all the books we read this probably checked the most boxes in both columns. (smut & romance-ish)
The blurb gives very little away, so if you want to go in blind please stop here. BUT I do think readers should know this is one of those you are MINE-- spanking the h as punishment for every imagined infraction, but she enjoys it, so if that doesn’t work for you, I’d skip.
I struggled with this book. Alessandro isn't some mafia husband (I mean he is), he's just an asshole to his wife. He whips her with a belt to make her "learn her place" and the next chapter she's trying to say she knows her husband would never hurt her....um... are we reading the same book. He flirts withnother women and she says he is disrespecting her, which he is, and he gets mad and tells her to give him head...and she does! Every time he's straight up abusive to her she is either terrified (understandably) or makes it into some playful sexual joke. I get survival instincts but this is too much. I bet if he punched her in the face she would start giggling and tell him to stop joking.
All the men in this family are assholes. There isn't any character, personality, redeeming qualities. They are just misogynistic jerks throughout who make semi-public sexually inappropriate comments about the FMC who they just met. FMC makes statements about how her new husband is barely home and all they do is have sex and go to bed. She is terrified of him and basically a prisoner in their apartment but within a couple days she tells him she loves him?!?!?! What drugs is she taking. She knows literally NOTHING about him. They have barely spoken and when they do it's him testing her obedience by demanding things of her and trying to push her over the edge so he can give himself permission to physically abuse her and remind her that he OWNS her. I get that she likes the dominance and some pain. No problem. But none of this is done with her permission or preferences in mind. It's all just Alessandro's bravado and force that the author conveniently has the FMC some how enjoy even though she literally zero prior sexual experience or contact with a male. To his part, Alessandro says he loves her too. But come on! He doesn't know her. She's not even allowed to have an opinion or be herself since they met. He continuously tells her he wants total obedience and every time she tries to have an opinion or ask a question, some man in the story (most likely her husband) tells her to shut up and know her place. He can't love her. She's not even allowed to be a whole autonomous person. She a rich, walking sex doll, arm candy to him at best.
This is not a romance or a D/s kink book. This is an asshole who kidnaps a woman and beats her and the author lazily writes it off as consensual even though consent was never requested or provided, nor did it even seem to be of consideration to the MMC

i’m still trying to figure out when they fell in love because he didn’t change and was still an ass & she just become complacent and took it.
side note: this is not a healthy d/s relationship and i hope this book isn’t marketed as such because it’s misleading & borderlines abusive to me. no where did they take about safe words or limits & within the first few chapters he spanks her just to prove a point without having ever met her before. it’s never really discussed properly between the couple and he does it whenever he feels like it. there needed to be much bigger trigger warnings in the beginning of this book.
Yet another instance of the MMC deciding to “punish” the FMC by hitting her without her permission. So tired of these books. If someone is into it and both parties have discussed it, fine, you do you. If someone violates a “rule” they weren’t even aware of and then get hit for it, that’s abuse.
This is the first book in Sassa Daniels' Reluctant Vows series. Each will tell the story of one of five Volante Brothers. The Volante's are a powerful, New York mafia family headed by Antionio (Tony) Volante, the oldest brother . This book tells the story of Alessandro and Emelia.
Emelia is an innocent Italian girl living in San Vicente, Italy. Raised by her grandfather, Ernesto, after her parents death when she was young, she's been extremely sheltered and protected. She justifies his often overbearing, protectiveness because she believes he is a successful, legitimate, business man who has enemies because of his success. She's been kept completely clueless regarding her grandfather's real business and his true wealth. He doesn't believe in extravagance so she's lead a fairly modest life. She's use to having her life controlled and was thrilled when one of her uncles convinced her grandfather to let her work in his hotel. Emelia is sweet and friendly and loves making people happy and welcome.
Alessandro is third born of the Volante Bros. He answers to no one but his eldest brother. The Volante's are old school...women have their place and purpose and are to be protected and men are to be obeyed, without question, in their dangerous world. Alessandro is an alpha a-h0le, especially in the beginning, yet he's also capable of being sweet and tender. He definitely has a kink which might explain some of his actions.
In the beginning, Alessandro expects obedience and threatens punishment before she's even told who he will be to her; then surprises her with that announcement without any explanation and punishes her for the absolutely normal reactions of an innocent who's been sheltered and is afraid. He's soon interuppted with news that requires a quick departure to the airfield to board his plane and NY for her safety. There, he finally does explain some, but not all, and it's too little too late in my opinion. If he had time to punish her, he had time to explain. A little explanation of her situation as well as specifc details of what's expected of her, would have gone a long way to garnering obedience before having to resort to corporal punishment, particularly for an innocent in her circumstances. Instead, he seems to be vague enough to set her up to fail in the beginning.... To test her? So she'll learn what's expected of her? To see how far he can go or how much she can take?
I don't mind domestic discipline stories but typically don't care for ones where it's more from a 'setup-to'-fail situation or unjustified. Yet I still loved this story....maybe because that only seems to happen in the beginning and there's so much more going on. When Alessandro's family was approached to arrange a marriage for Emelia with one of the brothers, he was the one who wanted her as soon as he saw her picture. And meeting her when he went to Italy to fetch her only reinforces his desire. Emelia developed a crush on Alessandro from the first time she saw him, when she thought he was just a guest staying at her uncle's hotel. She may be an innocent and use to having her life controlled, even though she sometimes wishes for more freedom, but after her first encounter with him outside the hotel, and in spite of her fear, somethng about Alessandro's dominance excites her. Even worse his punishments arouse her, though she doesn't understand why. But Alessandro notices and does understand. There's a lot going on; danger, kidnap attempts, navigating the family... All while he struggles with his growing feelings, learns to balance a desire to indulge her with the need to make sure she is obedient for her safety; and she learns to understand her husband, her feelings and emotions, adjusts to her new life and finds her place within the family. Yes, I ended up loving this story and can't wait for the second in this series (Leo's story). It's already out! This one...deliciously naughty and wicked. 5 stars.
The hero is mean and domineering- and not in a good or sexy way. Yet somehow we’re supposed to believe that a woman who craves independence suddenly loves him and is turned on by this even though there’s no tenderness in his dominance until the end of the book. This read like someone who isn’t into D/s thinks D/s is so just sketched out a story without giving the characters any real personalities. Very hollow. There are far better spanking books out there. Go read one of them instead.
His To Wed is Alessandro and Emilia's story. Emilia Conti's parents was killed in a carjacking when she was nine years old. Her grandmother had just died unexpectedly of a brain aneurysm. Emilia then moved in with her grandfather Ernesto Conti, he was always overprotective of her. Ernesto Conti has three sons Gianni, Pietro, Mario and he has suspected one of them is trying to take him down. Emilia has had a sheltered life and has only been working at her Uncle Gianni's hotel with his help. Uncle Gianni is the only man who thinks Emilia needs more freedom. After work one night Emilia is walking home to the villa and Alessandro rescues her from falling. He had checked in at the hotel under the name Greco. He asks Emilia to have a drink with him and this is when she finds out his real name Alessandro Domenico Volante. Her grandfather has set up an arranged marriage for Emilia to marry. She knows that the Volante's are mafia who had moved from Italy to New York. Emilia's grandfather new she was in danger and he wanted her married to a Volante and out of Italy, where she could be kept safe. This is a wonderful read that I enjoyed.

Emilia has lost most of her family, and now her Uncle cares for her. She works long hours at his hotel, and she's walking home alone when the handsome guest from the hotel stops to chat with her.
𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒉, 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒇--𝒄𝒌, 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒕.
Little does she know that her Uncle is in the Mafia, and to keep her safe, he has arranged for her to marry Alessandro and take her to his home in New York.
Alessandro is unlike most men. He likes order and doesn't like it when Emilia is sassy. He doesn't go out of his way to cater to Emilia's fragile needs, but he ensures she is comfortable and has everything she needs. He knows Emilia has been through a lot and respects her boundaries by not forcing himself on her. Don't get me wrong, he is a jerk sometimes to her, but Emilia is his top priority, and he does everything in his power to ensure that she is safe and protected from any danger.
𝑺𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒂 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒈𝒊𝒓𝒍 𝒕𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒚 🍆.
His to Wed was a fast and steamy read, and I will be reading more from this author.
Emilia just wanted to go home and rest. Working a double at her uncle Gianni hotel was tiring. She didn’t expect to be saved by one of the handsome guests. But there was something about him that was dangerous. She should have stayed away. Alessandro Volante’s family struck a deal with Ernesto Conti. Marry his granddaughter to keep her safe. But there is more to the story. I have to say Emilia is smart. She gave Alessandro what he wanted, and an obedient wife. But that drove him nuts. That what so much fun to read. Then of course we meet his family and the Don is scary. There is something going on with Antonio. Each member of the family is interesting. Olivia is outgoing and has a stubborn streak. Ana is sweet. Matteo, Leo, and Gio are all as dark as Antonio. They also can be a bit harsh. We learn a lot about Emilia’s uncles. I don’t want to say more about what happens and who is involved. But the story does get interesting. I’m glad that Alessandro isn’t a jerk and treats Emilia like a princess.

Emilia is working at her uncles hotel when a very handsome man asks her to come to his room and help him with the AC. Later that night when she gets off work she sees him again. He takes her for a drink but things seem off. Turns out he's her soon to be husband that she didn't know about.
I love that Alessandro calls Emilia *Dolzezza*. It's funny how he needed help with the AC that Emilia says a child could’ve figured out. How sweet is it that Alessandro caught her before she fell on her face! I like how Alessandro doesn't make empty threats. That plane ride was not what I expected. That wedding day was a mess but still nice. You know what, I'd be petrified too if my life was in danger. The ending was good.
I was a little hesitant about Alessandro in the beginning but he grew on me. When his emotions softened for her I wanted to melt. I did smile a lot through it. Very good!
I really was excited about the description of this story but it wasn’t written very well in my opinion. I’ve been on a dark mafia kick so maybe that’s why didn’t care for it. I didn’t like the fact that the FMC was a virgin and very sheltered yet within minutes of agreeing to have a drink with the MMC she was being spanked for not listening. Not only spanked but punished without a number to count. Every time the FMC was being punished it was overly done in my opinion. The MMC wanted her submissive all the time but got angry if she didn’t have the right mix of fire. I almost DNF but trudged thru. It’s told with dual POV and has an epilogue which gave it a star. I don’t know, just wasn’t my cup of tea.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Heat: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Darkness: 🤍🩶 Ending: HEA Epilogue: YES
3 Stars: Enjoyable! A solid read that had its moments. While I enjoyed most of it, a few aspects didn't fully land for me. Still, it's worth picking up if it speaks to you-sometimes the right book just finds the right person at the right time. I will continue the series for now, and ck out more of Sassa’s books.
🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 - Good blend of spice and storyline. Deliciously naughty. Steamy. Obsessive. Kisses that can be felt for days. 🍑 play, D/s, 3D’s dark, delicious, and dirty.
This was a super quick read, I think I read it in just a few hours. I really liked it for what it was, the story was good and the spice was great. Not my favorite and the MMC and FMC left a lot to be desired: he was domineering and an asshole and she, supposedly craving independence, became a doormat for him and then just all of a sudden out of nowhere said she was in love? For a less than 300 page book, I feel like I got what I expected: decent story, decent spice, and plot holes. 2-3 star for me!
writing was good which is why i gave 3 stars. but the book itself was too rushed. she hates him but the next day she tells him she loves him. he beats her with a belt so she learns "her place" but he never tells her what her place is. his brothers talk sexual innuendos to her and disrespect her and he allows it. she's treated like a piece of meat by him and she falls in love with him. i don't know.....seems like a book meant to demean her and her loving it. hard to believe she was a virgin and allowed this man to treat her like this without some traumatic backlash to her.
This book is terrible and full disclosure I got 68% through before I stopped reading.
The MMC is an absolute abusive, mean and gaslighting asshole and it made the entire read unbearable.
I love arranged marriage books but this one needs to be skipped as nothing in ti is really consensual or leaves you with a good feeling.
The character development is nonexistent and the controlling and patriarchial behavior was not written in a way that makes me want to ever read from this author again.
The only ones I liked in this book is Olivia and Gio they happen to be siblings and side characters. Alessandro was absolutely abusive to his wife. He was disrespectful, demeaning, and condescending. He didn’t have much character growth at all and for that reason I never liked him from the moment he entered the page. There was nothing inherently interesting about the FMC, just a bland boring character. I will not be continuing the series. I’d probably only be interested in Gio book but I fear his character would be assassinated!

Emilia was non the wiser to who her familiy was until Alessandro comes to cliam his bride, she finds out her grandfathers made a deal and shes to become his wife, but Alessandro wants the fire in her not the obediant wife she shows. this read is steamy hot, desires and more.

It was hot, interesting. I fully enjoyed the characters, n i loved how the angst was quickly handled. It seemed to be a shorter story, but well, written. There were times that Alessandro seemed kinda like an ass, but the book was good n HEA. I'm looking to see if the other brothers have stories, too.
I couldn’t get very far into this to be honest. Maybe part of the reason this is getting such a low rating is because I’ve been reading a lot of good books lately not being one of them. The dialogue is so wooden, the characters under developed the emotions so juvenile there’s no nuance in this book, it’s just terrible.
A real page turner…. Emilia’s sheltered innocence comes to an abrupt end when Alessandro Volante from the Volante mafia family arrives to claim her as his bride. Things may never be the same… I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.
I always enjoy Sassa Daniels books...this one a lot milder than her Regency stories, but it was an alpha male expecting obedience from his new wife and she, fighting it all the way. A pleasure to read.
Emilia has been sheltered by her over protective grandfather but things change when she meets Alessandro at her family's hotel. He takes her out for a drink and tells her that she will be marrying him. While she is still out with Alessandro he is informed that her grandfather and his household have been killed. Alessandro takes Emilia back to the US and marries her when they arrive. Now Emilia is a member of an US mafia family.
This book is a great read. I'm not a major fan of mafia stories but I really enjoyed this book.

Bruh… the character motivations made no sense. Like homegirl went from knowing nothing to knowing everything which is fine but at least try to make it make sense. Otherwise it was fine, predictable plot if not a bit boring but alas tis life
I totally enjoyed reading this book! Amazing characters with some awesome chemistry between them. A realistic and exciting story with some action, suspense and some hot steamy sexy parts. I totally recommend reading this book!
I love reading typical mafia romances, her grandpa set her up to marry a mafia boss, her father gets assassinated, he is very possessive and obsessive over her, they are in constant danger, there are a lot of nasty tropes, and it’s overall a good time.
This book pulled me in from the start and kept me quickly turning pages! All of the main characters, the family are lovable, each one intriguing! I would love to read about the brothers' asks sister's stories!
I love just the whole story and it was sexy and sweet! The whole family is interesting and you don't want you stop reading. The men are so hardcore but also have that sweet side that every woman wants...
