Benka Pulko's book, "Circling the Sun", opened up my eyes to a whole new world. It was filled with stunning photos, from across the globe. As well as detailed entries about her travels. With only her trusty BMW bike, she travelled the globe, alone. She went to male dominated countries, such as Saudi Arabia, without a male chaperone. She went to Africa. She travelled North America. Traveling, is hard on anyone. But for a woman, alone, who doesn't speak the native language; it's an amazing feat.
Her book gave me such wanderlust. It really made me want to pack my bags, and get on the next flight to anywhere. Her photo's captured such true moments. Children smiling, families washing their clothes, elderly people in prayer, beautiful environment shots, etc. Every single picture in the book has a story to tell. Benka's words flow with ease, making this book a very easy, fun read. I really didn't want to put it down. It had me enthralled. Although I've never been to these countries; reading her book, gave me a vivid insight.
This book would be a wonderful gift for anyone. It makes the perfect coffee table book. It will definitely get people talking, in an engaging conversation. It's a book that you read once; and want to re read again; and the pictures never get old to look at.
Such a beautiful book. The presentation is well done. I would give this book a 10 out of 10! Must read.
I first heard about this lady's Guinness World Record setting journey years ago through the motorcycle community, and we have been waiting a long time for this book. It certainly was worth the wait.
If you're not familiar with Benka, take a few minutes to read her story: www.BenkaPulko.com. But in a nutshell, this lady decided to ride a motorcycle around the world, THEN WENT OUT & LEARNED HOW TO RIDE.
Her book is broken into sections from each continent with accompanying photos she took herself. Now keep in mind this was mostly before the days of digital, so that must have taken some logistical maneuvering. But the results are impressive and make this the most beautiful book I've ever seen.
But don't think this is just a picture book. It also contains wonderful stories from each continent, stories about the people, places & prejudice she met along the way.
Travel around the world with Benka for less than the cost of a ticket!
