The Coven had thankfully gone back to shunning Thea after the Silas debacle. Unfortunately, the brutal murders of several hedge witches leaves everyone involved with no option.
They must present a united front—with Thea as the liaison between AID and the Coven.
Thea finds motivation in the form of wanting to relieve Jax of the guilt he feels for mentoring the victims.
The investigation opens doors within the Coven for Thea. However distasteful she finds the skeletons in the Coven’s closets, the knowledge she gains could be just what she needs to get to the bottom of the mystery before it’s too late for the unaffiliated witches in the city.
Early leads point to a literal witch hunt. Keeping the peace as tensions rise in the magical community is not conducive to getting the answers every side is demanding.
Solving the murders can’t be as simple as identifying non-magicals taking out a vendetta against the seemingly unprotected witches outside the Coven? Right?

The farther we get into the series, the more I like Thea and her friends. They seem to have a pretty close knit team, and Brandon and Thea are starting to grow a different type of relationship other than just friends. Thea’s coven mother is such a jerk in these books. She doesn’t like Thea and is trying to figure out ways to strip her of her magic. I also think her coven mother is jealous of Thea, because I think Thea is probably more powerful than she is. The coven is also supposed to protect the less powerful witches, but they are not doing a very good job of that either. Thea ends up kicking some good butt in this book and she does learn a little bit more about how her parents died and the fact that she had another person related to her that was still alive and that she did not know about. I will definitely be reading the next book in this series.
Even though the first few pages were hard to get through ( The always shows up in these type of stories, The D&D game episode. ) I reslised that I was 90% through the book and it didn't seem so long. The usual, problems leading up to the biggest problem, then solution. It didn't occur in this book, she was just finding out about the problem, then all of a sudden, we are at the end. I thought it got resolved too quickly, but it was logically consistent. Like the heroine figured it out, off camera. When you're used to being in the mind of the person, which is how it's supposed to be, you feel cheated when she comes up with something from left field. Anyways, getting back on track, it was a smooth storyline, and you don't even notice you're coming to the end of the story. To me, that's a sign of a good story.
Thea, her familiar Kira, and the rest of AID team fight a group killing witches.
Thea and Kira have been working together to manage the power from the Lake of Power. They are also still working with Brandon and Jax from Aid. But things had been slow for several months until the night three hedge witches were tortured and killed then put on display for all to see. This started the battle with the man called Holy Man. A maniac that has developed way to much power and wants more.
Kira faces another lunatic who wants more power and plans to destroy the world. This one has a strong link and knowledge of her parents and their death. Kira also has to come to grips with the involvement the Coven Monther has in that past event too - the death of her parents. Action and Magic Fights abound. The search for the missing hedge witches seemed to get lost somehow and again there didn't seem to be much impetus to find them or solve the mystery. Small amount of romance for those who really look for that.
Good storyline and good action. The characters continue to grow closer and build a well-oiled team. The bad guys continue to get stronger and cause lots of higher level trouble. That dirty word “politics” has crept into the plot. I liked it and am anxiously awaiting book 5.
The author continues to reveal more of the main storyline as these books progress. Our main POVs life is explored as well as the team bonding she's doing with her workforce. She's finally realized these people are more than just friends, they're the family she's missing.
A powerful series, entertaining and enjoyable!!!!!
Congratulations to Isobel Campbell and Michael Anderle for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such interesting and e,xciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.
I have enjoyed following Thea, Brandon, Jax,Mia and Kira as they and the AID agents combat the missusers of magic and protect the mundane world.I look forward to the next book
Another step further in finding out the truth. A few surprises, but chocolate remains a major food group. (LOL) The things some will do...geez. Good story...
The past six months have been easy.on Theara. The team have gotten closer. Then a call comes in three murders of Hedge Witches. They are off again on a dangerous adventure. Who is doing this the mystery begins!
Three hedge witches are tortured and killed. This causes an uprising in the hedge community, as Thea's coven was supposed to protect them. Other skeletons in the coven closet reveal who actually ordered her parents death.
This is a fast paced book, with lots of various magical and supernatural parts. Thea the heroine along with Jaz and Brandon are part of an AID team. Still need more story, reaching for Book 5.
