Crime & Legal Thriller:
Alex Peterson, the defense lawyer, really had his hands complete with taking on a case where he was helping an old client's daughter, who had been accused of murder.
While this is happening, Alex is having problems with his ex-wife over the custody of his son Lucas.
The murder case Alex has taken on is a good read as you kept turning the pages till the end. And that ending was quite a turn and unexpected. Who was the real murderer in the 'Guilty Law' story? There will be a lot that will come out as the courtroom drama unfolds. You must pick this story up to see how it all comes out.
I especially liked the extended epilogue on how things turned out so well for Alex and his son.
After 10% into the novel, I quit. The first part has Alex responding to an old friend's outreach - her missing daughter is being sought in connection with the murder of a film director. He goes to her home, where police are all over the place looking for evidence against the daughter. What does this guy do? Gets in by telling a cop he's the woman's lawyer and proceeds to talk with her in the presence of the police. Has he asked to see the warrant? Is there a warrant? Does he ask for a private space to talk with his client? Does he keep his client blabbing details about her daughter right there in front of police officers? Well, all the answers to these questions tell me that this guy is the last lawyer I would ever want representing me. So, nope. Sorry. Not gonna waste my time.
Alex is an attorney who is divorced from his wife and is not able to have visitation with his son Lucas. He is so upset that he does not want to work or try cases. Until a client named Eloise comes to him about her daughter Chloe. Chloe was involved with a movie producer who was killed, and she is being charged with the murder. Eloise begs for his help. Alex takes the case only to find problem.after problem. How can he help Chloe? And, how can he get to spend time with Lucas?
Spoilers are some obvious errors that should have been caught by editor—things like using “she” when the sentence should say “he”. There were only a couple.
I was well into the tapestry of this novel and ready to wend my way through the plot, but I seemed to get side tracked with either misspellings or misplaced words. Pronouns were interchanged along with other wording. Once I got into a more critical mode I began to question interactions and then questionable legal practices. As I finished this book there was a feeling of missing out, that it would have held my attention better with a little more preliminary care. Just one more rewrite to tighten up procedures and dialogue and then follow up with a proof reader. Future offerings will likely be better with experience.
This novel could very well be ripped from real life. The legal battles are just part of the story. The emotions and relationships had me believing that horrible people will stop at nothing to get what they want while rooting for the under dog. The plot twist at the very end was shocking but oh so satisfying. There were numerous grammatical errors but still a highly entertaining read.
Alex Peterson is an attorney by name only, more a guy hiding from his past. However, he as to step back into the fray when an old client implores him to help her daughter. She’s been accused of murdering a notable film maker.
This one is a well written legal thriller. Courtroom drama is well described and some of the characters are well fleshed. Should’ve all of them been as well defined I would’ve given at least a star more! I’m interested in the second book of this serie!
He is a well-known attorney who has fallen from grace thanks to the lies spewed by his ex. As a result it has affected his ability to try cases. When a woman comes to him about her daughter being falsely accused of murder Alex takes the case but runs into several problems with it. Will he be able to get her free of the crime. I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.
Who do you! Love? what would you do for love? I really did like the whole story and group of people as they worked together. Good reaad. Will move on to the next story!
A good story that was told well. Characters are well developed and you grow to like them. The twist ending was a little easier to see coming than it should have been. Also, a lot of typos.
The only way I could get through this book was to narrate as if English was not my 1st language, telenovella style. The grammatical & spelling errors were abundant! My favorite: he was "killed by blue force trauma". I will not be forcing myself through the rest of the series.
The book was enjoyable but only gave it 1 star as I believe an epilogue should within the book itself with out having to give your details and signing in. Therefore I will not be reading any more of these books.
There is a lot of improper spelling and some incorrect names. For instance, Matthew is stated for Alex on numerous occasions. Some sentences don’t really make sense and you have to reread to understand. Very poor editing.
Good story but the emotional parts of the story were retold over and over. Kind of like my book reports in grade school to get to the required length. But over all a worthwhile read
He has a good premise. However, I am a middle school teacher and the writing seemed to be directed to that level of reader. Clearly the content was not middle school, but the writing style was. That was a bit of a turn off for me.
Wtiting and editing are weak. Story was OK but the "surprise " ending was obvious about halfway through. I hope the author works to improve, but I'll take a pass.
An implausible story line when an attacker decides to throw himself on his sword. It needed fleshing out. I will read the next in the series to see if things improve.
