Are you ready to read something that will change how you think about reality? Because here's what you've been looking for.
What would you do if you found out that not only were you a Greater Demon, but that your insanity meant that almost everyone in the world would want you dead? Zack Hartley opened a book store. One with a little cafe in the back, and a very special travel agency on the side. One that take people absolutely anywhere. Now he just has to get his life together while everything else in his world falls apart. It will mean wrangling overly enthusiastic Succubi, Mages and Vampires, as well as members of the general public and the local police force. Worst of all, his relatives. If he fails, then he dies. If he succeeds... Well, then he still probably dies. Who could resist odds like that? Not someone that doesn't get a choice in the matter. If Zack can hang on long enough, maybe he'll learn to become something more than anyone thought he could be? That's the plan. If he can pull it off.

Detours is book three of the Other Places series, and the last book in the trilogy.
Book one: Shortcuts
Book two: Road Blocks
Book three: Detours
This series is also linked to the Keeley Thomson series of books. Reading them isn't needed to enjoy these works, just exciting and fun.
P.S. Power works in fiction, mainly focusing on Fantasy, Science Fiction and Horror genres, with brief forays into other things just to keep life interesting. He averages 1 to 2 books monthly and has several series going. He lives in an isolated cabin in the middle of nowhere, as a recluse, yet still manages to find time to talk to people online, in a positive and delightful manner. Not one of those creepy hermit types though, you understand. It's more of an isolated farm style thing. Or ranch really. He's also interested in three dimensional photography, and long moonlit walks on the beach, sometimes with vampires. When he can find time he also does writing and voice work for scripted online programs. Anyway, feel free to drop him a line. Or visit his forum: http://pspowerbooks.com/phpBBF/index.php
In chatting with Dale over the past few weeks, it was decided that he was interested in blogging to you, his readers. The blog he had within the main site was not going to be a viable solution and there were thoughts of just creating a Forum where only he could post and everyone else could reply. This MOD is a nice meeting of the two for what will hopefully be a highly successful blog!
Hoping this first (and only) post by me will kick off a nice method of interaction with Dale's readers!

I enjoyed this series and really hope that this isn't the end of Zach. This book has him starting to come into his own as a baby demon and really learning the ropes as far as what he can and cannot do. I've noticed that a lot of people have been giving this bad marks due to Zach losing his innocense. Well, he literally got destroyed by a demon and had to remember all of it in one fell swoop. I also like the subterfuge that's going on with all the demons. You never really know who's doing what and everyone has alternative motives for doing anything. I also like the fact that you have to strike deals about everything. Wording is very important in this series. Overall, I hope that this is not the end to the series, it was just getting to the point of a new plateau where Zach has to learn how to become a better demon. I really hope there is more coming to this series. I want to know what happens next!
This was a weird series. It didn't really go where I thought it would after the first book, though it was a completely different point of view than I have ever read before. Zack is still a good guy, but since he is a greater demon he has to learn how to be a dick in order to survive. On the flip side, because he is a good guy and not making any waves, nobody sees the need to try and kill him either. If he becomes a power hungry demon then he might actually be in more danger. The training regimen with Darla is a little weird too. She wants to expose Zack to a bunch of abuse so that he knows how it feels and then won't be affected by it if it comes up later. How messed up is that? "We need to anally rape you now so that we know you can handle it, because of course that is likely to happen later since we are all demons". WTF? It is a completely different mindset that I am used to reading about. the vampires all take slaves or expect to be slaves and raped. Zack had to tell the girl that was thinking about being a vampire later that she should get used to be beaten and raped now since that kind of thing happens when you're a vampire. The worst was when she said she knew about it and had been raped before so it was okay. I did miss mirror him when he went away though, I thought he was the best part of the story. The fact that greater demons could shape shift made it almost impossible to know who anyone was.
I liked the characters and it was a completely new way of thinking when reading about Zack's new world and the rules he now has to follow. I don't know if I am going to read the related books at this point. This is the last book in the series but I know Keeley has her own series and well, I just don't know if I like the world that much. I liked Zack and I really liked MH and the world was new and interesting, just maybe not something I want to completely invest my time in .
Good conclusion for Zack adventures, I am personally sad that a lot of people got more bedroom action that him, but hey thats inmature from my part. Now for the real review, great full development for Zack and expendature of his world, the surprise with the grandparents I really didn't see it coming and I can say there is a very little incongruety there. But it ended in a good note for the MC and after all sometimes thats all anyone can hope for.
This is the last book in the series and I hate to say it really is my least favorite. With the change in Zack at the end of the last book and into this book the story loses it's charm. The thing that really drew me to the series was the way Zach did good thing and selfless things with out looking for reward or any alternate motivations.
That changes although there are glimmers of the old Zack. It is still worth a read to close out the series but just don't have too high expectations.
I like this one better than the previous. Zack is finally coming into his own. He's still a baby demon so he isn't treated like an adult demon, but he's learning. It also offers a good view of the 'other side' in the demon conflict.
