One in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage – it is the most common complication of pregnancy and also one of the least understood. Professor Lesley Regan is the first woman to hold a chair on obstetrics and gynaecology in the country and for the past decade she has worked to establish the biggest miscarriage clinic in the world. This book gives up-to-date information on the many causes of miscarriage and the latest treatments available. It covers the chances of a successful pregnancy, how to prepare for and cope with the next pregnancy, infertility, and gives answers to the most commonly asked questions on the subject of miscarriage. Revised and updated to take account of the latest developments in the study of miscarriage, this book is the book everyone who has ever suffered a miscarriage will need.
I suffered a miscarriage a month ago, and after a few days of grieving I needed information & understanding, this book gave me that exactly when I needed it. This level of understanding gave me comfort. If you or anyone you know has suffered from miscarriage this book needs to be read.
Up to date research, scientific, informative and easy to understand. This book has given me piece of mind during a difficult time. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has, or knows someone, who has had a miscarriage.
The book was very informative with causes of miscarriage being presented in great detail. Besides that, explanations were also offered on recurrent miscarriage. Practical tips to spot early signs of miscarriage and what to do were also available. The author then went on to describe what happens to miscarriage sufferers at different pregnancy stages, including both medical procedures if necessary and emotional experience. It is a book any woman who would like to have a baby should read.
A very useful resource that I would treat as a broad jumping off point to identify areas worth investigating further, given it is now 17 years out of date.
I found it very informative and well structured, making it easy to skip sections that were not applicable to me.
This book had a lot of medical information but definitely lacked morality encouraging abortions if you think you’re pregnancy might fail so you can get pregnant faster with another baby. Sickening to read those words after a miscarriage.
I am so so so so angry with this book. I had a miscarriage a month ago and it was my first pregnancy. I had just started to get back to normal and to feel hopeful again. And I got this book hoping to learn more and feel better. But instead what did I get out of this book? Only 5% of women miscarry in their first pregnancy. Only 6% of women below age 35. That makes my miscarriage what 0.3%??! I don't smoke, I don't drink, I have quit coffee for a year now! Seriously it's making me feel like I strike lottery in this miscarriage competition. And the most unbelievable thing is that, according to this book, after one miscarriage, the chances of me having another miscarriage is 20%? 20 fucking percent. Are you serious? And how dare you throw this stat in the face of people who had just suffered a miscarriage! And don't bullshit about "oh don't despair, 20% means that 80% go on to have a baby". It does not work that way. It only makes me even more scared of ever trying again because one already hurts so f*** much. My gynae told me that first pregnancy miscarriage is actually common and MOST go on to have a successful second pregnancy. So this book is a f*** lie. STAY AWAY FROM THIS BOOK. DO NOT READ IT IT WILL BREAK YOUR HEART.
Constructive well informed & balanced book regarding the various causes of miscarriage . Written in a factual & straightforward manner but in no way lacking in empathy . Hugely helpful
