It's GAME ON for popular plus-sized sleuth Odelia Grey

When Odelia Grey and her husband, Greg, attend a rugby match to cheer for their quadriplegic friends, the last thing they expect is to witness a murder on the playing court. Complicating matters is their friendship with the killer--and with the second person who turns up dead. It doesn't help that Odelia's pompous boss, Mike Steele, is embroiled in a mystery of his own--one that leaves more than his super-sized ego bruised and battered.

Odelia enlists the help of family and friends, and gets some surprising assistance coming out of left field. But with a murderer calling the shots, Odelia wonders if she can tackle this dangerous case or if she's out of her league.

Hell On wheels by Sue Ann Jaffarian.

Odelia and Greg are on fire routing for their favorite team the Laguna Lunatics. It was the big competition basketball games between the quadriplegics in their wheelchairs. The competition was fierce but no one could have expected it to be this fierce least of all Odelia and Greg.
Peter Tanaka was a team player on the Ventura Vipers, but that was all he was a team player on. Just back from Canada he was not well liked by most due to his crass behavior. There was bad blood between the two of them from some ugly encounters years before.
And then it happens... during the game. Things got more out of hand than anyone could have ever expected and Peter Tanaka lay lifeless on the floor.
Odelia soon learns this is not the only mysterious incident she'll have to contend with. Her boss, Mike Steele, has met with an accident. He's covered in bruises and barely able to consume liquids threw a straw. When Odelia asks about how this occurred...mum's the word.

A Odelia mystery makes me feel like I'm visiting old friends. The characters have become believably real and the energy never stops. The mystery(s) in this story involved me with every page. A great read with the same Odelia clan I've come to enjoy.

Odelia and her husband Greg are attending a quad rugby tournament when a friend of theirs is accused of killing a jerk on the opposing team. Meanwhile, Odelia’s boss Mike Steel is acting strangely after being beat up while out of town.

Between the two stories, this book is always moving forward. I found both of them intriguing and never wanted to put the book down. The sub-plot with Steel provides us with some great laughs. The characters are as well-developed and charming as ever, which adds to the fun.

Plus-sized paralegal Odelia and her paraplegic husband Greg are attending a quad rugby game when one of the players is killed. Unfortunately, he died as he was fighting their friend Rocky. But when the dead man is found to have cyanide in his system, Rocky is freed. To help Rocky and his missing wife Miranda, Odelia and Greg ignore the advice of their policeman friend and start to investigate. Odelia is also worried about her boss, who was injured in a fight the same day.

I love Odelia and her interesting and eclectic cast of friends. Some are a little unbelievable (Willie and Mother come immediately to mind) and the reader must suspend disbelief, but doing so is easy enough since the ensuing tale is so enjoyable.

I also like that the Odelia Grey books are filled with all sorts of characters. Young, old, short, fat, skinny, cute, plain, with two good legs or in wheelchairs, all ages, shapes, sizes and colors. And characters of every size, race and physical ability can be good or bad, so the reader is never tipped off as to the guilty party. Kind of like people in the real world. Good and bad come in all shapes and sizes. Most, though, are just trying to muddle through as best they can, helping others along the way, like Odelia.

Probably my favorite in the series so far.

I enjoyed that Steele had a story line of his own, not that we follow along with him and experience it. We find out after the fact when he related details to Odelia and when she digs around. In the past Steele has been a backdrop character, just providing someone for Odelia to bounce off of and here he moves part of the plot.

Odelia is a likable character and it's nice to read a mystery series where the main character has her head on straight, is good at her job and has a great personal relationship. The fact that Greg (her husband), a wheelchair bound paraplegic, is not used to garner sympathy (for him or Odelia for taking care of him )or set up as a paragon of the paraplegic community (look at what he's overcome, isn't that wonderful!) was refreshing. He is just a regular working joe who just happens to be in a wheelchair.

When her mother was introduced to the series, I wasn't sure I liked it. She started off as a stock old woman character: mean, cranky, complaining/demanding, but she's developing nicely.

Sometimes the many references in Jaffarian's books about the plus size of her characters irritates me. I'm overweight and I occasionally reflect on how often it comes up in my life compared to the characters in her books. However, I didn't really notice those references in this book. Another plus. Yes, it'a an integral part of the characters, but don't beat us over the head with it.

If you've read any of the other books in the series and liked them, I'm sure you'd enjoy this one. For new readers, if you're looking for a competent, nice female lead I'd give this book a try. Well, I'd start with the first book, but this one stands alone well.

I received a copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This series became a favorite with me pretty quickly. I don't remember just how I stumbled upon them, but the idea of a woman of about my age & size as an unlikely sleuth and then finding romance in the bargain was a a big draw. I like Odelia, I like Greg & I even like PITA Mike Steele. This was a good story, with the return of an interesting character. I do hope Odelia stays around for awhile yet! RECOMMEND!

After reading the first 8 novels, I couldnt wait to read this one. It did not disappoint. I live Odelia as a character. She's down to earth, hard working, totally in love with her husband and absolutely "ordinary" except for talent of finding dead people.
This time it is a man who is an obnoxious womanizer. Player in the quadriplegic rugby league, he is not well liked. Especially by Odelia's husband. Inciting a fight between a member of the opposing team, the crowd watches the fight. And are stunned when the antagonistic man is lying dead at the end of it.
It seems to be a open and closed case until the apparent "killer" is released without charges. How will Odelia solve this mystery? You have to read it for yourself.
I totally recommend this series, and this book.

I am behind on my Odelia Grey mysteries. It's been nice relaxing on this trip enough to catch up on my reading. This one is a doozy with more deaths than usual. I would think that being involved with that many would have a permanent impact on someone.

I had forgotten about a past character, who appears unexpectedly. The luncheon scene at Bouchon, Beverly Hills, was memorable--unfortunately, that restaurant has since closed. Odelia's boss, Steele, has a major role in this book and reveals another facet in his character. Romance is in the air!

Jaffarian's writing has slowed down since she retired and is gallivanting around the country. She is taking her time on publishing new titles. Fortunately, I have plenty of her back list to catch up on.

Odelia's husband Greg loves to play wheelchair sports with his quadriplegic friends. And if he isn't playing, he is on the sidelines cheering them on! At one game, a fight breaks out and the situation quickly turns deadly. Once again, Odelia and Greg are smack dab in the middle of all of the action, mystery, and questions.

All of their friends and acquaintances from this series are helping solve this mystery. Like her previous works, this book is filled with action, love, friendship, mystery, and excitement. Jaffarian always has plenty of twists and turns.

I hate to see this series end. Jaffarian is one of my favorite authors!

Odelia Gray #9 of the series. Two mysteries for the price of one! Mystery number one is a murder on the rugby court during a match for quadriplegic players. The second mystery involves Odelia's boss Mike Steele and a story about a sketchy bar fight. And if that's not enough Odelia's skills at solving mysteries is noticed by the higher ups in the law firm. One of the Big Wigs asks for her help with his elderly mother whom he fears is being conned out of her money. Fast paced, very satisfying book and series. Again, somebody make this a CBS Sunday night show please!

This installment focuses on wheelchair soccer - Odelia Grey's husband Greg is interested in coaching it and their friend Rocky plays it. Of course, if she is involved, a death is likely to occur, and this mystery centers around several. Greg and Odelia partner to conduct their own investigation which is, of course, reveals more information than the police seem to find.

The subplot involves Mike Steele, Odelia's boss at the law firm, but focuses on his personal rather than professional life. I continue to enjoy this cast of characters and will see what's next in their lives in book #10.

Circles upon circles and it took a while to sift through the data to sort out what happened, who did it and their underlying motive. There were also a lot of other things going on that might have been causal. It was a really good read!

Fun murder mystery. I had to restart it because it had been so long since I read the first two chapters, but this time I read the whole thing in a few hours. Not as much about quad rugby as I would have liked but an enjoyable book overall.

This is the ninth book in the series and only the second one I have read but I did enjoy it. Would love sometime to read the whole series. I like the characters. The mystery is good till the end. Easy to follow the lives of the characters even when I have not met them before. Lots of drama, some action. A clean entertaining read.

Odella Grey is the main character. She works for a lawyer Steel. She is middle age and heavy. Her husband is in a wheel chair.

Greg is a businessman. He plays wheel chair basketball but he can't play rugby because he is too physical for it.

I had never heard of rugby before and would like to see a game played sometime.

They are at a rugby match out of town and rooting for their friends. When they witness a murder in front of them. They know the deceased, the accused who started to beat up on the court.

I thought it was funny that everyone of their friends wants in on their case that they assume they will be nosing around in. Even Odella's mother. Their friends even a cop in a nearby city. Even her boss Steel who has his own drama going on wants to be involve ed.
The characters are all different than you expect. From detectives, lawyers, businessman, hookers, quadriplegic rugby players, hired killers. You never know who will show up in the story.

I hated every time I had to put the book down to answer the phone or door I just wanted to find out what happened next. I guessed wrong on who the killer was and why.

I was given this ebook to read by Net Galley and Midnight Ink. In return I agreed to give honest review of Hell on Wheels.

The setting for this book is in California around orange county area.

I want to read more about Odelia & her friends and co-workers in the future.

Odelia and her husband are present at a rugby match to root for their friends when a murder takes place on the court. Being friends with the prime suspect does not exactly help matters. Then Odelia's self-important boss is having a bit of problem of his own which complicates Odelia's life even more. With the help from friends, family and an unexpected source she sets out to dig for the truth. There's just one problem, the killer who is willing to do whatever is necessary to stop her.

A humorous cozy with some thrilling moments. Odelia is the type of character you love to revisit time and again. The author has kept her various characters true to life and written a story that deals with sensitive situations with taste and leaves you feeling as though you are part of the story itself. There is a lot going on but not so much as to feeling rushed or pulled in a dozen different directions at once. My rating is 4 1/2 out of 5 stars.

If you are looking for a super fun mystery read, I highly recommend Sue Ann Jaffarian's Odelia Grey series. Odelia is a plus-size paralegal living in California who finds herself attracting more dead bodies than she knows what to do with!

Hell on Wheels is book 9 in the series. This time, tragedy strikes a friend, and Odelia and her husband, Greg, quickly are tangled up in a new case. Did you know there was a sport called quad rugby? It was very interesting to read about.

After witnessing a murder on court, Odelia and Greg work together with friends to clear a friend's name. As the body count rises, so does the humor. Ms. Jaffarian's witty dialogue make the book a success. And Odelia's boss, Mike Steele, has a mystery of his own. (It's also nice to see how that story pans out! Finally some happiness for Mike!)

While you may have an inkling on who the murderer is, this isn't one where you can predict early on who the prime suspect is. Also, there is quite a bit of scary excitement at the end - which didn't do well for my heart as I hurried through the last section of the book. All in all, a great book!

This is a great series, and I've read most, but not all of them. Odelia is a paralegal who works for a rather arrogant, demanding boss. In this book, her boss Steele has run into some personal problems, leaving him with a beat-up face and a multitude of bruises that he doesn't want to explain. Since he's now home-bound until he heals, he becomes a constant source of stress tied to Odelia by cell and text. Odelia has enough to handle without Steele, since going with her paraplegic wheelchair-bound husband to friends' quadriplegic rugby match has resulted in a fight, a death on the playing floor, their friend accused of murder, and their friends' wife missing.

Jaffarian knows how to write a tightly-plotted book with interesting characters who are not ordinary. She writes plus-sized Odelia with a deft hand, showing her life with all its flaws, never letting Odelia be smacked down without rising to fight anew. Her view of Odelia's life with her paraplegic husband is both compassionate and moving for neither of them believe him to be handicapped, and he doesn't view his life as being bereft of anything, living with both pride and courage.

It's a win for this ninth Odelia Grey mystery!

Author Sue Ann Jaffarian has outdone herself in this spectacular mystery! Not only are we treated to another mystery that just keeps poking Odelia in the face, but also a weaving of beloved characters, with peeks into their lives, that all fit so nicely into the plot line.

As usual, Odelia is minding her own business when a dead body (or two) just happen to jump in her way. While Odelia is doing her best to stay out of it, clues keep "dropping in her lap" while her friends and husband join in on the mystery.

I love the cast of characters and that we learn more about her boss Mike Steele and why Elaine, the assassin for hire, has a soft spot for Odelia. I did miss her mom and her brother, but there was more than enough going on without them.

While this book can be read on its own, the story is so much richer if you have read the previous eight Odelia Grey mysteries. Pick them up at your local library or bookstore if you have the chance. I can't wait until the next one!

Always love to spend a little time with Odelia and Greg. When one of Greg's friends gets into an altercation during a game of quadriplegic rugby and his opponent dies, Greg and Odelia jump at the chance to help prove his innocence when it is later discovered the player actually died of poisoning, not a beating. During the investigation by police, the friend's wife is implicated and later found dead. When her death is ruled a suicide, things just don't add up after talking with numerous other players and family members.

There are two other subplots keeping Odelia busy. First, in the middle of it all, Odelia is called upon by her ever-lovable boss (not so much), Mike Steele, to help cover up an unusual and secretive accident. Secondly, Odelia's reputation for snooping had not gone unnoticed by a higher-up in the company and he asks for her help when he fears his mother is being conned out of her money by an unscrupulous character.

Great story with likable characters. Enjoy reading a story that showcases real life situations.

Paralegal and accidental sleuth Odelia Grey and her husband Greg witness a murder, and it appears to be committed by one of their friends! With Odelia's boss home recovering from injury, Odelia has plenty of time to play detective and find out whodunit.

As with all the books in this series, I love Odelia's candor and blunt approach. This particular mystery included quadriplegic rugby, traffic on the 405, help from the baddest criminal in town, and a very unexpected romance (oh, that part made me HAPPY).

Sue Ann Jaffarian writes a fun, witty, heartwarming story about good versus evil, family relationships, and that dance we call marriage. Jaffarian happens to move the plot along by having the characters go after a murderer... The thrill of the chase, you know?!

This was a pretty good mystery about a woman who has a talent for stumbling over dead bodies and a desire for investigating them. I liked the idea of the book more than the actual reading of it. Odelia Grey is married to a paraplegic in a wheelchair, who seems like a great guy, except for his desire to participate in brutal contact sports (quad rugby or murderball). I liked the fact that she wasn't your standard cute little perky protagonist, but sometimes I found the way that all their friends get into fights kind of disturbing. And the plot was standard in that the person who gets murdered is found out to be so flawed that you don't really care. Still, major points for a different approach to a mystery series.

I love so many things about this latest installment of the Odelia Grey series! I love that Odelia and Greg team up to solve several murders, including murders of two of their friends. I especially love getting a glimpse into Steele, and seeing a much different side of him than we usually do. The world of quad rugby was new to me and I found it interesting. I love that Greg is such a champion and doesn't let his handicap hold him back. Great book by a favorite mystery author! I'm already looking forward to the next book and hope to learn more about Steele and his new relationship.

Best book in the Odelia Grey series! Visits by a few characters from previous books. The softer sides of characters revealed. Suspected who the killer was after the first visit, but the reason for the murder was hidden well. So much action was going on that the obvious was hidden. Police kept talking about a murder suicide of the married couple, but being it was an Odelia Grey book, I knew that couldn't be. I like that Odelia's husband has come to terms with his wife's need to seek the truth. The book was a page turner from the get go. As usual, I totally devoured the story.

There was a lot going on in this one. Mike Steele was part of a personal mystery. Mother sprang up repeatedly through the pages and then there was the main mystery involving friends of Odelia and Greg. I enjoyed the cozy mystery, but didn't get engrossed in it until close to the end.

Odelia was true to character, but the bulk of the character development was done by Greg. He's definitely finding his voice.

Great read, especially if you've followed the series from the beginning.

This is the first Odelia Grey mystery I have read but I'll certainly be reading more. It has a plucky, funny, chubby amateur detective with an intelligent, paraplegic husband. The mystery kept me interested and the plot flowed nicely. I love that the author chose a protagonist who embraces her curves.

Odelia does it again

Once again Odelia cannot resist the siren call of a whodunit. Her husband Greg is now just as much of a sleuthing junkie as she is. With a myriad of unsolved situations at work and at play, she and Greg dive in to help their friends and end up setting everything to rights with some surprising help from an old enemy.
