For forty years he has searched for her. Now that search is over...
After a search which spanned four decades, Craven isn't about to let anything stand in the way of his reunion with his fated mate. Even if she has no idea who he is.
Jackie Coleman loves to read paranormal romance, but it's only fantasy. She doesn't believe it's real. And no smooth-talking guy is about to convince her otherwise.
This is a paranormal romance with wolf shifters. This is an interesting take on fated mates who are separated for fourth years. There are a lot of unanswered questions, but it was an interesting story. I could have been better if there was more chemistry between the characters. 3.5 Stars
In this book,it doesn't show like...enough feeling. Its also short. Yes,yes I know, there are 21 chapters but each chapter is really short. It doesn't give a lot of detail either. But besides that, its a good book! Get it if you like short, nice story's but don't if you prefer looking, detailed books like me. But either way you read it,its pretty cool. 😊
Just, nope. I did not enjoy this book. Good thing it was short! 40 years being on the run, attempting to find her. By what, scent alone? No contacts, no help, but plenty of money it sounds like.
The idea behind the plot I like . . . but that is basically it.
I felt this story was poorly written and missing character development, plot details, and all emotion. It feels like someone took a full length novel and cut out all the characters' emotions and thoughts then decided there was too much detail and took it away too. The left overs is what this story has. I can look past the time jumps and awkward jumpy pov (which really makes no sense since there is only one pov) for a good story, here they just made it worse. So if you are looking for a quick read or a way to kill time, go ahead read away.
The sad thing is I really think the the idea behind the plot is quite good. But how can you take a woman living in the human world for the last five years - thinking she was completely human and full of morals - and just make her kill someone (multiple people) with not a thought about it. Fall in love with no mention of passion and barely any attraction, just a simple acknowledgement of a possible connection. Change her entire life based on some stranger's claims that are not all proven (only able to prove that she is in fact a shifter). The characters just don't make sense. I had no attachment to the characters at all (and i get attached really easy). We have so little detail on Craven that I am still questioning who he is. Yes, I understand that we got her pov and she knows nothing so we know nothing, but she should have been able to make some kind of personal opinion about him prior to sleeping, moving in,and agreeing to have kids with him. I honestly kept hoping there would be a big twist that would make my lack of attachment make sense.
I don't recommend this book to anyone besides people looking to waste time on a quick read. Key words there are waste time!
This book had a promising plot. The synopsis sounded more exciting than the actual book. But because it was a freebie through the nook store I'm assuming it was a prelude to greater adventures of Craven and his fated mate.
I think I will look into the library to check out more of the series and see if it was because it was a freebie book that it seemed to be a filler. If the other books truly are amazing, or I just found myself hooked on Louise or Craven I would have enjoyed this book thoroughly. But it was too jumpy and seemed to be making up a back story for maybe a current story.
On another note it jumped from scenes very quickly and sometimes I didn't realize it until I was halfway down the page. She'd be alone one minute at work and the next somewhere else surrounded by people. I have a sneaking suspicion that the book was written in parts, and then compiled. Perhaps that is one of the reasons I rated it so low? The jumping was very distracting to me.
Part 1 of the trilogy was an Amazon freebie. Firstly I liked the ideas for the background: we're wolves ageing differently from humans, pack territories, etc. and of course Craven who has spent 40 years and lost everything to try to find his true love after one night of passion. What is there not to love about Craven? It was a delight to have a werewolf story set in the UK for a change. A lot of authors favour the vast wooded areas of America. Small details rang correct for the country. Jackie/lLouisa however was annoying in places where she makes illogical decisions. The action sweeps back and forth over the 40 years but the time being described is adequately marked so a reader doesn't get confused. The pace is fast with few of the delaying tactics of boring scenery descriptions unless it is so you can see the action in the setting more clearly.
A good read which will leave you wanting more as the ending is very clearly not the ending of the story. That part I found frustrating as a reader. I wouldn't class this as a book in itself. It is the first third of a book. So if you are a reader like me who doesn't like to be left with loose endings or that what happened next feeling, then it is best to buy the whole story.
I blurb for this book sounded interesting but I have to admit the reviews made me delay reading, they ranged from 'Brilliant' 5 stars to 'Poor' 1 star then 'Brilliant' 5 star again and 'Weak Story' 1 star, in the end I had to find out for myself and I came out somewhere in the middle. Overall I liked the idea behind this book, I mean seriously he's been searching for his mate for forty years who wouldn't love that but I have to admit it seemed a little slow in places and I know at one point I continued on purely based on the fact that it was set in England, unusual for a shifter book, or at least the ones I read. Having said it was a little slow in places certain parts seemed rushed so not sure what was going on there. The main issue I had was Louise, I know it can't be easy discovering your past like that and accepting that shifters exist is a major thing but I hate the kind of woman she was in the first half, stupid decisions etc it annoys me no end. I liked her much more in the second half of the book but ultimately in the end this book was just ok and I can't see myself continuing with this series.
This book was too short to warrant a long review. I would definitely consider it a short story. I liked the writer's style and was compelled to read the story, but felt like the quality of the writing needs some polishing. Some light editing needs to be done. There were several times when the story lacked continuity, such as when Craven made Louise share a hotel room with him but then AFTER she's attacked he allows her space and freedom. The lone sex scene was almost cringe-worthy in its abruptness and it was strikingly different in tone than the rest of the story; in fact, I liked the chemistry between the hero and heroine BEFORE that. I think these issues wouldn't have been so glaring if the book had been more detailed. I also had problems understanding some of the lingo.
Overall, I feel that this was an interesting take on a werewolf story and I'm interested to see where the story goes. But based on the combined ten reviews for the remaining two books, I won't be paying to read them. They are undetailed reviews that paint a glowing picture of the books, which does nothing to convince me that the writer has grown in any way.
The story and plot line is good. I wish there were parts where there's more detail. It jumps around a bit too, and it doesn't really tell you when it's going back in time.
Anyways, I like how determine Craven is on getting back Jackie, who was his fated mate. He tries no matter how many times she pushes him away or tries to run from him. He has a lot of patience. Jackie is strong, even though she has forgotten a lot of her past due to an accident. I like how she's moved on with her life and tries to keep living it rather than dwelling in the past unknowns. When stuff starts to go down, she tries to put her faith in Craven, even though what he's saying to her sounds crazy.
Many of the actions scenes are good, but I wish there was more detail or length to them. They seem to go by very quickly.
I also wish Jackie would have started remember even a little bit of her past. Right now, it seems like her memory is hopeless.
I'm interested in seeing what the next book brings.
Jackie Coleman is a romantic at heart but even she knows that all things paranormal including shapeshifters, vampires, and the like are only fantasy.... or are they?
* * * *
A nice read that had a vague suspense/drama/mystery vibe going on. I enjoyed it but there was just something 'off' on the whole thing for me. Maybe it was because of a lack of world building or that the characters weren't developed enough for me to have any vested interest in their romance or situation.
It does include open ended story lines that peaked my interest and this installment doesn't end in a cliffhanger (which I totally appreciated), just a teaser.
Jackie is a young woman plagued by amnesia and a boring life. She was victim to an accident that left her completely void of any memory, including her name. She's spent the last five years rebuilding a life and seems to enjoy her job as a travel agent. Without warning, her life starts to shift and strange things start to happen. A man by the name of Craven continually shows up in odd places and sets her nerves on edge. It's only later that he tells her that she is his "fated mate" and that they are wolf shifters. How does an Alpha wolf shifter look for his mate for forty years and only just finds her? What happens if he loses her?
Jackie lead a normal life working for a travel agency. In other words dull and boring. Then Craven comes into the picture and things start to heat up. At first she thinks he's an escaped mental patient. You would to if some guy comes up to you telling you that you're fated mates and that you're a wolf shifter to boot. What's a girl to think? Things get even more complicated when Jackie and Craven have to run for their lives because other shifters are out to kill them.
This has the elements of my favorite genres/themes. You got the shifters, amnesia and lover's separated so I was excited to read this. But after a few pages I got annoyed and disappointed because the book didn't deliver. I just couldn't get into the story. The characters weren't that endearing especially the protagonist. I didn't like her voice and the story is mainly told her in POV. Also the writing felt amateurish.
I tried really hard to get into this one but sadly the story jumped all over the place. My main complaint was the pace, I was pushed from scene to scene too quickly to even get into what was happening as well as I couldn't connect to Lousie or Craven. I can see the potential but I cant continue reading when I dont like the characters or what was happening. So after about 50% I'm going to let this one go.
I loved that he refused to give up on her even though he had no clue where she was for 40 years. However neither does any of the readers as it wasn't explained. (although I noticed that the next book is all about that time). She went through a lot and came out fighting and I loved that too. All and all these book was a strong start to a series
My first book by Natalie Shaw. A great story of a young woman who lost her memory and finds out she is a wolf shifter whose a fated mate to a gorgeous wolf shifter. Once alpha, Craven gave it all up in search of Louise 40 years ago. A great paranormal love story.
This book was irritating and I'm glad it was free. Louisa can't remember her past yet thinks her accient was 5 years ago. Craven shows up: tells her he's her fated mate, she's a werwolf and that he's been looking for her for 40 years. The inconsistancies in the story were ridiculous and didn't make much sense. There should have been more editing.
I was trying to think of the word for how I felt reading this story. Disjointed is the best I can come up with at the end. The characters and story never worked for me. It seemed awkward and I have no real understanding of the characters. It just seemed like one event after another with no real buildup.
This series is called The Craven Trilogy named after one of the characters. Very intriguing read about a fated mates and the trouble they encounter because they are from different wolf packs.. Craven's mate doesn't remember him for forty years. A must read. S. Otto
For me this book was just okay. Shifter storyline was interesting but a little hard to follow. I found my mind wandering which means I wasn't completely lost in the storyline. Not sure I will read the rest of the series.
This was a quick read and I did enjoy the book. There were some words that needed to be corrected. As in not the right word where it should be. Just a little editing would have helped. But the storyline was good. I will continue with the series at another time.
I rarely give a book this low a grade. I really liked the idea of the book, but unfortunately i was quickly disappointed. I found it really hard to like the characters in the book and the story just seemed a bit forced to me.
I really didn't enjoy this book. The writing was not great...like the story was written with a pnr formula and it just didn't gel. The dialogue was choppy. I don't know how to describe it but needless to say, I doubt I'll be reading any more of this.
I love this book!! It was very funny and had a little bit of an edge to it. But I would so read this again. An I might..play who am u kidding? I'll probably read this a million times and never grow tired of it!!
Jackie, no Louise? has no memory for the time before she woke up in the hospital with amnesia. She has been working at a travel agent's office after finding flatmates, Judy and Allison. Part of her memory has come back with the hunk Craven... Will the rest of her memory return?
