I was taken, kidnapped by traffickers and sold like cattle at a market.
All for a magic that runs deep through my families bloodline.
Now Lord Eldrion claims me as his own. Cold and cruel he parades me around as a Lady of not only the citadel but his lands, all while refusing to look me in the eyes when he addresses me.
This life is worse than death, where others would embrace the luxury I see it as nothing more than a gilded cage.
But there is one person who sees me, who dares to defy Lord Eldrion. He too is a prisoner here, trained and forced to entertain visitors at the citadel.
Like me he is trapped, but even after all this time his spirit is not broken, he is the light in this darkness.
It is in the darkness where we must meet, it is in the shadows of the citadel where we grow dangerously close. Each stolen moment the only chance I have to claw at any semblance of control.
But if Lord Eldrion found out, if he knew, I fear what he what he would do to us.
Despite this fear I can’t stop myself, that need to have control of something, that is what pulls me close to him. In this cold place I have found someone like me who is bound by invisible chains.
I am still on the fence about this book. I’m not big on the whole “chosen one” trope in general, so I’m not surprised I have mixed feelings. Beyond stereotypical fierce impulsive redhead with a hero complex, and some guilt, she didn’t have much personality. Like, who was she and what were her hopes and dreams? What was her family like? The background beyond some info on Kayan and her past relationship with him was also vague. I’m assuming book 2 gives more info on MMCs backstories. It just wasn’t for me.
Spice: 5/5
Triggers: murder, violence, gore, captivity, kidnapping, mention of long-term stalking, voyeurism - unknown to character being watched, starvation, poisoning, public execution involving maiming and falling from great height, mentions of maiming of children, trafficking, sexual harassment
I don’t even quite know where to begin with this one. Not my usual read. Honestly I picked it because I needed a J title for my alphabet reading challenge. The writing itself is good, easy to follow. There is a fair amount of spice. I am not a fan of triangles - or multiple love interests (and multiple POVs past 3). Ok, so this book is about Alana. A leper in her forest fae community after an “accident” in which she lost control of her empath powers and hurt her then fiancé Kayan. After spending a century alone, shunned by her people, Alana makes a plan to sneak out to a masquerade celebration. Here she meets a masked man, there is chemistry and boom - he disappears after an attack on her city which sees her captured with her fellow fae and sold. She is sold to Lord Eldrion, a powerful fae, feared by all. But he takes a special interest in Alana. At her first feast in the palace, she runs into the masked man, Eldrions Jester Finn. And then all kinds of odd chaos and spicyness occur. The plot never really evolved. This book is more about the spice than the fantasy content. I don’t know how to feel about this one.
Somehow I'm not really sure. Everything happened so fast and in general a lot happened in a short period of time. Whenever the story finally moved on and got new clues to it randomly placed spice scenes appeared and destroyed the reading experience. The spice itself was also strange at times... not easy to understand exactly what was happening.
I liked it but also not really liked it? The idea is great, but I guess I'm not quite satisfied how it turned out. Let's see what part 2 holds up for me
This book has it all!! Action, suspense, spice, death, and all the things. I devoured this book! I have so many questions and the need for book two is real. The main female character is strong and knows what she wants and she’s not afraid to go get it. I have a feeling things are going to twist and not all is what it seems. I love the world that’s been created and the characters are so dynamic. This book was truly a pleasure to read.
Thrust into magicial world full of revelations, mysteries and lots of questions. You will find it hard to put down as Alana finds out the secrets people have been keeping from her. I can't wait to read what happens next
that was sooooo bad mary sue chosen one who is so super special. The only characters who seemed remotely consistently were the side characters and the villain. Mary Sue FMC was all over the place, had motivations one moment, the next she didn't, her actions made no sense, her inner monologue would be "bad guy evil and sinister and im gonna pretend to work with him to take him down", the very next second she's jacking off to him jacking off, and then fucks him in a half second flat while trying to escape and help others escape a literal tyrant. if she was gonna have feelings or inclinations to the dude, maybe build them better instead of "oh he evil tyrant who literally buys people as slaves" "oh I'm wet af and gonna crank my shit at him", "oh that was so embarrassing i cant believe I did that" to literally fucking him with no preamble. I am not exaggerating it was literally that much whiplash and cheesy writing. the world building was terrible too, and the fantasy world feels like it was made to just exist for the sake of the book, and had no tangibility or intricacy to it, like she made it up as she wrote it. By far one of the worst books I have read, and despite it being on kindle unlimited, I feel like I need some type of refund or compensation bc jesus christ my poor eyes
Overall, the book was very enjoyable and had some great spice. I wouldn't necessarily say it was well written, but it was fun. There were some moments that didn't make a lot of sense, and some plot holes. But in general it was a fun book with interesting characters, and an interesting magic system. I would really give it 3.7 starts honestly, but we round up here. All of that being said, there was one plot moment that made me so frustrated, which kept it from getting more stars.
Cue stupidly long rant:
Her anger with Finn made literally no sense. I can understand being a little upset that he didn't tell her, but she didn't seem to care about that. She was angry he reported on her in general.
She didn't care at all that Briory actually did betray her, after they were friends, and was the reason Kayan died. She didn't give it a second thought because Briory "was afraid." Even though Briory knew what would happen if she told, and Henrick was already dead so it wouldn't have even mattered. Also, even if he wasn't dead, telling Eldrion would not have saved his life.
But when she finds out that Finn was watching her for Eldrion, she was furious. He had absolutely no idea who she was, or what the plans for her were. He was a literal slave, who could be killed at any moment, along with all the people he cared about, if he didn't obey. Again, he didn't know her at all at the time. He was just giving random information on some random person who didn't seem to matter at all.
Also, Finn wasn't even the reason they were all taken. That was a completely unrelated event that would have happened regardless. If Finn hadn't been reporting on her, then Eldrion wouldn't know or care that they were taken, and they all would've been sold separately into even worse situations than they were in.
So yeah, I get being upset that he didn't tell her, but her being so furious and talking about how she could never trust him again, when she had no problem trusting Briory (again, the one who actually betrayed her and got someone killed) made no sense.

I have mixed emotions about this book. The beginning was super compelling for me and I really enjoyed it, but then some things happened that I didn’t really care for. Mostly that one of the male leads has a magic peepee that fixes all issues. The one person who has always had her back and was her first love dies in the worst way possible and she’s forced to watch it? It’s fine, she just has to bang her current lover and it’s all fine. Same guy has been lying to her this whole time? No worries. She’ll just tie him up and shove an icicle up his butt. All is well! There were also several inconsistencies that I saw as well. One of the members of her clan is killed at the place they were auctioned off, but for some reason his body is in the dungeon of the castle? When did he get there? Did someone think it would be a good idea to just drag him along or…? Then there’s a time during the first rebellion that causes the first love character to die. The guards report that it was during a hose down that they attacked, but that’s definitely not what happened. A pregnant woman pretended she was giving birth and they attacked him when he came in. So I’m just confused. I honestly would have given this a lower star rating, but I did enjoy most of the book the majority of the time. I’m just hoping part 2 will be better.

Enjoyment level: 3 ⭐ World building 3 Plot: 4 ⭐ Characters: 3 ⭐ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Overall rating: 3 ⭐
I honestly don't know how I feel about this. It's the kind of book that will either be made or broken by the second book!
I liked the world, but feel like you are sort of thrown into it. I think it is meant to be like Alana, as she seems to know remarkably little about the world she inhabits. But I feel like it leaves you wondering a bit too much.
Honestly, it's hard to know who the love interest is. There are three options, Finn, Eldrion and Kayan. The whole book is quite dark in a lot of ways but also a very quick and easy read. It leaves you suspicious of everyone.
I do quite like the vibe of it. It's dark and strange and you are kept guessing throughout. I feel like Keldrion is made too much of a villain, but he is also incredibly villainous.
Honestly I don't know if it is direction less or brilliantly setting up the next book plot points. It could go either way!
The spice spices, but doesn't do an awful lot for me. It often seems rushed, and I think a bit less of it but with more emotional engagement would have been good.
All in all, it's a solid 3 from me. Not bad, but I feel like it just created a lot of questions and didn't give any answers.
I’m a bit unsure about this one. It’s one I had high hopes for, I mean to start with you have the FMC whose life is turned upside down when she is captured and sold off to the cruel, dark Lord. Then you have the romance side, the spice. There’s the action - it has all the makings for a great read, but I’m just not sure how I feel about it.
For starters, I’m struggling to get a feel for the characters, there doesn’t seem to be much to them. Where’s the emotion? The connection? Kinda feels a bit bland. Also - there’s a lot of unanswered questions, what happened before this? The build up? Feels like we are thrown in the “middle” part of the book. Maybe we will get answers book 2 or 3??
I’m a bit confused about the plot 😂 still not completely sure what’s going on and who I’m supposed to like or hate😂
I have so many questions that I just need to carry on with book 2 in the hopes that we get answers 😂😂
There’s potential here and I’m not giving up just yet!!! 🤞🏼
I read this entire book and I was definitely finding myself caught up in the spicey scenes and the lovely love triangle it’s got going on. I will say it’s a short book, so maybe the speed run of romance and character development are partly due to that. I found myself saying woah okay we’re just skipping a heads weeks here days there when most other books may have slowed down to really build the tension and provide more character development. Slight spoiler the rebellion at the end felt like it came out of left field and that to me was partially due to how quick everything progressed which directly conflicted with some of the characters and their assumed loyalties or what you as the reader have determined is their personality. Overall easy read, fun spicy scenes, I don’t think I’ll be reading the rest of the series though.
I am not a reader of spicy books, and this one is SPICY. WHEW! But the story is so captivating that I couldn't put it down.
Alana, a Leafborne fae with a power both feared and desired, the mysterious Jester, and Eldrion the Sunborne King of the fae...a love triangle we didn't know we needed. I really enjoyed the story and am not sure who I want to win Alana's heart. Finn has secrets that I hope we discover in future books. Eldrion is not as cold as initially thought. Alana's entire village is kidnapped and sold into salvery. Eldrion, the dark king of the fae, brings Alana to his castle...for love, sex, or something more sinister? Alana meets the Jester again. Tries to save her friends, learns more about her powers, and may even fall in love. OMG! You have to read this book.

I genuinely do not know exactly what I was expecting when I read this one. It was surprising how much I did like the book but I also struggled with "WHO IS THE LOVE INTEREST???" Sorry, that was a bit intense. Seriously though. Based on the beginning of the book I thought it was Kayan, but then Finn comes into the story, and Eldrion too. Also, who is actually the bad guy? There are so many questions and I think (Hope)some of these questions will be answered in the next books. I saw another review that said this is the kind of story that will be made or broken by the next book and I agree.
Overall, I actually really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next one when it comes out. It was a quick read, easy to digest, and had a lot of great twists and turns.

The world building for this was really interesting. I got about halfway through when I got confused on the romance in the plot. I wasn't sure who to ship or what was going on, and so I looked up reviews that said it was a love triangle, and noped out. The love interest being the Jester really didn't click for me. Otherwise, the writing was compelling and the worldbuilding was good. I thought with it being labeled a dark romance that it would be...darker? And the love interests wouldn't be the good guys and victims as well lol. I think I just had different expectations based on marketing and genre expectations, and when I realized it was different than those expectations, I wasn't interested anymore.
A fairy tale with spice, but the spice is getting kinky and it's embarrassed that is being written about.. the relationships never actually evolve past it. Dunno it just wasn't hitting the vibra.. i mean the vibes.
The second book gave me hopes for the last book. The story and plot itself was much more engaging, despite the unnecessary filler scenes. Fast moving, we see more vilans and character the velopment. I love the multiple POVs and sure they feel a bit much but it all comest together in the last two chapters of the third book why those were necessary.
There was a huge potential in the series but so many things happen, yet nothing happens at the same time.It should have just been re-edited into one 600 page book and call it a stand alone than a triology.
This started out really well, with intriguing concepts and interesting characters. But then things started getting weird:
1. The plot is chaotic as the story continues 2. The sex scenes were all a bit off. They didn’t feel motivated, nor did the characters’ romantic feelings, and once some more BDSM stuff started happening, it was all about power rather than trust or letting go and it just didn’t feel right. The consent wasn’t really there, either, and some of it felt like using rough sex for revenge since that consent wasn’t shown sufficiently. 3. The twist or reveal, if you can call it that, was neither breadcrumbed enough nor hidden enough to be a surprise at all.
I am uncertain about my feelings regarding this book. I had seen advertisements on TikTok and thought I would love the story. However, it lacked the elements I had seen in the ads. While I enjoyed the story, I did not feel emotionally connected to the characters. Additionally, I felt that the writer skipped over certain details, which left me confused.
For instance, one moment she is in the dungeon helping the prisoners, and the next moment she is engaging in bondage play with Finn. I went back to try to figure out when they left the dungeon or if they were still in the dungeon doing this in front of everyone.
after beeing isolated for many years by the villagers, they all get kidnapped by the evil lord, Alana don't get put in a cell like the others. she's gets her own rom, and servants. Now she need to know why, before it's too late.
I like how most of it is written, but the sex comes out off nowhere and feels off. The end leaves some clues for what the next book will be. this is a quick easy read in a world of different type of fea. the 4 stars are for the fun it was to read, how eazy it was to read and to some off the characters. this book don't have that much depth. but it's a quick easy read.
Short summary: an outcast fae is kidnapped and bought at auction by the king.
Another TikTok recommended read 🙄
Honestly loved the style where some of the main characters who have POV chapters die as I always assume that they survive, but other than that the book sucked!
There were description clashes - in one scene the MMC isn’t wearing a mask and then he is?! And the hair colour of the king changes??!! - and everything happened waaaay too quickly. There wasn’t enough time to take everything in.
There were trigger warnings, but I honestly didn’t feel like the book warranted it, but as usual, READ AND ACKNOLWEDGE!

I loved it! With great plot, so many questions and a great spice it was a very interesting read! We are encircled with mystery and massive amount of questions from the beggining. Then as the plot passes we get some answers, but only some. I have a feeling the tables are going to turn in second book in the series. Not everything is what it seems. As the action is swift I loved that Alana is not a cry baby. She addapts quickly and searches the way to get what she wants. I loved it and I need the book two NOW ;D
I was hooked from the beginning to the end of this story. It's filled with duplicitous characters and you never know who to trust. I won't rehash the story here. Trust me, you don't want spoilers ruining the flow. Excellent world building. Excellent characters. The writing is good and the pace and flow keep you hooked. It's been a long while since I read a book about the fae that captured my imagination to this degree but I am fully invested and I need the next book now.
I loooved the main idea for the characters and the world building. The powers and details to the scenery was very well written. With that said the spice was so poorly placed and made no sense. When she's so clear on hating the big guy in charge but 2 seconds of being alone with him she finds herself pleasuring herself? Then right after she's right back to talking about how terrible he is. Like huh? He didn't even do a single thing to pull the attraction but exist. It seemed forced and awkward.
"It was palpable" "Pinched the bridge of their nose" I swear I might be able to like this book if these phrases were not used in every paragraph. It honestly sounds like a cool plot and I'm interested enough that I MIGHT finish it but I swear to the book gods if these phrases are used much more, then I'm going to put it down. The author has strong descriptions for environment and setting, but lacks imaginitive action descriptors. When the book has like 50% smut, that's kind of a necessity.
I'll say this. I read it in a day, but the writing is a bit rough. There are some fun spicy moments and shocking bits. However, the plot feels rushed and jerkey. There seem to be missing details that help ground the reader into the scene - at times. (E.g, moving locations without explaining it, etc). The relationships are unique, but they don't feel fully fleshed out. The characters go from 0 to 100 really quickly, and I couldn't feel connected to any character with how rushed everything felt. Was I curious about what would happen next? Yes, but I was never truly satisfied with how the plot unfolded. There are also phrases that are used too many times that I found to be distracting. I also think there is a small plot error in chapter 9 where the mfc speaks to something she shouldn't have knowledge of at this point in the book - the audience does - but the character shouldn't. Overall, it's entertaining enough to read but clunky and rushed.
interesting read. some things that happened with alana had me SMH. like your trying to escape this guy but its cool, ill stop and have a quickie with him. labeled as a dark fantasy romance but its not dark IMO. im hoping book 2 and 3 make up for this and gives some answers. i want to know more about the characters esp lord eldrion! they dont go into any character development or history book was ok, short quick read.
It took me about 160 pages to really get into the book, quite a slow burn for me. Most of the characters appear straight and white, which is disappointing. I’ve started book 2 so I am hoping to see a bit more diversity. I understand LGBTQ stories aren’t for everyone, but it’s 2025, I don’t expect in-depth sexual activity from that side, but I’d expect some mention of LGBTQ and people of colour as both deserved to be honoured in books. Just my personal view as a person that comes under both.
