Duron doet z'n best om van een historisch pact een roman te maken, maar slaagt daar niet in. Het boek is toch nog erg gestaafd op veel feiten opnoemen, en dan is het schrijven vanuit de twee dames blijkbaar geen wondermiddel om er iets pakkends van te maken. Het leest stroef.
