A Dog Called Ducky

Rate this book
Ducky, the adorable Yorkie with 2.3M TikTok followers and legions more fans on Instagram and YouTube, makes the leap to fiction with this heartwarming and romantic novel—the second in The Dog Agency Novels—with strong messages of inclusion, anti-bullying, and self-love. For fans of Melinda Metz, Victoria Schade, and Annie England Noblin.

One hot fall day, schoolteacher Layla Sanford arrives at her cozy home to find she has two guests. One is a tiny, adorable Yorkie in a cable-knit sweater and a fuzzy yellow ducky hat. The other is Layla’s best friend Christine, Ducky’s beloved person and momager. Ducky, after all, is no regular dog. He’s a TikTok star with millions of followers, making up in personality and photogenic appeal what he lacks in size.

Layla agrees to watch Ducky while Christine is called away for work and is quickly charmed by the miniature mutt. Ducky instinctively seems to know how to cheer people up, whether it’s by picking out the perfect canine costume or gravitating to Lucas, a shy, lonely new student in Christine’s class.

Layla isn’t the only person concerned about Lucas. Garrett, Layla’s handsome colleague, is also worried about the little boy. But it’s Ducky who comes to the rescue, becoming Lucas’s unlikely protector and a class mascot, beloved by all the students—and the whole town. So when the school lunch program is cut and the community is threatened by rumors of a plant closure, Ducky might just be the hero the town never knew they needed. The Yorkie’s loving personality brings Layla and Garrett together—and inspires them to find ways to bring more joy to their small town, spreading Ducky’s message of self-love and acceptance as only a loyal, funny, feisty little dog can do . . .

This is a cute story about Ducky & his adventures staying with his mom’s friend. She is a school teacher and has an elderly neighbor who needs company. At first, he helps to keep the neighbor company. Then, he also helps the school and children too.

Ducky is a real life, instagram famous dog. If I were the one writing this book, I probably would have put pictures every 15 pages or so to build on the cuteness that Ducky has in real life. I also would have shortened the story itself quite a bit. It felt a little longwinded at times and, especially in the beginning, had a lot of parts that didn’t seem to relate to Ducky. I would have preferred to have more parts from Ducky’s point of view too instead of the humans.

I think this will be cute for a lot of people especially Ducky’s real life fans. But I do wish it was more exciting or just shortened to highlight the better parts.

Title: A Dog Called Ducky
Author: Amanda K. Morgan
Format: eBook
Publisher: Kensington Publishing
Publication Date: January 21, 2025
Themes: Animal care, family, pets, human/animal bond

This is a pleasant and cute story about a little Yorkshire Terrier. Ducky has his own Instagram and Tik Tok page and it's adorable and entertaining, which is what the reader can expect from this book.

This is a feel-good book for animal lovers. As Ducky’s mom goes out of town, Ducky is passed from person to person and we get to hear each story of how Ducky affects the lives of his friend and family while waiting for his mom, Christine, to come home. As this type of book does, the reader is touched by each human and dog interaction and it makes us want to hug our dogs a few extra times. The writing style is easy to read if maybe a little dry at times. I do wish this book had been a little shorter as it felt long-winded at times.

All in all, a great book for animal lovers, fans of Ducky’s social media, and human interest enthusiasts’. I recommend and will check out the rest of the book in the Dog Agency Series as this is book number two.

Ducky is a Yorkshire Terrier that is famous on TikTok, along with his Mom, Christine. This is book 2 in the Dog Agency Novels series. Christine asks her friend Layla, who is a second grade teacher, if she would watch Ducky while she had to take care of some business, and Layla agreed. While Layla is at work, she ashed her neighbor, Mr. Rogers, if he would watch Ducky. He has lost his wife and gets lonely, and he said he would.
Ducky takes us on his journey of making a difference in people's lives, making people smile, and when he had to go to school with Layla, and he met a boy named Lucas. Ducky sensed something was going on with Lucas, and he went to him. A lot happens after that encounter, which inspires, people learn, and life changes for so many. It is a story that nourished my soul.
I received an ARC from Kensington Publishing through NetGalley.

I really wanted to enjoy this book because I own a miniature Yorkie, who means the world to me. Just like Ducky, my dog significantly impacts my life and emotional stability. However, I found the book to be drawn out to the point where it became difficult to keep reading.

I appreciated how Ducky influenced the lives of the people he interacted with throughout the story. As a dog lover, I admire their ability to notice things that often go unnoticed by humans. In that sense, this book reminded me of "Chicken Soup for the Soul." However, it felt like there was a lot of unnecessary content that could have been cut.

Disclosure: I did get an advanced copy of this book to review in exchange for an honest opinion, thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Publishing.

After a long, stressful day, curling up with the sweet and heartwarming tale of Ducky the Dog was the perfect way to unwind.
Garrett and Layla’s bond is so charming, but honestly, every character in this story is just lovable. With over 40 short chapters, the book keeps it light and easy to read. Some chapters are from a human’s perspective, while others are from Ducky’s (and I promise, those chapters will definitely bring a smile to your face!).
This isn’t the kind of book that will have you on the edge of your seat, but rather one that invites you to sit back, relax, cuddle with your own furry friend, and enjoy.

A Yorkshire terrier named Ducky is the great TikTok sensation. Layla is asked by her bestie to take care of Ducky for her while she’s out of town. As the story progresses Ducky helps people heal from tragedy and interacts with a young boy named Lucas who seems to be in trouble. Will Ducky help Lucas? Maybe a lovable dog brings a widower and a school teacher together? Can one dog have a profound impact a community? This book moved me as I have 3 small dogs and enjoy them so much. It’s amazing what a dogs unconditional love can do.

This book isn't my normal genre, but figured I'd give it a go being the dog addict that I am. This was a cute read, and not too long of a book. It made for a fun Sunday afternoon, and it wasn't too emotionally taxing like some of the other books I read over the weekend. I definitely hopped on tiktok afterwards to start following Ducky the Yorkie. Definitely recommend to other dog lovers out there!

Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced listening copy audiobook. I follow Ducky the yorkie on his social media because he is cute and I luv watching his dress up videos so I was destined to read this book. I also liked how this story was told from Ducky's point of view so we can see what he does in his everyday life. What the story mostly focuses on is what I thought were high school students at first, but they were actually in elementary. Duck also spends time with Mr Roers a lot and they even threw a little fashion show at the end. I would probably read this book again because there were some moments that made me chuckle and caught my attention throughout it all.

I'm a fan of dog stories. I'd never heard of Ducky before this but I enjoyed his journey and the way he helped the various people he spends time with. This is perhaps a bit too long but it reads quickly and you'll find yourself smiling. Thanks to netgalley for the arC. A relaxing read.

Recieved this as an arc for an honest review. While this book is cute it wasn’t personally for me. It was not entertaining mostly because everything on the cover and surrounding the book is focused more on social media than anything and it over shines the book and the story.

Lucky Ducky

This was a cute story with a happy ending. Anyone who loves dogs will love this book. I'm giving this 4 stars because it took quite a long time to get really interesting and there were lots of errors in the book.

Cute Read

If you lovekids and dogs, especially famous dogs, you’ll love this story and all of its satisfying lessons. Ducky steals every scene as the narrator, but you can’t helpbit enjoy Layla, Garrett, Mr. Rogers and Christine as well.

I’m afraid this just wasn’t for me. I generally like dog stories but I just couldn’t connect with any of the characters, including Ducky. I found reading the book a bit of a slog.

Cute story but quite a few editing errors and misinformation definitely detracted from the story. This is a good book for dog lovers
