Although this book needed editing really badly, the story was a good one. I enjoyed the characters and wouldn't mind reading more about them. I felt like the author had researched her material well.

Update 4: I'm stopping here. Werewolf orgies aren't my thing.

Update 3: Wow, that was some weird ass shit. I don't know how I feel about it yet. I'll review after I read the series. Hopefully the next book will pull me in.

Update 1: Ends on a cliffhanger. Will wait to read until series is complete.

Update 2: Series is complete! It's time!

Not really sure about this one. Not ready to count it out as a series yet, but not ready to jump on the next one either.

I went in, expecting a nice shifter story.
Once it started, I felt like it was going to jump right to PWP...so I made my peace with that...and then...NADA.

It felt like a set up for some filthy PWP, but nope. I kept begging for so hot man on man action...but what came out, not so hot.

These guys might accept it now, but they were turned into werewolves, and forced to give up any attraction to anyone of the opposite sex, even if they were strait. Don't ya think they should have a say in this? And a couple of the guys were married at the time this occurred. HUH! I wonder how their marriages would have continued when you are no longer attracted to women?

MATES? Okay, how does that work? It's not explained. One min Marcus is jealous of someone touching his mate? Then later, it's pretty clear his mate has to give it up to the whole team....HUH?

If this had turned into some m/m/m/m/m pwp, I would have rated it higher, because I wouldn't have expected more than a nice little set up for the sex. But very little sex, and what there was didn't sound like Brian was enjoying it to much.

Brian Hays wants to be a part of Delta Force. He's the top sniper as a Ranger, now he hopes to be that with the Mad Dogs. The five men of the Mad Dogs unit do not want or need a sixth, but they got one anyway. There is a surprised that Brian is not prepared for when he joins the unit. Now can he survive the hazing or is that what it is?

This totally caught me by surprise. I had no idea it was shifter story, and what a pleasant surprise it was. I thought the characters and story were great fun. It's has some very hot sex. Looking forward to number two.

Loved it so far but hate books with cliff hangers and shit. Willing to wait to see what the next one wil be about so we'll see. I hate that it ended at 85% cause I feel cheated when I do not get a book that 100% about the book and not just filled with other bullshit.

Gay-Wolf-For-You? A short kind of entertaining story with some sexy feral moments.

We have an Army Special Ops Delta team 'Mad Dogs' consisting of five (5) men/shifty-shifter-wolves that are top-secret and unknown for their amorous supernatural abilities that are presented with a new non-shifty-recruit (& sixth addition) to their close-knit menagerie. Now 'Brian Hays' must endure and pass a most bizarre hazing/initiation ritual of outrunning these 5 feral mofos because otherwise it's his said 'straight' ass for their claiming.

I was fully down with the chase..after Brian got his first two love nips the lust cloud sucking up his brain-and-flooding his dick with nonsensibility. All bets were off. Forget outrunning them. Brian had to fight just his overwhelming need to climb up all five of the men/wolves like said banana trees..so horny was he.

That was fun until we encountered some stupid-ville along the way. Not sure if I will be reading the next in line though.

Although I'm not exactly a shifters reader this book called out to me for its tie in to the military/special forces genres, and I was definitely not disappointed. It carries all that really, really well.

Although I felt the beginning set up went a tad too quick for me, it was just enough to roll into the rest of the book, which is stupendous and sets up the relationships and interactions of the team exceedingly well and the burgeoning attraction between the two snipers, M and B, well... damn! Now that's HOT!

How the meat and potatoes here? The whole transitioning into a shifter for B and how the team guides him, wow! The scenes between M and B are downright scorching.

I wasn't sure if I was going to read the whole series, but now I'm convinced. I want more of Brenda Cothern's, @BCothernBooks , writing and I can't wait to see how Deployment, the book in the series, plays out.

Probably would have rated higher if not for the annoying use of the team members' initials instead of names once the book progressed. Trying to remember who the initial was used for yanked me out of the story almost every time. "Doc" was fine; the name matched his role and is typical for a medic so I always knew who it referred to. But "H" was also Brian's last initial ("Hay") so I kept getting confused when the nickname actually applied to a different soldier.

This is an excellent intro book that just wets your appetite. I like how there are subtle hints given by the characters that you don't realize until you read it a second time. It definitely left me wanting more... much more! I want to know more about these guys and their relationship. The book hints at lots of sex in future books, so I am looking forward to the sequel.. I can't wait.

I'm not a huge fan of shifter books but the military aspect made this enjoyable. The close knit bonds that the Mad Dogs shared kept the story moving along well.

Okay, first of all - what the frick did I just read?!
I don't even...Geez, right. So...I started to read this because of a review where someone said that they "felt like the author had researched her material well". Man, I'm not sure what material exactly were you talking about, thinking back about it after reading the story. It sure as hell could not be military-related, though. I mean I know basically jack shit about military myself and yet I was able to recognize all the "military" parts mentioned in the story, too. To be completely honest, in my opinion, there's not much material to talk about in the first place, really. Unless the person talked about something else. Which... sure. Whatever it was.
The fact that I'm being such an ass about this story (and I apologise, I just can't call it a book) is mainly because it was such a clusterfuck. Literally, as well.
There is the issue of stuff feeling wrong in this story. What I'm on to is simple: I read several books with forced sex scenes (and man, did the authors managed to pull it off, however bad it sounds without knowing details now). Here, however, your mind just kept screaming at me: What's wrong with the fucker, he's not even really fighting it, yet he says how hardcore straight he is. I mean, if he's so bloody straight (and he sounded almost homophobic at times), he'd probably rather hurled up a whole lake of sick before doing what he did.
Maybe it's just me, maybe I read it wrong, my mind translated it wrong, whatever. But my mind also writes this review (through my fingers and keyboard and internet, obviously), so there you go.
I didn't even get to understand how exactly does the whole 'team-or whatever-thing' works (except of aparently fucking the whole squad or you're out). Not sure there's anything more to the whole mess. What I am sure about is that there will be sooner Moses splitting seas in hell before I read any continuation of this.
I'd probably wouldn't be so harsh with my reaction if I could see a head and tail to this except an excuse for some shapeshifter sex. Not enough for me, sorry.
So, to cut it short: It felt fucking wrong, not worth the time and all the people that have a problem with this sum up can go suck on that cliffhanger we recieved as a bonus. I'm outta here.

Shifters and the military? If you like those concepts, then Sixth by Brenda Cothern will be right up your alley. The book starts out with Brian Hay joining a Ranger division. He's their new sniper, and the other five guys have a strange initiation for the new guy!

This is the fourth book by Ms. Cothern I've read, the others were not paranormals, so I was excited to see her delve into this genre. The best part of this new series, entitled Mad Dogs, is the world building. The author was able to create an unique world that I haven't seen before in shifter books, which is an accomplishment in itself, since I've probably read over five hundred paranormal M/M books over the years.

However, as much as I loved the world building and the possibility of what comes next in this series, I did have a few niggles, which is why I did not rate it higher. First, from the beginning to nearly the end of the novel, I wasn't sure who Brian's love interest would be. There are five guys in the Ranger unit and there was no real chemistry between them and Brian until the very end when Brian mates. In a romance novel, I tend to like the main characters to have more interaction so I can fall in love with them as a couple. But, if you like a little mystery in your romance book, then you might like the approach the author took in her final surprise reveal.

Second, as some other reviewers have stated, the book ends on a cliffhanger, which is a huge pet peeve of mine. Yes, a second book is coming this summer, but I've always felt each book should be self-contained and any plot pieces not left dangling. Plus, I wanted more action between Brian and his mate before the book ended!

So, for all readers looking for a different type of shifter book, look no further than Sixth. I'm looking forward to the next installment.

This was a very interesting read for me personally. I went into it thinking it was one way, and then I was caught completely off guard with how it ended up turning out. (In a good way.)
This is the first book by this author that I have read, but I have to say that I really did enjoy the writing style and the character descriptions.
The story was very well written and the twist that we are shown was extremely well done. I was left with a lot of the “WTF” moments while reading the story. But no matter how many of those that I had, I just couldn’t turn the pages quick enough because I wanted to find out what happened next.
The hunt that happens, out of all the books in this genre that I have read, is by far my favorite that has happened. Solely because it was well written, described, everything of the sort.
The only thing that was confusing to me was the back and forth between the characters real names, and their nicknames. It was a bit hard for me to remember who was, and who did what job. Especially with there being 6 such dominate personalities in the book.
But besides that I did still enjoy the book and I do think that this was a great first book in a series because with the way it ended, I really can’t wait to see what happens next in the story, and with the men.

This book took me on a completely unexpected and face-paced journey. The story appeals to vast array of audiences. Whether you are into stories about military, the supernatural, pup play, or bonding between males, this book captures a little bit of each genre. I wanted the ritual portrayed in the book to be carried out to the end and unfortunately was cut short by an event at the end. I couldn't help but feel a little empty and incomplete. Hopefully this was the author's goal and she will be writing a continuation of this storyline.

This was definitely not like anything I've read before, and that was a very nice change. I felt bad for B because he didn't have a say in anything, and that really bothered me. Markus is a character I'm not sure if I really like yet, I'm on the fence about him. I'm curious as to how B deals with everything and being deployed at the same time.

I picked this one up for free and I'm glad I did because I would have been pissed if I had actually paid for it.
It's PWP, some of it noncon, and that can have it's own appeal. But it is so poorly written that it is, at times, incomprehensible. The POV jumps around in a disjointed manner. The dialogue is unclear, it is very difficult to figure out who is speaking. I found it very tiresome.

First time with this author--liked the story (hot military guys and wolf-shifters), but wish it had been longer. Of course, there are four more books in the series; now my interest is piqued and my OCD is challenged. I predict a 4 book purchase in my future.

This review is for the Mad Dogs series books 1 & 2. I read a bit of 3 but by then completely lost any interest I had in the series.

These books were more like porn with a bit of a storyline to go along with them. There was way too much sex and it wasn't even good sex. I kept waiting for more of a story to come out of it thinking that the first book was just a intro to the Mad Dogs. But the second book was just as bad if not worse. There was really no reason at all to even divide the two books. I had hoped that the characters would develop some sort of a relationship but it seemed like it was just pack humping with a bit more attachment between some members more than others.

I have no idea who the author was writing these books for but they were nothing more than confusing and boring male/male erotica.

I feel like this book was glorified porn. Like the story of plot was only there as an excuse to depict as much horniness as possible. Also it had a tone of gay being contagious. Becoming a were means becoming strictly gay no matter how straight you were before. I get the author was not trying to imply anything with it, it still just annoyed me.

I listened to the audio. .... don’t do that. The narrator reads it if a flat tone. He isn’t unpleasant but there is very little change between characters and situations. So all the scenes kinda just blur together. I will note his voice did lul me to sleep more than once. It’s a good voice... just not for a title that requires variation in order to keep the characters straight.

Some might like the book. It just wasn’t me cuppa.

A difficult review only because if you read book one as a stand alone - it's too short, leaves a lot of plot lines hanging, doesn't explain more than it does and ends on a cliffhanger. Thus the 3 rating. If you continue to read the rest of the series then the rating goes up to a 4-5. Very interesting characters, each Mad Dog has their own personality that comes shining through. The connections they have are wonderful and the main plot thread that weaves through the different books is interesting.

I struggle with head-hopping (unclear, inconsistent narrator without separation), I struggle even harder when everyone has three names to cycle through no matter the situation (like if they were letters in the field, last names off duty, and first names in conversation but they can be two names in the same sentence super fun. I keep getting confused that Brian is not H but he is Hay) but I loved that episode of love death robots so I'll read the series regardless. Good thing I got the kindle not the audible I likely wouldn't survive

Alright story, different take on the central subject matter. Unfortunately the author hasn’t bothered to employ a professional proofreader or simply hit spell and grammar check. Too many mistakes in spelling, past and present tense, plurals and singular and just plain old misused words. Would it really be so bad to pick up a dictionary on occasion?

A sort of crazy initiation/hazing of Brian into the new Mad Dogs unit. Since I had seen the tags, I was expecting the shifters. Even then, their hunt/chase of the newbie was a bit disturbing. Poor Brian... Happy that its all in the imagination world rather than real one.

Shifter stories normally aren't my thing (ABO just rubbs me the wrong way), but I found this one interesting and engaging. Will see how far I get in the series; I hope it doesn't get too riddiculous and outlandish.
