While describing the many mean things his older brother, Gordon, does to him on his birthday, from giving him a noogie to dropping his toothbrush in the toilet, Max unexpectedly discovers that Gordon is not all bad when he saves him from a scary spider.

When she isn't writing, she's reading, baking, biking, bird-watching, or dreaming about all the places on her bucket list.
I've recently re-read this book. Still trying to figure out what makes it a hit.
I find the story and the illustrations sort-of frightening. I suppose that's the point of the book but do little kids really like being read this type of thing? Or is it just a sign of our times that many teachers and librarians will purchase the book just because it is so visually 'different' from so many of the other choices available?
As an aspiring children's book author, I am interested in this book because my book (not published yet, in the shopping around stage, may have to self publish) also features sibling vs. sibling dynamic but without the outright bully of a big brother.
I am interested to hear from anyone who has recommendations for some other picture books with the theme of sibling rivalry, sibling bullies, etc. especially when the characters are 4 years old up to about 8 or 10 y.o.
