My name is Magnus Aurelius Clovis Gerzia Gravlock, and this is the conclusion of the story that I have spent nearly forty years of my life spinning….
The moment has come. Kingdoms have fallen and new ones have risen to take their places. And through it all, I have worked with one, single-minded purpose: to bring to life the vision of peace and prosperity that my dearest Rurik never lived to see.
I will see our dream of a frontier united in love and friendship come to fruition if it is the last thing I do. But first, wicked wolves need to be hunted and thwarted, our allies need to be determined and our enemies weeded out, and the last, surprising foe who would seek to ruin everything the rest of us have attempted to build must be dealt with. Once and for all.
I would fly to the ends of the earth it if made my beloved Peter and Neil happy. I would lay down my life to spare our friends, Jace and Gennadi, and the rest of the Sons of the Cities, any harm.
And when all is said and done, I might just have to do that….
USA Today Bestselling author Merry Farmer lives in suburban Philadelphia with her two cats, Justine and Peter. She has been writing since she was ten years old and realized she didn't have to wait for the teacher to assign a creative writing project to write something. It was the best day of her life. Her books have reached the top of Amazon's charts, and have been named finalists for several prestigious awards, including the RONE Award for indie romance.
Oh my god it’s finished! 18 books later. This one was from the POV of Magnus. This was the first time we’ve ever gotten his POV and it was perfect. This was Magnus’ dream. Magnus’s magnum opus. And we got to see it all finally come together through his eyes. It also really humanized him. He has always seemed almost like a mystical figure before. But now we saw and felt everything with him. For did I weep with him!
I just really wish we got to see what happened to Kai and Fedir. It really bothered me that it was never confirmed whether or not they made it safely to Novoberg. And it was never confirmed whether or not Conrad and Dushka are still together or not. There’s been no mention of their relationship since Solstice Stories and Other Tales from the Frontier.
This finally series in the Peterverse was definitely more political heavy and less romance or spice than the rest of the series. All the main characters already got their HEAs, but I certainly would have appreciated more books with more HEAs. Such as Sai, and perhaps some of the other pups we recently met. I would welcome anything more in this world.
Though there have been plenty of side trips to give other characters in this sprawling cast a chance to shine, the through-line of this epic series has always been Peter. So, while it seems weird that the final book detailing this era of the Frontier should be from Magnus's point of view instead, it's actually amazingly perfect. Men like Peter are who Magnus has been working toward this future for the entire time, and I appreciated being able to see everything come to fruition through his eyes. I'm completely invested in this world and will happily return to it as often as the author decides, but I'm also entirely satisfied with how this phase of the story has concluded.
I have read every book since Merry Farmer created this amazing universe. I've watched all the characters grow and become strong, capable leaders. Out of all the books from Peter's world, this has got to be some of Merry Farmer's best work. I laughed, I cried, and I hated for this particular book to end. This brilliant author put all of her love and passion into this story, and you can tell it. Bravo, Ms. Farmer. I'm headed back to chapter 1 to read this one all over again.
This whole Saga, despite being primarily narrated by Peter, has always been Magnus's story. To have this final installment presented by him was bittersweet and somehow perfect.
I also greatly enjoyed the presence of Rurik in this book, not just as stories or a ghost, but a living part Magnus's psyche. It brought a man, long dead, back to life.
I am completely enthralled with this saga. Merry not only has a way with words but a phenomenal way of describing people and places. I am at a loss for words when recommending this world!
I just loved all 3 series and each book of them. Hate that it's over. Great to read from Magnus's (I love that Rurik called him Maggy) POV. Loved how things turned out, but I
I was so incredibly excited to get Magnus’s story in his own words. As much as he seems like the unflappable leader, there is so much emotion underneath that tough surface. We get to hear more about his upbringing; how it both damaged him but also shaped and inspired him. The story of his love with Rurik, and how it affected his entire life. And I loved hearing him express his love for Neil and Peter (Magnus, I love Neil as much as you do!) This was the tying up of so many loose ends, and the culmination of Magnus’s dream, not be a king, but a husband and a father. We also get to see so many of the usual suspects, the Sons, the Wolves, and the Pups. Merry did say this story isn’t over, and there are more characters and stories left in this world. But for Magnus, he’s ended where he’s always wanted to be. Thank you, Merry, for this beautiful adventure, and for bringing these men into our lives (because they are 1000% real 🤣) A beautiful ending to an epic story!
