Soul Obsession

Rate this book
Mothers, hear me. My fate cannot lie beneath another man.

Astrid understood her virginity would be traded like a gambling marker. For all her power, her father only saw her worth within the constraints of a marital bed. She was a princess, blessed with soul-weaving magic. A symbol of Clorea. A commodity to be exploited for the success and longevity of her kingdom—only to have a soul drinking assassin decimate her family and court.

I would kill a god to possess her.

Dimitri was a death spirit, an assassin. But fear sours the soul. He’d taken thousands, each leaving the putrid taste of rot on his tongue. All except her. Infatuated with the taste of Astrid’s vicious soul, Dimitri claims her as his right of conquest and vows she will never escape him.

A Soul Weaver and Soul Drinker Clash

Abducted and forcibly married to the demented soul drinker, Astrid recognizes Dimitri as a sword fate has placed in her path. It is now up to her to determine if she’s meant to wield him, or if he’s a razored-edge destined for her throat.

Fate is not meant to be easy.
It’s meant to be traversed.

Thank you to the author, Kalista Neith, for the e-ARC. All opinions are honest and my own.

CW/TW: dubious consent/no consent, murder, death, torture, death of a parent (past and present), captor/captive relationship dynamic, sadistic male main character (MMC), explicit language, explicit sexual content, on page sex, religion

I plan to write some reviews, including this one over the weekend. This book pubs on May 17th.

I will say now, if you like a book loaded with sex, BING, you’ve got a winner. I know this is a captive/captor romance (truly, no weird slave dynamics here) but I was like please, no more banging I need to see more plot progression outside of the bedroom.

Loved the book! It was a fun and rather fast paced standalone. It’s a dark romantasy, so there are definitely dark themes and scenes, check TW if you have any!

Having said that, I really recommend if you wanna read a hot dark romantasy with a fmc that’s sassy yes, but is smart and cunning. I appreciated her being calculating and cunning to get what she wanted. It was refreshing to the more usual sassy, but not really smart fmcs you often find in romantasy lol

Don’t get me started on Dimitri who’s most definitely a walking red flag, but he’s so good 😏🫠 if you want a possessive and obsessed mmc, shadow daddy vibes, look no further.

This book’s spicy, there are a lot of sexy times, but we still have plot that goes with it, so if you like some plot with your spicy books, this should work for you.

If you wanna know more about what k!nks they have, look at my tags below. I wouldn’t say the k!nks are the main focus on the sexy times like in other dark romances or erot!ca, but they do have some!

I received an ARC copy, but all opinions are my own.

✨Received an ARC✨

Khalistan did it again!

Astrid and Dimitri are two strong characters who are lead to each other.

Both are a little messed up and are perfect for each other. I loved Dimitri and my heart goes out to him.

A great read!

I really enjoyed this book, and two morally charcoal villains was such a fun concept and read. I will say that the reason its not a 5 for me is that it is really spice heavy at the front and yes its listed in as a trigger warning but there is a lot of threats of sexual violence which I didn’t have a problem with but after a while it did get a little repetitive and in my opinion get in the way of the plot. I like my spice don’t get me wrong but I am a plot girlie for the most part and I would be getting into the plot but then Astrid would do something so Dimitri would threaten her sexually (usually the threat of anal) and then it would lead to spicy time after which we would be back in the plot only for it to all repeat again within a few pages. This happened a lot at the start, that it felt like it was rinsing and repeating and I just wanted to get to the kingdom take over aspect of the plot. Now this did temper off towards the end and I felt it was the perfect blend of the plot moving forward and the continuing of spice.
Now, the FMC was badass and who literally took prisoners to take apart and play with. She was no soft princess waiting for a prince to come rescue her. She was quite able and willing to take on the job of bringing about the downfall of her rival country and to take it over from within. Especially since that was her only option as her kingdom, while willing to use her brains and talents was not willing to put her on the throne as she was a girl. By talent I mean her ability as a soul weaver which would allow her to prolong the agony of her targets, usually in an interrogation situation. It was a really cool ability. I loved how no matter what her situation she literally never stopped either fighting back or plotting not just her escape but how to take down those who worked against her. She was not only a thinker but a doer as well.
With Dimitri he was such a conundrum because yes he unalived a lot of people close to her which lead to the take over of her kingdom and he also took her as his war prize and did a lot of shit to her but he also was very receptive to her needs and wants and honestly he just wanted someone to love and to love him back and to take care of anything she needed. A garden with fruits for just her to eat or a temple to practice her worship to name a few of the bigger items. Like he would always reply just ask for the stars but then he would always find a way to get her what he needed. It was really sweet and honestly, he is just broken because of his past and because of that he was just very possessive of his new prize. In an unhinged way they are perfect for each other and while it will never be an easy life for either of them, I think that is perfect because a quite life would bore them to tears. The fights physically or mentally are just what works for them.
Overall, cool concept, loved the characters and when the plot was plotting I really enjoyed the book I just wish there had been a smidge less spice at the start and it hadn’t been as repetitive.
This book is about Astrid; a princess of her country who has always known she and her virginity was a commodity that would be traded for the benefit of her kingdom. After all, as much as her family wants to use her talents without giving her the recognition, she is in the end a woman and is unable to inherit the throne. Those talents include her soul weaving ability that has been used for the success and longevity of her country. No one was immune from her magic... that is until a soul drinking assassin arrived with her fiancé only to decimate her family and advisors, and she is taken as a war prize not for her betrothal but rather for the assassin. The assassin’s name is Dimitri, and he is a death spirit who drinks souls but has grown tired of the taste it has left in his mouth as the fear felt taints the soul. That is until he tastes Astrid malicious soul and becomes obsessed with its sublime taste. So, he takes her and vows that she will never escape him. Now just because Astrid has been taken and doesn’t mean she will give in to her captor so she will continue to fight and plot against him as she sees this as just a rough path fate has laid out to her to eventually get to her goal of ruling her kingdom. But overtime she starts recognizing that Dimitri may be a sword that has also been put into her path in order for her to wield it against all who would stand against her. If they can survive each other that is.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was very similar to Split or Swallow when it comes to the spice—same level of heat and just as much of it. I was hooked. Even when it got close to non-con, it was seriously hot. The story itself was great too, and I adored the FMC—she was just perfect and super stabby! If I didn’t have responsibilities I would have devoured it in one sitting.

Enjoy!!

This was a good story, super well written with interesting characters and a great premise. Unfortunately, it non-conned too close to the sun and almost became a dnf because two-thirds of the book felt dangerously involuntary. Also, the number of times the phrase 'night-streaked nails' was used did legitimately drive me up the wall.

Dnf’d @ 15%.
When a trigger warning said ‘improper use of swords’ I was expecting it to be a little more…warranted? Maybe a touch of heat to it at the least.
Was very put off by the fact that it was in-fact a R*pe & A*ssult scenario.
Furthermore to that, FMCs behaviour throughout the whole ordeal and afterwards was flat.
I just could not force myself to keep going.

Discovering Kalista Neith's special flavor of dark fantasy has been one of my favorite finds since jumping back into my love for all things reading. Needless to say, I was thrilled to have a chance to read her latest upcoming novella, Soul Obsession.

If you've read any of Kalista's other books, Soul Obsession, takes the dark in dark romantasy to a whole other level...so definitely read those trigger warnings in advance because the two main characters in this book have depths of deviousness that really pushes the boundaries. They bring their own toxic twist to what it means to have a romantic relationship...but it 100% works for them!

Just as you would expect from Kalista, in Soul Obsession, she creates a fantasy world that is rich in its politics and powerful in the statements it makes about classicism, prejudice, what it means to be truly seen and accepted and the incredible power of a woman who is fully unleashed!

If you like an FMC who is fiercely independent, savagely strategic, knows her worth and makes sure no one forgets it, then Astrid is definitely your girl! She is the princess of Clorea and a soul weaver who stitches together torture like its her second skin. Crafting with bone jewelry has nothing on Astrid's skills. This is a woman who plays the ultimate long game and she is coldly calculating in achieving her goals. Also, I want to take a moment to appreciate and celebrate Kalista's putting an Asian FMC front and center in a role of power and authority.

Astrid definitely meets her match in the devastating force that is Dimitri, a death spirit and assassin from the rival kingdom of Ledivion. Dimitri conquers all that he touches and takes his claims of conquests very seriously, and the Princess of Clorea is no exception! She becomes his most prized possession, and he is determined to possess her in every way. Now, be warned, Dimitri is a man cloaked in red flag apparel, who is much more likely to show his affection by giving his partner a garden of razor blades than to do anything overly sentimental. However, Kalista does a great job of layering lots of complexities into this man. Readers get painful and traumatic glimpses into Dimitri's past, which is filled with rejection, hurt and a long buried need to belong.

When these two characters collide, it starts a chain of reactions that will reshape the future of their respective kingdoms forever. In each other, Astrid and Dimitri, find someone who not only sees all of the darkness and depth of who they are but who appreciates it. As the plot progresses, Kalista strikes an incredible balance of having Astrid and Dimitri remain true to who they are, while still evolving their relationship in way that feels organic to their characters.

If you are looking for a dark romantasy whose action moves quickly and where the main couple's power struggle both in and out of the bedroom leaves scorch marks behind in the best of ways, then you definitely want to grab Soul Obsession now!

This is a standalone dark, captive/captor romance set in a fantasy setting. There are numerous very dark elements to this story so please read the trigger warnings. I received an advance review copy and my thoughts are my own. Thank you to the author for my eArc.

Tropes and themes include:
✨Enemies to lovers (including attempted murders)
✨Fae
✨Unhinged, possessive MMC
✨Touch him/her and die
✨Forced proximity
✨Soul magic
✨Royalty
✨Both are morally questionable

Rating: 4/5 Stars 4/5 Flames

The Lovely: First off, love we have a standalone - sometimes you need a break from series and this delivers. I loved the concept of soul magic in this book and how their different types of soul magic were intertwined. I found the type of soul magic itself to be unique and intriguing - would definitely read more with this.

The Mundane: While I like super spicy books, especially when it comes to dark romance, the spice and related character interactions felt repetitive after a while. I think it was because the spice didn’t seem to be furthering the plot or their relationship, and generally took place in the same location each time.

Recommendation: I hesitate to call this fantasy romance as it is more like dark romance in a fantasy world with magic. I think it’s important to set that expectation going in because there are some elements of dark romance readers might find upsetting, especially if dark romance is not something you typically read (non-con, dub-con, toys, degradation). If you like dark, spicy romance with a fantasy twist of soul magic, I think you would like this book.

This was my first book by Kalista Neith, and wow—what a ride! Soul Obsession is a fast-paced, dark romantasy filled with enemies-to-lovers tension, an absolutely fierce FMC, and one dangerously addictive shadow daddy MMC.

Astrid, our soul-weaving princess, is everything I want in a main character—independent, clever, strategic, and unapologetically ruthless. The soul weaving concept? So twisted and cool. The idea of stitching souls together—sometimes with literal body parts—sounds wild, but it works so well in this world. She's a leader who knows how to play the long game and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty.

Then there's Dimitri. A death spirit assassin from an enemy kingdom, and a walking, talking red flag—but also obsessed, possessive, and painfully broken in all the right ways. His past is heartbreaking, and it makes every intense moment between him and Astrid hit even harder. Together, they're chaotic, dangerous, and completely magnetic. Their bond isn't easy, but the way they evolve as a couple—while staying totally unhinged—is chef's kiss.

This book is very spicy—like capital S spicy. Personally, I wouldn't have minded just a bit more plot and a touch less spice, but that’s just my take.

Overall, I loved it, and I’m 100% checking out more from Kalista Neith. Thank you so much for the ARC!

Kalista’s writing is seriously addicting. She creates such Unique Fantasy Worlds and this one is no different. I was super excited to learn that this book was about the fae!

Soul Obsession is a Dark Romantasy Standalone. So definitely check out the TW!

I must say I absolutely hands down loved Kalista’s Last FMC (Faye) in her Of Chaos And Darkness Series but Kalista has really out done herself with this FMC (Astrid) not going to lie she is my favorite! She is one fierce FMC! I did find myself giggling at her comments towards the MMC in this one! She just has such a fire to her that honestly you can’t help but love her!

This is a True Enemies To Lovers and I honestly couldn’t get enough of the banter between FMC(Astrid) & MMC (Dimitri). Seriously addicting!

Dimitri what can I say other than he is the true definition of YUM! He definitely brings the unhinged possessive shadow daddy energy! There are times that you do see glimpses of his past and honestly it broke my heart for him.

Kalista 100% brought the spice in this one! And let me tell you this one is SPICY SPICY ( blushed a few times 🤣). I would say this one is heavy on spice but Kalista does such a great job incorporating the plot.

I would definitely recommend this one if you are looking for a Fast Pace, True Enemies to Lovers, Dark Romantasy Standalone.

Reading Soul Obsession was such a unique and captivating experience—in the best way. This dark fantasy romance leans heavily into both the dark and the romance, so if you’re in the mood for something with less plot and more spice, this one’s for you. I’d say it’s about 75% spice, 25% plot—and that balance totally worked for me.

Astrid and Dimitri are deliciously morally dark, and I loved watching them give in to their violent tendencies while still sharing these unexpectedly tender, intimate moments. That duality really drew me in.

As someone who identifies with the AAPI community, I appreciated seeing Astrid’s Asian heritage woven into the world Kalista created—it felt meaningful and made me feel seen in a genre that often overlooks that kind of representation.

Also, watching Astrid embrace her freedom with Dimitri—especially after a lifetime of being silenced in her father’s court—was so empowering.

And as a lifelong Vampire Academy stan… a love interest named Dimitri who speaks Russian and has wings? I was doomed from the start.

Please check all the TW/CW before reading this book.

Holy crap did I love this! Dimitri and Astrid are two psychotic peas in a pod. The flirting to threatening ratio is spot on for a dark true enemies to lovers. The immaculate banter, *chef's kiss*
Dimitri might be my new favorite winged male. The ratio of unhinged deranged thoughts mixed with the quiet softer moments are what truly make you fall in love with him.
Astrid meets him hit for hit. She is a strong female, who knows what she wants and is unafraid to get her hands dirty in order to get it.
I devoured this book, however, do take my advice though and learn from my mistakes. I don't exactly recommend reading this at work between customers, you will be blushing. The spice is spicy. Do be aware of your warnings with this, because the line of consent is used as a jump rope.
I would say it's about 70% spice to 30% plot. It doesn't feel like it's pure spice. The plot does mix quite well but I do wish some things happened a little bit sooner in the story so that they could have been fleshed out a bit more.
As a whole, this is an immensely fun ride that I cannot recommend enough if you're looking for a true enemies to lovers, forced proximity, romanticy.

🌌✨ Just finished Kalista Neith's latest dark romantasy novella, Soul Obsession, and OMG, it’s a SPICY ride! If you're a fan of dark fantasy, you need to dive into this wild world where two villains fall head over heels for each other. Trust me, read those trigger warnings because Kalista takes the "dark" to a whole new level with her characters’ toxic yet captivating relationship. From the moment you meet Astrid, the fiercely independent princess, and Dimitri, the devastating death spirit assassin, you’ll be hooked! This duo perfectly embodies the complexities of love and power, and I can't get enough!

💔🔮 Kalista’s world-building is on point—rich with politics and commentary on classism and acceptance. I love how she gives us a powerful Asian FMC who knows her worth and commands respect! The chemistry between Astrid and Dimitri is electric, their dynamic filled with tension and passion that leaves scorch marks everywhere. As they navigate their twisted relationship, you'll find yourself rooting for them, no matter how dark their paths may be. If you’re craving quick-paced action and a battle of wills in and out of the bedroom, grab Soul Obsession ASAP—you won't regret it! 🔥📚

Astrid is a soul weaver and the princess and of Clorea who enjoys torturing some prisoners on the side, we all need a hobby, and defying her father’s sexist ideolody. She has a feisty spirit and when her hand in marriage is promised to the Ledivion King she comes up with her own plan: to burn the kingdom to the ground and return to Clorea to claim the crown that is rightfully her. Things don’t go exactly as planned once Dimitri enters the picture and destroys her plans and takes her captive.
Dimitri is a soul drinker, an assassin for his kingdom that is definitely hiding secrets. The moment he sees Astrid’s defiance and determination not to be the perfect little princess everyone wants her to be he knows that he must have her and she fights him every step of the way and this only intrigues him more. Between fighting each other, plotting revenge and schemes, political turmoil and very morley grey characters who do not shy away from who they truly are and the violence that they have this is an amazing book that I cannot recommend enough.

Kalista may say this book is 80% smut and 20% plot... and as much as I agree with that the plot is definitely plotting! I loved this book so much, and was completely here for the dominating of one another and the fact neither character changed at the end of the book, they stayed true to the morally grey FMC & MMC.(you know when really they were just misunderstood and are truly not that bad) No! these characters actively wanted to dominate each other and were both a little stabby (did you see the cover?? they are literally holding knifes behind their back)

I don't really know what to say other than you should absolutely read this book if you like a darker Fantasy Romance. If you are not convinced enjoy this quote "if anyone looked upon my wife's naked body," "I would revoke the privilege of their existence"

so yeah.... I spent half the book fanning myself from the spice and the other half kicking my feet giggling from the top tier banter. so please.....go read this book.

True Enemies to Lovers

This book is now one of my favorites, it hits hard with Enemies to Lovers and the multiple attempts to finish the other person. Will forever be a comfort read for me when I need a strong FMC.

***Spoilers***

She tries to take him out more than he does her, his is nearly an instant love situation. That being said, please listen to the trigger warnings and take them to heart. I will add a trigger warning involving eyes. This is not a book for everyone, but if you always craved a story where the FMC is incredibly strong and never truly let's up then this is for you. There is a happily ever after and although it ends with love she doesn't really "soften" and even gifts him with some of the same treatment he provides her. Some would consider Astrid as being "too much" but her level of bloodthirst is absolute perfection. Nothing is better than a confident, violent, and powerful woman.

ONE WORD: VICIOUS!!! This story is viciously dirty and deliciously filthy and I love it! These two were absolutely made for each other! So much smexy time! Astrid is a force to be reckoned with and Dimitri….😮‍💨, I want me one of those! I seriously enjoyed every inch 😉 of this book!

So there may have been a lot of spicy times (like seriously every chapter I swear), but I would still consider this a slow burn in many ways! The relationship they built through the book took a long time and many obstacles to get to the end, and what an end it was! I loved the constant back and forth, the way their personalities complimented each other, and how they grew to trust one another!

I have another word to describe this book: UNHINGED! And it was absolutely amazing! Seriously recommend if you like very shabby FMC’s and super obsessive and unhinged MMC’s! Well done Kalista!! 👏👏👏

If you are a fan of Dark Romance but in a Fantasy setting with Fae, Unhinged Possessive MMC, Wingspan, Captor/Captive, Enemies to Lovers, Forced Proximity, Touch Him/Her and 💀, Dubious Consent, A Sprinkle of Non-Con and so much more, this one is for you! Always check the TWs

In Soul Obsession we meet Astrid, a tough soul weaver, who enjoys torturing prisoners but when she is promised to the Ledivion king as a bride she will do anything in her power to burn it down until Dimitri throws a wrench in her plans and captures her.

The moment Dimitri sees her he knows she will be his no matter what his king or anyone has to say and will use her to his own means.

But Astrid fights him every single step of the way while plotting her escape, she does not make it easy on Dimitri and he just loves the fight in her.

Kalista does not false advertise friend’s spice is the focus of the book with the plot being there in the background, it focuses on the push and pull of Astrid and Dimitri, the vicious banter between them and oh the spice 😮‍💨

Astrid just wants her rightful place on the throne of her kingdom, will Dimitri stand in her way or become a weapon for her to wield? Find out in Soul Obsession!

This is a Dark Smutty Fantasy book. 10000000000000000% check trigger warnings before you read it.

I did receive this as an arc from Kalista, unfortunately my health issues delayed my reading a bit. I did devour this in about 3 days.

There was smut in almost every single chapter and my husband reaped the benefits of me reading this book. This is not your typical fantasy book. There isn't a ton of world building, nor is there a ton of plot per se. The plot of this book is smut and Astrid existing between her thoughts on escaping or growing towards her captor.

It was a genuinely good read.

I only docked stars because I grew tired of Astrids midnight streaked nails and Dimitri's molten gold eyes. Also Dimitri was a very frustrating character. There was no point where I enjoyed him as a character.

I’m a little late to the ARC review because life has been busy BUT thank you Kalista for the opportunity to arc read another book of yours ❤️

If you go into this book expecting something similar to Invoking the Blood, think again because boy is this different and definitely darker! I tend to stray away from dark romances now, but I love Kalista’s writing and other books so of course I read this one.

5⭐️, 4🌶️

READ THE TRIGGERS FIRST! If they pass your triggers test, then you’ll love this. This book is truly spice over plot. There is SO MUCH banging, but I’m not complaining. You put an MMC with wings in front of me and I’m SOLD.

The storyline itself was really interesting with the souls aspect. True enemies to lovers as well. Some of the things that happen in this made me blush and look around to make sure no one could see what I was reading 😂

Anyway if you want a dark romantasy (and I mean pretty dark), read this now please and thanks 🤗🤗🤗

A kingdom burns. A princess is claimed. And fate sharpens its blade.

Soul Obsession is dark, brutal, and magnetic—a battle of wills wrapped in blood and magic. Astrid, a soul-weaving princess bound by duty, refuses to be bartered like coin. But when her court is slaughtered and her body claimed by Dimitri—a soul-drinking assassin obsessed with her—she is thrust into a war that is anything but fair.

This is no love story. It’s a reckoning—intimate, savage, and unforgettable. Predator and prey blur, and Astrid must decide whether to wield the monster fate has delivered, or be destroyed by him.

Sharp as a blade. Fierce as fate. Soul Obsession doesn’t ask for your soul—it devours it.

Please check trigger warnings before purchasing or reading this book!

Oh my this book through me through a loop but I absolutely loved every minute of it. The obsession, the Secrets, The Spice had me drooling over this book. Talk about 80% spice and 20% plot had me kicking my feet like a giddy school girl. Our FMC is sold to a cruel king but she has a plan. The MMC see's her and he knows he must possess her. He wants her heart but she wants his head and wings. They battle for dominance and her submission( but my queen gets on her knee's for no man! Well maybe once). He would do anything to have her loyalty and she wants her crown. Can these two get it together to finally get on the same page. Guess you will have to read it to find out. If you enjoy a quick smutty book then Souls Obsession is the book for you.

Kalista was not kidding when she said this was 80% filth / 20% plot. Although I would lean more 70/30. the political intrigur here keeps you flipping pages right alongside the scorchingly hot spice.

Dimitri is a brute to start. Astrid is hell bent on taking him out and leading her people. They are at each other's throats for at least 75% of the book before they both pull their head out of their asses.

The start of their story does not a love story make. But it's a hell of a love story by the end. That girl gets dicked down any chance he gets and she still threatens to cut off his wings so that love is hard won!

Her dislike of his wings all the way through the epilogue is a little disappointing but she's coming around 😂

I loved it. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

This intense and captivating dark fantasy romance kept me hooked from start to finish. Astrid, a powerful princess with soul-weaving magic, is forced into a twisted marriage with Dimitri, a ruthless assassin who sees her as his prize. Their violent power struggle is thrilling and darkly addictive, with moments of surprisingly tender connection amid the chaos. Astrid is a fiercely independent character who is unapologetically calculating and powerful, which makes her so satisfying to read. Dimitri is the perfect match for her with his complex past and possessive nature. While the book leans heavily on spice over plot, the chemistry between them and the morally grey dynamics kept me engrossed. Definitely a wild, addictive ride for fans of dark romance.

This one was scorching—definitely erotica with a paranormal romantasy edge. Kalista Neith doesn't hold back, and while I appreciated many of the steamy moments and the intensity, the story went darker than my personal comfort zone allows. Pain and pleasure can dance beautifully, but this one crossed into territory that was a little darker than I am comfortable with.

That said, readers who enjoy brutal, edgy spice in their paranormal romance will likely find a lot to love. It’s unapologetically dark, boundary-pushing, and delivers exactly what it promises.

Thank you to Kalista Neith for the opportunity to read an early copy and be part of the journey ♡

Wow, can I just take a minute to say wow! Dmitri was it me for, yes, he was possessive, obessessive, unemotional (most of the time), and there are reasons for this. But, he was also strong, intelligent, and assertive. Then there was Astrid; she was hot in ways which just had taken my breath away. She was intelligent, independent, strong, brave, and had that dark side that you don't mess with. Both were chef's kisses, and together were mouthwatering. The storyline was spicy and fast-paced. It was a story with tension, whether it was political or sexual, and the journey both MCs had taken was exciting and intriguing. This was an enjoyable read for me, and if you're looking for a dark romance fantasy read, then this is it.

My rating is actually 3.5 stars but goodreads doesn't allow for half stars.

So this is a dark romantic sea and we have captive and villain, enemies to lovers, morally Gray characters, a strong FMC, and a brooding MMC. Astrid is the daughter of the king of Korea and is a soul Weaver, her father sells her to the highest bidder in an arranged marriage. However, things don’t go to plan. Dimitri is an assassin to the king who bought Astrid‘s hand in marriage And is a soul drinker. He slaughter her court and claims her as his right of conquest. So firstly there are trigger warnings for this book and I would definitely suggest these are taken into consideration before reading.

I enjoyed it for the most part, I liked the plot, the writing style was good, the characters are well developed and had good depth to them. I loved Astrid, she is strong volatile and violent and won’t take anyone’s shit.

So overall it was a good read. I would have liked to see a bit more angst when it came to Astrid and Dimitri, drawing out their relationship, a bit more slowburn, than wham bam thank you ma’am, but that is just a personal preference.

Now when it comes to vulgarity and swear words, I’m not bothered by it having a bit of a potty mouth myself, unless it is the CU next Tuesday word, I hate it with a passion, particularly when it is referencing lady parts, it puts me right off if I’m honest, and if I heard that Dimitri was going to F Astrid up the arse one more time, it was just too much for me but again this is my personal preference and others will no doubt be all for it, and as I said, I liked the writing style, and it didn’t stop me from reading it.

So if you are all about dark romantic and you live for the sea word, then this one is definitely for you.
