Dad Bod Monster #9

Dad Bod: Troll

Rate this book
One billionaire troll, one accidental auction, one huge mistake…

'Earn extra £££ in just one night, human females only.' Never look a gift...troll in the mouth. Or answer a flyer pushed through your door...

Not following my own advice is how I found myself standing on a stage, squinting into a bright light while a monster auctioneer shouts out sums of money the like of which I've never even imagined.

And now I've been bought by the biggest troll I've ever seen, at an auction I shouldn't even have been involved in.

Max offers me a deal, if I agree to spend the month with him as his companion, he'll pay me what I cost at the auction, no strings attached.

He might have the deepest, darkest most sinful voice I think I've ever heard and when he shows me to the most opulent penthouse I've ever encountered, complete with library, I'm more than tempted.

As the month goes by, I find I like spending time with my handsome, built-for-comfort, grumpy troll, who turns out to be far sweeter than his granite exterior implies. Yet, all of this is simply a business arrangement, and I can't forget it.

I'm sure I must have made a big mistake and I'm having second thoughts about the deal. Max offered me a lifetime of ease with his contract, but am I selling my soul...or am I more scared of losing my heart when all of this inevitably comes to an end?

Dad Troll is a standalone monster romance from USA TODAY Bestselling Author Hattie Jacks, filled with a dominant grumpy troll who knows exactly what he wants, a sunshine human, age gap fake relationship, fated mates and a delicious size difference which will get you hot under the collar!

Part of the Dad Bod monster series.

3.25 stars!

A down on her luck girl finds herself in the wrong place at the right time...well kind of. Getting swept up in an auction, Vikki ends up with a job working for a troll named Max that brought all the daddy vibes.

Max sees Vikki and knows she's his mate. What's a grumpy troll like him to do? Surely she couldn't want someone like him. Right?

“I was promised dessert.” I stalk towards her, catching her up in my arms and depositing her on the bed. “And dessert is a promise which means I absolutely will fit, and you’ll ride my thick troll cock until both of us see the heavens.”

Cute story with a cute ending. Not as steamy as I would have liked it but overall an enjoyable read.

Umm… wow

I’m baffled at where the plot went in the last 80% of this book. It was so unnecessary, I cannot🤣

And the MC’s librarian, were we supposed to care about him?! He was barely part of the story. And don’t even get me started on how the witch who owed the MC a favor “returned it.” Ridiculous🙄

🔥 “That’s my good girl.”
~~~
Vikki is so awesome! She’s kind and hardworking. Even more, she’s strong, brave and resilient. She also doesn’t back down from challenges and is ready to face any hardships thrown her way. And she’s so sassy! Vikki is a wonderful woman and I loved her so, so much!
And then, we have Max! Mr. Maxim Horenson, owner of Quake Industries, is quite the impressive and intimidating male! He’s very rich, bold, direct, demanding, confident and so, so grumpy and growly. But there’s another side of the bossy and ruthless troll, which he doesn’t show often and which I absolutely adored! Max is also fiercely protective, generous, irresistibly charming, caring, thoughtful and so deliciously dominant. And that filthy, filthy mouth of his! Max is an incredible male and I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Vikki and Max! Vikki is barely making ends meet but a flyer, pushed through her door, might be the thing she needs to make everything better. Until, she finds herself on a stage being auctioned to a huge, growly and absolutely gorgeous troll. And the grumpy billionaire is smitten with the tiny human woman from the moment he sees and smells her. What starts as a business arrangement, very soon becomes something so much more… I adored Max and Vikki together! Their chemistry was off-the-charts right from the start and I absolutely loved their banters and teasings. The spice… was so, so SPICING and I couldn’t get enough of the passionate moments they shared. When a male like Max calls you his good girl… Well… your panties are goners. Vikki and Max were absolutely perfect for each other and, after all the challenges they went through, they more than deserved to find happiness and love together!
Overall, the story is a wonderful, fun, sweet, captivating and very, very naughty read and I absolutely loved every page of it!
This book is damn spicy. I mean from the start you get to read the story from both of the main characters point of view. Sometimes this is boring, but it is FAR from that with Max and Vikki. The witty banter is good , but the smoldering ,confident (sometimes arrogant ) troll has found his perfect match. Max's librarian and the other creatures of this book come off the page with their own personalities that make them memorable and special. Vikki isn't some basic damsel and I love her way if working through a problem plus, having a good coffee machine knowledge goes a long way no matter where you are. The cigar smoking, bigger than life ex battle troll is also a charmer and the kind of dominant man that would haunt my dreams. I love how the Max reins himself in when needed, but protects what's his with a vengeance.
I will 100 % be getting the rest of this series. Dad bods sounds like the way to go ! 😉
I’ve kept it no secret that I love Hattie Jacks’ work, and this is no exception. While I’m used to reading alien related books from Hattie Jacks, this one falls more in the realm of upper/lower worlds combining on Earth.
With a grumpy and possessive MMC, Maxim, and a strong-willed and feisty FMC, Victoria, this story takes you on a ride through an accidental meeting, insta-mates, and slow burn. I personally love a grump MMC denying his feelings, and this book delivered. Everything from start to finish was a slow build of closeness between both main characters, and I enjoyed every bit of the ride.
If you’re looking for a low drama (there is a bit of drama in there, but no 3rd act breakup), sweet, spicy, read, this one is for you!
Tropes:
Grumpy/sunshine
Age gap
Size difference
Fake relationship
Fated mates
If this doesn't get your motor running, then nothing will. An amazing story from start to finish.
Despair and frustration lead Vikki to uncharted territory. When an ad comes flying through her letterbox, Vikki's troubles seem to lighten. Employment at its finest awaits her.
Max, who is a grumpy old soul, is very much set in his ways. When he finds himself captivated by the scent of a female, he finds himself completely and utterly under her spell.
This story doesn't just captivate you. You are lured in....willingly. You feel every emotion that Max struggles with. His desperation and defeatedness breaks your heart. The sacrifice he makes is pure and given freely.
A wonderful story with amazing, compassionate characters. I was sad to see this end 😢
Vee and Max are adorable!
It is all business to Vikki. She needs to pay rent and jobs are scarce. She stumbles into an opportunity and meets Max. He is all business and a super grump. He offers to have her to live with him as his fake gf for making social appearances for a month. Females don't matter until he meets HIS female. She is his fate and he will do ANYTHING to keep her. He spoils her and eats her very burnt food. He is floored with how real and very adorable she is with everything she does for him. Super endearing couple. She tries to keep it all business but is falling. Great, easy read that'll leave ypu craving more.
The story starts off by introducing us to Vikki, or down on her luck main character. Which gets her booted from her apartment and smack dab in the middle of an auction hall, where Max our lovable Troll.
This book had a great story, loveable characters, and one of the best stories I have read in a while (pertaining to monster romance). If you need something comforting, amusing and unbelievably loving head to amazon and grab this book by Hattie Jacks on April 26th! You will not regret it I promise!
Vikki and Max were so adorable together! I’m a fan of the “sunshine + grumpy = happy” trope and this one didn’t disappoint. Max being the older, jaded, grumpy pants of the two was besotted by Vikki immediately when he saw her up for auction. He had to have her. From attempting to purchase her during the auction and then to hiring her…he wasn’t going to let her get away. Vikki, who was down on her luck and just trying to make ends meet, really did hit the jackpot with Max.
I’ve been enjoying the Dad Bod series written by various authors and was super excited to read the one by Hattie Jacks. I’m a huge fan of Hattie’s books and writing so unsurprisingly I really liked this book. It was funny, amusing, spicy, and gave you the happy feels at the end.
I loved this book, Vikki has essentially run out of options with her current job and answers a flyer. By mistake is auctioned off, and finds the deal of a lifetime that she cannot pass off. It was so nice to have a couple that got along so well and liked each other from the start. Max is a lovable grump who only has eyes for his girl and will stop at nothing to make her his 😍
The spice was good in this as well, definitely a cute and short read that you won’t want to miss!
I loved the main character Vikki and actually really loved the plot. I even loved Max, at first, but I felt like he was very into sex and like nothing else? And when the last 80% of the book unfolds, he’s drunk and useless and not at all a hero until like… well I don’t even know when. I had high hopes but if it was real life, I would dump Max for that, instantly. I couldn’t buy into the romance beyond that point. The librarian and Peter cared more about her.
Okay
For me, this story was just ok. I didn't really feel a connection with the characters, and I struggled to keep my attention on the story. I usually don't have that problem with this author, so maybe it was just me. It's not a bad story, just not one of the better ones. But that is only my opinion.
Wow
This was new. I found this book because I like hattie jacks. You're big growly alien birdman. If you know what I mean you'll have to read her other series. This was actually truly amazing.I'm going to check this series of books and see what are the authors?I mean find some new ones. I can't wait. To read more of the dad bought series.
Cute
This was a cute, quick fantasy read and I loved that it included a troll. I don't think I've read anything with a troll love interest before so it was nice to have something a little different. The plot is fast paced, filled with some spice and a little bit of angst for good measure . And who doesn't love a good love interest with a fantastic library.
This was not my fave. It had its good moments, like the spice, but the plot seemed a bit contrived to me.
Spice: 4/5
Triggers: power imbalance, mention of family death, sexual harassment, kidnapping, drugging, beginning stages of trafficking, forced stripping (not forced by MC), financial hardship
I love a good Troll Hero!
Trolls are so not hero material.
At least, that's what most of the stories lead us to think.
Trolls are so misrepresented as they are the most honorable of all monsters.
Just misunderstood.
Max has Vee and they both get the chance for Fate to catch up with them in a good way.
They deserve a happily ever after, but they'll have to fight for it.
HEA!
Ah this was such a cute story. Love a grumpy sunshine trope and the fact that it's monsters is just a bonus. This book had everything and more than I was expecting but it was all amazing. Such a fun read.
Well. It's a Hattie Jacks book *laughs* super strong in the first half the rushes through the end. I'm waiting for the day she flushes out the end of the book.
But all in all it's a cute, predictable read with a little spice.
As always,
Peace, Love, and Piracy
loved it.
Our MMC may be a grumpy troll but he was absolutely lovable. He was like a sticky glue that cannot and would not be removed from his fated mate Vikki. I loved the story and I'd like more from them.
Very enjoyable & heart felt story
The characters are very good. How a troll can be both grumpy & affectionate is really cute. Vikki is really down on her luck, just trying to make it day to day, when fate steps in. This is a outstandingly frank, sexually charged story.
Did I happen upon this series on accident? yes.
Did I enjoy it? HELL YESSS
Do I feel a little shame for reading them? maybe...
This series was a nice palate cleanser. It was exactly what I needed after reading some emotionally damaging books earlier this year.
Spice is there. Plot is somewhat present. LOL.
Soooo deliciously good!!
This one is a tad darker than the others. It’s low angst but felt a bit darker. It definitely had pretty woman vibes at one point though! That is certainly not a bad thing! Loved this afternoon read! Hope you love it as much as I did
HOT!!
I loved this more than I thought I would. Vicki and Max were so adorable. I loved the way Max, the big bad troll, melted for Vicki. My only complaint, and the reason this book did not receive 5 stars was the amount of typos and errors throughout the book.
It was a bit disjointed at the beginning; for the first few chapters, I felt like I was missing something (I'm not sure if I need to read the rest of the series or not 🤔)
I loved Vee and Max. They were adorable! All the side characters (Olly!) were hilarious and helped make this book even better than if it were just the 2 main characters.
The spice scenes were 🥵 I didn't know I needed some big troll 🍆 in my books.
Thank you to the author and team for being able to ARC read this.
all over the place
This book was odd because for the most part, the plot made absolutely no sense, scenes just popped out of nowhere barely any transitions. It was very odd.
