Nearest Thing to Heaven

Rate this book
Ty Rawlins, the widowed father of rambunctious triplets, is at odds with Sophie London when she returns to Maverick Junction at Thanksgiving for her cousin Annelise Montjoy's wedding to Cash Hardeman. Chicago is home, where she runs Starlight Productions, her greeting card company. Sophie is a fish out of water in Texas. The cows freak her out. The long-horned steers are nightmare material. But Ty's triplets, one of whom spilled cherry soda on her white silk lap at Cash's barbecue, are enough to make her run all the way back to Illinois in her Jimmy Choos. What will it take for Ty to convince Sophie that Maverick Junction is where she belongs, right beside him and his boys?

OMG, there is nothing sexier than a single dad who's both a cowboy and great with not one but three kids. Ty has had it rough raising these three little dynamos from birth. Luckily, he has the help of family but it's not the same as a mother and while no one could ever accuse city slicker Sophie London of being mother material, she is pretty awesome with the boys. The only fault, I had with the whole book was, Sophie not letting her friends in on the stalkerish ex-boyfriend until almost too late. I know there has to be some conflict but I don't like an otherwise smart lady doing some of the dumb things she did.
Overall, another great cowboy romance that made you both laugh and cry.

My love affair with Maverick Junction continues…

How can you resist a handsome cowboy, a widower with triplet four-year boys? I couldn’t! And didn’t in this second outing where family, friendship and romance is on offer and that offer is good! Annie and Cash are getting married and not only did I get to reacquaint myself with them and their family and friends but learn more about cousin Sophie and neighbour Ty.

Written with the same easy, funny and emotional style of the first instalment, my heart was tugged even more when adorable little boys and irresistible four-legged critters were thrown into the mix. And did I mention Ty was this easy-going, handsome and charming cowboy? He was struggling to move on from the loss of his wife but Sophie was going to challenge every part of his reluctance. And that challenge was full of undeniable heat and home truths that were met with city and country fire…

Sophie shared many of the same traits as her cousin and being a city girl was one of them! Charmed by everything in this small Texas town, Ty was high on the ‘what’s not to love’ list. They were going to battle their own assumptions on what was right for themselves and that meant a courtship with warmth and angst in equal measure.

Their story was a hug wrapped in a piece of apple pie – and it was delicious! And what’s even better, Maggie and Brawley’s story is up next. Their cat and mouse game is coming to a head…

Sophie London is a card designer that lives in Chicago. She went to Maverick Junction, Tx to talk her bestfriend/cousin to come home but now she is back for her wedding. On her last visit she met Ty Rawlins who is a widower with three triplet boys who can be a handful. She knows she should stay clear of him because let's face it she is a city girl and has no plans to stay in Texas.
When her ex starts to stalk her from Chicago with emails, calls and more she decides that maybe staying a little longer in Texas wouldn't be so bad after all but the last thing she expected was to be seeing so much of this hot cowboy and his family.

Ty Rawlins lost his first wife and has no plans in getting involved with anyone at least not serious. After all his boys come first. Of course he is attracted to her but he knows she isn't staying but when her ex starts stalking her Ty feels more protective day by day.

I really loved this story and found it adorable. Sophie comes off as a little standoffish but once she started to relax and take everything in she fit in perfectly in this town. The kids were so cute and I loved how they took to Sophie right away. Ty was a dream boat to begin with. He was sweet yet a little reluctant of her and what it would mean for her to be in his life.

From the beginning Sophie and Ty had great chemistry and I couldn't help but root for them to be a couple. I loved that their relationship took time and it wasn't rushed even though everyone was trying to throw them together left and right. The love scenes were hot yet sweet.

Overall, I thought this was one of the romantic stories I have read this year. This might have been my first book by Ms. Austin but I can promise it wont be my last. I am hoping to read book one and book three when I get some down time so I can meet the characters from the beginning.

Review:

"Nearest Thing To Heaven" by Lynnette Austin was the second in this wonderful written series. This novel continues on from this first series 'Somebody Like You' and we return to 'Maverick Junction' for fantastic wedding of Annelise and Cash. This story is of Amelise's cousin Sophie who has come for the wedding. She runs a 'Starlight Production's which is a 'greeting card company.' Sophie being from Chicago loves that kind of life and being in Texas with cows and 'long horned steers' really freaks her out. Then she meets up with a widower who has triplets and we find life for her will never be the same. Will these two opposites attract? Will she stay in Texas or run back home to Chicago? Is she being stalked by someone in her pass? This was another well written story that was well presented by this author and all I can say you must pick up this second series to see how it will all come out for Ty Rawlins and Sophie London. I found all of the characters simply off the chart great. You will find along with some interesting secondary characters that were so well developed, captivating and oh so colorful that will only to give you a fantastic read that you will not be able to put down until the end. This author even offered the reader a little suspense with this love story. I will say the ending of the story was somewhat abrupt but if you are following the series we will see if it will be entered into the next series...'Can't Stop Lovin' You.' If you are in for beautiful romances stories you have come to the right place. All I am left to say is check out this series!

Sappy sweet in a good way! Loved that it was set in Texas! Ty is pretty much perfect and those triplets are too darn cute!

Nearest Thing to Heaven is the second charming installment in the Maverick Junction series. I haven’t read book one, though I want to now, but book two can be a standalone, so no worries! This book is so endearing and well written; you will not want to put it down! Sparks fly in this book between city gal, Sophie, and hot cowboy with triplet sons, Ty. Sophie’s just visiting Texas to attend her cousin’s wedding, with no intention of being sucked into the Texas lifestyle and fall in love with a rancher, with kids no less! But once she starts to spend time with him and his three boys, it’s hard to not fall in love with them all.

This book had a smidge of suspense, but overall is a hard to put down love story. It’s a pretty clean book in regards to sex and language…there might be a few bad words tossed around, but not many. For some reason, maybe because the book happens during the holidays, I’d say this is a good winter read!

This beautiful love story is the 2nd installment in the Maverick Junction Series. I did not read book one, but I did not suffer. This one could stand alone well. The lead and secondary characters were so carefully drawn, it was easy to see them, and I want to live in that quirky Texas town! This was the perfect book for my rainy day by the fireplace; a sweet, heart-warming love story.

This book is the second book in Lynnette Austin's Maverick Junction series. It's so sweet and filled with tender moments, and it was one of those wonderfully emotional romance novels that tug on my heart. I loved the first book, Somebody Like You, and I can't wait for the third, Can't Stop Lovin' You. This author crafts beautiful romances that draw you into her sweet world and make you want to be a part of Maverick Junction.

I really enjoyed this romance. With the addition of triplets,a dog and a rescued cat there was a sort of hectic variety to the situations. It was a really nice city girl meets cowboy and a different way of life. There was humor, romance, and some suspense.

enjoyable light read. only thing is I would have liked another chapter or epilogue at the end. I felt the ending was a little abrupt after all they went through to get to where they were.

Sophie London has come to Texas for one reason and one reason only and that is to attend her cousin's wedding. But when trouble starts to arise in her life, she decides to stay, even though she hates the state and is freaked out by anything that has to do with ranch life. Yet, the more time she spends with Ty Rawlins and his three boys, the harder it becomes for her not to fall in love. But how can they ever work when he's a country boy and she's a city girl. Will Ty be able to convince Sophie to stay, so he can have a second shot at forever?

What a wonderfully-written, fast-paced, beguiling read Ms. Austin has penned in this second story of her Maverick Junction series, which started with me feeling sorry for the heroine with what's happening in her life with her ex. What will he do when she continues to stay away from him? However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine came face-to-face for the first time in this book that really had me hooked, because they have really strong chemistry, and yet, they are both determined to ignore it, as Sophie doesn't plan on staying and Ty has already lost someone he loves and he doesn't know whether he can go through that kind of pain again.

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to what is happening in the heroine's life with her ex and the anger the hero feels towards his wife who died because she didn't take the warning she was given in regards to pregnancy. Will Ty be able to overcome the hurts of his past to find happiness with Sophie? However, the dialogue wasn't all intense. There were moments where I smiled or laughed because of Ty's sons. They're cute and I loved how they treated Sophie.

Both the main characters were riveting, but I thought Sophie was being a little nonchalant with what her ex was doing. Why couldn't she realize how dangerous he could become? Why wasn't she concerned enough to go to the police. Really, I thought she was a tad naïve in believing what she did about her ex. Moreover, I liked the heroine's enthusiasm for her art and how kind and caring she was to Ty's boys, even though she didn't want to get too close to them for fear of hurting them.

While Ty, he's been through so much with losing his wife, which left him devastated and it was just lucky he had family to help him with his three boys through the rough times. I also liked the close relationship he had with his in-laws and the advice they offered Sophie, because they could see how good she was for Ty. Yet, what I liked most about the hero was how good of a father he was to his three boys. There was plenty of love to go around and I liked how they accepted Sophie.

Overall, Ms. Austin has penned a really good read in this book where the chemistry was intense and the secondary characters entertained me just as much as the main ones did. The way this story ended had me cheering for this couple's happy ever after, as Ty deserves a second shot at love and Sophie is perfect for him, especially since she gets along so well with his boys and they love her which is important. I would recommend Nearest Thing to Heaven by Lynnette Austin, if you enjoy small town romances, second chance romances, the opposites attract trope or books by authors Catherine Bybee, Hope Ramsey, Carolyn Brown or Sara Richardson.

Better Than the First!

Sorry Cash, but I liked Ty way more than you. ;) Once again Lynnette Austin takes us to Maverick Junction to see what's new in town. While Nearest Thing to Heaven can be read as a standalone, it's more fun to meet the whole gang in Somebody Like You. This review may contain mild spoilers for the first book.

We met Sophie in the first book when she came to "talk some sense" into her cousin Annalise. Needing a break from her family, Annalise found herself in Maverick Junction and also ended up finding a cowboy as well. While Sophie didn't understand the attraction Annie had for the dusty little Texas town, she did appreciate the man candy that lived there. That includes one handsome single dad named Ty.

The father to four year old triplets, saying Ty has his hands full is the understatement of the year. Like his buddy Cash, Ty runs his own ranch right along side of being a dad. There isn't much time for a love life at the moment. He met Sophie quickly months before at the annual BBQ and hasn't forgotten her one bit. Now that Sophie is back for the big wedding, Ty is contemplating a making a move on her. Trouble is, he hasn't made those kind of moves in over four years.

Unlike Cash (sorry to keep putting him down) I liked Ty instantly. He didn't have the same cheesy lines as Cash and came off a lot more genuine and humble. Excellent qualities in a man. The down side, the guy has a TON of baggage. Emotional and otherwise.

That said, Sophie isn't coming to town with clean hands, although I felt her issue wasn't as significant as his. It was something she could have taken care of right away, while his was totally out of his control. Even still, Sophie remembered the handsome cowboy from the BBQ and though she wasn't staying (although they always seem to) she didn't mind getting to know him better.

Lynnette Austin has a writing style that I'm not use to. With my reading, it's usually dark and angsty, while these books are sweet and romantic. I was ready for it this time around and really liked how Ty and Sophie took the chance to get to know each other, especially with kids involved.

We go round and round with Ty and Sophie, her trying to decide if she's going to stay and him trying to let down the walls he's got built around his heart. Along with these two, we also keep tabs on Maggie, Brawley and Dottie and pretty much everybody else. I like how the characters stories continue through out the books.

Nearest Thing to Heaven is well written and like I said, very sweet. My one complaint would be tiptoeing around the word Daddy in an adult situation. I really, really don't like that and was so glad Lynnette Austin didn't go all the way with it. Maggie and Brawley's book is set up nicely and I wouldn't mind another visit to Maverick Junction.

Nearest Thing to Heaven (Maverick Junction Book #2) by Lynette Austin
• Trouble
Oh my what another amazing story about Maverick Junction! I cannot get enough of this little town.... And their cowboys getting a 2nd chance at a forever love. I needed a few tissues throughout this one as well as at worried while I read. Why??? You'll have to read Nearest Thing to Heaven to find out, but it'll soooo be worth it! Ty has his hands and plate overfilled with triplets and running a ranch alone after his wife died when the boys were babies. He thought his life was moving forward just fine, that is until Sophie (aka Tink) came to town. Sophie on the other hand came to Maverick Junction for her cousin Annelise & Cash's wedding. She them decided she wanted to spend more time there so she could work, but was really trying to but extra time and distance from someone back home. But she really did need to work too, she just didn't plan on Ty and the Triple-Threat! It's another amazing story from Lynette. Now I can't wait to read Can't Stop Loving You (Maverick Junction Book #3).... Off to do just that! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book via Tasty Book Tours for an honest blog tour review.
Favorite Passages~
• “But nothing broked, Daddy. Look.” He hurried over to the books. “They’re okay.”
• The cowboy was lethal without even breaking a sweat. What would it be like if he turned his charisma to full power?
• Happy is the bride the sun shines on.
• “I can’t get over the sky here. It’s incredible. It goes on forever and ever.” (This is the same exact thing my daughter said when she came to live in Texas with us!)

Sophie lives in Chicago. She has a business designing greeting cards and loves the big city. REALLY loves it. Her best friend Annalise is getting married in Maverick Junction so she travels there for the big day, locking eyes and hearts with Ty, the widowed dad with 4-year-old triplets.

Although they're crazy about each other, Ty loves his ranch and all his family, and he needs the support network in Maverick Junction, so he's not willing to move to Chicago, and Sophie is a city girl through and through. Their love affair is interesting and believable. They're characters you want to root for.

What annoyed me was that there's a subplot of Sophie being stalked by her old Chicago boyfriend, and her reluctance to protect herself is unrealistic and frustrating. But it's a plot device to get her and Ty together.

Although I enjoyed this book, there was more of the over-the-top sweetness (a tear escaping someone's eye when there's insufficient buildup). Also, some of the conflicts could be easily resolved if people would just talk to each other but then the story would end too quickly. Not as good as the first but I'm still going to buy the third book, because I liked Maggie and wanted to see what happens in her life.

This is book #2, in the Maverick Junction series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment and understanding, I recommend reading this great series in order.

Ty has a lot on his plate. His triplet sons were left without a mom when his wife died. Between that and his ranch, he does not get to change the lonely life he leads. Meeting Sophie makes him nervous. He knows he wants her, but he knows what wanting her means. He also knows what losing someone feels like.

Sophie is completely out of her element in Texas. Chicago, where she calls home is more her speed. She loves city life. She does not understand cows. No one can explain the sudden electricity between her and Ty. Nor does she want to do anything about it. Except she does....

This series gets hotter and better with each book! Another slow burn, this story has you pining and squirming with the sparks that are flying. I really enjoy the characters and really hope that I get a chance to read the next books in this amazingly hot series.

Normally when I read a series, I get super exited about book 1 then struggle a little bit with book 2. That was so not the case with Nearest Thing to Heaven. I think I may have enjoyed this book a little bit more than the first because this book dives right in almost immediately after then end of Book 1 and you get more story vs world building. That said, if you haven't read the first book, I would not recommend starting here.
Nearest Thing to Heaven is a sweet story about a second chance at love (for the hero) and self discovery (for the heroine). We meet Ty and Sophie in the first Maverick Junction book and meet up with them again when they are together for Cash and Annie's wedding. Fate definitely plays a part in shoving these two together and the results are sweet and a little steamy.
This is a well written series continuation. Ty and Sophie are both very easy to like and the secondary cast is active and equally fun. Ty's the boys are scene (and heart) stealers! There is a mild suspense element, but no big surprises. This has definitely left me hungry for the series conclusion!

So this is the second Lynette Austin book I have read, and also the second in the Maverick Junction series, and it called The Nearest Thing to Heaven....and this book truly is!

Honestly, it's like the perfect western romance; Widower Ty Rawlings, how has l 4 year old triplets, meets (for the second time) Sophie London, who is a greeting card company owner and designer, whom is in Maverick Junction, to serve as Maid of honor for cousin Annelise (Maverick Junction #1), but Sophie feel a lot like a fish out of water!

But surprisingly enough, Sophie has found the inspiration she needed for her business, in Maverick Junction, with Ty and the triplets, but just when everything is going so right, things blow up in their faces!

I truly love this book! The story is so smooth, the plot detailed and enjoyable, and you can't help but love the character's! Truly, the triplets stole my heart! Much like this town!

I give Nearest Thing to Heaven 5 stars!

I was asked by the author for an honest review.

Ty & Sophie's story in Nearest Thing to Heaven picks up where Cash & Annie's story leaves off in Somebody Like You. In fact, Cash & Annie's wedding is what brings Sophie back into Ty's world. It was a cute story, though the characters didn't seem as developed compared to the first book in the series. I didn't entirely understand Sophie's reasoning at the end of the book. Despite that, I still really liked the story.

The first two books in the series both involve women from out of state meeting men who are settled in Maverick Junction. I'll be watching for third book in the Maverick Junction series, and I was happy to see that it featured two characters that are already in the same geographic area. I'm looking forward to seeing what Lynnette Austin writes next.

Ty was the hardworking, single dad cowboy that was living in small-town Texas. He was sexy, smart, and well a cowboy to his heart. He did not need or want to find himself attracted to a pampered, princess from the north, a.k.a city slicker. Sophies' first impression of Maverick Junction was not the best. The more time she spent their the less she was enjoying herself until she was.

Small children, animals, small-town gossip, and a few mishaps here and there makes this a read that builds the attraction to Maverick Junction. The secondary characters have charm, character, substance. I look forward to the next read.

Ty has some manners built in him, “yes, ma’am, it is. My mama taught me to always walk my— ah, a woman to the door at night. To see her safely inside.” There are times Ty just needs time with his woman and no kids, “thank God,” he growled. He kissed her again but forced himself to keep it light. “I’ll pick you up at seven.” I loved this book.

Absolutely loved this story. Who wouldn’t I mean sexy cowboys, what else do you want. Chicago city girl Sophie travels to Texas for her cousins wedding. A true full on country ranch wedding in a small town where everyone knows everything. Ty a widowed father of triplets owns a ranch and might just find his way into Sophie’s heart.

Received in exchange for a honest review.

This is the second in the Maverick Junction series and was just as good as the first. We are at the week before Cash and Annie’s wedding and the place is abuzz with energy and spunk.

Ty and his kids stole the book for me. Ty was so lost in his loss and trying to get through each day. He was afraid that if he let someone in and loved again they would leave like Julia and he wouldn’t survive that. but here comes his Tink Sophie and she is a bowl full of spunk and sass. Sophie though is just as stubborn as Ty. She has worked her way to her independence and is seemingly happy. She loves the city and doesn’t want to give it up. She is also afraid love will derail her. So when she comes to Maverick Junction for her cousin’s wedding the last thing on her mind is falling for Ty. But falling for Ty she did in a gloriously fun adorable fashion. the two of them skirting their feelings and seeming so confused was entertaining. The attraction woo doggy was it sizzling my pages.

Ty was a loyal sweet honest cowboy. He had three adorable boys that warm your heart. And the puppy trouble too precious. This is one loving and amazing family and they open up to let Sophie in. At first Ty was hesitant afraid he would break his promise to himself and lose his heart. Over time though he couldn’t deny it and he gave in. But him and Sophie didn’t completely give in. they didn’t talk to one another freely about everything and this does cause a rift. So does some of Sophies words. She doesn’t realize Ty is near when she says some of them and it is those words that do help keep him distant. She does nail it on the head though when she expresses how Ty is angry. It wasn’t until than that Ty realized he was. I love seeing Ty fall in love and try to keep Sophie out as well. He did it to protect himself but also because Sophie was keeping him out as well. She didn’t tell him of the danger she was in. She kept it hidden and it almost cost her so much.

Those three boys of Ty’s will just have your heart as will this cowboy. they are so full of love and fun. It is sweet to see them play into the story and not just be talked about on the periphery. Seeing Ty as a dad helps you to gain a look at who he really is. He is a father-a loving adoring father-a cowboy and a sexy man. He is kind and patient, loving and loyal. Sophie is the fairy they need in their world to add more color. She is vivacious and full of life She is also very independent. These two are perfect for one another and we see it in every interaction and precious moment with his children and alone wowza.

A fun sweet precious book of finding your way, learning to move on and forgive and falling in love. The author creates a fun magical setting in Maverick Junction and the characters have you fall in love with them and their town

When Sophie London sets out to Texas for her cousins wedding her plan is to attend the wedding, and get back home before she makes the same mistake her cousin did and get charmed by a handsome cowboy and decide to leave the big city behind for a much simpler type of life. She isn't too worried about it happening to her because she is pretty emotionally unavailable right now... that is until she runs into Ty Rawlins. The minute she meets him again she is completely enamored with him, there is just something about the tall, charming and oh so handsome cowboy that draws her in. But when she learns that the single dad is dealing with a lot right now, she immediately moves him to the friend category...question is how long will he stay there?

Ty Rawlins doesn't have time for love right now, between keeping his bustling ranch afloat, and wrangling his triplet sons he has little time for a social life... nor does he really have it in him to travel down that path again. Losing the love of his life is still taking a toll on him, and he isn't so sure he'll ever be open to searching for that again, but he didn't plan for a woman like Sophie London to wander into his busy life. And the minute she does, he finds himself not wanting to let her leave, there is just something about the quirky city girl that does wicked things to his heart... a heart he had long since thought was damaged beyond repair. But he soon learns happily ever afters can happen more than once in a lifetime...

As soon as I read the synopsis for this one I knew I was about to embark on a very special literary journey, I mean what is not to love about a single dad finding his soul mate again! These two were quite the pair, it was evident from the very beginning that they were perfect for one another...even if Sophie had her doubts. Once Ty found a way into her heart I knew there was no way she would let him and his adorable sons get away, she had her reservations about stepping into a situation like Ty's. but once she was there she realized she may have been wrong all along. But before they could truly get on to their happily ever after someone had to throw a few kinks into their plan... and it had me on the edge of my seat, and wondering if this one was going to pan out like I had anticipated! I have to say this read was quite a refreshing change of pace for me, and a great reunion with Ms. Austin's books. Highly recommend this one, it's sure to leave you with a happy heart!

This book was my first 5-cup read in a long time and here’s why.

Meet Ty and Sophie. He’s a widower raising triplet boys on his own. He’s a good father but he’s a broken man and he’s holding on to a lot of hurt and anger that he can’t figure out how to let go of. She’s a city girl who owns her own greeting card company. There’s a touch of whimsy to Sophie, which Ty and his sons need in their life. Although there’s also something in her past that’s causing problems for her future.

I really liked Sophie and I could relate to her. She believes in the power of crystals and fairies, not in the totally out there in left field way but more in the whimsical way. She’s an artist and it was fun watching the way she incorporated different parts of herself into her work. She’s also a city girl so watching her figure out life in Texas was interesting.

I really wanted to wrap Ty in my arms and never let him go. He was damaged, wounded, and holding on to so much hurt and anger but he didn’t want pity. He knew that Sophie sparked something inside him, but he had a hard time figuring out how to handle these new feelings. Although, no matter what happened, his boys came first.
Ty and Sophie were so good for each other. They were both a little stubborn and neither really wanted to face the past but they pushed each other forward and helped each other heal and face what they needed to in order to move forward.

They had so much chemistry it was bubbling off the pages. The romance took a bit longer to figure out and I liked that. Ty’s still working through some things so he makes a few blunders along way but he was man enough to own up to them. Sophie had something that she needed to deal with as well, and I’m normally not a fan of people keeping secrets, Sophie keeping this one actually made sense to me.

Romances with kids can be tricky to pull off but I found the ‘triple threat’ as Sophie called the boys to add to the story. They were darling boys in need of a mother and it was fun watching Sophie learn how to tell the identical boys apart and really showed that she was growing closer to them. And they added a bit of comic relief when things because a bit too much.

This was the second book in the Maverick Junction series but it read brilliantly as a standalone. Sure, I want to go back and read book one, but it wasn’t a necessary read to understand this book.

Overall, I absolutely loved this book. Everything in it worked and I the characters truly stood out.

I liked the premise of this that I wanted to try it, despite DNFing the first book in this series. Unfortunately, this had the same pacing problem. For a father of triplets, I felt that they got pushed off the page too often, and the build up to the hero and heroine spending time together came too late to keep me engaged. I also felt like the "not-really-an-ex" possessive, abusive man storyline didn't work at all; it felt unnecessary. This was a DNF for me and I won't be continuing with the series.
