Winter is the most daring of the seasonal Sparkle Sisters. She loves to play with her sisters, Autumn, Spring, and Summer, but her very best friend is her pet polar bear, Flurry. He’s the perfect companion for sledding, ice skating, and all kinds of wild escapades. When Winter and Flurry decide to build the biggest snow fort of all time, they’re surprised by a baby arctic fox. Winter loves him immediately…which makes Flurry very jealous. When Flurry’s hurt feelings send him running to play with the Weeds—wild boys who bring trouble wherever they go—Winter will need the help of all of her enchanted sisters to get him back!
This charming series is perfectly suited for newly independent readers who love the Rainbow Fairies and Candy Fairies series. Don’t miss Spring and Summer’s adventures, coming in 2015!
I have 3 little boys. Even though I'm determined to not let them miss out on fun stories due to a girly cover, I still hesitated on this one. I was getting a definite girly vibe from it, and some stories really are meant for just girls. The "Jim Henson" tag convinced me to give it a try, though. I was hopeful that this series could make for some "seasonal" reading.
When I first started reading it, I was thinking this was going to be pure pink cotton candy. I imagined myself at 7 adoring this little series. I STILL think I would have adored it at that age, but I was pleasantly surprised as the story progressed. Within this story, we get an adventure! There's bad guys and friendship and animals. There's also candy canes and gingerbread and snow, which means I'm saving this for a December read aloud with my boys.
It's definitely a cutesy story, but there's more, too. I think it's a great adventure for girls AND boys!
From the Jim Henson studios, this series is about four sisters: Winter, Summer, Fall and Spring and their mother, Mother Nature. Winter's Flurry Adventures tells the story of Winter, of course, whose best friend, a polar bear named Flurry, gets jealous and runs away. The four sisters go after Flurry and end up in the dangerous land of the Weeds as they try to convince Flurry to return home with them. A satisfying story with plenty of fun magic and magical powers. Bonus points for the artwork and diversity of the characters.
One day Winter finds a fox named Snowball. Flurry gets jealous because he think's Winter is trying to replace him with snowball. Flurry is Winter's pet polar bear. The sparkles do a search for him. He ends up to be with the weeds. They renamed him Butchie. Winter explains the whole thing to him and eventually he understands and comes back home to Winter's sparkledom. Now they are best friends again.
