The Hookup List

Rate this book
Mine. I liked the sound of that word. Whenever I thought about Ana, when I thought about having her naked in my bed, my fantasies always included her telling me that she was mine. It was a small word, only four letters, yet it meant so much. In some ways, it was everything.

A FRESHMAN, HER ROOMMATE, A GUY and A LIST...

THE FRESHMAN: Ana Alves came to college for one reason--to be the first person in her immigrant family to earn a degree. She doesn't want anything to derail her from her pre-med studies, especially a guy.

HER ROOMMATE: Nicki Payne is ready to party and she doesn't waste any time hooking up with a guy in a frat house bathroom. Her motto: College is a time to be young, wild and free.

A GUY: Christopher Knight is the easy-going English major with a sexy smile and killer body who sits next to Ana in her Shakespeare class. Ana finds Christopher intriguing. She just doesn't want to admit that she's falling for him.

THE HOOKUP LIST: A list of freshman girls who are ready for action that's circulated to the freshman guys via a weekly Listserv. When Nicki Payne is one of the first girls featured on The Hookup List, guys start knocking on her dorm door at all hours of the day and night looking to score...

But what happens when one of those guys is Christopher?

This new adult romance contains language and content intended for adult readers (18+). A note from the author: The cover image is intended to depict Nicki and Spence not Ana and Christopher. My reason for using the secondary couple on the cover is because Nicki appears on the Hookup List in the story. I'm sorry for any confusion this causes readers!

The thing I disliked most about this book was how deceiving the synopsis is. I went in with pre-conceived notions of Christopher only to find out I was basically a big huge bitch, because Christopher was nothing but a sweet and always casual guy with some crazy friends. I guess I should also mention that I really enjoyed this book. At times the story seemed to fly by and felt rather short. Not too much happens outside of a normal NA romance but in regards to the plot I will admit I loved it. Brought back memories of my high school days when the football players had their own version of the hook-up list better known as the jump off list.

”Hooking up is easy… But what about getting unhooked? That can be a problem.”- Christopher

Ana has a boyfriend back home. Back home may be across the country but Paulo is also Ana’s best friend. When Christopher starts flirting with her Ana can’t help but try and brush him off as best as possible. Christopher is no pushover however, and he somehow has Ana divulging her deepest secrets and makes her question her life, especially Paulo.

”I would never cheat on Paulo but I definitely thought about what it would be like to kiss Christopher.”- Ana

From the moment Christopher locked eyes on Ana he was mesmerized. He knows nothing of her strict Catholic upbringing or that she has a boyfriend, in fact everything but Ana matters little too him. The sparks between these two are scorching. But both are honorable and refuse to start a relationship where infidelity is the start. Plus does Ana really want to give up her best friend, the relationship her family has supported for the last two years?

Christopher and Ana have an interesting road ahead of them. Christopher has some past girl drama he’s still dealing with. Unfortunately for him he has a crazy ex and he hasn’t seen the last of her yet. The Hook-Up List certainly makes their relationship both interesting and dangerous. Literally the first day of orientation and the men on campus have a list compiled of easy girls, their skills and more obscene info that they hope will help them score. Ana is extremely embarrassed and disgusted when she discovers the list. Imagine her surprise when her roommate is upset to not be number #1 on the list but rather number #2. (She was definitely the complete opposite of Ana but surprisingly the girls didn’t clash too much.)

“I’m really not that fragile.” As soon as I said it, I knew the words sounded false. I was a tall guy, fit and athletic. At first glance no one would ever use the term fragile to describe me. But inside, in my heart and soul, I knew I was extremely vulnerable.’-Christopher

Overall I really enjoyed this story. I wish there was more to it though. Christopher and Ana were both great characters and even with the strict influence of their families they manage to retain their individuality. Together they help motivate one another and realize their goals. I did worry that things moved too fast at times but both characters seemed happy so I went with it. I would definitely recommend this on originality alone. I can’t lie and say I didn’t wish for a better epilogue but it’s possible there is another story on the way, this time from Spence and Nicki. More often than not these vile ‘Hook-Up List’s’ actually exist and even though it’s all for fun and games reading about it, I think more people need to become aware of how demeaning and demoralizing something like this actually is. I think Dakota Madison did a great job of highlighting this horrible facet of college life but still made it fun, romantic and entirely enjoyable.

Christopher moved to Arizona after a bad break up , but is off to a great fresh start when he sits next to Anna in Shakespeare class. He is immediately drawn to Anna and it doesn't take much for him to set his mind to pursuing her, wether they would only be friends or something more as a result didn't really matter (of course he hoped for the latter).

Anna though already had a boyfriend (Paulo), and she didn't want to cheat. Though that relationship wasn't what it appeared to be. And like Christopher, she also felt the instant attraction, which scared her and caused her to hide behind the “relationship” with Paulo. But Christopher saw through it.

"When Christopher leaned down, I thought he might kiss me. Instead, he whispered in my ear. His breath tickled the back of my neck as he spoke. “I would never take what belongs to someone else. But you don’t really belong to him, do you?”
description

Soon their feelings wouldn't be contained any longer and would they find each other. Only for their happiness to be clouded by the discovery of a certain list. Not to mention Christopher's past that came knocking on their door. Doubts arose and feelings were hurt, would they ever get their happy ever after?

What to say about “The Hookup List”? It was a cute and fun story and I just loved Christopher and Anna. There was so much more to Christopher than you saw at first glance. He looked like a surfer but he was actually really smart. As Anna I was prejudiced too, good thing he proved Anna and me wrong.... okay he proved Spence (his roommate) wrong too, but I don't want to sum myself in his category >.< He cared for Christopher and he had his back when needed, but man he was a player at heart and just....gross. Total opposite of Christopher who was sweet and romantic, quoting Shakespeare. Oh and he preferred books to ebooks. Could he be more perfect.

“Call me old fashioned,” he whispered. “I like real books.”

What I liked about Anna was that she stayed true to herself and wasn't swept away by all the college pressure, to party, randomly hook up or fit in. It just took her so long too to make up her mind. I thought it was pretty obvious who she should be with.

“I want to kiss you,” he whispered. He was still so close, his breath tickled my lips. “I’ve wanted to kiss you since the first time I saw you, when you were wearing that little yellow sun dress. You completely knocked me out. But I want all of you. I don’t want to share you with Paulo or anyone else. When I kiss you, you’ll be mine.”
description

Overall it portrayed the college experience well, I went back in time and rekindled with old memories. This is the first book I've read by this author, but I loved her style. If her other books contain the same formula in which this book is written, than she has gained a fan.

The fact that I didn't agree with most of Ana's (heroine's) decisions ruined the book for me. The beginning and middle was amazing. I loved how the story was narrated, I liked that Ana didn't take sh*t from anyone and I loved when Christopher spouted random quotes of Shakespeare.

Ana comes from a brazilian family. Though she is described as having an athletic body, I can tell you now that that's not possible. I was born in Brazil and have resided here for the last 6 years. I can tell you that you will not find one fully brazilian girl who doesn't have an *ss. Other then that I loved her personality and her being considered "weird" was just a bonus.

Well aren't you Miss She's-Got-It-All.

Though towards the end of the novel I was very unhappy with her actions. After finding out about Paulo (her boyfriend of TWO years) she simply became "friends" with him again and then less then a day later fell into bed with Chris. I mean, really? They kissed TWO times. Her actions with Bethany kind of got back a little of the respect she lost from me, but it still doesn't make it go away. Either she's too forgiving or I'm not forgiving enough.

He really was a good looking guy - too bad he knew it.

Christopher is not perfect. He was very romantic with the poetry spouting, very considerate and all around nice guy. Like every other human being he had made mistakes in his past and even though I love plot twists I don't agree with what happened to Bethany. The author had a chance to complicate their relationship even more and go to a next book, but she settled for a miracle. I very much dislike miracles.

If it wasn't for that ending I'd have liked this book way more. But then again, there isn't such a thing as a PERFECT book. This book was enjoyable and a quick read. I recommend it! Just be warned of the ending C:

My Review:

Well written YA, but Dakota Madison always is from my experience. The characters are a bit whiny, although when I think about it, most young college students are… given their frequent states of hang-overs and sleep deprivation from late-nights. Serious minded and “good girl” Ana is across the US and away from her close knit, old fashioned, and controlling family for the first time in her young life. Her family has decided she is to be a medical doctor like her aunt, so she sets about fulfilling that duty. Unfortunately, her roommate, and the roommate’s posse of skanks, are party girls who aspire to nothing more than being at the top of the “Hookup” list of easy females, who are rated on the list by how quick they are to get into “action.” Serious minded Ana has a boyfriend of several years back home, yet is still a virgin. Hmm, we sense this is not for long. On her first day, she meets a handsome and smart boy in one of her classes and is instantly attracted, he feels likewise. The chase begins. He spouts Shakespeare to her, she eats it up. Drama ensues. I liked the story, although it dragged a bit in spots, but a relatively quick and easy read.

In a world where it seems everyone is jumping on the New Adult bandwagon, after a while everything seems to feel like you are reading the same book over and over again. So when you find one that stands out from the rest , you are like YAY. The Hookup list by Dakota Madison was one of those books. The only downside to this book was the cover as the characters look older than College Age and also the main girl is supposed to be Brazilian and the cover model to me looks too white to be a Brazilian. Ana has been accepted into college and wants to be a Doctor so she has her eyes set on studying and making good grades with no distractions. Christopher has come to study in order to become a Lawyer though his real passion is English Lit and Shakespeare is his idol. Many others see College as a time to play the field and hook-up with as many guys/girls as they can and at this college, there is a list. The list is sent out weekly and is known as the Hook-Up List rating the top 10 girls each week to hook-up with. Can Ana and Christopher just hook-up or are they both looking for something a little more deeper ?

Find out in this awesome book by Dakota Madison and if you loved The Hook-Up List , then check out her series "MatchPlay" which is another series I have to read that looks really good if you love Tennis etc.

This book was not what I expected, but I think I love it more because of that.
Ana started college and had to leave her boyfriend behind, but they plan on making it work. Then Ana shows up in her Shakespeare class and meets Christopher Knight. He's not like anyone she's ever met, and there's immediate sparks and he feels them too. But, is Ana ready to leave her boyfriend and take a chance on Christopher, or will she just play it safe. Will she even want to take a chance after finding him holding "the Hook-Up list?"
Christopher was not what I was expecting. I thought he would turn out to be some sort of "player" based on what the synopsis said but he's not. He's a guy that has been through a lot in terms of love and yet still loves with all of his heart and when he finds himself falling for Ana he's willing to do just about anything to keep her by his side.
I highly recommend this, it's a great New Adult read and I think it would be awesome as a beach read! In fact, I've read some awesome beach reads lately and I think I'm going to have to do an ultimate beach read round up on Electively Paige! I think this is a great book and I am definitely going to be watching this author closely as I can't wait to read more from her!

Review:

The Hookup List brought my attention for having such a juicy name. It read scandal all over the place and when I saw who the author was, I didn't hesitate. I've read the Matched series also written by Dakota Madison and I really enjoyed them, so reading another of her stories was in my list of priorities.

What I liked about The Hookup List was that the author based her story in a real story she read in a newspaper and that The Hookup List really exists. She explains briefly that after reading an article in the New York Times entitled "Sex on Campus: She Can Play That Game, Too.", aside from being horrified, she was intrigued as a writer and that's how The Hookup List was born. And I have to agree with the author: both by being horrified (I also searched for the article) and by the great idea of doing a story about this. The story has the perfect opportunity to be simply scandalous and epic.

However, what I didn't like is that The Hookup List it's not the main topic. It's briefly used to bring conflict between the two main characters and once the problem is solved (and it's solved really quickly) The Hookup List is not mentioned any more in the following pages of the story (and there are a lot of pages left).
Honestly, after reading the title I wanted to know more about this book and the synopsis promised scandal: group of friends, college and a hookup list? That has all the potential to be juicy, scandalous and totally worth reading! So, my point is that the author had an excellent topic and her idea was incredible, but she focused more on Ana's life and not in the hookup list.

The two main characters, Ava and Christopher are really mature. If you compare them to the other characters that appear on the story, they are like ancient souls, with the perfect level of morality and values. It's like they were reading my thoughts when they criticizing the hookup list or Ana's roommate's behavior. They are also very responsible, showing one of the things of being a college student means.
However, other characters such as Ana's roommate and her best friends and Christopher's roommate, gave me the impression that everyone in that college in Dakota's story was there just to drink alcohol and to hookup. And all the background people? It gave me the impression to have the same thinking as these characters.

I think that what I ended up liking the most about this story was the romance between Ava and Christopher. It's sweet, romantic and credible. It shows us that there are second chances to everyone and that love and passion can be two different things. But when you mix those two things? That's when you know you have found someone worth fighting for.
Another thing I truly liked aside from reading how these two fell in love was that the author did a great show of trying to send the message to all readers that girls should respect themselves and their bodies and that being part of something as the hookup list is not something to be proud of. I would feel offended. It's true that you need to live your life when you're young, but there's no need to scream out loud in a piece of paper what you can do in bed or who do you sleep with or how many you sleep with.
The Hookup list shows us how the boys are not the only ones pursuing a "only-hookup" relationship. And that sometimes the roles are reversed and the men are the ones suffering from a broken heart rather than breaking a girl's heart. As hard as it is to picture it.
Plus she uses this controversial story to show the consequences of unprotected sex.

Overall, the story was a good one. The romance was credible, sweet and something you would expect after reading Ana and Christopher's stories and got to know them. I liked the message the author tries to send with her story and also liked the main idea, that's why I gave this book three gorjuss dolls.

This book was a quick and easy read that was fun enough to entertain me for a few hours. I found this one enjoyable and sweet and I think that a lot of New Adult fans will like this one. For me, it was a good read but it didn't really grab my attention. I found myself easily putting it down and returning when I had time rather than not being able to stop reading. I liked it, but there were a few things that kept it from being one that I loved. I did enjoy the characters and the premise of the story, but I felt like the book didn't really live up to its name and I think that was part of the problem for me.

After a rough breakup Christopher heads to Arizona from California to begin school. In his first day of Shakespeare class he meets Ana. There is an instant connection and attraction between them, but he quickly finds out that she has a boyfriend back home in New Jersey. As they get to know each other better, both are more drawn to each other and find it harder to stay platonic. Ana knows that she needs to speak with her boyfriend Paulo in person before anything can happen with Christopher. When Paulo visits over fall break, they both agree that they shouldn't see each other anymore and decide to remain friends. Christopher and Ana are finally able to act on their feelings for one another, and are soon in a relationship. But when Chris's past suddenly reappears, their future is threatened before they have barely had a chance at being together. Can they make it through everything that is thrown their way?

I liked Christopher. He was sweet and romantic, and I liked that he was a bit of a nerd. He was always quoting Shakespeare and laying his heart out there without a second thought. I liked how committed he was to Ana, and he respected her enough to wait until she could really be his. He was patient and was just a really good guy. Ana was great as well. I liked that she was not willing to pursue anything with Chris until she made things right with Paulo. I had a lot of respect for the two of them as they waited despite their feelings. I also liked that she was so determined to do well in school and pursue a career in medicine. She was really smart and dedicated. I thought that Christopher and Ana had a great connection and worked really well together. They had a lot of chemistry and you could really feel their attraction to one another.

I did however think that this book was a bit too insta-love for my taste. It felt pretty rushed and I thought that they were saying those all important words a bit too quickly. Christopher had a history of doing that in relationships and then later seeing that it wasn't love after all, and I think in the back of my mind I kept wondering if him and Ana would end up the same way. Since everything was so rushed it was harder to believe that they would be able to make it through everything when things had happened so fast for them and at such a young age. Because they were just starting college and were eighteen it was hard for me to really get behind everything when they started talking about forever so quickly. Overall, this was a quick and cute read. I found it enjoyable and entertaining, but this isn't one of those stories that will stick with me. I think that if you are looking for a New Adult read to lose yourself in for a few hours that you might want to give this one a shot, as I think there are a lot of people who will like this story.

This one is one short novel that provided me with entertainment while on the plane back home…

I’m confused whether to like or hate Christopher – I mean, I do love a hot guy who has brains and of course, who is really sweet. But he does borderline being a pussy, and it is just surprising for a boy who is supposed to be ruled by hormones to be more emotional, and clingier than a girl. To be fair, he did try to fight his hormones, the strong temptation when it came to Ana because she was still involved. I loved that he didn’t push her to cheat on her long-time boyfriend just to be with him. He opted to wait, so I guess, it made up for it.

Ana – her drive to be successful and to reach her dreams is pretty much admirable. I like her in so many ways, not just because she’s smart and she’s quite a nerd, but because she knows what she wants, and she doesn’t succumb to peer pressure – and I’m really proud of it for her. She values her relationships, and doesn’t jump into decisions. She’s a pragmatic person.

The roommate: Can she have her story as well?! Nicki – I didn’t expect to like her, really. I think by that time she was still in denial. At first, I thought she was a major pain, but no, she just knows what she wants as well, not afraid to go for it, and doesn’t care what other people thinks about it. She finally met her match in a person I LEAST expect to. It gave me a few laughs, I didn’t really see that coming. Good one!

It was short, fun and sweet. It provided me with entertainment on the plane on my way home. I finished it easily, wondering who was on the list, why wasn’t this person on it, and who was interested in it. If that’s the way how girls and boys mingle in college today – it’s a little bit scary, and makes me feel a little bit old. I’m glad though that Dakota Madison did not judge it, nor condone it, she simply stated it as what it is, reminded the young ones of its consequences, and of being safe while having fun.

This story was fine, but I feel like the title is misleading. Ana Alves is a freshman pre-med student with strict Catholic parents and a boyfriend back home. Her roommate, Nicki, and Nicki's vapid friends are only in school to party and hook up with as many guys as possible. Sparks immediately fly when she runs into the charming Christopher Knight in class, but Ana is determined to stay on track and not get mesmerized by a pretty boy.

Christopher was burned by his high school "girlfriend" and isn't looking for a relationship, but he can't resist Ana.

Ana has been trying to deny her feelings for Christopher when Nicki is placed at the top of the list with that circulates amongst the students.
It was a printout of some kind of email. It was labeled The Hookup List. "What is this?"

"This," he said as he flicked the top of the list. "Is where it all starts each and every week."

I took another look at this list. There were ten girls listed with photos and under each picture was a brief but extremely detailed description of a sexual act. There was also a time to action (recorded in minutes and seconds) and a slut score (apparently on a scale of 1-10).

Christopher shows up at her room, along with his smarmy roommate, giving Ana the wrong impression about him. That quickly gets resolved, which is the reason I don't think this book was appropriately titled. The idea for this story was a good one, but I feel like it lost itself along the way. There is a lot of drama, and I don't want to spoil anything for you, but I definitely could see this being a TV show.

I started out liking these characters. Ana was smart and didn't give in to what went against her beliefs, and I thought that Christopher said some swoony things.
"I want to kiss you," he whispered. He was still so close, his breath tickled my lips. "I've wanted to kiss you since the first time I saw you, when you were wearing that little yellow sun dress. You completely knocked me out. But I want all of you. I don't want to share you with Paulo or anyone else. When I kiss you, you'll be mine."

There were some things that I didn't love, including the total predictability and stereotypes of some of the characters, and the way Ana's relationship with Paulo was tied up into a neat (unrealistic, in my opinion) little bow. Christopher does something that I really didn't like, and I also felt like it was too PSA-esque at times. Though there is a love triangle, it really isn't central to the story, and readers who try to stay away from those will find this safe to read.

Ah yes college, I wish I could say something about The Hook-Up list(the actual list not the book) being absolutely ridiculous but even going to small catholic college like I did, it’s not at all far fetched. For us everyone just knew everyone's business and so there didn’t need to be a list (and no I would never have been on something like that). So when I saw the synopsis for the The Hook-Up List (the book) I was definitely intrigued. There is a note from Dakota Madison about the real hook-up list at the beginning. This book reads very fast, I found myself flying through the pages without even realizing it. I love that the main character is Brazilian and I wish the cover reflected that.

Ana is pretty adorable and innocent. Her parents are from Brazil and have a strong Catholic background and so her upbringing is more conservative. She considers herself not to be on the extreme level but she hasn’t necessarily been exposed to things the way maybe others had. She was more interested in hanging with her boyfriend and family then partying in high school. I really liked Ana because even though she has this background she is also very laid back. Things might make her uncomfortable but she still tries. She goes to a party and checks it out. She just came across to me as very strong. She’s mature for her age and held steady through the entire book.

Christopher is interesting. I really liked him at first. He’s super smart (I love smart guys) and has a killer smile. He’s totally laid back with his clothes and dresses like a beach bum. He sounds like the total kind of guy I would have gone for. The thing that surprised me about him is his clinginess.( He keeps referring back to this Bethany girl who sounds like it’s not shocking he broke his heart and the way he is all torn up over Ana is kind of….umm...a little over the top. He just was very dramatic about his relationship with Ana. I don’t think I’ve ever read a character quite like him which honestly kept me totally intrigued.

The plot is loosely based around the hook-up list. Which as I said previously is a real thing at some colleges. Girls get a rating on their hook-up ability and then the list is published every week. Nikki, Ana’s roommate, is at the top of list. For some girls this is something to aspire to, for others not so much. It actually became more of a background thing for the story. We see more of the list itself through Nikki and Spence. The main focus was Ana and Christophers relationship and how they deal with their exes. The final part of the book actually took me off guard. I was like wait I wasn’t expecting that but it was interesting.

Overall this was a fun and interesting story. I wish they had gone into a little more about their families and if they would approve of their relationship. It seemed that there was a lot of pressure from them but it was only vaguely mentioned. I really loved Ana and I think she made the story. I wanted to be like, hey you are one awesome girl can we be friends. She kind of gives you that good mc buzz after reading.

The HookUp List was a good read, it succeeded in keeping me with the story. It is a freshman-college scene type of book, which sadly I find that are too full of clichès. Don't get me wrong. I read this book in a couple of hours and enjoyed it. The characters are pretty likable, although again, very cliched. You have the nerdy virgin,  the hot guy who used to be a player and had some past issues, the crazy and kind of slutty friends and the psycho ex ( of course ). Overused stereotypes? Yes. But were they well written? Yes. I loved that Ana wasn't the typical, all-American girl next door. She's Brazilian, comes from a strict family and seemed to be the type of girl very rarely written about. She lives her life, no major issues or drama, but still hides and covers the stuff in her life she doesn't want to see. Christopher.... He's our super-sexy, Shakespeare-quoting, beach-bum (ish) , book boyfriend. He's a hopeless romantic who's not a player and falls in love fast and hard. Yeah....

Spencer is an Italian player on a testosterone high. Crude, a jerk and funny, he did liven up the story a great deal.  He hits it off with Super-Slut #1 Nicki, Ana's roommate. ( Yes, Nicki is proud to have that title)  She's not really a pivotal or imprtant character but she does make it possible in various moments for Christopher and Ana to be together.

I think this book was saved by the details, which were given a lot of thought. One I liked? Ana's first time. It's actually pretty realistic. Doesn't last very long, not too overdone. It was perfect.  There is a serious plot twist towards the end that I wasn't expecting, which I was very pleased by and especially how it was worked into the story by the author. For that, and other health-related issues brought up in the book about unsafe sex and its consequences, the author has my applause and respect.

Overall, The HookUp List was a fun, quick read.

I did a lot of cringing while reading The Hookup List, but it wasn’t because of bad writing. Madison captured the minds of many college freshmen a little too well. I remember being eighteen and living in the dorms… and some of those memories are better left forgotten. That is a point in my life that I would rather not relive. I spent the first half of my time at college much like Ana (but with probably half as much ambition); I was still with my boyfriend from back home, I got good grades and I didn’t party. But about two years in, I started acting more like Ana’s roommate Nicki. I broke up with my boyfriend and I started partying too hard… THAT is what I don’t want to relive. Sure, it was fun at the time, but now I am pretty ashamed of my actions from back when.

I’m not thrilled about the cover. Unless the people on the cover are supposed to be Nicki and Spence, they don’t look at all how the characters were described. Ana was supposed to have dark hair and olive skin, while Christopher was a blond surfer looking type…

I’m not really sure what age group Madison was going for in this book. There were a lot of sexual themes, so I don’t think the aim was anyone under sixteen… And I doubt anyone over twenty-five would want to read about the antics of crazy college kids. So I’m guessing the target age group is about sixteen to twenty-five.

It was definitely not a bad book, and I expect that if you are in the target age group, you’d probably really enjoy it. It did exactly what it was supposed to do. It was a short and sweet little love story about a couple of college freshman. The characters were well thought out and developed, the plot was realistic, and the sex scenes were tastefully done. Nicki and Spence’s subplot complimented the plot nicely and was entertaining. The dialogue flowed realistically. All in all, a nice little romantic story.

The Hookup List was a fast read but it was a bit predictable at times, but I did like it.

I was really surprised with this book. The synopsis gave me an impression that “the hookup list” was going to be a main feature of this story. But in fact it wasn’t. The list was used as creating a connection to the characters but not as a source of conflict and drama that I was expecting. This is fine but it was somewhat a letdown since that is the title of the book. But I do like how the author explained that the inspiration of her story was the hookup lists that are circulating colleges. I know that college life is filled with parties (and I didn’t live in the dorms during my college years), but I was disgusted with the idea of a weekly hookup list. I was also really bothered with the attitude of Ana’s roommate Nikki and her girlfriends, who made it a goal to be on top of the list. So it was nice to have Ana as the voice of reason, maturity and self-respect. Christopher served as the male version for his womanizing roommate Spence.

Overall I did enjoy this story but I do think the romance of Ana and Christopher was too perfect. They were both so young and it just seemed too sweet of a romance to make it believable for me. The Hookup List is being marketed as New Adult but I think the sex scenes were graphic and not appropriate for readers under the age of 16.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you Itching for Books and Dakota Madison for the opportunity to read The Hookup List.

I have to be honest, I was afraid to read this book, because I've read a lot of books from this genre and they were pretty much all the same. But, it didn't happen. Dakota really did a number with this story and she created a great story, a new story, different from all the others.

What do you do when you feel an instant attraction to a complete stranger? What could that mean? And how is it possible to feel that way when you have a boyfriend?

These were the questions that Anna asked herself after meeting Christopher in a Shakespeare class. It was an instant attraction and it was hard to keep distance. But how long could they stay apart? They both decided to give they're feelings a chance. But, was it a mistake? There is a certain list and it isn't a nice one, and Christopher's past is came crushing down.

I loved this story so much! Anna wasn't a winy little girl, she stayed true, no lies no nothing and she accepted reality. Talk about a strong girl. You have here a real description about what life in college means and real hurt feels like, to say so. I just loved it! I highly recommend this book! Thank you!

I'm not going to lie to you, I picked this title up because of how :| I was over the concept of "hookup lists."

And then the list ends up playing like, the smallest part in the book.

What I liked:

The roommates. I really wish there was more of a focus on those two.

Plus Chris's history of getting too serious too fast.

Oh, and the importance of safe sex.

What I didn't love:

There's nothing wrong with the story, not really. I mean, I wish there was a little bit more polish and a bit more depth ... but that's not what's holding me back from fangirling all over it.

No, the issue was that the book just didn't grab me.

That's not to say someone else wouldn't enjoy it, it's just not for me.

This is the third book of Dakota's that I have read and although my favourite still remains Community Service, this book certainly appeals to the romantic in me. Christopher looks like a surfer but is so much more. Ana is at college to learn and tries to make the best of a bad situation when she shares a room with Party Girl and her 'girls'.

This story is full of romance, twists and turns as Ana and Christopher try to figure out what it is that they want to do, both with their lives and also if they can be together. Nikki and Spence make a laughable counterpoint to Ana and Christopher but they do add to the story. It just wouldn't be the same without them.

This is a quick, fun read, chock full of romance, Shakespeare quotes and a few twists and turns along the way. Recommended.

I love the inspiration for the book as explained in the beginning. The book had a nice flow and excellent pacing. The Shakespearean quotes added a nice touch to the story.

I think "sexy grin" was used too much, but the book was still well-written. The ending was a little convenient, but the conflicts allowed the characters to shine. The author did a great job with conflicts and made the characters realistic.
