New York Times and #1 Audible bestselling author, Jeremy Robinson, explores an alternate reality in which the events of Project Nemesis, soon to be a TV series from Chad Stahelski (director of John Wick 1 – 4) and Sony Pictures Television, played out very differently, creating a horrific and thrilling new world where sacrifice and vengeance are part of everyday life. From the ashes of a devastated Boston, a harrowing legend emerges. Thirteen years prior, the colossal kaiju, Nemesis, ravaged the city in her relentless pursuit of retribution. Today, mankind's survival teeters on the sacrificial offerings atop a chilling monolith known as The Altar, where the condemned pay the ultimate price to prevent Nemesis's wrath from consuming humanity.Agent Graham, a grizzled operative on the brink of retirement, finds himself tethered to the fiery, untested Agent Tilly. Together, they are the unlikeliest of partners within the Nemesis Special Operations group, the government's first line of defense against the looming shadow of the massive Goddess of Vengeance. Their mission? To hunt down the enigmatic cult, Divine Retribution, before they can harness the devastating power of Nemesis to reshape the world to their warped sense of righteousness. As Graham and Tilly plunge into Boston's darkest underbelly, they face more than just the echoes of their city's past. They must outwit cunning cultists, battle impossible monsters on the windswept beaches of Martha's Vineyard, and forge an unexpected alliance with the motley and formidable all-female biker gang inspired by the Queen of Monsters, the ‘Nemesisters.’ Every step drives them closer to the unthinkable, and asks the How many must be sacrificed to save the world from the ever-watchful gaze of Nemesis? How much more will she demand when the world needs to be saved?

2024 Update: Even though I had recently read this book, I listened to it as soon as the audiobook came out. It brought the story to life in such a great way, which is always the case with RC Bray at the microphone. I hope this becomes a series because I love this alternate universe!

The original Nemesis series was my first experience with Kaiju fiction. It took me a while to get into it, but by the end of the first book, I was in love with the characters, who felt like family. This new Nemesis book takes that love to a whole new level.

First off, it is not necessary to have read any of the books from the original Nemesis series. But I have the feeling you will want to after reading this book. This story feels more edgy and intense, and there is a wonderful mix of the familiar and the new. I love the new characters that were introduced and may have a slight crush on the Nemesisters. Nemesis herself was portrayed in a much more personal light for me, and I found myself a bit misty eyed a few times.

I truly hope this book is just the start of a new series, because I definitely want more. I am counting the days until the audiobook release so I can take the journey all over again!

New Nemesis!

This book rocks. A great new storyline that is not a direct sequel to the first run, but definitely connected. In other words if you haven’t read Project Nemesis or the series that follows this resets the system so it fantastic for new readers. Nemesis is back!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The premise and overall "political esc" system was very intriguing. The storyline hit a lul once or twice. The main reason this book isn't a 5 star is that there was a bit too much "cringey" dialogue.

This is my first book from this author and definitely won’t be my last. It was action packed with funny (often raunchy) banter between the characters. The ending was a little weird and grossed me out a bit but I wasn’t mad about it.

This scratched my kaiju and Michael Crichton itch.

I listened to the audiobook and highly recommend it.

τὰ γὰρ ὀψώνια τῆς ἁμαρτίας Νέμεσις. In one of the more famous Biblical passages amongst at least certain American crowds - and, based on Jonathan Edwards' Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God and Dante's Inferno (itself based on earlier works by St. Thomas Aquinas and non-Biblical yet popular Apocalypse tales that circled in the early centuries within the Christian community), possibly among the more famous Biblical passages in all of Christendom, St. Paul once wrote in his Epistle to the Romans "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23, NIV/ NKJV)

The title of this review is actually Robinson's spin on that particular verse, which he essentially used to reboot and retell the story of Νέμεσις - Nemesis, the ancient Greek god of vengeance he originally crafted a balls to the wall kaiju action series around in PROJECT: NEMESIS. Which led to his very *first* 'Avengers Level Event' (my term for it) collaboration at the end of that series. If you want the actual translation of the title... you're gonna have to read the book. Though this review so far should give you a pretty good idea of what it says. :D I can honestly say that the very first time I saw that particular phrase in the book, I IM'd Jeremy directly immediately and said "this *has* to be your next image in your TeePublic store". It was that awesome. :D

And the rest of the story is equally amazing, unexpectedly bringing back yet another creature from the Robinsonverse - whose origin even in its standalone tale was tied to an "alternate dimension" Nemesis + another connection to yet a third Robinsonverse tale, and whose origin remains intact (in at least these two respects) in this tale. Indeed, the unexpected just keeps coming within this tale, as the presence of this particular creature - and specifically how it is created here - draws Nemesis herself in for yet again more very creative monster/ kaiju fighting. Indeed, even for long time fans of Nemesis herself... old girl's got some new tricks here, particularly since this is a *different version* of her. ;) And not just Nemesis. Other features of those books also get entirely rebooted, including a new "Betty" with some interesting new abilities that turn our heroes into in some cases even more badass versions of a particular red and gold Marvel superhero. Also not to be missed is Robinson's commentary on a particular 2010s era movie that may or may not have included one particular scene that may or may not have been *eerily* reminiscent of the earlier Nemesis tales, in one exact moment in particular.

One thing I need to make 100% crystal clear though: Old fans, new fans, whoever you may be: This is a 100% standalone book. You don't need to know *anything* about literally anything to enjoy this tale as it is written. You don't need to have read every Robinson book (or nearly so). You don't need to have a deep knowledge base of Christian thought. You don't even have to have any knowledge of pop culture (and in some cases, some relatively obscure areas that wouldn't necessarily be described as overly "popular", more along the lines of "cult" at best). This is still the New God of Science Fiction doing what he does best, and that which he does better than anyone else I've ever come across - giving you kick ass, balls to the wall, science fiction action/ thrillers that sometimes make you think, often times have connections all around that don't impede the story, and are always upping themselves in just how creative their creator can be.

It is actually quite funny me in particular. Yet again, Robinson said "I'm working on this new concept" and said what it was. Yet again I was skeptical. And yet again, Robinson earned every praise I can ever give his storytelling and world crafting abilities. (I famously did this with the Chess Team/ Jack Sigler Adventures when he first told me about them - and they became one of his greatest early career innovations.)

Truly a fun bit of escapist science fiction that will nearly be as deep as you want it to be - and no more. Exactly what the best science fiction has always done. Very much recommended.

Hmmmmm not sure how I feel

I admit when I first started reading this I was pissed and determined to hate it because we got a Marvel situation. Usually and Hollywood and it's woke cult are the perfect examples when a multiverse is brought in that usually signifies no ideas and we end up with mountains of trash. I have been hoping for years the Nemesis saga would continue there so much more I feel can be told but she's earned her rest and I assume the author feels the same. Then he brought her back in Singularity and another reviewer put it so elegantly she was treated like a cockroach. I will add another word to that as well Cockroach and Cancer it wasn't fair to the reader who has spent years reading these books and the series ends and the one appearance she is in the author took a highly intelligent creature and made her essentially a wet turd. In this book Nemesis is a beast again! When I started the book I was very reticent it literally took me 4 days to read the first chapter because I was ready to hate it and was hating on it bad but finally I got to a point of now or never either I'm putting it down and reading the new Atomic Rex book or I'm going to finish this what I considered at the time trash lol. I am so thankful I finished it and didn't demand my money back because I had a blast I wish wish wish wish this authors main subject was and is Kaiju because he writes it so well Jeremy like the Atomic Rex author proved that the multiverse doesn't mean laziness and out of ideas this novel I so action packed its gross in its gory glorious way and it has VERY strong and good female leads that aren't the Hollywood trash variety which only caters to a very small minority which I absolutely love. The problem for me though is while reading this book I kept wondering about the other books and wondering why why why did he ignore the first one's when we could have got a long-awaited continuation on that front I gave it a 4 out of 5 but I am rereading this again and I intend to revise my review because I will be over the shock and will be able to think past my fan hood of the first books. Good job to the author and I hope you do write a sequel my interest is peaked I have to admit!

New take that works usually

This is a grittier, more serious take on the original Nemesis story. There's a lot of enjoyable things in it, namely Graham and his continual hatred of pretty much everyone. His inner monolgue is very similar to what I think every day. Fans of the original Nemesis story will find a ton of call backs. This books feels like it needs a prequel novella or short story to explain this version of Nemesis appearing and the eventual demise of Hudson. Both these events are mentioned frequently but don't get a lot of explanation. There's some very cringe worthy jabs at American history and mental health that didn't need to be added. Following Nemesis destroying Boston, the city is rebuilt and the government begins actively looking for evil doers, yet somehow had no idea a Vegas like city has been created undo Neo Boston. The fact that Nemesis can only sense evil doers when they're above ground is oddly specific and seems like it's only needed to move the plot forward. The back and forth between Graham and Blackwater is really funny. Plenty of action as the second act kicks in. Overall I'd say it's a really good book even though it's just a rewrite of a previous novel. There's also a very obvious jab at the Godzilla movies late in the book that ruined a perfectly good action scene

Jeremy Robinson's works are incredible, and he once again knocks it out of the park with this standalone, NEMESIS! That's right, you do not have to have read anything (including the prior Nemesis Saga) before diving into this one! However, if you already have, that will only add to the enjoyment of NEMESIS!

As is par for the course with any Robinson book, this is a fast-paced action ride, but it also has well-placed humor and depth. The story is well-written and hard to put down - very hard to put down!

The audiobook will be released on December 19th, and I'm looking forward to reliving this adventure all over again!

I'm hoping Robinson has a series planned in this alternate Nemesis world, because he's set up a great cast of characters and I'm ready for the next Kaiju-sized, city-destroying adventure!

Holy Cow I seriously love this book! I really like it when a protagonist is such a Hard-boiled no nonsense kinda guy, only by looking closer you'll be able to find that underneath the gruff exterior you're gonna see a golden heart and all the tenderness he can muster, given the circumstances. But that's just who agent Graham is, and exactly who I want protecting me.
So if you love edge-of-your-seat action you'll hafta grab this audiobook for all the kaiju action found there! And Jeremy Robinson books has never let me down. You're also find that RC Bray is the perfect narrator for the job.

Here's a couple of quotes that I found amusing:

"Let's make a deal on count of 3 I heave you up, you be a dead weight, cool."

"On my way up the shifting pile of debris I split my energy into 50% physical effort 50% foul language."

Jeremy Robinson is one of my favorite authors. The man could make a cookbook terrifying and entertaining. 😂

That said, Nemesis delivers an electrifying Kaiju experience. The awesome characters really come to life, each with their unique personalities, making the listener truly invested. I loved the reenvisioning of Nemesis, as well as the easter eggs hidden in the book for those who have read Robinson's other books (however, this is a standalone book, and you don't have to read any of the other books to understand the plot).

After the lively characters comes an action-packed plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat, seamlessly blending intensity and suspense.

This is a must-listen for Kaiju enthusiasts, earning it a solid 5 stars!

I've listened to most of Jeremy Robinson's novels on audio book and RC Bray's narration is one of the reasons why. It's produced so well!

The story behind this one is the escaped-lab-expriment-gone-wrong, now reveared as a goodess, Nemesis, has been picking off bad guys for 13 years... sometimes destroying whole cities to get to them. This has most of the word turning over a new leaf. Crime is down all over the world, except for the hard core. Those, the NCO feeds to the giant kaiju monster.

The whole system is barbaric, and this book has more blood, guts, and gore in it than I expected (though I don't know why). Well written, but not really my type of story. Still, an entertaining listen while out walking, driving, or running errands.

I would’ve never thought I was a fan of Godzilla-style stories until I read Robinson’s original Nemesis series, but it was great. Then, with this book, I was very unsure about an alternate universe. That seemed unnecessary, and I really hate it when an author messes with characters I’ve come to love. But, therein lies the genius of Robinson – he writes characters that draw you in, he makes you like them and care about their fates. He even managed to make me care about a monster. This new Nemesis universe was just as awesome as the first. It’s fun, action-packed, endearing at times, and the characters make you care. Highly recommended!

Highly entertaining. I was not expecting this was a monster story. Although I have read plenty of monster stories I have never read anything about Kaiju monsters, my only experience with them was Godzilla as a child on creature double feature. I thought I was going to read a dystopian novel. Good characters and world building. The protagonist was a bit rough but also funny. He was too self depreciating for my liking, and the novel was too long in my opinion. There are many epic battles and chace scenes, however the descriptions were also long. Nice character arc and I cared about them. I was entertained and if you enjoy a good out there story I recommend.

Goddess of Vengeance

Jeremy Robinson always delivers, and this book is no exception. From beginning to end this story goes. Nemmy as those in the know affectionately call her is a true force to be reckoned with. While I and others have read the alternative universe storyline of Nemesis before, this new reincarnation is both true to the lore, yet breathtakingly unique. For a fantastic thrill ride, for emotional ups and downs, for a good scare, you have come to the right place. Read it, and weep.

Jeremy Robinson first introduced the massive Goddess of Vengeance many years ago in the start of a great Kaiju series. Now, he has reinvented the series through a standalone novel, which seems to be in a parallel universe.

IMO, nobody writes sci-fi thrillers as well as Mr Robinson, finding a creative way to elicit all the emotions you would expect (and some you would not) in a story like this. The story is character driven with amazing and intense action and excitement. Truly a book not to be missed.

An engaging and fun read that I couldn't put down!

This book was a treat to read, a fun thrill ride with a cast of characters that I want to get to know in real life. I want to binge watch 27 seasons of a Netflix series based on this book, then go watch the three part movie series, and buy the T-shirt.

What a great concept, and the execution... Chefs kiss. I almost feel unworthy to "review" this work because it is unique, a labor of love that teases connections into other books by this author, which was unexpected and delightful.

Well done. Well done.

What a fun ride!

I have been a fan of Mr. Robinsons for a while now. This reimagining of one of my favorite kaiju is a fun romp through New England with some familiar faces from the original works, but also some really well written new characters. If you like books with big explosions, strong female characters, pop culture references, and dialogue to rival a Kevin Smith movie, then let me introduce you to Jeremy Robinson's Nemesis. If you like what you've read, go explore the Infinite timeline also written by Mr. Robinson.

Great read

My first experience with Jeremy Robinson and this book was a blast. Fast-paced and believable science fiction fun. I think the drones are prophetic and are only a matter of time before we see them in reality. The protagonist, a grizzled veteran of his job was entertaining (his position in the job a little clichéd) and the side-characters enjoyable too. I have already bought more books by Robinson and can't wait to begin them.

2.5/5.
Very decent, pretty standard fare from Jeremy Robinson. If you’re in the mood for one of his novels, you’ll be in the mood for this. Still, not my favorite outing from him.. none of the characters are endearing enough, none of the scenarios as fun enough, none of the action as bombastic enough, to really make this remarkable.
There’s some cool ideas but overall falls short of his best works and results in what is just a solid, light read/listen.

JR just keeps getting better and better

I firmly believe that the more you work at your craft the better it will become and this is more proof to me that Jeremy Robinson has been working hard at his craft. A mixture of action, drama, toss in a little romance, and a lot of sarcasm makes this a great read.

The fact that Jeremy Robinson is not supported by a major publisher is astounding. He is a master of the monster thriller, bringing nonstop action, humor, and heart to all of his stories. Also, I just love a kaiju. We need more kaiju entertainment! This alternate reality in the Nemesis universe was just as good as I wanted it to be!

This is my first Jeremy Robinson book. The author states that this has same of the same cast members as his prior books, but the outcome is different than his past books.
This book is much like a cartoon book; and it is a nice departure. It is good in the mix of other types of books you are reading to break it up.

Robinson fans will enjoy

I'm a big fan of Robinson and really enjoy his work. This altered timeline version of the Nemisis story is full of the expected monster madness but, for me, I really wasn't happy with the darkness and foulness of the writing. Just not my cup of tea.

Totally awesome story!!

A fun-tastic dive into the Robinson multi-verse and a completely new take on the original story. Mr. Robinson skillfully weaves characters and storylines from multiple books in to an un-putdownable all new adventure.
