PEEK

With barely a warning, he spun around and pinned me to the wall, his hand pulling my wrists up over my head. "You don't want to go there," his warning was stern, and his eyes squinted. He was staring straight into my eyes, and the grey blue of his iris's flickered with fire, "What you turn on, you may not be able to turn off."

My breathing was shallow, and my hunger oozing from within. I wanted to taste his lips, wanted to reach out - kiss me, I willed him to move closer, but instead he let go of my hands and turned to walk away.

"Don't go," I whispered, begging him to stay with me. "I'm so lonely."

He stopped, bent his head down, "I'm sorry, but I don't play by the rules."

"What rules? I'm asking you to touch me," I whimpered.

Turning around, "Rebecca, you're a lovely woman, but I can't unleash my lust on you. I need more than a regular sexual relationship, so much more. I need control."

I was curious - as a strong and independent woman, could I give up control? I honestly didn't know, but had no idea what kind of control he meant. I'd only learn later.

This is a well written short story with great characters. This is the first book I have read from this author, and I will be looking for more of her work. This was a quick easy read for me. I think you will enjoy this one.

Rebecca and Jake both had histories with emotional baggage. I find men who cheat and then leave a spouse for a younger woman to be scum. Rebecca took all the nasty things her ex-husband to heart and went into hiding from life. In this short story we follow her journey to the lonely ranch she works by herself to prove her worth to her self. Quiet, hard working, good-looking Jake comes to help her when she gets hurt. He needs to feel completely in control of a relationship with a woman and together these two people with deep emotional issues find what they need in each other. For such a short story, Rebecca's character development was deep and meaningful and many women who have been dumped for a younger newer models could identify with how her feelings and self-concept could reach the low she suffers. Broken: A Need for Control developed to a happy ending and that always is a plus for me.
