Nebraska Knights #2

Redd, Whit & Blue

Rate this book
We weren’t supposed to kiss... again. Is it still a second chance when our first one was a secret?

Rewind: In high school, I was Little Miss Brainy Rebel Girl to my twin’s athletic Mr. Popularity. That also meant I avoided wading into the dating pool. Like a shark, it didn’t help that my protective brother probably scared away potential suitors.

Fast forward: He’s engaged, but our parents won’t let him tie the knot until I find a boyfriend. Now, he has guys lining up to date me. This only becomes an issue when his best friend, Redd, gets a hero’s welcome when he returns to play hockey for the Nebraska Knights.

Pause: Little does my brother know that Redd and I kissed on a senior year camping trip. After that, I swore off smooching forever. But I get looped into helping him fundraise for our old high school’s hockey team, and he and his adorable secret move into my grandmother’s old house.

We end up spending a lot of time together. Making pancakes, playing flashlight tag, going to the lake... The problem is we despise each other, or so I thought. Will things between us fizzle or will there be fireworks this 4th of July?

This is a clean, sweet, closed door hockey romcom with lots of sweet kisses and a happily ever after.

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Whit (Whitney) & Redd (James)’s points of view

– a character was recently given custody of their sibling

– it is mentioned that a character’s parent(s) neglected them (past events)

Review:

I think Blue was my favorite character! I loved seeing her grow under the love and care that Redd & Whit bestowed upon her. I loved getting to see her try out things she’d never done before and the enthusiasm that came with the discovery of how fun they were. I loved that Whit caved under the desire to care for Blue, even if that meant working with Redd being under the same roof. I loved that Redd was determined to try again with Whit and see if she was open to a relationship between them. And I loved that he stood up for her against her childhood bully that didn’t want to let go of it.

Summary:

Whit has felt less than when compared to her brother & once made it her goal to do anything to stand out. Now she’d just like to sell cookies and work the farm like the good old days with her grandparents. Unfortunately, her family is making it hard to let go and move on from the past. Her brother is about to get married, but her parents don’t want him to tie the knot until they see that Whit has a boyfriend. Not to mention that someone gave her brother’s childhood best friend, Redd, the impression that he could stay at the farm Whit now owns…

Redd is thrown for a loop when he gets two life changing things so close together. First, he’s being traded back to his childhood hometown hockey team instead of staying on his current team like he planned. And even bigger? He’s now the guardian of his little sister. Luckily, his best friend has his back and is giving them a place to stay until Redd can get things settled for the two of them. Unfortunately, his friend failed to mention that Whit owns the place and had no idea they were coming. She’s not thrilled to have Redd in her space, but Redd is having an opposite reaction. He still remembers the one kiss they shared senior year fondly and wonders if they might try again…

Whit’s highschool crush/her brother’s best friend, Redd, returns to their hometown to play for the local pro hockey team. She reluctantly offers to play host to both Redd and his little sister who he has recently taken custody of.

Redd, Whit, & Blue is the second book in the Nebraska Knights Holiday Romance series. This best friend’s sister romance can be read as a stand-alone. Although Redd is a hockey player, the book isn’t aggressively sports focused. There are plenty of sweet and swoony moments but nothing spicy.

The chemistry and banter between Redd and Whit is just right. There’s always a little angst when the MCs have history but I think it’s balanced well. Blue is just precious and I loved “seeing” the process of Redd trying to figure out how to be a responsible adult for his sister.

Well I guess I have a new favorite Ellie Hall book. I’ve lost count of how many I have read at this point (maybe 25-30?) and this one hits the sweet spot. I can’t wait to see where she takes the rest of this series.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Redd, Whit & Blue is a clean, witty, family centric, best friend’s sister, romantic comedy. Blue, a whip smart six year old, really blossoms under the attention and love of Redd and Whit. These characters felt like extended family. I loved Whit starting her business and the friendships Redd made with his new hockey team. Once again, Ms. Hall has given the reader a “down home” yarn that sparkles and check all my boxes!

another amazing hockey read 💜

A sweet and clean hockey romance that warmed my heart ♥️. It also made me hungry as the heroine bakes cookies and has fresh diary milk for her food truck, The Milk Mustache 😋. A second chance romance that had a sexy hockey player, his adorable little sister, a sweet doggy, cows and cookies 🍪. The premise was cute and the read tickled my fancy 🤗.
I love the Nebraska Knights and give Ellie Hall my highest praise for these swoony reads 😍highly recommend!

This is a cute short read about a couple who were kinda best friends in middle/high school and kinda enemies. The brother’s best friend trope is a favorite of mine.

This one has a cute/sad little secret with it that I won’t spoil. But you find out about it pretty quick in the story.

Also, have lots of cookies and milk available when reading. She’s a cookie food truck baker and it was so craving chocolate chip cookies by the end of this book!

This is such a fun story and it starts with the title- which are the names of the main characters. I really like this hockey series. It has a lot of humor and banter between the main characters.

Whitney Reid (Whit) had a twin brother Clancy. When they were growing up they hung around together with James Reddford or Redd as he was called now. She had tried to keep up with the guys but as they got older they abandoned her. Her response was to become a rebel. When she left town she didn't think she would ever come back. After success in the business world she found herself back in town living in the house she inherited from her grandmother. Now she was working on her grandfather's old van to turn it into the Milk Mustache Van where she sells homemade cookies and fresh milk.

Redd had a difficult family life with a father who was trouble. Growing up he spent a lot of time with the Reid family. He left town to pursue his love of hockey. Now he had been traded to the Nebraska Knights and he needed a temporary place to live while getting settled. He also had a new responsibility as he had just gotten custody of a sister he didn't know he had. His sister Blue had some bad experiences in her past and Redd was determined to give her a better life even though he knew nothing about raising a young girl. When Redd gets back to town, Clancy gives him a place to stay in his grandmother's house. Redd has no idea that the house now belongs to Whit. Sparks fly between Redd and Whit as they spend lots of time together with Blue.

Whit's parents are giving Clancy a hard time as his wedding approaches. They want him to wait to get married until Whit has a boyfriend. Clancy actually asks Redd to pretend to have a relationship with Whit so that the wedding can happen. Redd refuses to play pretend even though Clancy is willing to help him with the punishment he has to do for a hockey violation. Clancy has no idea that Redd and his sister Whit had a secret kiss while they were in high school.

Will Redd and Whit reconcile their misunderstandings from the past? Will Whit and Redd have a real relationship allowing her brother to marry on time?

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.

These holiday hockey themed novellas by Ellie Hall have a way of capturing my heart and give me the warm and fuzzies even when angst is thrown in!

This novella is no different as we are thrown right into the deep end along with Whit!  Whit finds out from her twin, Clancy, that he can’t move forward with his wedding until she gets a boyfriend!  Easier said than done, cue the eye roll from them both!  Whit is more focused on getting her cookie food truck business underway and needs to get to her first event!  It’s not that she doesn’t want to help her brother out, but there is some unspoken tension that keeps these twins from seeing eye to eye!

After delivering the unfortunate news to his sister, Clancy meets up with some new arrivals in town… or rather one former citizen of Cobbiton and one newbie!  Redd aka James Reddford has been traded to the Nebraska Knights hockey team and has also recently gained custody of Blue!  Blue hasn’t had the easiest road in life, much like her guardian, but some of the simplest things (we take for granted) are like treasures from heaven!  Love how much this little girl grows over the course of this story!  Her guardian grows too, by learning to care for someone other than himself!

This tale is one of redemption, getting to the root of a major miscommunication and above all love!  While hurdles may have to be jumped over and emotions must be released, I’m here for it!  This novella is best read with a plate of cookies and drink of choice because not everyone can have fresh cow’s milk!  Eagerly awaiting to see what happens in the next novella, especially knowing it’s Christmas themed!

Oh my goodness Ellie Hall! This book has all the angst and love and a cute little cherub and her dog…what’s not to fall in love with. My heart was a fluttering the whole way through reading this book. Whit/Whitney and her twin brother Clancy were friends with Redd but it seems they went their separate ways he went for popular and she was in the geek section.. Fine! ….only it wasn’t and she was fed up of living under her brother’s shadow. Even now there’s some crazy clause to pause her brother’s engagement because she hasn’t got a man. When of a sudden their old friend Redd / James Reddford shows up in town with a little girl and her dog, Clancy gives him her home to stay in!? Anyway she takes to the little girl and things transpire to enable them to stay and they all grow quite close. So cute is the little girl but she’s had far too much angst in her short life….. There’s a whole lot more in store for this family and much of a back history too . Lots to soak in and grin at. And plenty of heartbreaking moments too. It seems his trade off to Nebraska Knights came at just the right time. … even though it was a harsh punishment, he got just where him and his sibling needed to be …. Wonderful writing by Ms Hall! I absolutely loved every moment of this great book. Very good descriptions , awesomely cute characters and the eye to detail in everything is sublime reading style that makes you angst then smile a while. I’m leaving my review voluntarily in my own words

This was a cute and fun read. I really enjoyed it. It is the second book in the series focused on the Nebraska Knights hockey team but it reads well as a standalone too. Whit had returned to her hometown to take a chance on a milk & cookies food truck. Her brother was getting married but their parents insisted that the wedding be put on hold until Whit had a boyfriend. Meanwhile, her brother’s best friend, her “Kissnemesis”, professional hockey player Redd ended up back in town too after being traded to a nearby team. Whit and Redd had to confront their past history and feelings when they ended up roommates in her deceased grandmother’s home. “I cannot be held accountable for what I did while under the influence of teenage hormones.” The characters were engaging and the romance was sweet. “I assumed that our roles were locked in. Turns out people change.” It was fun to see how they basically became a couple by default over the course of their time living together. It was pretty cute. “Are he and I in a relationship and didn’t realize it?” There were funny moments and details that were quite entertaining. Since it’s based in the off-season the hockey content was fairly minor, but it was nice to see Redd make some connections to his new team. This is a closed door romance with no harsh language.

Redd has been traded from LA to Nebraska for the upcoming hockey season. His BFF is offering his grandparents' home for Redd and his sister to live while their condo is being renovated. Clancy, his BFF, neglects to say his sister, Whit, is staying there full time. Whit has a cookie truck and sees Redd there. Their past comes up, but both resist the temptation to argue in front of Blue, Redd's little sister. They agree to share the farmhouse for the summer. Will it work out? Will their past ruin their future?

I liked this story. There is a lot of humor and some angst. I cannot believe Clancy agrees to his parents' ultimatum for his marriage. I feel bad for Whit when she finds out about Clancy's offer to Redd. I loved his solution to Whit's anger and hurt. I loved how Whit handles Blue, who is only 6. She does not hover over her but allows Blue to choose what and when to do things with her. They develop a wonderful relationship away from Redd. I liked that Redd learned from Whit how to treat Blue. I felt bad that Blue had gone through what she had, but I was glad that Redd and Whit provided the love and guidance she needed. I also liked that she got a BFF before going to school.

I look forward to reading the rest of this series. It was fun!

Redd, Whit & Blue~ Nebraska Knights Holiday Hockey Romance by Ellie Hall.

Blurb:
We weren’t supposed to kiss...again. Is it still a second chance when our first one was a secret?

Another fabulous rom-com from Ellie, I can't believe I have only been reading her books since last Summer, and she has been a firm favourite, In each book I have read, I've fallen in love with the characters and the believable storylines.

Here we have Redd, an Ice hockey superstar, and Whit the sister of Blue.
Whit and Blue are twins. Redd and Whit stole a kiss back in high school, but of course, she was off limits being the best friend's sister.

Blue(Clancy) is getting married but his parents will not let him unless his twin has a boyfriend, Redd is back in town with his half-sister.

I found this book to be written brilliantly with characters that feel real and a storyline that is easy to follow.

I loved this book and I highly recommend it to all.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read, Entertaining, Great world building, Happily Ever After, Inspirational, Page-turner, Romantic, Realistic, and Wonderful characters

Redd, Whit & Blue

This is such a fun second chance romance. Whit was the tag along twin sister to Clancy and best friend Redd when they were growing up until they left the brainiac sister in the nerdy group while they became the popular duo. Except for one occasion when she and Redd kissed the two ignored her. She has never been able to forget the kiss and move on even now that she has returned to her grandparents farmhouse. Redd has had a sudden change to his life by being traded to the hockey team in Omaha and finding out he has a young sister who needs him. Clancy promises him a place to stay until his condo is ready. The only problem when he arrives he finds Clancy doesn’t own the farmhouse but Whit does. Will Whit be able to forgive him and allow them to remain at the farmhouse? The characters are all so great but my favorite is Redd’s six year old sister, Blue, with a sad background who steals the show in this story for me. Highly recommend this book for great reading.

Milk and cookies for all!!

Sweet, silly fun abounds in this adorabe story about becoming a family. I could not imagine learning that I am an older sibling to a child ready to start school and becoming that child's guardian to boot. Redd carries that new responsibility to half-sis Blue "a-maiz-ingly" well in the midst of his transfer between pro hockey teams.

Whit is in the middle of her own transitions. Moving from the big city back to her old hometown. Trying to move beyond the town's memories of her as a brainy rebel. Opening a new business as a food truck vendor of homemade cookies and farm-fresh milk. The wedding of her twin brother. Now her brother's best friend is back in town, and said brother has volun-told her home to said best friend.

Oh, my! How the sparks fly!!! As each adult works to nurture the young child, they start to grow closer to each other. That is when past history gets finally sorted, and even MORE (and entirely different) sparks start flying!

I bought a copy of this story and voluntarily chose to share my review.

Heartwarming story

Redd, Whit & Blue by Ellie Hall is a heartwarming story of love and forgiveness. It’s book two of the Nebraska Knights series.

Whitney and Redd had one stolen moment years ago as teenagers that they could never forget, their lifelong friendship never recovered either. When Redd is suddenly traded from his current hockey team to the Nebraska Knights, their hometown, they get a second chance at what started years ago, however, Redd has extra baggage in tow when he comes back to town.

I love the FMC, she’s a strong, independent and quirky person with some thick walls and I love the MMC because he’s strong, yet humble enough to see how he may have hurt her in the past and he stands up for her. Then there’s the side characters that I don’t want to spoil for anyone but one will break your heart!

I absolutely love this story and I recommend it for a clean second chance romance with a forced proximity and a HEA.

Came for the plot, stayed for the mustache. I was so pleasantly surprised with this novella! I thought I was a novella hater, but I guess I just hadn’t found the author to do it right for me! Yeah I would’ve adored a full length novel with Redd, Whit, and Blue on the farm being a happy little found family, duh, but I also adored just what I got in this novella. (I did skip the epilogues because I hate epilogues and I enjoyed how it ended though.) Most devastating part of the novella was when Redd shaved off his mustache and I’m holding a razor 🪒 sanction just because of it. Though I will say the scene we got because of the shave was actually adorable. I loved Blue so much! I just loved watching them all find a routine and rhythm for life together. It was just so perfectly balanced and nice. It felt so homely and comfortable. The way life was described was just for comforting and made me want to stay there with them. Just love.

A second chance with an extra little surprise
A wonderfully, fun book to perk up your day. Redd was Clancy’s best friend and spent large amounts of time at Clancy’s home to avoid his own. Of course, Redd also got to know and become friends with Clancy’s sister Whit. What no one knew was the kiss shared by Redd and Whit their senior year. Now after becoming a professional hockey player, Redd has returned to his hometown with a little surprise in tow. Clancy quickly offers Redd use of his grandmother’s old home without mentioning that it now belongs to Whit and she is living in it. Chaos and confusion soon abound as parents issue edicts, old attractions re-kindle, rumors start flying, and Redd’s little surprise must be dealt with. A story to keep you reading. I received an early copy and this is my honest review.

The Milk Moustache-cookies and milk forever!

Sooo so much fun! You can feel the angst of teenage Wild Whit that feels betrayed by her twin and his best friend when high school hits. You can also feel her sweetness as she and Redd finally figure things out. His sister Blue and her dog and 4 cows make a perfect ensemble cast. Redd is so afraid of losing his found family that as a teenage bad boy he won’t go against Clancy’s edicts about his sister and cuts her out of the former threesome. This gives you all the feels and you’ll love how the bad boy and surly girl let their soft insides show-kind of like cookies and milk. You buy in pairs so you have one to share with a friend. Clean.

This was such a fun and sweet book! I loved the way Redd and Whit reconnected and ended up in a forced proximity situation. Although Whit was rebellious in high school, and they had some painful past moments from back then, they were actually such thoughtful people. I loved the way they cared about Redd’s sister, Blue, and wanted her life to be so much better than it had been.

Redd and Whit were so sweet together and I loved how their romance developed and the way Redd handled things when that romance was on shaky ground. This was such a swoony read! It is the first book that I have read by this author and I look forward to reading more.

This story jumped right in and did not let up. Whitney (White House) has returned to her family farm after inheriting the farmhouse. She has given up her big job in the big city and has started a milk and cookies food trucks. James (Redd) is being forced home due to a trade in his hockey career. He has quite a bit going on in his life. He has to serve community service for a hockey prank, and recently gained custody of his much younger sister, Blue. Whit and Redd grew up together and harbored secret crushes, seeing it play out was really good. The story was solid and the background flawless. Another great, sweet story!

"Between sparkles and sparks, oohs and aahs, I whisper, “I was afraid things would fizzle between us.” He kisses my cheek. “Nope. Nothing but fireworks for us from now on, Whitney.”

This book from @elliehallauthor is as sweet as Whitney's Cornachaffles! I am an absolute sucker for an "in love with my brother's best friend" trope and I am completely in my #HockeyRomanceEra. What I really loved about this read is how Redd and Whit already come in with some history and some serious chemistry! Then you add in adorable Blue, and you get the perfect, feel-good story.

It was the perfect 4th of July read! ❤️🤍💙

My heart exploded with this story

This is the second book in the Nebraska Knights series but can be read as a standalone. I just loved this sweet second chance romance, frenemies to lovers story. Redd and Whit are perfection and add in sweet Blue and Baloo and you won’t stop laughing and smiling when you read this book. This story also brings in some tough topics of childhood neglect and teenage angst/loneliness. It does it in a way that adds to the story and brings feelings to these characters that just jumps off the page. If you haven’t read this series I highly recommend it!

Such a wonderful, delightful, sweet brothers’ best friend story. Clancy and Whit are twins and the best friend Redd is friends with them both until high school and Clancy decided he was only his friend. Redd becomes a Hockey Pro and ends up back in his hometown with a surprise in tow. Now is when Whit and Redd see each other after many years and sparks fly. I loved how the story flowed, I loved the banter between Whit and Redd and most of all little Blue was a firecracker. The chemistry between them is off the charts and the swoony kisses and words make for a wonderful story.

A star hockey player turns surprise dad taking in his little sister he didn't know existed, and reconnecting with a childhood best friend/current enemy with all the banter and cute 6 year old kid? Yes please, sign me up! Blue (the young sister) steals the show *as she should* in this fun dual pov standalone book. I loved the small town vibes, and definitely found myself craving some good cookies and milk while reading, so be forewarned. I received an ARC, this is my personal opinion of the book.

Sweet, contemporary sports romance

Contemporary, sweet, hockey second chance romance; series but stand alone read.
Whit and Redd’s (James’) story was complicated by their past moments and emotions. Forced proximity and Blue, Redd’s much younger sister help them see beyond their past, and into a beautiful, sweet, present.
Friends first, but with attraction simmering in the background until they finally realize what’s been there all along and unspoken.
Great characters, fun and sweet moments, and strong side characters made for a great read.

"Redd, Whit & Blue" by Ellie Hall is a delightful, clean hockey romcom filled with charm and humor. The story follows a brainy, rebellious girl who must navigate her brother's interference in her love life. The twist? Her brother’s best friend, Redd, re-enters the picture, stirring up past feelings from a secret high school kiss. Their chemistry is undeniable as they bond over fundraising efforts and nostalgic activities. Hall's engaging writing and well-developed characters make this a sweet and enjoyable read, perfect for fans of heartwarming romance and hockey-themed tales.

Redd and Whit were childhood friends. A cute story of misunderstandings, resolution and family.
Wonderful world building and strong characters. Little sister, Blue and her dog Baloo are nice subplot.

A Warm Hug With Laughter

Get ready to feel all warm in a big hug while laughing out loud. This author always makes me laugh out loud or at least grin. Whit and Redd are adorable with their bantering, dialog and honesty. Add in a small child and I'm hooked on reading this story into the early morning hours. I love Whit's life and how the addition of an instant family completes it. It's just a satisfying, wholesome read with a cute ending.

Loved this rivals to more, brother's best friend combo! This one was filled with so much fun, laughter, swoony moments, and character growth!

Ellie Hall does a wonderful job of showcasing how perceptions can be different between two people who experienced the same events. And I loved how she included the idea of perception, especially as teenagers, and how that can change with experience.

Redd and Whit were such a fun enemies/rivals to more couple and the added element of having Redd's sister, Blue, involved in the story was great. That really cracked their tough outer shells in the best way. Their pasts were so intriguing from the beginning and Hall did a great job at slowly trickling in the details. I loved seeing Whit's ease with Blue and her constant draw towards Redd even though she tried not to. The growth they both experienced from high school to now and how this helped their current relationship, was so well done. They worked so well together in the good times and the hard times and I loved seeing them communicate so well once they opened up to each other.
