Goblin Breeder #5

Goblin Breeder 5: Goblin Conqueror: Not Really Slice of Life Anymore

Rate this book
The final book in the best-selling Goblin Breeder series!

War is here.

A massive army of minotaurs, orcs, and other fearsome monsters is on the march for Gillamoor. Once they destroy that city, they'll move on to the rest of the world. And I am the only person that can stop them. No pressure or anything.

Hours of hard work has ensured that our beautiful new house is nearly complete. In there, I will live a life I never could have even dreamed of, with four wives, plenty of kids, and a city that cherishes me. My efforts have also invented a new method of travel, which will revolutionize transportation. The celebrations don't last long, though.

We only have weeks to go until our final fight with Vogrim, the sorcerer determined to conquer the world. Faced with overwhelming odds, I have no other choice but to take the fight directly to him. But, in order to do so, I must face my greatest foe yet, one terrible enough to scare even my enemies.

And if that wasn't enough, the elven emperor has decided he wants to pay me a visit after what we did to several thousand of his soldiers.

Excitement, A thrill in every paragraph and a lot of fun to read.

I start reading the series because of the sex, but as I got involved with the hero of the stories and what he would do to protect his family. It became fun to read and see where it would end. I glad there was a happy ending and the hero's future was filled with many children and the hero saying how love he love his life. If everyone see the positive in their lives and how their lifeS extends to goodness around them and affects the reader with love that then the world would be a better place. Thank you Mickey for such a good read. I enjoyed it!

A Flawed but Satisfactory Ending to A Fun Series

The fifth and final book in the Goblin Breeder series is much shorter than expected, certainly shorter than the penultimate book, and now that all the necessary tools and weapons are in place, it’s time for Andrew Jones, the Human saviour of the Goblin people, to take the fight to the evil sorcerer Vogrim.

Subplots Are Resolved in Good and Bad Ways

Since this is the final instalment in the series, the author is obviously eager to tie up all loose ends left in the previous books, but the quality of the execution varies from subplot to subplot.

Early on in the book, the Elven emperor comes to visit the city of Gillamoor to discuss a number of matters.

I’ve praised the author in previous reviews for actually taking the trouble to build a convincing world instead of glossing over the fantasy elements. I’ve also gotten the impression that he’d bitten off far more than he could chew with the worldbuilding, and it seems that his solution to many of the complicated questions raised by the fantasy world he’s created is to gloss over them with mixed results. Still, the Elven emperor’s visit indirectly plays an important role in the outcome of the story later.

Much Better Writing

I was pleasantly surprised to find only a tiny handful of typos in the book. This could be a function of the fact that the fifth book is so much shorter than the error-riddled fourth book, but it still made for a much more pleasant reading experience.

There are still quite a few instances of paragraphs which should be separated by an empty line being stuck together in a weird way, and this kind of formatting error is still incredibly lazy to ignore. There were also a couple of examples of anachronistic word choice, such as a Goblin character exclaiming “Jesus Christ” in an alternate fantasy world where no such figure existed or would be known to the Goblins. There’s also a line where the book talks about a Goblin’s “Human form” despite the fact that he’s a Goblin and not Human, but compared to previous books, these mistakes are minor and don’t detract from the book.

The Epilogue is Rushed and Weak

It’s clear that once the Big Bad was vanquished along with his evil armies, the author wanted to wrap everything up and finish the book as quickly as possible, and this resulted in an epilogue that is the weakest part of the book. It would have been far better if the author had devoted a full chapter, ideally two or three, to a future several years after the events of the book showing us the positive transformation that had occurred in the meantime, including the MC spending time with his big family of four beautiful Goblin wives and their many mixed-race children.

Instead, the author opts to briefly tell us instead of showing us, recounting the big wedding, and spending a page or so explaining how they finally got around to building, among other things, the first railroads between various Goblin cities.

The epilogue also tells us how much better the Orcs are doing after the MC assassinated their leader and massacred thousands of their warriors (and then dug a nice well for them in exchange for their supplies of steel). I savaged the poorly executed Orc subplot in my review of the previous book, and it was laughable to read how the timid Goblin ex-slave Shalizor’s new bodyguard unit loyally defended him against Orc uprisings instead of assassinating this non-Orc pretender who was put there by the pink-skinned Human MC. It was even more laughable to read the line that tells us that Shalizor became the greatest ruler the Orcs ever had.

Conclusion

Is the author the most technically gifted writer I’ve ever encountered? Not at all. Does he deal adequately with the many questions and logical problems that his worldbuilding creates? Not always. Was I still greatly entertained by a fun series that mixes sex, fantasy, adventure, and action? Absolutely. I’m glad I read this series and would recommend it to anyone who likes action-fantasy harem stories, warts and all.

Too short by half

Alternate universe, magic, goblin girls, harem adult situations

Andrew, his buddy Nerras, Thilli, and Lossia have their work cut out for them. The preliminary quests completed, they have to reach an accord with the elves, and finally face the evil sorcerer who wants to end all life. Only bit of business not dealt with at the end was the promised car for the Emperor. As well as making a statue of Delios to stand next to Zozella. Promises were made! Enjoyed.

This series has been a joy to read - Wonderful writing

The author does a masterful job of tying up all loose ends and bringing the series to a close. I have really enjoyed getting to know and spend time with the characters. I hope the author takes it as a compliment that I am sad to see the series end, but very happy to have had a chance to read it. Maybe one day the author will see the need to create more stories about the world.

I enjoyed reading this series immensely. It is heartwarming, erotic, full of adventure, and magic. It has all the stuff that fantasy is made from and put together beautifully.

We come to the end of our goblin journey. It's a pretty action filled ending but because of this there is a bit of a decrease in the smut. Still, it was entertaining and I could be convinced to reading more of this writers work in the future.

Not a bad ending.

Am I alone in thinking it was too easy to take out the monsters? I know, it's magic, but it could have been a little harder.

Nerras! Nerras! Nerras!

In my head canon, he may look like the goblin version of Major Monogram from Phineas and Ferb, but he's still a badass.
